My desire hd volume buttons have stoped working any ideas
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Hi there, my volume down button has also stopped working, been broken for a couple of months now. I know I need to return it to stock rom and remove clockwork and all that so I can send it back to HTC as i think it's obviously something that they should fix under warranty. Unless someone knows how to get the button working again.
In the meantime I use an app called Volume control +.
I need to get my phone back to stock state, any help with that would be appreciated.

This was one of the reasons i sent my original Desire HD back to HTC, there were a few problems. It was one of the first shipment into the country and I honestly think HTC rushed the first couple of batches as build quality was truly appalling. They sent me a brand spanker complete with all accessories including another 8GB SD. Took them close to a month for the whole thing, but that was through carphone warehouse who had it in their repair centre for a few days knowing full well that they're not allowed to touch HTC repairs. Probably should have sent it direct, but it all ended well.
Think I will be contacting HTC as now my WiFi only says error both thease problems have accord since I.did the gingerbread update ofver the air this phone has no cooked Rom on it

When I rooted my phone I had to downgrade the firmware from 1.72 to 1.32. would I need to upgrade the firmware to 1.72 in order to fix the power button?

No i don't think that would fix as I too am having this problem on gingerbread. It seems like a quite a few desire hd's may be suffering from this problem. Best thing to do is return it under warranty

guys i posted earlier today that that my phone kept switching off, i thought i fixed it but now its switched off and will not come back on! ive tried charging it but doesnt seem to have any affect, i want to send back to HTC but im using a custom rom, and as it doesnt switch on i can not flash a stock rom, so my warranties gone down the drain, any1 got any ideas? i was thinking off buying a new battery but i doubt thats the problem as it would have work when i put it on charge
guys if i manage to get the phone on what stock rom/radio do i flash? im in the uk with tmbile
same here but..
i have been using htc touch hd since last February (ard) and its not that long time but my touch hd is showing problems like its dead quite often i cant see anything in my screen (but i can hear vibration on calls)and it only works once i reset i even tried factory restore but doesn't work. its same and if its problem of any other third party software i have only spb mobile shell, and skyfire.
can i know what is solution for me if i get replacement from htc. its really ridiculous to have such a product which doesnot even work for half a year.
Leave the battery out for a couple of days, and see if it can start up after that. If not, then the chances are that HTC will not see the custom rom as they will replace the main board (that is what they did for me).
In future, use USPL as this gives the fastest and easiest way to get back to a stock rom. It means that you can just install the stock rom without having th flash back to the stock SPL and can be done easily if your screen breaks.
If you can flash your device, flash it with the latest ROM from HTC if it was non branded. If you have Hard SPL, you will have to flash that back as well.
It appears that this problem is becomming more widespread - it has happened to me plus a few others.......... therefore i guess HTC will be aware of this issue.
i hade the same problem as you. And i had duttys 3.4. I had no problem whit the warranties.
If you can't even get phone to start, chances are its a motherboard problem and likelyhood is that HTC will just replace motherboard without evenm looking at whats installed on device. Others have had same problem and they had no problems. However I CANNOT stand by this 100%. It will be a risk!!
thanks guys the phone wont start so im hoping they will just fix the mother board and send it back and hopefully that will be the end of it, ill keep you guys updated they are picking it up in the morning
My phone became unresponsive yesterday. I was able to flash the stock ROM and HSPL back to 2.8000 before I sent it back.
I talked to the tech for a bit and he said that this is a common problem they have encountered. Maybe I'll have a replacement by the end of this week.
I flashed 8 different ROMs with no success.
How old was the phone before it went out? Screen separation/button issues or did the screen just stop? Drop it or some other physical damage?
Had the same problem, Updated to new rom 3.xx whatever and the phone went dead.
Workaround found
I found a work around, I have only tried this in android. Press the power button to turn the screen on, Then when it comes on it will not be responsive.
However if you turn the screen off then back on and try and unlock it it will respond and also i have noticed if the phone wakes it self up it will be responsive again.

+1. I too got annoyed to be using such a crappy workaround.. So called up HTC and sent the phone for warranty repair yesterday. Lets see how it goes.. I bought the phone off craigslist and HTC confirmed that its manufacture date was June'10.
I also put a note with steps to recreate this error. After some reflashing ROM/ Radio, my touchscreen started working again, but when I pressed Power button first time, the screen froze.. So I put that down in the steps.
Got my new phone... Quickly went back to hspl3 and back to android. the problem with my old phone was a loose windows button.

