What Kernel are you guys using on the lastest CM7? - G2 and Desire Z General

How many .35 kernels are available? I'm only aware of Umaro's and the stock CM kernel. I'm trying to achieve better battery life, so what kernel are you guys using?
So far, using Umaro's, I'm getting regular battery life, nothing special. Haven't tried the stock CM kernel.
Are they any other undervolted kernels available?

There aren't any others so far. Umaro's kernel is really good for battery life, however it's not up to date with the latest kanged nightly from yesterday.

Ahh, I see. Thanks for the info.
What cpu settings are you running?

Right now I'm using a kanged nightly with the "stock" cpu settings of 245MHz min and 1024MHz max, but with the interactive governor. With Umaro's kernel I had at 245 min, 1017 max and the Smartass governor. The smartass is pretty good on battery.

u made all the right moves all i would do is dim screen and keep runnimg apps low.
pimped out g2

btw pyromod 2.0 345 ghz min 1405ghz max on smartass. i fully charge bout 1 a day
pimped out g2

Pershoot released his kernel the other day pretty nice and smooth

Alright I'm sleepy so this will be in rambling form but...
I've tried Umaro's and I'm not sure if it was the undervolting (which I haven't looked into tweaking) but my phone kept stuttering no matter which governor I used. I was using Htcclay's Super CM7 1.8 with cpu set to 245/1113
I also used the stock kernel that's been on CM7 with no problems and average to good battery life (10-15 hours of active use: texting, browsing, few calls, and playing the occasional game)
Most recently I've used Pershoots which I had heard worked great. I myself love it. Almost same battery life as stock kernel but everything felt just a little bit smoother performance wise.
Here's a link to Pershoot's thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847672

The stock cm kernel in my opinion is finally good enough that it doesn't need changed. I have always flashed pershoots and occassionally others, but it truly does not need supplemented IMHO.

You're running that on Vision? I can't seem to find it for our device.

Stock CM7 kernel here. I run 245/806 Interactive with automatic brightness. I've found that when wifi is on, keeping the cell radio @ 2G only works wonders. Wifi is set to sleep on screen off, but not when plugged in. 1 day 7 hours on this charge so far with 23% left. I would consider my use light to moderate.

I'm wondering where can I download the Umaro's kernel. I check out his github (https://github.com/umaro/htc-kernel-msm7x30) only to find out that the source is available.

Best battery life kernel on sense rom?

Hey guys, in your opinion what gives the best battery life on a sense ROM like Mikshift? BC's 1.5GHz, 1.8GHZ or X99, Scary Kernel, ect. Just curious what some of your experiences are..

I have been running mikshift since the beta along with bcnice20 oc uv 1.5 kernel with amazing battery life, if I forget my charger I don't even worry the standby time of that set up is just amazing ran for 24 hours on wifi with about 5 hours of using the net, tapatalk and about 75 texts and was at 50% at 24 hours of being unplugged its the only setup ill run, sometimes ill throw the 1.8 on there just to show everyone I can go that high but its never needed. I run at 1516 max 368 min conservative with a screen off profile for 806 max and 368 min no complaints here at all!! Its actually the only setup I'm willing to run!

Go with the x99 kernel without changing any settings. Just flash and leave it alone. Easy 2 days like that

Safe Overclock Speeds?

I've read many threads where people say they have their G2 up around 1.5 and I'm just wondering what is considered a safe OC speed?
Some of the threads say there isn't much noticeable difference after 1.2, can any of you confirm this?
I'm on meXdroid right now and I've been keeping it at 1.2 but it gives me the option of going up to 1.516, so I'm wondering if there's any damage that might be done if I go with the max.

I'm running CM7.1 at a max of 1.4 without any problems. Not sure there is such a thing as completely "safe" when overclocking, but I also read about many who are at 1.5 or higher. I did notice a slight improvement going from 1.2 to 1.4 on my phone, but nothing substantial.
its safe to oc at 1.5 the thing is you wont be gaining a lot of performance but you will be draining more juice
After 1.2 the only thing you get is more battery consuccion.
The safe way is keeping the cpu ondemand or conservative between 245 - 1200.
If you want safe battery you can use setcpu and make 2 profiles one in screen off (powersave 245-368) screen on (ondemand 245-1200).
Note: for miui screen off profile have to be (245-768) because (245-368) cause delay in incoming calls.
And remember always the scale depends what kernel you use.
I using now pershoot 2.6.35.14
Is good with battery life so i recommended to you.
I was using ILWT kernel v1.5.1, is more better on battery life but i notice some problems went i use maps.
I hope that help you

Ive also looked into this quite a bit and most people say around 1200mhz is the sweet spot for battery and speed.
also overclocking depends on kernel
I've ran mine at 1.42 using Unity sense as a daily driver.

The OP is using meXdroidmod which has "tweaKr" script so no need for set CPU and he also has option to adjust voltages and many other tweaks. MeXdroidmod is awesome!
To the OP, just keep it at 1.2 . Like others have mentioned...just wasting juice if any higher.
HTC Vision(G2), meXdroidmod Ghost Chili AIO ROM/ICS CM7 theme.
I have mine at 1.6Ghz set on performance screen on, 368-768 ondemand screen off. I'm a medium/light user and will have around 20-30% left when i plug it in at night.
The amount you can overclock while still maintaining decent battery life really depends on if you're a light/medium/heavy user - because the charge is only being rapidly drained while the screen is on (if you have a sensible screen off profile set up). Light users can afford to run at high speeds on performance govenors, heavy users should run at lower speeds with conservative governors.
As for how safe overclocking is i'm not completely sure what the limits are, but there are people who run their G2's at 2Ghz and get no problems... the biggest danger is probably heat damage to the phone, but the battery will fail before you get to temperatures that will damage the phone so i wouldn't worry about that. The other concern is reducing the life of the cpu, however the longest you will have a phone is around 2 years, and an overclocked cpu will still last far longer than this.
Hope I helped answer your question, I am running Miui btw.

