Anyone else having this problem? I have a 32gb SD card and i have put over 1,000 songs on to it and only 112 show up in the music player. WTF ?
what format are they? i believe the shift will only play mp3 files. don't think it'll play flac files
I have a lot more than that. All mp3's as previously stated

Cm7 will play flac I believe, but I have 400 songs as mp3's, and they are all there on every rom I've run.

That seems a bit wonky, even for stock. Perhaps clear cache / data on the music app and try again. The Shift's stock Sense rom supports mp3, aac, aac+, eaac+. wma, wav, m4a, amr, and midi. Moving to CM7 will get you flac support.
Think its the 32gb card causing the issue. Just installed an 8gb card and it seems to be taking the mp3's just fine . At over 500 now with no trouble.
Did you add music to your existing collection or was this all at once? I ask bc I have about 35 songs and after I dl one and add it to my collection it doesn't show up. Might need to rebuild the database?

Hey guys I'm having problem with music on my dhd
I'm using Isyncr for mac to put my itunes libary on the sd card but when I open the music about 10 artists work then the rest go under unknown artist and it shows song time as 00.00
I used this app on my old nexus one and it was fine??
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks
try just copying and pasting to the sd card instead of using and intermediary application if it works fine doing it that way then its probably a problem with the program
if they are AAC they might not playback most devices ive owned will not play AAC, AAC seems to be a format mainly supported by apple
Nope no still no luck, i copied over and its still doing it. There deffo mp3 files.. i dont know why its doing it.
Anyone else got any idea?
I have the same problem.
I'm really disappointed with the music player. It's basically a bag of s**t unless ALL your MP3s have the exact correct tags (album, artist, etc).
Most of my MP3s have "Unknown" or "Disk 1" as the album tag. So the music player puts all these into the same "folder".
Does anyone know how I can get the music player to navigate the SD Card correctly and just play a friggin folder??
I'm getting really frustrated with it!
Thanks
My music collection is all currently in iTunes. I have over 100Gb of Apple Lossless music. I thought I could use WinAmp to "reduce" my file sizes as I downsampled and copied music to my Glacier. For some reason the file sizes are not getting reduced as I had anticipated. I can only copy a small portion of my music before seeing the "not enough room" message. Is there an automated way to reduce my file sizes while transfering to the Glacier? Or do I have to create a copy of the files on my pc in a lower bit rate before the copy to the sdcard?
Thanks for any ideas anyone has.

I have the same problem. I downloaded double twist from the market and never looked back. Alot of the songs I like are in playlists so I only copied the playlists of the songs I liked from my iTunes account to myTouch. Try that and see if it works.

Does doubletwist reduce the file sizes (lower bitrate)? Or are you just doing playlists so that it is a subset of your music and therefore able to fit?
I just tried MediaMonkey last night. Took me a little fiddling to get it to see my phone. Once I selected the USB mass storage driver rather than whatever it was defaulting to it worked. I am able to select the artists and or albums and or playlists and it will let me identify the format and bitrate. LOTS of options.
Had to buy the $20 registered version but it really seems slick.

I'm not sure about the lower bitrate. I just use it to copy the playlists to my phone so I can play them through the stereo in my car.

I deleted my music folder and created a new one in my dell streak and then I synced it with itunes and now ant music player wont recognize that I have music on my sd card. Anyway to fix this?

Try rebooting your phone.
I've had the same problem before and it seems the media monitor daemon needs to be kicked up the backside to actually check for new media and update the database.
It does this on bootup so it's usually a good way to go!
If you update your music or other media often you could try one of these apps.
I tried both of those things but still nothing. Does it have to do with itunes or something idk?

what is the location of your music? is it <sdcard_root>\music?
check to see if there's a .nomedia in <sdcard_root> or <sdcard_root>\music.
if there is the music player will ignore any media in that folder or subfolders.
I deleted the original one and created a new one myself and it is mnt/sd/music

might sound crazy, but what format are the music files? If you synced with iTunes it could have sent them at iTunes format and the Streak can't read it maybe? If they were synced as MP3 then that's a moot point obviously, but any suggestion is worth a try!
I don't use iTunes (library is FLAC and I send to => format converter in Winamp with output directory set to SD Card) so I have no idea if Android/Streak can play iTunes M4A or AAC or whatever format they use other than MP3
the mediaserver (what normally plays music for most players) can handle aac+mp4, which is the default format that itunes uses.
If his music is in ALAC then i dont believe the default player can handle that. I dont know if his player uses media server's decoder or it's own custom decoder.
Im trying to use amazon mp3 player or google music

Hi guys,
I transferred all my music on to an microSD card, however half of my songs do not play on the player for some unknown technical reason. I tried using alternative music players, such as Doubletwist and PowerAmp and had the same result. Many of these files are MP3 files and they do not play as they should.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Sound like they were corrupted. Try deleting them (ideally format the card) and re-adding them.
I have 10.4GB of mp3 files on my (crappy)microSD, all play smoothly.

Thanks I tried it, it seems to be working better now. I think the files got corrupted during the transfer.

So, I'm having a rather annoying issue here. I have a very large iTunes library and I bought the 128GB version so I could fit all 35gb of music on my phone without running out of space. The problem is that it shows there is 35gb of audio files in storage but when I open my music player app (currently using shuttle) and select play all songs, it only shows there as being 2,492 songs in the list (thats just a little more than half of the over 4K songs in my music library). So basically I'm missing out on almost half of my music when I go to shuffle and I can't figure out why. There is nothing I can find on the music player forums or on the phone forums for this. Does anyone know why?? Halp

Did you rescan your media library? - This needs to be done for the phone to detect any changes since plugging in via usb
Are all your songs the same format? - This is important if some are different formats the phone may not necessarily pick them up

Interestingly enough, it shows all the songs in Poweramp which I think is weird... They both support the same file types.. I'm wondering if it's some sort of thing that all players have that limits the amount of songs shown in the queue
