Reboot After Sleep on Official OTA 3.1 Update - Eee Pad Transformer General

There are some threads indicating this is a problem after the leaked update. I did the official OTA update today and immediately ran into the issue. After doing a factory data reset to make sure i cleared any possible cob webs out the issue was still there. Tablet runs fine while in use, as soon as it goes to sleep it reboots.
I removed the sd card that was installed and the problem went away. Wondering if anyone can confirm......

I had the issue initially with the leaked 3.1. I factory reset, wiped caches, and it seemed to go away. About 30 minutes ago, it happened again. BTW, I am on PRIMORDIAL.
Questions for you:
Was the tablet docked at the time (mine was each time)?
Your SD card...are you talking about the miniSD or SD in the dock (I had a mini in the tablet, and SD in the dock)?
What is the brand of the SD card (I have a 16 GB AData micro, and a Patriot Class 6 SD in dock).http://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=14345447
Hopefully we can nail this down. Didn't see the issue at all in 3 weeks on 3.01 (Prime), FWIW.

I have the same issue after installing the "Leaked 3.1 update". It was fine without docking to keyboard dock. I used the tablet itself for one whole day without any reboot. The last few days I noticed that it automatically reboot while in sleep mode as well (while docked to keyboard dock). It happened three to four times yesterday and three times today...
I tried to downgrade from 3.1 to 3.0.1 again this morning (using the official 3.0.1 from Asus website). After downgrading I was getting constant "Force Close" error messages. My tablet was totally useless at that point. I was not able to go into "Recovery Mode" to do a data wipe or factory reset. Only way to recover from this was install the "Leaked 3.1 update" again. I am still having automatic reboot issue with this Leaked 3.1 update. I did not do any cache wipe or factory reset yet. I do not want to reinstall and recofigure all of my apps and emails again...

I have had the same issue since I installed 3.1 leaked. Symptoms same as above, whereas my tabelt only reboots while docked and after it goes to sleep. I just removed both my external cards to see if that changes anything. I have a Sandisk mircosd HC 16gb in the tab and a Centon SDHC 16gb in the docking station. Hopefully we can nail this down.
Please let us know if you removed your micro of SD in docking station that solved the issue.
Thanks!

After my official OTA update I have noticed my tablet reboot itself in sleep mode at least three times, and those are the times that I saw. Of note, it WAS NOT docked into the keyboard when it rebooted two of the times, and it might have been docked one of the times. Also, I don't have an SD card installed on mine. I'll let you know if the problem persists.

update! I have removed my sdcard from my keyboard dock and so far, no reboots while docked. Please post if this has solved anyone else's reboots.
Thanks!

So, as I suspected. I too have not had the issue since removing my SD card from the dock 2 days ago. I am 100% convinced at this point that the culprit is here, whether it is a bug in 3.1, compatibility with my brand of SD card, or both.

I did not see reboot after I removed my sd card from my keyboard dock... but I found something suspicious: When my TF is docked to keyboard dock, I will put it to sleep... after few minutes of in-activity, when I tried to wake up the TF... It would not respond. About 30 seconds to 1 minutes later, I will see an Asus logo come up and it goes into the lock screen. I checked my system "up time", it still shows over 20 hours of up time... Really strange... I thought that whenever you see the Asus logo on your screen it means it's booting up or something... Have anyone else seen this happen before? I never seen this happen in android 3.0.1.

Never mind... My TF rebooted three times today while docked on the keyboard dock... This is when I already removed the external SD card on my dock...
I'm wondering if using the custom rom will resolve this issue?

