If I do a factory data reset, do I have to manually set up all my email accounts again? Gmail, Yahoo, hotmail, aol, ...
I'm also using K9 Mail and MailDroid apps to pick up mail.
I guess any launcher configuration will be gone too?

Everything that ISNT stored on your SD card will be erased. You will have to set up your accounts again. Your contacts should be linked to your Gmail account.
You can probably use an app to backup your apps then reload them. There are some that do that.

Yes. Simple as that
So I did a factory reset, and I got back almost all of my contacts. Notice one or two missing, and they weren't recently added ones too, so not sure why.
I hear that market apps should auto-restore? I had backup/restore checked under Privacy, but the apps are not restoring, and if I try to manually download, I even see my editable comment and rating on the app, which indicates that my device/account knows about the previous installation of the app.
After a manual download/install, the data doesn't restore, so I lose customized settings, etc.
Is the backup of apps/data indicated anywhere on www.google.com/dashboard ?
I do have my apps backed up to SD as .apk files using flii (previously called onthefly backup).

I did a factory reset (to activate a warranty replacement phone), and the SD card was completely erased. A call to VZW tech support and was told to remove the SD card before doing a factory reset

My factory reset did not erase SD card contents. I believe there is an option during the factory reset to erase the SD card. One needs to be careful about that check box setting.

Hey guys,
I'm having a few issues w my X10, my call log and contacts dont show up half the time when I boot up my phone and my last call widget always freezes. It's really really bugging me and I think I need to try formatting my SD card.
How do I format my SD card and put all my data back on it after so my phone is the same after the format?
Thanks
Call log, contacts, etc have nothing to do with the sdcard, unless you choose to back them up - which is the only time they'll be on there.

I just rooted and used installed titaniam backup... what should I do to reformat and then restore all my settings? Do I lose root when I reformat my phone?
Thanks a lot!

Copy and paste the contents on to your computer, format the card, and paste them back.

thanks for all the help guys! gonna do a factory reset now... hoping for the best
thanks!
I just recently factory reset my phone and I was wondering what was the easiest way to get root back on my phone.
I'm content with keeping R2BA023 pretty much just because I know it works and my battery is consistent enough for me to get through an average day, so reflashing with one of the newer models and then rooting isn't exactly what I want to do.
nm got it!
just restored... titanium backup is the nuts
fk, just did a restore and the problem is still there.... guess I have to try formatting SD card now...
If I want to format, do I plug phone to the computer, mount SD card -> copy all files to my computer -> format sd card -> copy all files back to SD card -> unmount SD card
Is that what I do?
Thanks!
Yup pretty much

I totally bricked my phone yesterday by modifying some files I shouldnt of. It was my fault, for sure.
I followed the guide for restoring my phone using Odin, im just having one problem. It appears that /system isnt mounting? The phones telling me I have 0 space in internal storage.
Is there something i need to do to get /system to mount? I know its not actually low on space, and I confirmed this with adb -df command. over 86% free still.
Thanks for ANY suggestions!
Use the program adrynalyne created to fix the problem. You will need to search for it here unless someone posts a link.
no luck with the search. any other suggestions?

Have you tried doing a factory data reset via clearing it in your privacy menu under settings? FYI - I had one of those 0.0 gB space in internal memory due to my inept attempt at disabling voodoo, but had to eventuallyL (1) adb push the original.mbr and (2) do a factory data reset in the privacy menu.

not to steal the topic but with my recent problem, my fascinate decided to basically reboot itself to stock all on its own but was still rooted minus ALL the apps on the phone without the sd card being recognized. Was the sd card holding all these apps and the real question is I went to install quadrant to see if the kernel was still installed internally and it said I didnt have enough disk space internally. Does this mean the kernel is still installed and was causing this? Also since I unrooted to take the phone to verizon to get a new sd card since it faulted...will i have to remove files before I redo the root and everything else, CWM, rom manager, root explorer, etc....

You need original.mbr or the program created by adrynalyne to fix your problem. That is the only thing that will help.

FIXED!
Thanks everyone! looks like it was cause by having voodoo installed previously. I followed adrenalyn's steps to completely removing it, including a factory reset and pushing the original.mbr (thanks nemesis and durkabane!)

My phone reset itself for no reason. It was laggy so I restarted. When it rebooted, all the apps I had installed wod force close (samsung default apps worked fine) and all my personal info was gone (phone nos, contacts, settings, etc).
When this happened first two times, i replaced my phone. Now it happened on the replacemwnt SGS.
I am thinking it may be the sd card (I am using an 8gb external sd I have from my previous Moto Mestone). I've been running for about a week with no reset since I took the card out from the phone. I would however like to use the sd card for the additional storage.
Anybody know if the sd card could have been the problem and maybe how to fix it?

Yes, it sounds like this
Did you already try to boot the phone without the external-SD-Card being plugged in? Or just tried booting with another external SD-Card?
If not, copy over your data form ext. SD-Card to your PC and reformat the external SD-Cardwithin the system settings.
Maybe there are some system files from your Milestone left which SGS doesn't like
Installed Darky's rom. Do not seem to have that problem anymore.
Thanks

Hey folks- I decided to do a factory reset on my device last night because it was getting twitchy and had a hard time installing jwr66y. I was under the impression that android didn't erase the SD card partition on devices like this without an SD card.
So I backed everything up with my back up pro and ran the reset. And I lost everything. My backup files were deleted and I lost all my pictures. I know, my bad for not putting those files in external storage, but I really thought that part of the internal storage wouldn't be deleted. Am I wrong? What happened here? Also, I thought Google synced all the pictures on here through Google photos.

Where did you do the factory reset from? Stock recovery & via settings will wipe the internal storage, its normal.

Not all pictures are synced automatically. You have to enable picture sync in the menu.

1. Factory reset. I strongly believe you can still save your mesages if you want to. Download sms backup and restore from playstore. Save the back up into external sd. Save all your contacts into sim card or export to external sd. If your phone is rooted, you can backup your installed apps using titanium backup. Remember to remove external sd before performing factory reset
2. If it doesn't work, need to reflash the firmware
You can reflash firmware first without factory reset. It can save all your data in the phone but flashing could be a messy thing to do. So i would suggest to do factory reset first

You will loose all your data. As mentioned you could make some backup into sd card. Just to be remember you must remove sd card else it would get wiped by factory reset

No it won't wipe your external sd card...
If you have a google account all your contacts are already stored there so when you log in they will be restored, as well as any apps from google play store...
SMS however are a different story...