What exactly did you tell them when sending it in? Did you just tell unresponsive touch screen or what? My phone's touchscreen was not responding at all, but for some reason it started working again using the power button trick.
This is what happened to me:
I sent my phone to HTC and those idiots just flashed a fresh OS and sent it back as-is. I had sent a paper with steps to recreate the error, but the jokers are dumb enough to not even read it.
Called back HTC and they are sending a prepaid label to send it back! Wtf.. company run by idiots..
I have the same problem here. The trick doesn't work for me
I have same problem ... it's completely unresponsive now.
I'm sending it back to HTC
BTW, this could be the reason why my touch screen died

SECTION 7-WARRANTY RETURNS
As much as I would like to say that it doesn't happen, the HD2 does indeed sometimes completely fail because of user error, or just plain hardware faults and must be returned to either T-Mobile or HTC. The warranty process can be a scary one, especially if you HardSPL'd your phone or installed a custom ROM. But fear not! You can get your device back to stock rather easily! In this section I am going to cover the more common HD2 failures and their solutions, as well as how to revert back to your stock carrier ROM and SPL for warranty purposes. Now, this guide assumes that you bought your HD2 from a T-Mobile store and that you are a T-Mobile USA customer. If you purchased your HD2 through an online reseller, or are not with T-Mobile USA, the only option you have is to send your device to HTC directly and have them repair it. See the bottom of this section for more info.
Q1-MY TOUCHSCREEN DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE! WHAT HAPPENED? DID SOMEONE SET ME UP THE BOMB?
A-Where you running Android? For some reason, there seems to be a connection between touchscreen failure and running Android on the HD2. No one currently knows why it happens more often under Android, but it does happen. Please run Android at your own risk. If your screen fails under WinMo, it's more than likely just a strange hardware quirk, and not because of what you are running.

Hi everyone,
I am using HD2 more than 1 year. I used SD version android in my phone. After few month, my phone freeze in android also in WM platform. All hard keys are working but no response in touch. Even cant unlock the phone when phone starts.
Then I sent it to HTC service in sweden. They repair it and sent me back.
After few days, I am facing the same problem. Even I have installed HSPL (1,2,3,4), updated radio. Also Installed NAND Android.
Now its starts with android but no touch key works at all. (All hard keys working). What can I do now? I need help. Please, anyone, any suggestions?

Sorry about that! Looks like the touchscreen is damaged or faulty! Send it back to repairs! Happened to me but i had no warranty
Note: Next time post in android Q&A section
Digitizer
Your digitizer failed to respond, therefore, you have to send it for repair unfortunately.
On a sidenote, you posted this in the wrong section. Please be careful with this the next time you start a thread
Well thats odd.. I am facing the exact same problem since today! And ive read on a
number of sites that this is caused by the excessive use of the end-call button (screen on / screen off)..
Sounds plausible as my HD2 is dated from december 2009..
In my case the touch screen works fine after I take out the batterij and reboot.
But as soon as I use the end-call button I am facing problems..
A quick workaround is to install "screen off and lock" from market and place
a shortcut on you homescreen to turn off your display and NEVER use the
hardware end-call button again.
Or send the HD2 to HTC repairs and wait 2~4 weeks or worse..
Edit: Found another trick that actually works.
"The digitiZer is under the hangup button. press the button bit hard till it nudges the digitiser a little. it worked for me."

The had the same problem happen to me. I had hspl and android on it so I flashed the stock wm6.5 rom and took it to T-Mobile where they were able to get the touch screen to respond to touch. Since then, I've reflashed mdj's cm7 android and no problems. But I agree, I believe the red/end call key is the blame.

Send it back to service center.
As I'm told since mine been in twice to the repairs for the same error, we have 2 years warranty on HTC devices in Sweden.

Thank you all.
@ CaCtuZ123 (sweden).
thank you for your advice. Did they (Anovo Nordic who is responsible for HTC in sweden) your phone or they just fixed it?
Coz last time, I sent it to them (service center) and they just fixed it. Now I am afraid to send it, maybe they will just fix it and I will get trouble again.

they(samsung guys) can not/won't look at your phone bootloader. So relax & just flash a stock dutch rom without bootloader.
Hi all,
A few days ago I started having multiple issues on mu DHD. Present situation is that camera, SIM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and volume up/down key are not working. However, the microSD card works just fine.I tried factory reset and two RUU ROM's, but no change for the better. I have tried multiple SIM's, but none worked. PDA is working properly. I have seen that many people have similar issues, I just have them all at once I would appreciate any thoughts or advice on the matter.
Also, has anyone managed to resolve issues like these by replacing the main flex cable or any other component?
Thanks for looking and sharing.
Did you get it wet or something?
If your rooted try using ADB to get the phone into recovery and flash a new ROM & see how it goes. If your not rooted and have warranty send it back to HTC or your Carrier for a repair/replacement

Thanks for looking guys. No i didn't get it wet, the problems developed on their own. I didn't root it, I used regular HTC updates. The phone cannot be rooted, as the volume keys don't work. I did flash couple of RUU ROM's, but the situation remains unchanged. The phone is also out of warranty... figures

I don't know what country you're in, but in most places the phone has a two-year warranty... and the DHD isn't two years old yet, so unless you've done anything to void the warranty it should still be valid.
