Hi,
Everytime my battery goes down 15%, my screen brightness goes to almost 0.
I cant see any setting to change this.
I dont have any app to do that.
Currently rba023 rooted.
Thank you

If there's a way to change it I would like to know as well. It's very hard to see for that last 15%.
Wish I could help.
The last 15% would last no time if it was at normal brightness. It's designed for, you know, if you need to use it in an emergency ;-)
To get your brightness back go to the sound and display setting and click brightness. It returns it to full brightness. When your battery drops to 10% and 5% it will do the same.
As far as I'm aware there isn't a proper solution to this.
My issue with the brightness is the "auto brightness" function seems backwards to me.
E.g. if I am in direct sunlight, auto brightness turns the brightness of the screen way down, which means I can hardly see it. If anything the brightness should be turned UP.
If I am in a dark room, auto brightness turns the brightness up, when really, turning it down would be better as it doesn't need to be as bright in a dark room. So it should be turned DOWN automatically.
It's arse-over-tit, as we say.
Yes,
But now with root, i'm sure anyone with the right knowledge can modify this 'stock setting' ! ...
Anyone to try it?
Cheers!

This doesn't really fix the query but for fast access to adjust the brightness I use an app called QuickSettings which I have on my front screen to give quick access to some basic settings. On the brightness adjuster you have to have the phone settings not on automatically adjust.
I would like to have my screen brightness turned all the way down. This is my 2nd epic (1st one's menu soft key wasn't sensitive like the other soft keys) I go into the settings and set it that way as well as in the browser. I've tried having it setup with and without the power saving mode option selected, but no matter what, the screen brightness always changes to a higher setting on its own. I cycle through the power control widget and dim it back to 0 all the time but it doesn't remember the setting. I also notice that in some apps the brightness is raised i.e. market. What am I doing wrong? My bet is Samsung has an annoying glitch that they need to fix ASAP!

I noticed mine does that too. It will randomly be at a higher brightness setting. Also, the lowest brightness is WAY too bright! 0 on the epic is equivalent to 35 on the EVO.
Maybe when your pulling down the notification bar your sliding across on accident just enough to make it change brightness. Remember the brightness changes in your bar.....
i've got a vibrant but mine's doing same - hasn't done it that often, but does it
i found a small app for screen brightness control that displays the brightness percentage running as part of the icon, - just yesterday it had jumped from 11% to 52% on it's own
have no idea what gremlins are at work here

Coming from WM I was not aware of this gesture. I did notice sometimes when pulling the tray down it would do it. I need to read an android for dummies book and see if there's any other hidden jedi mind tricks that can be done.
I compared my brightness at 0 to an iphone4 all the way down, EVO, G1, Hero, BB Bold, and my former WM phones and the epic is way too bright at 0. I wish there was a way to keep the brightness set to the same setting when the screen dims in some apps, that would be ideal.
Good to see I'm not the only one with this issue and definitely getting a screen brightness icon in the notification panel will be very helpful to track samsung's shiesty shenanigans!
P.S.
The screen brightness increased on its own while typing this message from the xda app....

Yes but sometimes that's too bright, I'd rather have it set all the way down and stay down and raise it as needed on my own.

This is when a custom rom will be handy... no other way to get around it I don't think. I use adw and have my swipe down gesture for notification bar. That way I never have to reach all the way up.

There is a setting under Sound and Display > Display Settings, called Power Saving Mode. I disabled this along with the automatic brightness control and my screen brightness hasn't changed since. Not sure if this is your issue but couldn't hurt to try.......

He did say he have used this setting before.
There's the power saving mode AND there's also the automatic brightness control. Two different settings. I turned both off and I haven't really seen the brightness change since.
Incidentally, disabling the automatic brightness control (in the brightness menu) has greatly improved my battery life.

Fixter, you beat me to it.... We need to find a way to get the phone to stay dim like when the XDA app is searching/refreshing. This would be ideal if that would be the baseline for 0% brightness. I hate how the Eclair browser's brightness 0% is one tick higher than using quick settings to turn the brightness down. Too bad I don't know how to develop, as this would be the first thing I would fix!

I think that it's easy to accidentally change the screen brightness when pulling down the notification bar.
Once I realized that...I haven't had any problem keeping my Vibrant at minimum brightness.

