I have an HTC EVO 4G shift. My SMS and MMS settings are set to request "delivery reports" as well as "read reports" for each message I send.
However if I send a message and click on "view" it just says "Message Details" Type: Sms message from ####
I already know that much!!
I want to be able to see if message was received and whether or not it was read. Please help!
This is my first Android and I am loving it but need to fix this glitch. This particular feature of seeing if messages have been received/read is important to me.
thank you!!
Don't quote me on this but I read somewhere about this same issue and from what I gathered it depends on the service provider if they have it set up to "ping back" to your phone and vice versa whether or not a message was received... Sprint I don't think has that type of service enabled or don't use it altogether. I believe that's more of a gsm network feature if anything..it just happens to be included in an OS so its as complete and least fragmented than another phone with same OS. I had the same feature on a Windows 6.1/6.5 phone and it didn't do anything either. If anyone has anything to add please do so but that's my understanding. Hope that might explain it to a certain extent.

Details are:
Network: o2 (UK)
Phone: XDA II
ROM: 1.60.00WWE
Radio: 1.10.00
Protocol V: 1337.18
ExtROm V: 1.60.50
I have this really annoying problem with my o2 XDA II, where I cannot reply to SMS messages without a failure.
If I write a SMS from scratch and select the contact from my contacts list it will enter the contact number as "07799123456" and the text will send without any problems.
however if I was to receive a SMS from someone and hit the reply button (like we all do) and send the SMS I get a lovely "Your SMS message could not be sent" and it goes in to drafts. When replying it would eneter the number as "Name" <+447799123456>;
Then if I go in drafts and try to send it will show the same error... and keeps doing it. So I have to CUT the text from the message, do a new message and select the contact again and send it... this was it will send the message.
Why does it do this? and is there a cure for it? Its really, really annoying.
Any help you can give will be appreciated!
thanks!

I have the same problem occationally, for me it looks like th eproblem occurs when replying to a contact which have another operator than mine (Telia).
Message Centre
Hi there,
The problem could be occurring if you receive a message from another network. The issue is with a setting which would say "Reply using same centre". This means that the message you intend to send will go directly to the message centre of the other network. Obviously your message will not go through because you are not on that network! If this setting is disabled on the sender's phone and then you try to reply to his message you would not encounter this problem.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Lakshman
ah right ok... bit annoying though cos I cant tell everyone I know(who has this setting enabled) to do this. There is a paticular contact it happens to and she always has a "Reply Request" enabled (i.e. on my old T-Mobile T610 it would say the user has requested a reply after i read all her messages). Could that be sumin to do with it?
Cant I change a setting on my XDA to send the message via the usual route it goes with it sends a message from scratch? This would work surely?
Thanks for your help, appreciate it!
Thanks,
Steve M
Maybe it's just me with the problem, but when someone text messages me, and I press on the Reply icon, the reply won't go through once I send it. I manually have to go through my phonebook, find the person, and choose to text message them from there.
Anyone else having this problem?
This has happened to me with previous phones, I do not think it is a problem with the Magician...
The problem occurred on my SE P900 because the person who sent the SMS had a setting on their phone "Reply via same Message Centre" in their SMS settings. Seems some phones do not respect this setting (and reply using the default message centre number) meaning the text message is sent sucessfully... however, some phones (the P900 being one) do, and try to reply to the text using the SMS message centre number that the original text was sent via.
Now, this doesn't normally cause a problem, however, if you are on a network which has various message centre numbers (for contract, for pre-pay etc) then this is where the trouble can start.
O2 - UK is one of the offenders. They have a message centre number for contract users, and one for pre-pay users... however, for some unknown reason, they bar you from sending a text message via the other message centre... so, when my friend, with her Nokia 3410, on O2 pre-pay sent me a text, I couldn't reply to it, however, I could go in and make a new one and send it fine.
Ironically, I could reply to texts from other friends on completely different networks no problem, and I could reply to friends on O2 contract no problem!
Well, there's the theory... your situation might not be the exact same...
But anyway... the solution is to inform your friends to find the setting (in SMS settings) on their phone that looks like "Reply via same Message Centre" and set it to NO.
(Also note, Nokia 3410's sometimes do not have this setting available on them! I think the setting is stored on the SIM card, maybe, so you'd probably have to switch the SIM to another phone, change the setting, and switch it back.)
works for me if i delete all but the phone number in the "To" field after i choose "reply"
Hey!
Can you send SMS from your HD2?
I get no error message, but my messages are not sent, I get a warning sign on the right of the message bar. Also, when I long-press it, I have "Retry send" option.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Anyone knows how to fix it?
Same for me. Any ideas?
I can receive sms but cannot reply back
Huh, got it fixed myself
How-to:
1. Settings tab
2. Menu -> More
3. Connections
4. Advanced network
5. Scroll to the last tab (SMS Service)
6. Set it to GPRS Preferred or set it to GSM (it's probably set to GPRS now). If it's already set like that by default and not working, just try to switch it
7. Reboot
I was having a similar problem..
I was on the Tube and I pressed send sms... obviously I had no signal which was fine but when I got above ground I pressed retry and absolutely nothing happened. At all.
Had to reset in the end and delete the message in the outbox and start a fresh. Bloody annoying!!
Hi,
Although this thread is ancient, i see it's still open and named "SMS problems" which is exactly what I'm suffering from.
I just purchased my new HD2 this month and ever since I got it I can't send any SMS. Whenever I try to I get a message saying "unable to send message". I have set my message center number and everything but it still didn't work. I called the HTC help center and they told me I should install the hotfix from the HTC website but when I attempted that, it said it wasn't compatible with my device????
I upgraded my official ROM from 1.66.415.3 to xxxx.4 again using the updates from HTC main site. Again I got the same message.
Up till now I'm still not sure what the problem I have is, and have no clue what the hotfix really does!
Can anyone help me out in babysteps? I'm still new to this.
PS. I did look through the other forums for something similar. It seems everyone's sending texts but to the wrong people, lol.
HELP PLEASE!
Hello!
Do you know of any software for our HD2, that will change the behavior of receiving sms delivery reports?
My Blackberry has an icon, that just changes, if a message has been delivered successfully. Even after 6 month i can see, if a message has been delivered.
I don't like the windows mobile default behavior of creating a "system message" that needs to be marked as unread ans so on.
Who can help me?
Sebastian
SMS delivery reports are a network thing. Call your operator and ask about them being turned off.

This is not exactly what he means.
He means that once the option is enabled, he wants the software to have some sort of icon that will be put next to the message that has been sent once a delivery report comes in. The current situation, however, is that the delivery report will be put into the conversation as a 'new sms' and therefore is less practical.
I am also curious about this, however I don't think this is actually something a program can change for you, as it'd require HTC messaging client modifications. It's just the way Windows Mobile 6.x handles these reports.
Ahhhh I see. I wasn't aware of the icon thingy in the RIM OS (or whatever bberrys run on...)
I was mainly pointing out that windows mobile does not create a system message
"I don't like the windows mobile default behavior of creating a "system message"
and that it is in fact the carrier that generates the message.
Yet another tid bit to add to the hoarde of useless information clogging my brain.

I have the same issue, any hint?
I am interesed for this too
I have also been searching a long time for the same feature as most of the others here.
In my opinion it worked actually much better in WM6 where it just popped up a system message that the SMS had been delivered.
I will be keeping an eye on this thread hoping someone has a good idéa.

You just can turn off sms delivery report without hesitating. If the sms can't be delivered you'll get notification. If there's a silence than it's been delivered. Something like this...

not as simple as that, , , say i send you a txt, and your phone is turned off, , i wont get a failure, because it HAS been delivered to your service center, but you haven't yet received it, , , so relying on NOT getting a failure to tell you its been delivered is useless.
To answer original old question a perfect & very configurable software exists for WM & is called SMS reports eraser.
automatically moves reports so you just get the notification icon & sound if wanted, pretty much blackberry style.
Works perfect & you still have reports for future reference ...

if you r using android go to>message setting>push settings>uncheck receive push msgs
You can change you message setting option.. but i think it is very easy...
i don't seem to be able to get a straight answer to this wap push thing in the net. basically if i disable wap push, does it also disable other thing like sms and messages? i like to stop my telco or others sending me junk messages, but obviously do not want to disable sms and messages. are they related?
what operating system you on on your hd2 .
have you tried getting your provider to block/stop the junk.
oh, sorry, mister b. i found this thread through searching. i don't have a hd2 but a motorola defy running miui rom. it has a setting to allow/disallow push wap and i was wondering if i should disallow it. just trying to understand what this push wap setting does.
edit: in the message advance settings page, under the "allow wap push" line it says "allow receiving and notifying wap push messages (si/sl). my question is if i uncheck this setting would i be missing any genuine messages that might have come from my customers, friends and families?
Should not effect basic sms or mms sending/recieving but I expect turning it off will not eliminate all the junk messages & if that is the case your best bet is call Telco customer services & get them flag you for no junk/spam messaging.
You may try to change it in message settings.
thanks
