Just letting everyone know that there is a new Huawei phone, it's called Sonic and it has Gingerbread 2.3.4. Maybe you guys can have a look at the lib/kernel, there could be something useful for the X5.

There's also the M865 and IDEOS X3 that have 2.3, but as far as I can find no source has been released for any of these phones yet. Also no updates or firmware to get a config or libs from.
Here in Oz they've also released the Ideos X1 which looks very very like the Ideos U8150, and still has version 2.2 OS. Hopefully when Gingerbread update is available for that one, it should also work for the U8150 (because I own one of these little beauts as well as my big U8800.
What is the big difference the ideos x5 & x6??
I have looked on gsm arena & noticed most of the hardware & functions are the same, so what is stopping x6 rom from running on x5??
I'm a bit of a noob at this, so anything could be helpful when deciding to stick with my x5 or upgrade to the x6.
Thanks
The differences I don’t know but the similarities I can tell you exactly.
They are both Huawei there for both belong to ****ty brand.
Also if you ever contact them for support, well imagine what will happen....
Save you money to buy another device, even that is more expensive.
DO NOT BUY HUAWEI!!!!!
This is a friendly advice of a owner of 2 Huawei devices!
The time has come for my u8800 and me, to take on different paths. I'm selling it today and i'm eagerly waiting for my SGSIII to arrive.
The only reason i started a new thread about it, is that i would like to thank from the bottom of my heart, all the developers that kept this phone active and solved all the problems Huawei couldn't be arsed to, including but not limited to: DZO, Stockwell, Blefish, FransiscoFranco, Genokolar & hcdrjacob (who did try to bring us CM7 despite all the hate he got from this forum and that a huge +1) and everyone else i accidentally forgot to mention. You guys are our "everyday heroes". You took a software-broken phone and turned it into a masterpiece.
That's all for now.
Thank you all
I'm in exactly same situation. We had a good run. Thanks to all the devs. Especially dzo, who made the best rom for ideos x5 in my honest opinion. Thank you very much.

If you guys won't be using your phones any longe there's one guy that accidently was responsible for showing that our X5 could play FM. He's mikereidis and he did it blindfolded, because he doesn't own a X5, nor he can buy it in its home country.
If you can, send it one of your X5s and maybe the FM support can improve even more on our X5 and on other weird Tavuara phones.
