3.1 US onto WW TF: No Gmail Widget - Eee Pad Transformer General

I flashed the 3.1 updtate from http://forum.androidcentral.com/asus-eeepad-transformer/88744-transformer-3-1-update-here.html
Using the instructions in post 1
Flashed fine, and working werll with 1 exception: no gmail widget
I have seen other comments o nthe various 3.1 threads about this issue, but thought it better to centralise it so we can find the solution.
I am in the UK, and so this might be down to flashing the US version onto WW hardware.
Any others missing the gmail widget in the same situation?
are any US users missing their gmail widget?

Are you rooted? I'm just getting the exclamation mark when trying to flash my WW TF.

I'm not entirely sure if this'll help, but I've extracted the EmailWidget.apk from the Prime rom in the dev section. I hope that's the correct apk?
Here's the download http://www.mediafire.com/?g9wp49y0glxwf99

Try this: from Curtisbeef
If you lost your Gmail widget do this:
Copy Gmail.apk from /system/app to /sdcard.
Use TitaniumBackup to Uninstall Gmail
Reboot(might be optional)
Copy Gmail.apk from /sdcard to /system/apk
Click Gmail.apk to install it.
You should have the gmail widget now.
I did this:
Renamed Gmail.apk to Gmail.bak, rebooted. Then rename it back to Gmail.apk and clicked install and that worked for me.

I am not rooted, and it flashed ok.
I have just realised that I have no sound following the update
Time to flash back to 3.0.1 I think.

I've an ww transformer and after flashing 3.1 gmail widget still here. I came from modaco hr5 with clockworkmod already installed.

so your TF was rooted, more pieces to the puzzle.

for those without the widget wha version of the gmail app do you have. mine is gone and i have 3.1-124046

i think if we install an older version we can get the widget back

so you really didn't get anything back. you are using the 3.0.1 gmail widget, not the new one. Can we get a working new one? My gmail widget on 3.1 isn't working. Maybe the official ota will work.

Funny this is that I did the unofficial update on my Transformer and I still have the Gmail widget and it's resize able. I have no idea how this is the case but I know a lot of people were stating that it's gone now.

I am in the UK and bought my Transformer from Ebuyer.
I flashed the leaked ROM on Saturday and everything worked fine and the Gmail widget is present and resizable.
At the time I didn't realise that there were different ROMs for different locations. I assume I had a WW ROM originally but I don't know because I didn't check. I now have a US ROM which was the leaked one.
What is the difference between the US & WW ROMs ?
The Asus support website says not to install the wrong one for your machine but I think I have and don't seem to have a problem. Will I get the future US over the air updates from now on due to having the US ROM?
Thanks

To get the gmail widget back you need root.
After that you need to cut and paste the gmail app from /system/app to your internal memory, reboot, and then move it back to system/app and reboot again. You will now have the gmail widget back.

wanted to bump this. I just got the update and my gmail widget is gone, honestly don't want to root, so i'm wondering if anyone else who lost it has figured out a way to get it back.

got the official OTA update for 3.1 and now the tablet has become super smooth

[Q] Why won't my transformer update? Running 3.0.1

Asus support site for firmware updates all specify android 3.1 but I am running 3.0.1
My firmware version is v8.2.3.9 and I would like to update to latest version but the site won't let me. I believe I need this because my keyboard dock stops working after about one minute. Everything I've found says that this is probably a firmware issue and can be fixed by going to v8.4.4.5(US). How do I update my firmware if I'm on 3.0.1 ? When I check for system updates in my Settings it says I am up to date. Shouldn't my system have OTA updated by now? I've had this thing for a week.
yeah, I had this problem too, I just downloaded 3.1 and manually updated it i waited a full day waiting for it to update but it wouldnt
have you tried going into settings and manually checking for an update?
Same with me, OTA didnt happen, so I just downloaded from Asus and moved over on micro sd card
Tried checking for updates. Says i am up to date. Does micro sd card have to be blank?
Nope. Just copy it to root of the card

Thanks! Keyboard problem can be "fixed" by detaching then re-ataching the tablet to the dock. Sometimes have to do this several times an hour so I think it may be hardware related. Have contacted ASUS so will probably wait for response before proceeding further. Thanks, again.
*update*
Got frustrated with ASUS. They never responded to my emails. Returned dock to Best Buy hoping that was the problem. New dock had same problem. Returned tablet for exchange. New tablet + new dock = problem solved. Now running 3.1 and everything is fine. I guess I got a lemon with the first purchase. Thanks to everyone for the advice. Glad problem was solved as I really like my transformer.

