Hello, I'm an Italian user who is following you for quite some time.
Thread reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931857
I wonder if my GALAXY TAB ROM can mount this is a European terminals (GT-P1000) and now features the GINGERBREAD (ROM and private).
I downloaded the package. rar in the first message and the program Heimdall, but I'm afraid to proceed. In the package. rar files are released as follows:
boot.bin, cache.ext4, dbdata.ext4, factoryfs.ext4, gt-p1000_mr.pit, redame, sbl.bin, zImage.
The CM7 ROM is not there, where should I download it? Once you download and install from recovery? we must always do the full wipe? Heimdall should be included in all those files and installed at the same time?
Sorry for my English, I used a translator. I await your response extending my greetings.

The files you extracted contain the ROM and the kernel. You can also download the CWM flashable zip from the thread in the development forum.

So I can proceed without too much fear?
Just put all the extracted files from the zip in Heimdall for installation? What kind of modem I use? My TAB European warranty. Thanks again.
From the package. rar extracting these files: boot.bin, cache.ext4, dbdata.ext4, factoryfs.ext4, gt-p1000_mr.pit, redame, sbl.bin, zImage, but where do they go? boot.bin example? cache.ext4? sbl.bin? I just can not figure out where I enter. The rest I put them in camps right .. I think. : P
Offtopic question:
Is there an easy way to install the Samsung's Gingerbread Internet browser to CM7? CM7 is very cool rom but browser lags compared to Samsung's original...
Thanks.

Quick Glossary & Lingo
adb: Android Debug Bridge, a versatile tool lets you manage the state of an emulator instance or Android-powered device
Baseband: In communications and signal processing, the baseband describes signals and systems whose range of the frequencies measured from close to 0 hertz to a cut-off frequency, a maximum bandwidth or highest signal frequency; it is sometimes used to describe frequencies starting close to zero
Boot Loop: simply means something is preventing the phone from completing it's boot cycle and is stuck between the boot animation and the unlock screen, creating a looped animation. This is often fixed by either reloading a Nandroid, or Reflashing a rom from recovery
Brick or Bricked: Jargon for a completely unrecoverable device, (no more than a brick or paperweight)
Bug or Software Bug: an Error or flaw in software that produces a failure or unexpected/unwanted result. Typically created from incorrect code, this is why some ROMs are better and smoother running than others because certain developers have taken the time to input "perfect" code
Busybox: BusyBox is a single multicall binary that packages the functionality of most widely used standard Unix tools, BusyBox provides a fairly complete environment for any small or embedded system.
ClockworkMod: A recovery program that is often used to apply updates, ROMs, or create a back up or restore a backup file
De-odex: Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace files (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.
Dev. or Developer: An individual that creates, or alters a file in such a manner as to advance the program
Flash or Flash Memory: a program technology that can be electrically erased and reprogrammed
Kernel: The governor of the CPU usage and Battery output, one can upload certain Kernels to achieve greater performance speed of their device at the cost of some battery life
Nandroid or Nandroid Backup: A file typically created in the custom recovery program, such as clockworkmod, that is a carbon copy of whatever state your phone is in before a drastic change is made. the file then can be moved onto or off of the SD card for later use in case something should go wrong in the ROM or Update, or a Boot Loop occurs
OS: Operating system, I.E. Windows Vista or MAC or ANDROID
Overclocking: Speeding up the CPU past the factory presets to achieve a faster and more responsive device
ROM: Read Only Memory, a program used to make changes to anything from the look of the home screen, to icons to custom boot animation
Root: Common word associated with giving a user "super user" access to their phones programming and other various aspects that would normally not be possible, also known as "Jailbroken" for iPhone's
Shell or SSH: secure shell or ssh is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged using a secure channel between two networked devices
Stock: Simply means an unaltered state, such as when you first purchase your phone from Verizon, or when you do a factory reset. Current stock image is Android 2.2 (Froyo)
SU: "Super user", or root permissions
Theme: A set of icons, backgrounds and app trays that change the ascthetics of the overall look of the droid and its applications
Underclocking: Slowing down the CPU mainly to limit battery usage
File types:
.apk or APK's: An .apk file extension denotes an Android Package (APK) file, an .apk file can be opened and inspected using common archive tools
.tar: Similar to a zip file, a tar file archives multiple files into one file
.zip: Zipped file used to archive multiple files into one to save space and allow for single download
.pit: Handle the partitioning of the internal SD

[Q] ROM / KERNEL / STABLE / UNSTABLE combination
Hi all,
Could you please share your opinions regarding the subject?
I would like to find out, and I believe it's a good thing for an open discussion on the following:
What is the most stable (recommended) combination ROM / KERNEL right now (apart from stock FW)?
What are the STABLE / UNSTABLE versions of ROM / KERNEL?
What are the well known bugs in particular ROMs or KERNELs?
Best regards
Savit
Thanks for that list! Well done.
One request and only because there are soo many damn versions of the tab.....do you think it's possible to separate what works with a specific tab? For example, list whatever works under T-MOBILE Tab, SPRINT TAB, VERIZON TAB etc.....most of us (at least I don't) wouldn't know how to separate any of those in terms of what they are called or use, like CDMA or PH1000 or whatever. Thanks!

