tested working on Liberty with hboot 1.02
No clip or anything like it required. To be released soon - no date yet.
Thank you for some good news!
Excellent!
Mods - please move - I posted in the wrong section :/
This belongs in General.
No one knows how happy I am at the moment.
Could this work with any hboot to get s-off or is it 1.02 specific?
Signatures are fancy.

Worst case non-att uses a goldcard to update to the AT&T 2.2.2 RUU, then they are good to go. Of course, AT&T models won't need a goldcard.

WEEEE. Will be nice to get back into kernel hacking. I've been too lazy/cheap to S-OFF my aria, and WAAAAAAY too lazy to reflash boot to test kernels. Fastboot, here I come (eventually)
It's too good to be true!
Hope, the release will not be delayed too much.
This is some great news! I've gotten to the point, I check multiple times a day hoping for a solution. Any ideas on how soon it will be released?
Nope. Soon is all the alpharev guys will say. I know for fact they are hard at work preparing it for release.
Well this probably explains what happened to 2.0 They've been busy doing the impossible

Not that I need it, and but this is a new exploit found in 1.02? To get s-off? That webpage is about as much vague as it gets

thank god. I dropped my phone this morning, cracked the screen, and hated the idea of getting a replacement phone with the stock 2.2.
Either this or I'm switching to Sprint. AT&T is really getting on my nerves.
Great news
Good deal!
Sweet!
We drown in four loko
Does this work for original 2.1 bootloaders? Or do we have to accept the update to 2.2 to use this exploit?

Would you ask them to include MID of PB9220000 for Liberty, please? That's the MID of Liberty in Asia (WWE, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Australia). PB9211000 is for US only, I guess.

World Release! Android 2.2 FROYO on the Samsung Galaxy S. Tomorrow 12 o'clock'. AMSTERDAM
twitter.com/SamsungFirmware
At the look of this I suspect that getting 2.2 sent OTA for the Vibrant shouldn't be too far behind.
This is awesome, I heard the vibrant is supposed to get froyo early august. I am impressed with samsung, they are ready stepping up.
Do you think we would still get the update if we rooted the vibrant?

I'm pretty sure read somewhere on the forums that confirmed that even if you root it, you should still receive OTA's. However, might want to find someone that could confirm that. I'm about to go pick up my Vibrant, im so excited!

I don't see why rooting should stop you from getting the update.
If you have done more than just rooting, then I'm assuming you might have trouble getting the OTA update. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.
EDIT: By "more than just rooting", I mean if you have installed a custom bootloader or a custom rom.
Cool beans!

Yeah, but if you install it, you will lose root. There will be a modified rom that's rooted VERY shortly after it is released though (Probably before many get the OTA update).
Wow, that was quick! Glad to see Samsung is following through with their promise and fast.
Hopefully the Vibrant will get a release in early August.
if this also includes a GPS fix, i'll be picking up a vibrant within the next week or two... after i pay AT&T my last payment on that contract. whoo!!
(first time poster, but i've been reading these forums non-stop since the release of the galaxy s phones)

Hope so! though t mobile will want to get their hands on it before we see an OTA, of course once a vibrant/captive compatible version hits the internet, we will see a flash ready in no time.
great news!
lol. saw this thread and looked at my twitter tab and the tweet was there waiting for me.
awesome. too bad this isn't for the vibrant. right? just the international?
Non OTA related
This is not official in any capacity. How is this related to OTA release when feed is hosted by samsung-firmware.webs ?
This is so awesome thanks for the info.

there should be no reason for those who rooted to not recieve an ota update. however, if you flashed a custom kernal/radio then those ota's might've been disabled.
Anyone noticed this?

Dear Friends,
I know we all are eagerly waiting for FROYO update. We all are so eager that as soon as OTA (Over The Air) update is released we would just rush to get it.
But here is a word of caution :::: i have come to know that HTC is planning for an update with a new hboot which would be even more difficult to root.
So it is my personal suggestion to everyone here :: Please do not rush into OTA update of FROYO.
Just hold on for sometime so that developers around here can release the update without hboot so that no one has to again wait for new root or who knows what kind of hboot HTC comes up with may be it will make rooting almost impossible.
Regards
Many thanks for this post; IMO it should be stickied.

Yes my friend i am not imagining this thing and its not a website source its an insider who by mistake leaked me this info .. or you can say i interpreted and concluded his info in this way..
ALSO another big proof is observation :: I hope you know they did the very same thing with Desire Froyo OTA update which has been downloaded by many in Europe..You can search Desire forums may be you will get some info there..i cant link any info as i dont have time to go to forums and check these things.. I am really busy with my GMAT exam preps i just come online to this forum to see if i can help..

As warriorvibhu points out, I think the most compelling argument is the recent OTA push to Desire devices where HBOOT was updated to a much harder version to root (see Paul's twitter feed for a link to the post...)