I noticed that there are two ramdump files create today after my TF randomly reboot. I opened up the .log files in windows and noticed the following error messages:
<0>[102067.945373] Internal error: Oops: 817 [#1] PREEMPT SMP
<0>[102067.945409] last sysfs file: /sys/devices/platform/tegra-i2c.1/i2c-2/2-0019/power_supply/dock_battery/status
I have no idea what this means...
Mike

This is exactly why I always wait a couple months before upgrading. Let all you guinea pigs do everything for me first.
What the hell is wrong with these mega companies? Don't they test their own freakin' devices? It's really simple. Before you release an update, test it on your devices first in different situations. It's like asus didn't even bother to do test runs before they released this update.

Unrooted TF here. I always have it docked. Installed the official upgrade as soon as it was available. Played on the tablet for a while, ran a speed test and closed the lid. We've been busy the last couple of days, but after reading about the reboot prob, I opened the tablet every so often to see if I was having the same problem. It was always at the speedtest app, and I simply closed the lid. I'm assuming it never rebooted if it was always at the speedtest app.
Today, I opened the lid, still at the speedtest. I hit the home key, forgot what I did, but it rebooted.
My long-winded point is, does the reboot only happen at the Home screen? I find it odd that for several days this was fine sitting with an app open.

I have a unrooted TF and i just updated on Saturday. I know of 1 reboot (docked w/ sd micro card in) but I also saw a 20% battery drop while closed.

Same issue here
Unrooted Leaked 3.1
MicroSD 32GB Sandisk Class 6
SD In Dock 32GB Class 6 Microcenter Brand
Loaded apps after a hard reset post 3.1, maybe 20 or so apps installed, still observed
the reboot issue, I could be sitting in pandora or slacker and it would reboot.
It would also reboot just sitting at the home screen.
I have hard reset again from the boot loader and have not installed anything, only have gmail configured.
I have removed both flash cards and I will see what happens.
I like 3.1 but this is a PITA.

Random Reboot after update to leaked 3.1

Hi All,
I installed the leaked 3.1 for my TF on Saturday night. It worked fine yesterday, but this morning I saw my TF automatically reboot while in standby. This happened twice already since this 10 am this morning. Has anyone experience automatic reboots on my TF after installing the leaked 3.1?
Mike
Nope.
Did you wipe the cache before updating? Usually, that prevents a lot of wierd stuff from happening...

Isn't "wipe cache" for rooted device with CWM installed? My TF is not rooted and does not have CWM installed.
I have that problem with 3.0.1. Guess they didn't fix it.

I didn't see this issue on my TF with 3.0.1 until I update it to 3.1. But did noticed that all the reboots occurred when I docked it with the keyboard dock. It didn't reboot at all yesterday I was just using the tablet itself. This is really strange.

The past couple of days my 3.0.1 stock ROM transformer's been rebooting, freezing and crashing when plugged in the dock (on the 0209 firmware). It all seemed to start when the dock battery was completely depleted and I continued to use the pair plugged into each other and since then it's being a real pain (even while plugged into the mains and the dock was fully charged). After a couple of charge/discharge cycles in the dock it seems to have fixed itself for now.
I'm hoping the new firmware due for the dock where it shuts down when unplugged from the tablet will fix it as at the moment if it gets in a bad state there's not much I can do about it.
I have had the dock and tablet for some time now, so it's something software based that has come for no apparent reason and has eventually fixed itself (after a day or so of frustration).
no random reboots here, been using it extensively for 2 days.
We had another post regarding this... ever since I went to the leaked 3.1 mine has also been randomly rebooting while in sleep mode. Once it even did it twice in like 5 minutes. It doesn't reboot or have any issues when I'm using it though.. wish I knew what was up! Hopefully it will stop once I get it rooted and a custom rom installed..
I'm still getting random reboots. Just looked over from my computer and it was on the Asus loading screen... again!