I have figured it out been having the same issue since I got the phone was driving me nutsbut I have noticed two things one if u slide notification bar down a lil then slide left it lowers and right it highers and two sumtimes when sliding the notification bar down I sumtimes slide over light senson snd if hand is oily u produce a smudge over it causing it to lower brightness or higher
I took off the automation for the screen brightness and I manually set it. However, after about a day and a half it changes by itself. I can not figure out what is changing it. I use Dolphin browser...but I don't think that is changing it. Does anyone why the screen brightness is not static?
for web browsing the brightness setting can be different then the phone itself .. idk if thats what u mean but just a little fyi ... since the update however if its set to auto ive found the web browsers brightness is not adjustable

For me it was doing the same thing till I noticed that the drop down curtain at the top of the screen is a manual brightness adjuster as well. If you happen to drop it down just enough to see the date and move your fringer to the right it brightens, if you move it to the left it dims. I found myself pulling it down and accidentally changing it alot until I figured out why. Since then it never changes now that I know to pull the curtain straight down and don't move left or right with it.
Another setting that I noticed would randomly adjust the backlight brightness is Settings -> Sound & Display -> Power Saving Mode. I've disabled this and my backlight no longer changes an I have noticed no difference in power consumption (with it checked or not, the display consumes a lot of power ;-)

This was sooooo frustrating for me until I found that setting and unchecked it. When I turn off auto-brightness, I don't want the brightness changing unless I change it lol.

setting it to auto brightness will
This sounds kind of funny when I had autobrightness and the powersaver automation on the battery would drain faster. When I turned it off the battery lasted longer.
Have you ever accidentally swiped on your notification bar? This will change the brightness and it's supposed to be some shortcut to change the brightness.

Same experience here. The auto-brightness really keeps the screen pretty bright at all times, it just dims it a little bit in dim lighting. If you set it manually, you can keep it dimmer than the auto-brightness will ever dim it.
Has anyone else noticed the in call volume being very loud even when on the lowest setting. Mine is super high, any suggestions to resolve?

Yes, I'm having the same problem. But it don't seems to be a problem every time. Neither seems it to be connected to specific callee's. Sometimes the volume is totaly normal, and sometimes it feels like speaker mode...
Mine is everytime though, it really is too loud even on the lowest setting.

You are lucky, actually. I have exactly opposite problem. My volume of calls is so low that I cant her the other callers. This is very serious issue for me and I am thinking about returning the phone. I am searching the net for some service codes that would allow me to raise the internal volume. Do you have 2.3.1?

[Q] volume & screen
After climbing (for me) a steep learning curve I am very happy with my NS. But as with anything, there are different levels of happiness. I still have two issues that sort of bug me.
1. Volume - It seems that I must accidentally hit it a lot, and at times find it turned all the way down.
2. Screen - It's amazing inside, but when I go outside in this Florida Sun (even in the winter) I not only can't read the screen, I can't find the buttons on the handset.
Any suggestions?
always good to see another florida person.
Can't say anything about the first since i don't own the device yet, a case may help though since my dad has a vibrant and he used to hit them, but after getting a silicone case he dosn't do it anymore.
As far as the seeing the screen goes, depending on your brightness setting the screen may be washed out. I normally keep my nexus one at about 40% brightness, but if i'm going to be outside for a day, or when i'm at the themeparks in orlando, i turn on the auto brightness, that usually brings it up to 100% in the sunlight which makes it readable.
Normally switching the brightness involves going through the settings, but there are many applications that give you a quick switch, i personally use the mysettings app that i have on my main screen so it's only two clicks to get to auto.
The screen is very viewable in the sunny Southern California sunlight, but no modern large screen smartphone like these are going to be great outdoors; at least the NS is usable (unlike the N1).
I concur with the other response that setting the screen brightness to max is obviously the best way to tackle this.
There's a very easy way, just install the Power Control Widget that comes pre-loaded on the phone. It gives you a bar with 5 icons on it for wifi, bluetooth, gps, google sync, and screen brightness.
The screen brightness icon lets you tap it for 4 different settings (minimum, about half max, maximum brightness and automatic). As mentioned above, with max brightness, the phone is very usable, for me in sunlight. At least as usable as my iPhone 4 and older iPhones.
Very handy, and also great for quickly turning off wifi and BT to save juice when not using them.