That's incorrect from what I've read the CPU the g2 has is a 800 stock its not underclocked or nothing that's how it came From HTC but its a 2nd Gen snapdragon and their for very recealient and efficient and their for can be overclocked .. and from what I have seen and read this CPU has been overclocked more then any other CPU on a phone ... its bad ass!

Atrix Kernel

Hello,
I'm running Ba2tf CM7 with the stock kernel and I was wondering if faux123's enhanced stock kernel 1.0ghz would be better in terms of battery life? I know that with the stock cm7 kernel you can't undervolt so would faux123's kernel allow me to unvdervolt a bit and still keep the phone at 1Ghz so the battery life would better?
Thanks in advanced.

I use that kernel, and you will get better battery life if you UV a wee bit.
I use this kernel also and am undervolted and get pretty good batt life. Ive tried them all and get the best from the enhanced 1.0 here are my settings

i blve its the third tab over it says voltage
The difference in battery life between the 2 kernels is ever so slight, Faux beating out the CM7 by just a hair
Can anyone point me to where I can find this kernel?
thanks
thanks for yours answers!
I am running the same rom, and when i flash the bootloader, the phone boots and about 10 seconds into it gets very hot and locks up. Any suggestions. Thanks.
Im not an expert but it sounds like your phone does not like the custom kernel.
Is it a refurbished Atrix?
Don't think so, but don't know for sure. Just bought it from stumpyz964. Ill just try another. Thanks.

CPU not idling properly in CM9

I'm currently running turl1's v8 with the kernel that comes with it. I've read about people having this issue with faux'd kernel and that they fixed it by using the one is turl's build. I've attached a pic of the Time in State screen from SetCPU.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
I am using jokersax 0.3.1. Same issue.
do you guys have profiles set?
Only based on temperature. Do you?
I have profiles set when the screen turns off and such.
I still have idle problems, but its masked a little if you underclock to 912. and with hardware acceleration you can hardly notice it.
I I did have the idling problem with previous builds so I switched to turls1's. When the new 0.3.1 came out I switched back. I also changed from setcpu to antutu cpu master pro, and now it idles correctly.
I'm using turl1's V8 Kang with faux123 025 beta kernel (1.0Ghz), and here is my CPU freq for something like a week.
I use a profile for screen off- 216-608.
Now mine looks a lot better. But I didn't change anything..??
I'm not using a profile on mine either. I think I'm going to try faux's kernel and see if it improves any. I think I would get fairly great battery life if I could resolve this issue. I got down to only 84% after moderate screen time and video and music playback today with over 8 hours off of the charger. Most time was spent in 312Mhz with 608Mhz being the next highest and 216Mhz as the third.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
My cpu seems to be working great on turl's v8 with the default kernel. I was getting pretty poor battery life on joker's ROM, but on Turls v8 I'm getting the best I've ever had; stock or not.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
Running Jocker's latest with the latest Faux 1.3GHz kernel.
Idles mostly at 456MHz.
Something wrong there.
After flashing faux's 1Ghz kernel and setting a profile for screen off @216Mhz it has greatly improved. Although it seems any time the screen is on it never hits 216. My battery life didn't seem to get any better either which I find odd.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
another vote for turl fixing batt life.
No idea why some people are so good on faux's but a large proportion have these massive problems.
I switched to turls v8 with the kernel it comes with and now my battery life and cpu usages are great!
told ya, mine looks around the same
tried to feed it back in jokersax forum, not sure if he's picked up on it or not, theres plenty of people saying 'great batt life' but theres enough of us out there who aren't getting that (and whom get decent results with turl). Maybe there are subtle hw differences in certain batches or revisions of the SoC or something like that.

I've never seen my atrix idle like that.
are you sure? Mine idled similar to that in CM7, now CM9 turl build.
In jokersax build (stock kernel) 0.2 I never got below 456Mhz consequently heat and battery died in ~10% an hour increments even if I didn't touch it

Best Battery Life?

I have two HTC EVO 4g phones with CyanogenMod 7.2 RC1 | Tiamat_Evo-v4.1.0-sbc (CPU governor: Smartassv2 245/1152). They are also running SuperCharger v6 script for memory optimization. What I'm looking for is optimal battery life, stability, and not very much focus on performance. Already searched Google for awhile and the answers were never clear and led me nowhere.
Bump. Also need a mod to move this to Q&A.
Well you might as well underclock; no need to be over a 1152. Additionally, play with undervolting to see how much the evo can take. Keep the radios off when not needed.
I'll do some underclocking, but undervolting seems kind of sketchy. The kernels are already undervolted.
+1 for undervolting and tiamats kernels are not undervolted by default so go go vipermod lol
what kind of battery life are you getting now?
IncrediControl or vipermod? I don't know what kind of battery life I'm getting since its my parents phones. I'll try undervolting out, but just want to know if the app is safer or the script. Your only supposed to go like -50 under for both right?

Ok thanks man, yeah I ended up using vipermod -50 and underclocked the phone smartassv2 - 128/652. Working out great so far.
I'm a super heavy user and have tried all the big name roms, but none of them gave me the great combined total of speed and battery life, I get bewtween 15+ hrs other roms I got normally 6-10 nitrous Rom with underworld kernal and uv'd via vipermod using extreme mod, and still runs fast and I'm oc'd to 1.03
This is a picture of what I consider normal use, heavy I consider screen on all day, normal is like 3 hrs of Pandora text here and there played games probably for about an hour total, phone calls, surfing forums, using gps results:
