[Q] Very first splash screen - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
Last year I had installed a custom WM6.5 rom to my android, an "energizer" rom. The very first splash screen, the one appearing just after pressing the power button, was replaced by an energizer logo.
Then I went ahead and installed an SD card Android, but since it required WM6.5 to load first, the splash screen was still the same.
Now I installed Magldr and CWM_Recovery, then a custom NAND Android rom.
However the first splash screen of energizer is still there. I don't want it. I want my own image to be there, since it's obviously changeable. Do you know how I can change that, without harming my magldr or cwm installation?
Thanks!

you need to creat one and turn it into a nbh file, there was a tool that did all this for you, ight need to search this place for it or google

See "watermarking " link in my sig.

That seems to be the solution I've been looking for, I hope I can make it work
I'll use the 0x600 memory space, right? Because 0x601 will remove MAGLDR I have installed?

correct. .....

Great, now the very first boot image is my custom one
Then the Magldr boot sequence starts with some codes like a terminal screen. And then a HTC logo appears for several seconds. Finally an animation starts, stays there for half a minute, and the OS loads.
Now, is there a way to change the HTC logo there, the one after the magldr boot?

Too much searching, but this one got me working:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12574728&postcount=5
The mount command had to be changed to the following though:
mount("yaffs2", "MTD", "boot", "/boot");
However the problem is that the rle files I make up myself don't display correctly on the phone. This exact problem was faced by other people as far as I can see, so my last problem is now that I need to be able to convert a bmp file to rle that the phone can display.

And this one can create correct rle files:
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...-bootlogo-before-animated-boot-animation.html
I'll make a tutorial tomorrow so that other people can make this easily

hi everyone i am currently trying to install android 3.2 on my htc hd2 and the steps i am following are to copy the android folder to the root of my sd card and then once i have done this then to tap on the CLRCAD file then tap the haret file then a loading bar comes up then goes to a black screen and in small writing in the top left hand corner it says

i have repeated this process a dozen times to ensure that i have not missed anything out last nite i made sure that the battery was fully charged and also i updated my rom from the htc website to the latest version as i have read that some people cant get android working at all unless they did this. i did the process until i got the black screen again and left it all night thinking that it may take a long timer as it is the first time i have ever tried loading android but i woke up and the screen was still there i am not sure what i have done wrong i have watched videos on youtube and read forums but no one else seems to have had this problem any help would be greatly appriciated thanks
i have just tried to boot an older version of froyo android the 2.2v i got past the first black screen and it went to the black screen where the white writing starts to scroll down the the writing faded into white lines what am i doing wrong
back up your sdcard contents to your computer.
format it, preferably from a linux box. if your stuck with win-blows, then you can do a full format, not the quick format.
now put JUST THE ANDROID folder on the sdcard.
put sdcard in phone, boot into android. when it boots, dont do ANYTHING for 5 min. reboot.
once it reboots, goahead and log in, synch etc.... then reboot
after that you can coppy the rest of the sdcard contents back over and be good to go.
which winmo rom, radio rom, and android build are u using?
i am using the darkstone froyo 3.7 build i am not sure what radio is or which one i am using i will try what you have suggested and let you know how it goes
right i formated (full) the sd car using windows vista the only way i could do this is plugging my phone into my laptop using the usb and formatting it that way
then i copied just the android folder to my sd card
rebooted the phone and went to file explorer opened the android folder doulbe clicked on clrcad then on haret
i was then stuck on the screen that i was before so i waited 5 mins just like you said to rebooted the phone and it was still on windows.
i repeated the same steps and waited ten minutes still no luck
also just so i understand after i waited five minutes should i be able to reboot the phone i do i have to pull the battery out like i did and where you put (when it reboots login etc)
is there any way you could email me a file to see if it is the files i am using
thanks for all you help so far guys!!!!
i am from th UK i dont know if that makes a difference
i have a 2gb sd card
i have just done some research on the radio versions and round a thread called master radio for the htc hd2 on xda but i am unsure which one to use and could this be the root of my problem thanks again
OS version 8.2.2.1869(21869.5.0.82)
manila version 2.5.20121429.0
ROM version 1.72.206 (8637200) WWE
ROM date 04/15/10
radio version 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version 15.32.50.07U
i have just done a bit more research and found out that i need to use a .50 for flashing could this be a problem if i dont could this be th root of my problem
very big part I'd say.... It does say on just about EVERY build that you need a .50 radio NOT a .51....

