odd sms behaviour - Atrix 4G General

anybody else notice that if you try and quote or asterisk something while using some programmes or sms that it will end up next to the preceeding letter or number? try typing "test" on your atrix in an sms and see if the quote moves to the previous digit...

+1 Mine does that as well sometime. Its not just quotation marks.

Message History Screen

Hey guys ..I just noticed that there is a History of all my texts and there is no way to delete or clear this. Im not talking about the regular text message screen Im talking about the "history" screen.
Does anyone know how to remove this information?

Shot! Never even saw that screen but thanks for the heads up! I too would love a fix for this!!

Wtf is this?
There has to be a way to delete this
Thanks for the heads up

None. At all. At least none i can see. I use launcher pro so i just hid my contacts but that still doesn't take care of the fact that its there. If you delete the contact then add it again it works but that a TON of trouble!
Please, if anyone knows anyway at all to get rid of this, even the entire screen as opposed to just the info, lemme know! What a PITA.

Quick google search on this and apparently motorola and verizon are swamped with complaints about not being able to delete the history. Supposedly will be addressed with a software update? No ETA though...

I think I remember reading that Google got some bad press over this .. another one of those Privacy Faux Pas' like Buzz.
Not sure if there is a way to clear it ... I took a quick look and didn't see anything obvious.
holy! watch what you say and send to others... lol
Bump to keep this at the top. Would love a fix!
I have figured out that if the contact isn't linked then it doesn't seem to show up...... could be totally wrong tho.

So at some point wont this be a massive amount of information stored on the phone?
I think it's only for a certain period of time or a certain number of contacts.

I think moto is aware of this issue and it'll be patched up on the next ota update.

I doubt the memory footprint is significant. There are a number of system information apps/gadgets that will show you how much free storage you have, or just check it out in the settings.
The bigger concern is for privacy issues. IMHO
I agree about privacy. How are u supposed to have a girlfriend and then other girls on the side with this? Come on moto think about us unfaithful lying cheaters out here!!!how am i supposed to keep my girlfriend from knowin about all my infidelities? Lol. As the heartbreak kid i must have privacy!!!
Edit:for those who don't know this is a sarcastic statement. Haha

Unreceived text messages

I currently have CM6 A013 flashed and at last check I have used1976 text messages since my last bill. But there's no way I have that many sent and received messages. Even the app does not show me having all of them. Is it possible that they never get registered on my phone?

SMS Issue

My apologies if this has been discussed but I can't figure out how to search from the app...
SMS...I believe its a 2.2 bug since my Epic is doing the same thing on the leaked 2.2 I've got on that. But the sms messages get thrown out of order when I'm in a constant conversation. If the response comes within a minute of my original sent text it will be placed above my initial text. My Epic didn't do it on 2.1 but on 2.2 both my Shift and Epic are doing it
I'm only focused on my Shift though. If anyone else experiencing this and if so is there a fix? Using a third party sms app seems to fix it but I would prefer to stick with the stock sms app. It serves me fairly well.
I'm running stock with no optimizations or enhancements. Just out of the box software.

I started noticing the same thing going on with convos on my EVO shift 4G. But I noticed it only does it if I keep the convo open and don't back out of it back to home screen. If they do come in out of order I noticed it gets corrected after I exit the messaging app and go back in. Hope that gives more insite and let me know if yours does the same thing.
On a side note....anyone leaving convos open and if another text comes in the phone not making a sound?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Mine are out of order regardless. Doesn't matter if I'm in or out of the app and it doesn't correct itself. I probably wouldn't mind as much if it at least did that lol.

I haven't experienced this issue with Handcent. At least I haven't noticed it yet.

My evo did it and my shift does it. Not only are they out of order, the time stamps are all freaking wrong... look at the timestamps and you may notice that the texts you receive are coming from a time in the future.

I've installed SMSFix from the marketplace and it works well for resolving this condition.
are you roaming? In a low-service area? Sending to or receiving from a blackberry?
Those three items caused problems for me on the stock messaging app. I've switched to handcent and haven't had any problems with messages out of order.

It does this on Eclair too. I know cause my epic is on eclair. It receives the message and tells you its from 5 hours later than the time it actually is.

If I leave a conversation open and lock my phone it doesn't make a noise when a new one comes in. This has resulted in me missing texts at the time they were received. Also, if I slide my keyboard open before the conversation is fully loaded, it doesn't automatically place you at the text entry box, and if you start typing it does it in all caps. Sometimes my phone randomly decides to start scrolling up while I'm typing. That's annoying. Also sometimes it doesn't autocorrect until I tap inside the entry field. Ugh.

Google voice is so slow

Ok, I'm finally making a thread about something that has been irritating the hell out of me. Every time I receive a text from google voice my tablet just freezes. Especially when I have google voice open or the keyboard up and I'm typing something. The keyboard becomes completely unresponsive for about 10 secs. This is extremely annoying because I have to use this damn app to receive texts from my Google number.
I'm just wondering if anybody has the same issue or a slight idea into making the lag better?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I haven't noticed any lag while using Google voice.

GV works fine for me.
However, the one thing about GV that bothers me is that the text messages don't get threaded like the native messaging app. Its more like how blackberry would thread incoming texts back in the day.

Oh Yea, that too! Man that is so annoying. I have like 100 threads but I've only texted 4 different people. And not having batch delete is especially frustrating.

Problem must be situational. I use GV daily, and have not noticed lags.
Just fired it up and sent a test message. Definitely no lag on that one.
+1 on wanting threaded messages and thread delete...

How about if you have Google voice open and as you're typing you receive a message right at that moment? It's when I receive messages that it lags bad.

The issue mentioned occurs when there are too many threads in the inbox. I had this issue as well. I could not send texts consistently as they would just queue forever, and sometimes freeze up my phone. After deleting the threads down to like 150 in Google voice, the issue was resolved. Do this on a computer, as it takes a long time.
it could be your internet connection, for me it works well!

Emojis use 92 characters?

Has anyone had the issue with emojis using 92 characters in a text? It makes one short text break into two.
If I add more than one, the extras only use two characters, but the first one always uses 92.
Is there any way to fix this?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
I don't have an answer for you, but what's the big deal about it splitting texts? Most people have smart phones these days, so it doesn't matter if it's 160 characters or 1,600 characters, it will appear all as one for both parties.
It doesnt appear as one from those whom I've talked to, but i just find it to be annoying.