ICS: random reboots and resumes

Got the ICS update the other day on my totally stock US wi-fi Xoom.
So far, reliability has taken a step backwards.
1. The thing wakes up at random. As in, just sitting there on the nightstand sleeping, and all of a sudden it wakes up as if I had tapped the power button.
2. It's happened at least once so far where it just spontaneously rebooted. It was just sitting on the nightstand, and all of a sudden the screen turns on and the unit is (re-)booting. Might be an evil incidence of issue #1.
3. Tapping the power button sometimes doesn't work and I have to tap it multiple times or tap and hold it in order to get the tablet to wake up.
WTF? I understand that glitches are inevitable with new software but wow, this is pretty basic reliability stuff... the final Honeycomb version on this tablet was rock solid for me.
Also, in contrast to others' reports, I think browsing has also taken a step backwards. It takes longer to load pages, and sometimes I just wind up with an empty white screen instead of a rendered page.
I suppose I could try resetting to shake out any demons but I would very much like to avoid doing that unless it's really known that it fixes some of these issues.
Any thoughts?
Are you using a dock?
I upgraded and it's running way better. No bugs that I can find so far. Wake up lag is nonexistant. No reboots or wakes. Battery is lasting about a day longer than before.
I'm having this problem. I thought it was dock related but looks like I was wrong.
I left it undocked all night and woke up in the morning and found it was at the "enter your password" screen for encrypted tablets.
I also get the problem where it doesn't wake up from sleep, have to force reboot it. Am gonna do a full wipe today and see if that helps, will report back.
I recently GED-ified mine, wonder if that makes a difference, it was originally on the UK/EU honeycomb firmware.

Seems like the only people having the issues use a dock. Maybe it has something to do with being charged by the dock if its happening off the dock too?
Do a little testing. Don't use the dock for a few, two or three days after your reset to see if you have any issues. Then dock it and see if the issues come back?
I have no issues but have never docked it once. Don't own a dock.

I doubt it is related to the dock. Sometimes you just get a bad download...like a slight power surge while downloading, or whatever. I'm not on stock, but from my experience on ICS, the issues you report are related to your own software install and not the OS or dock hardware.
I am using the standard dock and no issues here at all.
I wiped via Android settings and booted in, signed in, etc. Was changing some settings and it just rebooted :| Have wired it up to adb, hoping it happens again so I can see why.
The dock doesn't work right either. Putting the tablet on the dock doesn't cause it to sleep automatically after a time, and taking it off the dock does not cause it to automatically wake up.
ICS is a definite step backwards, at least for some of us. Hopefully there will be occasional updates like there were for Honeycomb. By the end of Honeycomb, things were nice and stable.

Try wiping your Tablet and then reinstalling all your apps. That might help you out.
I reset the tablet. This does in fact seem to have made things better.
Maybe there's some apps, or settings or whatever that don't carry over well into ICS.
The tablet has not turned itself on by itself and it's behaving about as I expect with the dock. I still think something is a bit 'off' in terms of how the tablet sleeps and resumes automatically when docked and undocked, but it's at least not behaving like there's a ghost in it.
My one is still doing random reboots, came back home from work and found it had a mere 1 hr of uptime, I left it in my drawer undocked.
when I upgraded I noticed certain apps that weren't ics ready needed to be reinstalled. Try uninstalling everything that isn't a stock app then slowly add those apps back. Ideally if you can identify the app you can let the developer know so they can fix their app.

Could be overclocked at to high a speed for your CPU, or you're using the wrong governor. Or some other combination of settings, or needing to do a wipe before flashing a new GApps version...
Hmm its on lag free and at 1408mhz could that be the issue?
Thanks

I have the same problem. Random reboots and freezes while the tablet is idle. I deleted all downloaded apps and wiped the tablet - to no avail. This is what I found out so far:
The reboots/freezes only happen when the tablet is idle, never when I'm working.
No reboots when USB is connected (so you can't use adb to find out the cause)
No reboots in Airplane Mode
Any ideas? Before the ICS update my tablet was fine

try interactive.
u do a full wipe (factory reset)
I'm on eos and have not had a random reboot since 5
Mine is also having problems. I put the stock rom on there via CWM recovery with the modified file that got rid of the device check.
If I leave it sitting around for a while even in airplane mode the performance of the whole tablet just plummets. There is literally nothing happening to it when I'm not using it either. Random reboots (almost on cue when I stop using it), etc.
My device history was that I had Honeycomb stock and a locked bootloader, then unlocked (and wiped obviously) and loaded ICS. I then wanted to see if I could get the official OTA update so I flashed back to 3.2.1, and then flashed ICS again.
Edit: On second thought, maybe I should try eliminating apps before I say anything
I'd suggest a Factory Reset for those having consistent random reboots. More than likely it is an app or app related that didn't move over well during the upgrade/update. Especially if you weren't having these problems before the update/upgrade.
I personally always Factory Reset whenever my device goes from one OS version to the next OS version and then re-download the apps as needed (this usually makes for a good cleanup as well, I find a few apps I downloaded I never end up using).
My Xoom has been up 267 hours and would be longer if I hadn't turned it off while away from my charger(s) for an extended time. It has never rebooted on it's own or locked up since getting the ICS update.
With the eos rom i do not have random reboots but sometime my xoom wont wake up. I have to reboot it manually with power-volume up.

Sleep of death & wifi issues

Absolutely love the tab but having 2 very annoying problems that occur very regularly.
1/ wifi keeps disconnecting when in use. The indicator still shows it is active but it doesn't work. Have to restart the wifi & it will be fine for another half hour or so then would stop working again.
2/ sleep of death. Happens every night since I've had it. I leave it on standby & in the morning it doesn't wake. Takes a good 10sec plus press on the power button to switch it back on.*
I've tried hard reset with absolutely no apps loaded except for the preloaded ones & still the same.
I thinking of selling it & getting something else but nothing out there comes close
The wifi issues might be a compatibility problem as my Galaxy Note also did that disconnection with my Asus router but not on my Linksys, with the Tab7.7 I've never experienced the same issue on both Asus and Linksys.
For the sleep of death, we dont really know whats causing it but a lot of people say its the aggressive level of deep sleep that the Exynos is using, this also affects the Note and the Tab7.0 Plus.
I'm thinking of returning the tab but for other reasons.
I've only had my 7.7 for little over a week, but i've had none of those issues. Running stock with the latest updates. Linksys routers at home and work, even tethered to my Galaxy S II hasn't had any drops.
I'm having the same problem with wifi. Using a dir-555 router. Tried both with wpa and wpa2 but the tab still hangs as you desribe.
Never had a sleep of death. Just 2 hangs while using during the last 2 weeks.

As expected my tab has shut down again
I have had my 7.7 for only 5 days, but never had any problems with it (yet).
I read in post somewhere that the SD card was causing shutdowns so I will remove the Lexar 32gb class 10 card tonight & see what happens.
I have the deep sleep thing occasionally. It feels sluggish when entering the PIN password, like it is struggling to wake up (we all have days like these, don't we?
It's fine after half a minute or so. Not very often encountered, but when it does go into deep sleep, the battery life is fantastic, like it's hardly used at all.
Oh, I thought I would be the only one with the deep sleep problem. But then it can't be the Exynos to be blamed, I reckon. When my Tab freezes it does so shortly after going to sleep mode. Just 5mins ago it happened and the last thing I've noticed was the notification sound for new Skype messages shortly before. It also happened yesterday while I held the Tab in my hands, screen turned off and when I tried to wake it up just nothing happened. Long-press power and turn back on the Tab is all that helps.
I'm also using a 32GB Lexar MicroSD card since about a week but I'm not sure if the deep-sleep probs occur only since then.

Looks like I have found the right thread. Only got mine on Saturday and I have had the sleep problem many times, and the wifi issue for the first time last night. Very disappointing because in every other way this is the perfect tablet. And I can't really return mine since a mate got it for me when travelling back through Hong Kong airport...
It looks as though I have firmware version ZSKL2, from Settings -> About Device.
Has anyone tried going to a later version? This thread has details, but I am not going to have time today to investigate.
P6810ZSKL2_CSC_ZZT.exe - Last Modified by Samsung: 19.12.2011.It looks like there are 4 versions more recent than that, but the whole thread needs reading to understand what it all means (sorry - that sounds lazy, but no time now). I wonder why there is a list of 6 then a dashed line then another 3?
Edit: I do have an SD card in place - a Samsung 16GB Class 10.
I'm on my 2nd week of enjoying my 7.7 and none of these issues are showing up.
I had it running for 4 days without charging, while connected to my home wifi with background data and auto snyc ON. Battery is at 7% on the 4th day, I only use it in the morning before going to work (reading newspapers and checking email) and at night (reading books, checking emails and playing a bit of poker).
My firmware version is P6810ZSLA1.
I forgot to take the SD card out last night but it was left plugged in as I ran low in battery power. First time ever no sod. So maybe it is something to do with power management.
The wifi though continues to drop out without reason. Happened several times while I was watching QPR The Four Year Plan last night on tvcatchup (by the way great programme)

Is the wifi dropping the same as the old problem of the P1000s? This is the main reason why i replaced my 7" with the 7.7".
I will post tonight my firmaware version.
I also have the WIFI dropping issue, looks connected but suddenly drops internet access oldought the connection persists (if the icon is to be believed)
Anyone found a solution to the WiFi droputs? Mine has started doing this also.
for the SOD issues, try turning off wifi when the device goes to sleep (its an option in the wifi settings)
also, try to do a nandroid of your current rom and then flash the latest firmware for your country to see if that will fix the wifi dropping issues? (just a guess) as long as you have your cwm nandroid, you can always flash back to your stock rom
Finally got round to taking out the SD card last night. It's a Lexar 32gb class 10. First of all I found the tab battery lasted quite a bit longer and NO sod.
That's the first time since I had the tab, nearly 2 weeks, that no sod other than a few nights ago when it was left plugged in. Also since the SD card been removed I not had any wifi dropouts.
Looks like there may be a connection here. I'm going to leave it like this for a few days to see what happens then try a different SD card
I find it odd if a memory card can cause more battery drain and wifi drop issues.
I encountered an issue now its not a sleep of death but I was using the tab before taking my lunch and I had it charging, when I came back the entire back side was extremely hot! I unlocked the screen but it would not register my touch commands, was forced to power down the tab... its been off for about 3mins now and the back side is still very warm.

Uninstalled Honeybar and installed Gesture Control and WiFi working again. Probably a coincidence but am glad to have it working again. Been two days now with no issues.