no, depending on the class (speed) of your card it'll take 15-20 min to initalize on the first boot... theres alot going on in the background.
once its booted...ie: once it shows the initial android log in screen. ie: it has actualy booted into android.
if you pull the battery in the middle of the first boot, you just corupted the data it was writing.
format the card again - get rid of the corupted files.
now start over.
and yes, you got to have the corect radio installed etc.
most roms have a requirements list... if not folow the stickies.
as ive stated a ton of times in a ton of thereads, its worth installing ether droid explorer or adb on your pc if for no other reason but to be able to run a logcat so you can watch it run comandline, aswell as post it so others can help you debug/troubleshoot.
I have the same issue with linux showing that message then it boots up a green htc sign and stays there.. i left it there for 40 minutes waiting to see if anything would happen and never did. I had android running before but did a full format on my sd card and then installed another and this happens everytime i try.
I am running Miri_Dinik- V 19.0 WWE
Radio: 2.15.50.14
I also am using the 16g sd card that came with my tmo hd2
i have been searching for days for an answer and decided to finally make a post to see if i can get any answers
thanks

T-Mobile Splash Screen and Android Boot Screen Removal

First would be the T-Mobile "Stick Together" Splash Screen. I don't want to replace it, just eliminate it.
Second would be the Blue HTC HD2 boot screen from my "DISCONTINUED - Stock Gingerbread Rom" by xboarder56. This screen popped up and then the stock Nexus One ribbons. Eliminated those already.
Any ideas?
Here is what is on the phone:
HSPL 2.08
MAGLDR 1.13
DISCONTINUED - Stock Gingerbread Rom by xboarder56 V 2.0
Sorry to be a "newb" but I have found no way to remove, just replace the splash screen and as far as the boot screen I have hunted through all of the directories and I must just be missing something.
Thanks in advance.
One can replace the first-stage boot screen with anything you want, removing the first stage boot screen however is impossible. There are a number of alternative first stage boot screens, as well as the generic HTC first stage boot screen that differs from the T-Mobile carrier-customized first stage boot screen you're complaining about. I like the "HTC HD2 - Resistence is futile" screen with logos of four operating systems the HD2 can run the best, it was featured on the www.xda-developers.com front page.
With another members help the "Splash Screen" I am talking about is the logo.rle file.
Here is what I have attempted to do thus far to remove it with no luck:
- I have gone into ES File Explorer and Enabled Root as well as mounting the File System as writeable, instead of read only, and it won't let me delete the file.
- Tried to decompress the .dmg on the ROM using OS X 10.6, 7zip on Win 7 x64, and MacDrive to remove it. No luck. None of those will decompress a .dmg that is of an NDIF variety.
Any thoughts?

Did you ever get this resolved? I am also looking to remove a t-mobile start up "splash screen" from a newly bought samsung galaxy s2.
The phone is rooted, however not sure what I am looking for to remove it. I know there are ways to replace with different screens, but just wanting rid to be honest.
I did not unfortunately. Ended up moving onto a different phone as I found the larger screen/ phone a liability. Gingerbread still ran best on the HD2 to this point though. As it sits in it's box, maybe a return is in order. If anyone has an easy solution to this please post.
After a bit of hunting around I ended up getting rid of the t-mobile screen in the end, however I was a samsung galaxy s2 and not htc.
Basically was a case of using odis and flashing it....maybe that will be a way for the htc also

Bootflash for HD2?

Hi guys, has anyone tried the splash screen changer app called 'Bootflash' (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.socaldevs.bootflash&hl=en) on the market? Its device compatibility is limited,so im not sure if it will work on the HD2. But if it does, it will open a whole new level of possibility as us HD2 users can change our splash screens very easily. I dont really want to purchase the app only to find it doesnt work. Also, the free version is not available for download anymore so i cant try it. So can anyone shed some light into this?.Or if you can give me confirmation that the HD2 will emulate the supported devices mentioned, then ill safely purchase it and let you guys know.
the splashscreen on a hd2 is flashed just like a rom or radio, or hspl (and you need hspl to flash them) there are several threads telling you how, several more with splashscreens ready made, or see teh 'custom splashscreens/watermarking' link in my sig if you fancy making your own. Oh and its free.
yeh,tks for your reply, but i was looking to replace the splash.img for the Android ROM itself.the still image(splashscreen) that appears right before the boot animation or right after booting up from MAGLDR. I am aware of changing the stock splash screen(White screen with HTC logo) that appears on pressing the power button...too bad i cant change that cus i cant enter bootloader anymore(volume down button is kaput).
Also, i was wondering if these methods would work (http://android.modaco.com/topic/334451-guide-how-to-change-your-bootanimation-and-splash-image/) :
1) Open/create an image in GIMP with a resolution of 480x800
2) Flip the image horizontally (make sure you FLIP don't ROTATE by 180 or text etc will be reversed)
3) Save The image as ".bmp" and expand the advanced settings menu
4) Choose The format as "16bit format R5 G6 B5"
5) Verify the file size as 768070 bytes
6) Save the file as "splash.bmp"
7) Open Command prompt/terminal navigate to the directory where you saved the image (eg, type " cd C:\documents and settings\\my documents\")
8) Type "fastboot flash splash splash.bmp"
-do help and tks for your time!

[Q] Lost installing Icecream Rojm

Hi, after reading for a long time, finally, this morning I've decided to uninstall wm 6.5 from my htc hd2, replacing it for Icecream Sandwiche.
At this moment I'm in the middle of the way and I can't continue. When I turn on the pda, appears the Magdlr v1.13 menu. Now I should select option 8. Ad Recovery to select the zip, in the sd card, with the rom, but it fails, this message appears: "no boot sources". Can anyone tell me what I have to do, thanks very much.
The step I've followed to arrive here are:
- execute hspl4_run.exe
- execute radio 2.15.50.14
- execute magldr 1.1.3
You didn't flash cwm recovery yet

You haven't listed 'flash CWM' as one of the things you've done. If you haven't flashed CWM, there is no AD Recovery to be booted into, hence the message 'no boot sources'. Just follow this guide, it makes everything simple and straightforward. You can start by flashing the correct CWM partition size. Also try out the HD2 NAND Toolkit in order to make things even easier. Once you've installed CWM with the right partition size, you just install the zip from your SD card.
I'll try just now, Thanks
Hi,
I've made a mistake in my original post. I've forgot to tell one step, the Clockwordmod. In this folder there is a daf.exe that I executed, but it seems to be not ok
Now I've downloaded the 3 files of the guide and I've executed the last one. I've turned on the pda, it seems to be ok but there is only an animated screen saver and I can't do anything more.
Thanks.

Yeah it takes up to 10 minutes for the first boot. The bootanimation will eventually go away, and then on subsequent reboots it will be fairly fast, around a minute or so
But I'm still with the bootanimation. Should I begin all the steps again?
Thanks
Nah just pull the battery and try again. Have you checked that you used the correct partition size for your desired ROM? If you really can't tell, link me to the ROM thread and I'll tell you which size you should be using. Be aware that your battery can't charge whilst the phone is off, so don't keep it on for too long loading the bootanimation. I'd say after a full 20 minutes has passed, the ROM definitely isn't booting and you have to either pull the battery and reboot or you've done something incorrectly along the way.
Hi,
I've used Recovery_400M_system_4M_cache_v3.0.2.4, and then I rebooted.

In that case your partition size certainly isn't too small, but it's definitely a waste of space. On NexusHD2, a 165Mb partition is required. Every mb over that is simply being wasted, so if you flashed NexusHD2 you'd have wasted 235Mb of internal storage, which is quite a lot. Although this won't help your issue, I'd recommend flashing a smaller partition as per the OP of the ROM you wish to use. To change the size which is flashed, open the folder of the downloaded recovery and navigate to the file 'flash.cfg' (not flash.cfg.txt) and open it with notepad (which it does automatically with Windows 7). Change the value of the system partition from 400 to 165 (or whatever size is recommended) and save the file. From here just boot into USB Flasher in MAGLDR and flash the new partition.
Thanks, thanks, thanks a lot. Is the first time I can't do this and I feel happy. I see the problem was the partition too big.
I've configurated just all, also my own language. Now I'm going to navigate through Icecream.

Htc hd2 noob!

Hi all. I feel such a pain for this because to the people who know what they are doing its probably as easy as pie. But I simply don't have a clue do here goes nothing lol...
So I bought a used htc hd2. And I dont like the Windows OS. I Want to change it to android and Thought it would be easy I have tryed watching endless videos and searching for "how to" guides but the things I am doing just wont work. I would really be grateful if somebody could give me help :fingers-crossed:
Please fire away with questions and I will try answer the best I can.
Thank you for reading even if you cant help
From what I know you need to get hspl 2.08 and then flash magldr and then clockwork mod recovery and Then android
rocking out with my android powered ics sense-ation XE B-)
Thanks for the reply, I Have already tryed to download the HSPL and fell at the first hurdle... I think I am right that I need the HSPL before I flash anything? but when I downloaded the HSPL4 put the phone into mode were there is the red green blue and white screen (sorry dont know the correct term for it) and at the bottom I seen in a video where it says "serial" it is supposed to change to "usb" when connected to my computer? Well this didnt happen for me... SOOO, Im LOST!!
There are some windows mobile builds with built in Android. I would look out for them. It would make things a lot easier till your able to get an idea of whats going on. There is a site called http://www.cellphonerepair.net/ The one in VA when I called a few years ago said they could root my phone and install Android on it for $50. There is also a guy on facebook that can do it but charges a arm and a leg. I guess if your really pressed and want it really bad you could always go that route. I would watch the video's though on youtube. In fact watch them a couple times before trying to do anything. Here's a good nand how to while this one might be better if you want a sd build. There are also how to guide's available on ebay for purchase that range from just a dollar or two all the way to about $20. I think having a look at this would be your best bet. There is also a section for "easy android" that may shed some light on some of your questions you may run into. Maybe you might find looking at the youtube video's and reading a little more informative and then feel a little more confident in giving it another go. I know I had to do it that way and I already had a lot of experience from rooting and installing android on the touch pro 2.
Hi, I wouldnt really mind paying for it to be done properly but Im from the UK not US so I dont think that link would be much use. Thanks anyway.
Ok. I have just successfully flashed HSPL4 onto my device. And I am ready for the next stage. I have read this is the MAGLDR. How do I go about getting this onto my device?

