Does anyone know of a way to change the data directory of an apk. I'm referring to whats in /sdcard/Android/data/
Specifically what i'm trying to accomplish is for Google Music to use the external sd rather than the internal for it's cache.

I just got the atrix from radio shack and trying to make my sd card from the epic work... all my files are in there including key files, backups etc...
well the atrix has a 'sdcard' folder and the epic's is now sdcard-ext
I need to make the current sdcard folder disappear and make the sdcard-ext the default sdcard folder...
how do I go about this?

The sdcard folder is hard coded into the stock atrix firmware. It may be possible to make the change by rooting and deodexing the firmware.
Easier option would be to just use the included file explorer or one from the market to copy the files over to the internal storage.

I did that, which is PITA. and problem is, anything that stores data (like text logs, backing up data) is all going into sdcard, not sdcard-ext
so when I wipe data for whatever reason, I'm loosing everything everytime...

use the customized recovery to wipe out,
nothing in intermal memory card will be deleted

some apps will give you the option to save to a certain location but most are set to default to your sdcard(internal storage). its because android doesnt assume that you will be using a external sdcard. just backup the stuff you want to keep on your sdcard before you wipe it...what do you mean by making the sdcard folder disappear? sounds like you dont want to use the internal sdcard at all?
Hey, there is a possibility that may work for switching internal and external sdcards.
In /etc/udev folder, there are configuration files for naming the devices. If we can create a configuration file that will force the atrix to mount the external sdcard as if it is the internal card, then what you want will work.
I will experiment with doing this from the adb command line, but this might need to be requested under the development forum.
If I have any success in this, I will start a thread under development and see if we can create an automated method for doing this. Since some apps don't know about the external card, this could be quite handy.
Hey, so I have successfully swapped the internal and external sdcard mount points, the trick is to edit the file /system/etc/vold.fstab
There are two lines that set the mount point of the internal and external storage. Once these are swapped, the cards change mount points, and the external is now mounted on /sdcard instead of /sdcard-ext.
If you have experience changing /system files, you can make this change yourself.
root *DEFINITELY* required.

Is there a way to basically create a symlink to /storage/extSdCard on the internal sdcard? I'm using an app that will only let me view files on the internal card. I'm coming from an HTC phone and the external sd card appeared as /sdcard/ext_sd.
I've tried creating the symlink through Root Explorer, Solid Explorer, and manually via adb (with root). I've tried every location I can find for the internal storage (/storage/emulated/legacy, /storage/emulated/0, /sdcard). Every time it says "link failed Operation not permitted".
I'm wondering if there's a way I can basically mount the external sd card in an additional location (in this case under the internal sdcard)? I've used a custom firmware on a router before that had a flash drive mounted as both /opt and /media/USB, so I think it's possible to have a partition mounted in multiple places.
Does anyone know how to do this, or have suggestion for a different way to accomplish it? Thanks.

I use it to create a symlink between the directory in data/data where Google Music stores files and my external SD card.

Thanks, but I've already tried it and it won't work for this situation.
I found the solution, registered just so I can share this with you or anyone who needs it. Folder mount didn't seem to work for me either.
There is a file manager called 'Lidroid File' and a plugin for it called 'Super mount', both are available for free from the play store.
Install them, and then you can nicely pick a folder on the internal storage to mount the whole microSD in it, simple as that!
I needed this for Samba file sharing as I wanted to see the SDcard on the LAN and give it a network drive letter under windows 7.

Any updates to your solution? Does this still work?
So I updated to 4.3 last night, and now when I try to run TB to backup my apps to my ExtSD, it says I have no storage space left. I checked the settings, and TB now says the folder that is picked, ExtSD/TitaniumBackup, is not writeable. That ain't good. Also, I used ROM Toolbox to create a shortcut from a folder on ExtSD to where Google Music stores music files in /data so i could use my 64GB SD card to store my music instead of my dinky 12GB internal storage. I checked Google Music today, and it is able to play the downloaded music just fine but isn't able to download anymore. These two things make me think there's something different about how 4.3 handles ExtSD, and it's for the worse. Is this a known issue? And if so, is there a fix? Is there ANYTHING I can do to fix it?
EDIT:Also, DoggCatcher is no longer able to download to ExtSD. Kinda starting to freak out here as having an SD card was one of the major reasons I went with a GS4 and it now appears useless

install root explorer app or some other file manager that can use root then
1. navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your device
at this point you should be able to write to the sd card from applications once again.

Hi all, Does anyone know any app that can move the OBB and/or data files (of games) to external storage via OTG? I have tried a number of apps, including, Folder Mount, Supermount, Directory Bind and none worked! I also use StickMount, but that's for another purpose of course. I really like my G2 but i have one annoying issue:
When using one of those great custom roms i end up with pretty much free space on internal storage (system partition).
Since i'm having the 16GB-version i have ~10GB of usable space and currently ~7GB wasted space.
When using OSM-Maps 10GB is not much so i hope there is a way to utilize the free space on internal storage.
I have several ideas but i'm no dev and i hardly know about linux and even less about android.
So thats what i thought of:
Idea 1: Change partition size.
Well i think not a good idea but on my old HTC HD2 i could choose how the storage is partitioned. Don't know if this is possible on G2 and if changes there are not to risky.
Idea 2: Create a virtual SD-Card.
I know that this is possible somehow because i can do that with androidx86 on my tablet. So why dont write an app or zip-File-Patch that creates a custom-size virtual sd-card on internal storage/system partition. Problem is that i can't do that. Help of a dev would be needed.
Idea 3: Redirect folders.
On Linux and Windows it's possible to create "virtual folders" that are just links to the real folder that is stored somewhere else. Pretty handy on windows to move music-library to sd-card with full functions for example.
I think i've seen such things on android too when browsing my device. So why don't move for example the DCIM-Folder and others to internal storage this way?
But again a dev would be needed.
Idea 4: Copy some stuff with root and file explorer.
Thats maybe the simpliest way but i don't know how and where i can copy things. For example i've around 4GB of music on my device and if i can still access it i would have no problem to move it to internal storage somewhere. Maybe to ringtones folder or something like this.
But i'm not sure where i should put it to be on internal storage and access being still possible.
It would be great to further discuss this ideas with you and find some kind of solution.
Well i was able to evaluate on Android 4.2.2 that you can put your music folder into the system/media folder but it was only possible with aroma file manger in recovery.
Then the free space on internal storage gets decreased and the available storage gets increased. This means my files are now inside the system partition.
But there are problems:
Even with root total commander was not able to write things to this directory and even after setting permissions in aroma-fm after reboot i cant write there. So handling is painful.
The music app doesnt find the music now
Found that tool then to create a "link" on sdcard that links to the folder in system/media but that fails because it cannot link to this path.