Verizon i815 random reboots

Had my Verizon 7.7 i815 since 4-30 and love it except for one issue - it reboots at least
once a day usually when its connected to the charger.
I need help figuring out if this is a hardware issue so I can just exchange it or if is
software/other issue that I can resolve myself.
When it reboots it goes to a black screen with a single white dot in the center.
It is playing the reboot jingle when this happens.
Sometimes it will bootloop and I have to press the power button for a few seconds to
reset the tab.
Honeybar is installed and AdwLauncherEx is the launcher.
I have tried booting to stock recovery and clearing the cache and did a factory reset - didnt help.
The tab is rooted.
I also removed the Sandisk 16gb microsdhc card after a reboot at 5 am because I had read about users who were having issues with their tabs until removing or switching out their sd cards. The tab went without rebooting after that for 19 hours until I installed
Hidebar. After installing hidebar the tab rebooted twice within a minute so these two instances may be because of that app. I uninstalled it after that and went back to
Honeybar.
I have only experiened a white dot reboot when trying to swap the phone.apk (it was a never ending reboot). I otherwise haven't had it reboot on me. I don't use any bar hiding apps.
Sent from my SCH-I815 using xda premium
Just to be clear my tab was having the reboot issue long before
I installed hidebar - I only installed hidebar tonight and have
owned the tab for a week.
I am however able to cause the reboot consistently with hidebar.
Well the reboots started again after almost an entire weekend reboot free.
Going to exchange it at Verizon for another 7.7 tonight.
Good luck! hopefully the new one is error free.
I've had the same issue with mine, also a vz 7.7.
It was happening in a loop the other day and I managed to capture a video of the entire sequence.
I don't actually think this is a reboot but instead seems to be more of a screen and radio lockup.
I get the little dot in the middle of the screen. After 20 seconds or so the tab goes back to the lock screen. Once unlocked it has to re-connect to either Verizon or Wifi.
I tried disabling the wifi and 3g/4g networks and this seemed to improve the situation but yesterday I was able to get it to do the same thing with the radio's disabled so probably not chip related.
I'm still within my return window I think. Seriously considering returning the thing mainly due to this problem and the lack of ICS.
Had a GT8.9 previously and even though the screen isn't quite as nice it was a pretty great tab and cost half as much *and* can access the awesome AOKP ICS rom.
--tr
Yep, development for this tab is non-existent at the moment.
I'm stickin' it out tho and hoping for CM9 sooner or later.
Same here. I can't find a pattern to what triggers it. The first time i was installing a bunch of apps from my computer via Google Play (not tethered to PC). I pull my microsd and sim and it continues for several cycles. Did a bunch of the stuff you did also w/ clearing the cache and actually the first time i couldn't get it out of the loop (it would actually get into the desktop where it looks like it would be ok, then suddenly screen w/ the white dot in the middle and looping again). Never got close to depleting the built-in storage, so that's not the factor.
Sometimes I can get it to stop by turning it off by holding power down and turning it back on again. It doesn't happen a lot, but it's freakin annoying when it starts.
I don't have honeybar, but am running ADW.
Wow, good to know others who are going through the same issue...I thought I was the only one! I still have the reboot loop issue even after performing a hard reset. For me, the reboot loop only occurs when I'm on a cellular connection. If I'm on wifi or on airplane mode, it doesn't happen. I'm well past the exchange/return policy so this is extremely irritating.
Personally, the most frustrating thing is that my tab will be fully charged at the start of my day, then in my bag for the morning while I'm at work and then, when I take it out to use it, the battery is completely drained because of the reboot loop!!!
I'm hoping an update (ICS?) will fix the issue but I'm not holding my breath for it...
Same issue here. I am rooted, and originally thought the reboot was from Gesture Control app (awesome app!) when hiding navi bar. But after reading this thread, I'm not so sure.
I've only had the reboot loop once, here is my setup when it happened....
-had just unplugged from charger after full charge
-Mobile data was off, Wifi was set to sleep....never when plugged in..
-The device kept rebooting, so I powered off, went into recovery, wiped cache. I also turned off Gesture Control app functions (not sure if this was necessary however). This seemed to stop the reboot loop.
Would be nice if we could keep gathering info on the conditions that cause this, and potentially find a solution. It sucks having a dead tablet because of this issue.
My 7.7 does the same thing. I don't use the tab constantly, but I do notice the reboot on a fairly regular basis. Same symptoms as everyone above, except for me it doesn't go into a loop, it just reboots once with the white dot and then comes back fairly quickly, so not really a full reboot. I don't see the Verizon & Samsung splash screens, just the white dot then the login screen.
Mine is not rooted, has the stock ROM, and does not have any UI enhancing apps or mods. It's pretty much stock other than having applications installed, and nothing that really runs in the background because I have Advanced Task Killer kill auto kill every 30 minutes.
Not that big of an issue for me right now, but would definitely like to see it resolved.
gawd! It doesn't happen a lot, but when it does it's friggin annoying. Yes, it's the white dot and doesn't show the full bootup splash, kinda just goes to the desktop again seems ok for a minute and then boom- black screen w/ dot in the middle and it starts over again.
This last bout was pretty bad and it didn't respond to shutting it completely down by holding the power button and letting it boot again, which has sometimes fixed this in the past when it's looping like this.
Can't tell what is causing it, at first i thought maybe a live wallpaper, the 64GB sandisk microsd card, or a faulty sim (sometimes my tablet says SIM not inserted, even if it is). I tried changing all of those but it still happens. I haven't found a pattern of usage or other type of trigger to make it do this though.
I've only ever experienced this when I tried adding in the mms and dialer app from the GSM 7.7. Otherwise my tab has been rock solid.