Just a note to point out that hspl4 can install 2.08.0000 2.08.hspl 2.10.0000 2.10.hspl 3.03.0000 and 3.03.hspl, so simply "flashing hspl4" is a bit of an open statemnt with no facts.
My point is that magldr will ONLY work if you chose 2.08.hspl, anything else and magldr wont start.
Hi again, I need some more help if anyone can understand my nooby efforts of explaining what I am up to Gettin tired of the same screen now and beginning to want to through the phone off the wall. I have getting to what I think from watchin endless amounts of videos the end of the process. But I am lost on how to get the actual android rom onto the phone. Currently this is were I am up to...
a black screen which reads
aMAGLDR V1.13
Build: Feb 1 2011 03:45:07
by cotulla 2011
Boot menu:
1. Boot WPH
2. Boot AD SD
3. Boot AD NAND

5.USB Flasher
6.USB TTY
7.AD Hardreset
8.AD Recovery
9.Tetris
10.Services
11.Reset
12.PowerDown
This is were I am up to I have tryed to download android roms but dont think I am going the right way about storing them on my computer so they can be put onto the phone? I might be totaly wrong. PLEASEE HELLPP!
have you flashed cwm(clockwork, cwm, cwr, recovery - its called many things)
cos you cant flash teh rom from magldr itself.
so, assuming you havent, , first pick a rom, , for example typhoon. It requires a 150meg partition, , it says so in post 1 or 2, , all roms will tell you this, its important. Dont just think 'oh ill set it to 400meg and then all roms will fit', because you lose any unused space.
SO, from teh magldr screen, choose 'usb flasher', , , , get and run the nand toolkit, , on teh left chooser 150, in cache set to 5, then click magldr repartition.. This will install cwm AND set up teh partitions.
Reboot
in magldr choose 8 - ad recovery
this will start cwm
(put your rom.zip onto the sd card, anywhere, , if you have a card reader use that, if you dont, in cwm choose mounts - mount sd card - dont use teh magldr mass storage option cos it doesnt work)
then, in cwm choose install zip from sd card - choose zip - browse to teh zip file,
done.
When putting the Android ROM of your choice on your SD card it should be in a zip file and look something kind of like this:
H:\typhoonROM.zip it shouldn't be in a folder like H:\hd2roms\typhoonROM.zip
This is the default location when I plug in my SD card to my computer but yours could be E:\, G:\, J:\ etc..
I dont know if this is just a load of rubbish but I downloaded this... is it the right thing?
NexusHD2.ICS.CM9.HWA.V2.4.zip - ZIP archive, unpacked size 188,993,659 bytes

Yep (it shouldn't be unzipped by the way). Now just follow this guide from installing CWM onwards and you should be good to go, assuming you have done everything to this point correctly (HSPL2.08, Radio 2.xx.50.xx, MAGLDR). Note that you will have to adjust the step where it says to flash the correct partition size to the one required for your ROM of choice. The easiest way is probably to use the HD2 Toolkit rather than flashing one of the ones provided, but if you want to you can download one of the CWMs at the bottom of the guide I linked and edit the flash.cfg.
Hi, Thanks for the reply, I have had a look at the guide you posted and it looks better than some of the videos I have been watching on youtube but I dont think I have done the radio bit I have forgot anyway I can tell or anyway I can start over again if I have missed it out?

I personally use 7Zip instead (it's easier and it's free) so I don't quite know, but in 7Zip you don't need to re-compress the contents or anything. That guide is indeed very good and detailed, and to check if you have the right radio, just reboot the device. In the bottom right of the screen (or maybe bottom left, you'll be able to tell when you see it) there's some text. The line next to the R is your radio version. It should be 2.xx.50.xx for you to proceed. If not, then you need to change it.

no because even if you did unzip it, the original zip will still be there and intact wherever you downloaded it to. (unless you chose 'open' instead of 'save' when you clicked the download link, which would be an incredibly stupid thing to do, you have no idea what a file is, and your AV software stands a much better chance of catching baddies when you save them rather than open them directly from the web.)

In the bottom right of the screen (or maybe bottom left, you'll be able to tell when you see it) there's some text. The line next to the R is your radio version. It should be 2.xx.50.xx for you to proceed. If not, then you need to change it.