Yeah i'm suffering with the same problem. I've even swapped the phone but the new one has the same issue.
Has anyone found a fix for this? I really don't want to have to swap the phone again
I really love this new Always On Display (AOD) feature, it's really classy and elegant.
But, one thing I noticed is that the brightness level seems to be automatically adjusted, and when its bright it surely drains the battery.
Is there anyway to set this brightness manually? I tried changing the display brightness in manual mode, but it does not seem to use that settings.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I dont think there is an option, if there is i am also interested.
I personally thought the Display sometimes was too bright.
i..e In a Dark Room and the Light was more ambient than it really needed to be.
Then the misses would ask me to turn off the night light lol!
Always On
Dear All, I just bought my S7 Edge and picked it up yesterday. I'm quite impressed with this display!
I thought the same thing you guys tought... The Always On Display is very bright!
But here is some info that I searched over the internet. Don't know about it's reliability, but seems legit.
New Always On Display
An interesting function that first appeared on the Galaxy Note 4 Edge in 2014 was always keeping a portion of the OLED screen on when the phone is off (in standby), so certain content can be displayed all day and all night long, but with a very small power drain that has very little effect on the battery running time. This is possible on an OLED display with a mostly black background because every sub-pixel is independently powered, so black pixels and sub-pixels don’t use any power.
The new Always On Display mode shows various personalized clock, calendar, status messages, notifications, and images on the main screen when the phone is on standby. It measures the ambient light level and has both day and night modes, plus it’s smart enough to stay off when the phone display is face down, or it senses a dark confined space such as a pocket or handbag. The OLED display produces an illuminated main screen image 24 hours a day so you can always discreetly check it with just a glance. As a result, the OLED Always On Display will reduce the need for a smartwatch, which seems likely to become an endangered species. We’ll cover this in more detail below.
Here is where I picked it up. Cheers Guys!
(Received a message with the information that I can't post url's.. ) sorry...
Type this in google, "always on display s7 edge brightnes" then it is the 3rd link in the url contains displaymate
same, it quite bright, and with my testing if you can keep ut at its lowest brightness, it consumes 0.3%/hr. that would be absolutely great.
there is an app always on display plus which helps in that
if you mark on auto brightness , it will be done
I unmarked Auto Brightness and seems not brights

I've noticed that it is automatically adjusting by the amount of light in the room (and it's quite sensitive, always brighter than needed). It would be great if there was an option to manually set the brightness, but only small bunch of people are actually interested in this.

This app does not changing the actual brightens, seams to be there is no solution yet.
I tried changing the screen brightness to minimum and disabling auto brightness, but the AoD brightness seems to be controlled independently.
Trying out an app called Always On AMOLED - it has a night mode. Gonna test power consumption of both
Mine used to auto adjust but not anymore. I think the last software update changed this.
GS7
I'd love to have an adjustment setting. I'm having the opposite problem as most. Mine isn't bright enough! Oh well. Hope they change that!
AOD brightness fix for Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. May fix others
This may not help everyone as I am giving you the solution for the S9 and S9 Plus, but look in your settings to see if you have the same thing.
Under 'Lock Screen and Security' select AOD and select 'Show Always'. Once you've selected the Content to Show, disable Auto Brightness then move the slider as far right as possible and underneath that select Show Always.
Job done. Next time you see your AOD it'll be full brightness. It is still not bright enough but better than before. If you then go into 'Clock Style' and change the colour after type and choose a fairly stand out colour, this will make your clock stand out even more.
I hope I've helped at least a few people.

i feel like its to bright... i want to dim it. dont need it to be that clear.... i wil continue my search....
Threw search and having both s7 and s9+ I noticed the 9+ has the ability to adjust the brightness of the AOD very easily in settings or double tap the screen and u see the settings. Works perfect on the 9+ as for the s7 doesnt have the same settings they both say the latest version available is downloaded but it's an s7.. so I just think that setting dont exist on the s7. The brightness is controlled on it's own and u really have no control manually on the brightness.. I think it's a new thing for new galaxies but the 7 isnt gonna do it.. eh.. so I suggest a contrast color which makes it "brighter" to the eye. And basic and big.. it's for quick glances anyways... sucks tho..