Moto Z Force - Restart Loop

I'm having this issue on my 2 week old Moto Z Force.
I actually noticed a similar issue on a display model in Verizon but chalked it up to just that.. a display model in Verizon and I carried on with my purchase.
I've had a few experiences where it randomly reboots and then it's good to go again. Seems to happen more frequently when the phone is in high use, so I suspected an issue with RAM being full? The restart seems to take place at the same part of the startup animation every time.
TODAY - phone was in pocket while I was on a call for work and I felt it vibrate on a consistent interval. When off the phone, I looked at the phone and it is in a restart loop. The only thing I can do at this point is hold the Volume Down key to get into BIOs (through the rebooting loop) and then I have the following uptions:
1) Start
2) Restart Boot loader
3) Recovery Mode
4) Power Off
5) Factory Mode
6) Barcodes
7) BP Tools
8) QCOM
9) Bootloader Logs
If I sit in this menu inactive for awhile it will timeout and just shut the phone off until I turn it back on and then the loop resumes. I'm beginning to think I need to go with option 5 here... any help is appreciated...
No new apps were recently installed. I barely used my phone the morning when getting to work besides charging it to 90+/- % on my way in.
First I buy a hand grenade of a phone, forced to return, and now I buy a phone that is actually showing me a big issue (it is getting hot too). I'm going to let it sit off before trying a Factory Mode. :crying:

Thanks Steve. Any suggestion on where would be best? I would have thought the Q&A would be accurate...
I have had this phone for just over two month and have not had any similar issues. I assume that you've already tried options 1, 2, and and 4. Have you also gone into recovery to see if you can clear the cache?
I would personally return it as broken, but I save everything important to my SD, just in case this kind of thing happens.
I had this very same issue. I did a hardware replacement with Verizon and the new phone works great.

Awesome! Glad to hear that it worked out for you. Fingers crossed they don't give me a refurbished model (again, mine was 2 weeks old) and that I have the same luck as you.

I have tried all of the options at this point and none of those work. I can't even get into recovery. Every option does the same thing... reboots, reboots, reboots, etc.
New phone should be here tomorrow. I've got the good old run around on this one though and I'm not happy about it with Verizon and Best Buy. Best Buy's return policy is 14 days and I ran into issues on day 16, no exceptions according to them and off to Verizon I go where I had to purchase a temporary flip phone for the week my phone has been out of commission.
I'm in need of a new SD card before I put anything on there, it has been flaky. The only thing I care about on my phone is the media (photos, videos, and music), all of which are on Google. The crap thing is that now I need to spend another X hours putting all my apps, passwords, etc. on it to my liking. Just did this when moving to the Note 7, then Moto Z Force, and now again with the replacement. Starting to get annoyed.
Update - when switching to the replacement device I found the issue followed to the new phone... Meaning the issue was with the SD card or the SIM card. Found it was an issue with the SD card after switching between the two phones and experimenting. Unreal. Who would have thought?!
I will be formatting the card and keeping this thread posted on if that resolves it or if it's time for a new card (as I mentioned above).
I am very hopeful with your post. My phone has been going crazy with the rebooting mode for two days now. I brought it into Verizon yesterday but all of a sudden (of course) it started working. Now today its gone back to rebooting, over and over and over again. 2nd day in a row I am going to waste my lunch hour and run to Verizon. This time I will ask them about a new SIM card. BTW... I just got a new (refurbished) less then a week ago.