As far as I have been able to work out (new to all this myself) it's the bootloader and ROM verification system used on HTC phones.
Really great to confirm this in the early august itself.
This thread would have also helped a lot more number of people, if it was active all the time. Also reminds to make proper search. Almost nearing to 5months.....
I'm happy that you are able to say "I told you so" to everyone that updated. Good for you!
Is there any developer out the willing to take on this task?
Is any will to donate to get this development done? I know I do.
Please comment.
Thank you,
Techsican
UPDATE: 4/11/2011
As of my original post, there has been some interest on getting this issue resolved, by donation offerings and a developer has even offered his time on working on this issue for us.
Attn1 has offered his time to try to figure out the rooting issue with the Froyo update from HTC/AT&T due to the hboot lock.
All we need is for someone to offer up their phone with the latest Froyo update so we can send it to attn1 to see if he can get it to root. I see that a couple of you guys have offered their phones already. I will be contacting you guys to see if we can come up with plan on getting attn1 a phone. I might just use my son's phone if he is willing to part with it for a while.
Update 4/14/2011
Attn1 is going to find a work around out of the kindness of his heart and does not want any compensation. This is what I love about the Android community, there is alway someone willing to help out solve problems without asking for anything in return. Attn1, you might not want are money, but please except our Thanks!
Thank again and keep an eye out for updates.

I would be willing to donate. As much as I love my Aria, right now I've had it. AT&T really knows how to take a perfectly great phone and turn it to s#%* with all their crapware.
I just didn't realize I wouldn't be able to go back to being rooted.
You might try buying an Aria with 2.1 so you can root it and sell your 2.2. Should be within a few bucks of even money and you can get ability to root back.

Good idea,hehe!
Buying a new phone would be an excellent idea if it was in the budget.
I guess we all fell for to the old upgrade trap! I was hoping to get this resolved, so I could root and update my son's phone to a cleaner/leaner ROM, like CM7. I have a contract renewal in June, so I guess my son will just have to wait. Oh well! :/
Regrets
Regrets to all that have upgraded to Froyo 2.2 using RUU method. I am confident that with the brain trust of talented developers out there it won't be long before someone finds away to reverse the upgrade. Until then we wait and hope....

For your wife, throw Liberated Aria Froyo on her phone with either the stock kernel (provided in the Liberated Aria Froyo thread) or Gene Poole's hoxnet_004b kernel and call it a day. Liberated Aria Froyo is totally unbranded, meaning no logos and no crapware. Plus it keeps things familiar for her since it uses Sense.
I would be willing to donate aswell. My brother wants to root his phone but updated before he knew any better.

Word on Droid X getting Gingerbread?
Anyone hear anything recently about gingerbread on the droid x...its been rumored for a while now any idea if and when we are supposed to get the update??
I just went around today looking for just that news, and found a few sites over just the past two days.
First, they say VZW has gotten moto's GB build, and that seems to be confirmed over the various sites. Soooo super exciting!
Not so exciting part? The very next day, many of these sites say it was denied, as VZW is wont to do it seems, and we are looking at another 4 weeks or so.
Let's hope for April! I have been waiting to root, but it seems every time I am about to do it, moto comes with the official next version, so I continue waiting!
Ive heard its as far away as 6 weeks but who knows

Sounds like P3Droid got his hands on the final build of GB for the X, D2, and D2G tonight. Also sounds like maybe this weekend/week rollout rumor was correct!
he got his hands on 3.4.2 blur....not gingerbread i am running on my phone right now and if thats all were getting prepare to be disappointed..dont get me wrong there are improvements but not enough to really wow you..everything just runs faster, a couple apps have been edited, and you can have a work, weekend, and home profile kinda like the droid pro..nothing major oh and longer battery life but nothing really excites u that much

Sounds exciting
lol i just bricked my DX thinking about it..time to get my battery charge at VZW..I hope the release is tomorrow, perfect way to end a busy Monday ..
Just curious..in the pictures I see a Froyo kernel, isn't gingerbread suppose to have a more updated kernel? like 2.6.35 or something??
u have to remember this isnt the actual gingerbread its a lkeaed version im sure motorola's final version will have an updated kernal and I really hope they decide to drop the bootlaoder!
lol oh ok... I hope so too..usually these leaks are a sign, never the less it already has a new kernel, but based on 2.2 if I'm correct..
No new bootloader. That would only come from VZW in an official update.zip file.
No root yet for consumer hardware either...we are hoping that getting this out may help find a solution.
i really really want p3droid to release this thing onto TBH!
im here trying to recover my DX via ghetto charging..lol,,dont know if its working..phone still off..anyone kno where i could get some instructions for this?

Yep its an update over kies. Yea it is safe, but someone did suggest they had a problem with frying SDcards. I only read that posted by one person about the telus update. I don't know if it is the case.
Well it will bring your phone to stock, so you will loose things like custom recovery, root, or anything else that normally don't come with stock.
Currently there is a method to gain root again, not as simple as the oneclick method, but not really any more difficult either. Clockworkmod is not available yet, but I doubt it will be long before something is available.
You need to be on stock froyo from telus to update, I disabled lagfix, and unrooted when I done mine. Not sure if both were required, but I did it anyways.
Hope this helps.

Hmm, I might wait a bit then. What I really want is CM anyway so I wouldn't want to hurt my chances/make it harder getting it when/if it comes out.