As awesome as this is! and very nice job b0ricuaguerrero. This should be in the wiki so it can be updated by everyone. That way the responsibility isn't all on b0ricuaguerrero. This way as thing update, the dev can add or update his own.

what ever makes you happy. if you going to be working on the wiki you should make it look better than that. a wiki is suoppose to be comprehensive. you just copied and pasted what i have. i could of done that myself. i think the devs did more than enough by posting their roms in the dev section, and the last thing that i bet they are worrying about is putting it on the wiki. since im no dev im doing my part by keeping this bible updated. link my bible to the wiki not all the links i compiled. i really think you should use the vibrant wiki as reference. imo thats what a wiki should look like.
This tool is for the conversion of meizu's bin formatted rom files to zip. I didn't make the tool, but I can't recall where I got it either.
link
I made the tool. There's a topic on meizume dedicated to it but feel free to discuss it here.
http://d-h.st/users/iSilver
It is quite bloated because of the Qt dlls (couldn't be arsed to recompile the whole beast statically) and that doesn't count the VC 2008 runtime. Oh well.
I have found it is essentially good for converting stock bins to zips, as the other way round won't be helpful for CN devices - a check in the Mz recovery has a special code path for HK devices (based on /proc/uboot_version), which accepts all stuff regardless of whether it's signed updates or not. That's why you could flash anything, prerooted ROM, or even a su package (no need to mess with TPsparky indeed).
OTH, the CN version:
- checks sig of what it flashes (thus only stock updates may be flashed)
- had a (RSA ?) checksum for each partition and thus cannot be written to freely (e.g. mod the recovery image)
- is the reason my next phone won't be a Mz

I suppose I'm lucky to own a HK MX then. Honestly, they make the best phone that I've handled aside from an iPhone (don't get me wrong, I'm just referring to the build quality.) Thanks for the tool!
We need a kernel dev if your up for it as well. Custom recovery would be a lifesaver for this phone. I'll credit you in the thread as well!
How about this:
1/ Extract the contents of an stock recovery_uboot.img
you obtain a recovery-uboot.img-kernel.zImage and recovery-uboot.img-ramdisk.cpio.gz
2/ Flash recovery-uboot.img-kernel.zImage where kernel ("zImage" in update) for normal boot goes
/dev/block/mmcblk0p63/ Flash [(64-byte header)+recovery-uboot.img-ramdisk.cpio.gz] where ramdisk ("ramdisk-uboot.img" in update) for normal boot goes
/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
and try to boot normally. Do you think the recovery that's normally invoked via VolUp+Power would show up?

I made the tool. There's a topic on meizume dedicated to it but feel free to discuss it here.

Hy guys, I've deodexed the latest 14.4.A.0.157 firmware and made a flashable zip for the new 4.4.4 Firmware (using kamome tool).
based on 14.4.A.0.157 Generic uploaded by @Jozinek (download)
note : This is not a whole rom, only a deodex mod to use with stock 4.4.4 Firmware
Why I made it ?
I would try Z3 app but I needed deodexed firmware, so I decided to deodex it
What you need ?
- 4.4.4 firmware 14.4.A.0.157 (link above)
- root access (sony patched kernel so you may follow this to get root and dont forget to thanks @Jamal_RS)
- a recovery installed
- flashable deodex zip from :
* Google Drive (uploading), sorry I have some troubles to upload on my drive...
* Dropbox
* htcfanboys thanks to @sinosuke
* androidfilehost thanks to @sinosuke
for .108 version :
What you need ?
- 4.4.4 firmware .108 (second edition) from august 28 (download)
- root access
- a recovery installed
- flashable deodex zip from Google Drive - Dropbox
Instructions :
- Copy flashable zip to you SD CARD
- Enter Recovery
do not format /system or anything else otherwise you'll need to flash stock rom
- Flash deodexed 4.4.X YYY Z1C.zip file
- Reboot
- Enjoy deodexed firmware and feel free to install mods
Thanks dude... i need this... for same reason... try a new app from Z3...

If you want your mods to work well (most of the time) it needs a deodexed rom, so you will need to wait until somebody make it. Be sure I'll make it as soon I can .
BTW this is just a mod so you will need to update your stock rom before flashing deodex mod
Hope I will help you

I used TWRP (included in dual recovery). Are you sure you've used the latest .108 firmware ?
You may try to download and flash latest sony 108 from here
BTW I'll make deodex for firmware 14.4.A.0.157 very soon, but I'll not be able to test it because my Z1C is in repair...

Well I see that you are going to give Backup folder of your ROM. Can you please make a flashable zip with Aroma and built-in customization? This will make it more user friendly and easy to install. Moreover I'm on 11Gb pit so will this work on my device? I am worried about the same. Please make a flashable zip.