I just fixed my Moto Z Play by removing the SD card... for the second time... -_- I've had a previous issue where my phone rebooted as part of an update and it stopped seeing my previous SD card. After checking the SD card in various other systems, I found the SD card was completely shot. After some digging online, there is apparently an issue with the new Moto Z's that if your SD card isn't fast enough (somewhere around 85-90+ Mb/s)m, the Moto Z will slowly start to eat your SD card until it fails and causes issues for your phone. In this case, my second SD card failure was that my phone went into infinite booting loops until I removed the card. -_-
This card lasted longer, mainly I think due to the fact that it was larger and faster then my previous one, but it looks like I will need to get a new fast card.
Anyways, I hope this helps you or anyone else who comes across this thread.
About 2-3 weeks ago, the same thing started to happen to me, after that, phone started to act crazy...
-Bluetooth connection was working but glitching,
-Overheat (bottom of the phone) then started reboot in loop (until at start I'm able to turn off wifi). Did everything your supposed to do, clear cache, forget network, deleted my latest app, reboot, reboot in safe mode, remove sd/sim tray... the issues we're still there...
-After a few days of repeating all those steps (or don't know what I did), I finally got rid of the oveheat reboot loop when the wifi is on. But can only see and connect to 2,4g network, no 5g (doesn't see any) and no Bluetooth (turns on, but doesn't see anything), every other device in house works and connect like they should.
-the setting app, and the phone app started to be slow (freezes for a few seconds before the system ask you if you wanna wait or close the app, I choose wait and the app unfreeze)
-Ive tried the rsa (repair system assistant) from verizon without any fix
-finally decide to go for the factory reset. It fixed the freezing issues, works like a charm, but still no 5g wifi nor Bluetooth...
Is there a driver update possible for this ? Or because of overheat it might have damage the device...
I have the phone since September, never had any issues, went through all update, force droid edition xt1650-02, build ncl25.86-11.5, nougat 7.0 (wish verizon would update to 7.1.1 anytime soon), since its gsm unlocked, I'm using it on a Canadian network (Fido)
thanks for this thread. It was able to help me diagnose my wifes phone. The SD card she has been using since her DROID CHARGE (2011!!!) finally bit the dust in this phone. I swapped it out for a new Sandisk micro sdxc uhs-I up to 80 MB/s card class 10 and it booted. funny thing was she was not even storing pictures on the card.

I've had bootloops happen a couple of times for different triggers, and I still run the phone stock since release date with no updates ever taken. This has worked to correct the issue for me a couple of times. Give it a try:
Let your phone get down below 5% battery life, then plug into the turbo charger. Then fool around with whatever triggers the reboots.
Eventually the phone will not restart because the phone's battery needs to charge a little. When phone charges beyond 10% try to turn the phone back on, and see if boot loop persists. If it persists drain below the 5% battery life and try again. Usually, when I have fooled around with this scenario two or three times the bootloop has corrected itself.
Hope this works for you. Good luck.
Thanku, I will definitle give it a try .... and i am updated to nougat all updates till date installed...
Still restarts.... its been a month... without solution..

A couple of weeks ago, the restart loop happened to me again, and my usual tinkering while connecting and disconnecting Turbo Charger wouldn't work. So I did some research on "stuck power button" or "power button not working".
I did the following:
I blew with my mouth over the power button (kind of like puting your lips in position to whistle)
I also gently tried to clasp the power button using a pair of tweezers, but couldn't. Instead I just kind of lifted/tugged-on the power button from the top and bottom.
I feel like I didn't really do anything, but the phone has been working for over a week now. Maybe pure luck.
Its weird, this made me think it is a hardware issue, but somehow the phone reacts as if it were software related.
Give it a try. Hope you have some luck.