I flashed 3.1 OTA (KF3) then tried to update with KIES but no success.
Will update you if I figure out a way

I guess, for some reason 3.1 OTA is an I/O update. So far I/O tab owners haven't received the TW update yet other than that 11 MB update that locked the boot loader. I don't know if there's an 3.1 OTA for the retail version, that can be ODIN to get back the unlocked boot loader and then update the TW. In the mean time, you can install the TW posted by Doc, as I did and wait for the next update for the I/O tab owners, and flash that update when it's available. .
So far everything is working fine, even the Google movies, except for Plex. One of the guy, Darrin at Plex forum said that the fix won't be coming in near future. May be they should share their codes with some dev on xda, and I'm sure the issue would be resolved a week or so.

The one there seems to be from the IO version. Once you flash that one, you get the update for google movies, but not the touchwiz update.
I tried this stock 3.1 several times already but always get the 11mb update. I'm going to return CWM to stock and see if that changes anything.
I'm going to give it another go!

Had the same problem after installingfile called hc ota 3.1 from one of the forums.
I had to restore to my last backup (original 3.1) and then declined 11.2MB update, connected my device to kies and getting update throw it.

Same output. Still getting the 11mb OTA and Kies does not allow updating or even transferring files.
I finally gave the UEKMB+ROOT a try but I deleted the superuser.apk to unroot it
Works perfectly and KIES does say I'm running the latest firmware version and now able to transfer files using it
Hopefully when they release the next firmware I can use OTA.

I'm using UELMB+Root, and I have the movie tab in the market. What you can do is, go to accounts and sync in the settings, remove the account and add it again. Also, clear data for market and videos application. Then open the market app, follow on screen instruction. Then open videos and choose your google account. I guess this should fix it. If not, go to CWM, clear cache and dalvik cache. Then reboot.

Absolutely, and it's brilliant. This kind of thought process is what has me hoping that they've managed to make the current dock compatible with the Prime as well.
Took quite a while to check for updates, and then came back saying no update is available. Servers must be getting hammered.

I'm not sure if anyone's noticed, but the browser seems much faster and responsive loading pages and typing on web pages. Before the lag was atrocious, but it's muuuuuch better now. Pages seem to load more quickly and scroll smoother. Can anyone else confirm?
I am rooted & I was able to download the update. However, the updates does start & the screen shows the file unpacking with the little Android dude. Then the the install fails. There is a triangle with an exclamation mark in the center with the Android dude. I am assuming that this means that the update failed. I am able to reboot thankfully. However how can I install the update?

I can't really speak for other users, but the stock browser is definitely working and responding faster for me. It could have something to do with the wifi being upgraded in this latest firmware or something they fixed with the browser, but it's definitely noticeable on my end since I use the tablet daily to surf the web. Also it used to take forever to type in text boxes on the stock browser and now for me it's almost instant. Also EVERY user experience is different (most likely since May), so ironic or not it's still a good thing for other users to report what they're experiencing with new firmware upgrades.

[UPDATE] CWM flashable ASUS update for ICS -- updated US, TW and WW version

As it says the update for ASUS ICS, but CWM flashable.
*WARNING* If you are rooted, you will need OTA rootkeeper from Market to flash this patch, or flash superuser after rebooting at least once. Currently US and WW ROMs only.
--If someone has an update from another version (CN, etc.) that they want to use, PM me with a link to the file and I can build/edit a script for that too and add it in--
You should be on an odexed stock ROM (rooted of-course) in order for this to work. If you are on a custom ROM, don't bother, it won't work for you. You will need to wait for the dev of your ROM to make a patch or upgrade.
I set this up to only flash the kernal and the patches. Recovery will not be effected. This is confirmed working for me.
The US version -- http://www.mediafire.com/?3aa16qy7sh4t9m4
The WW version -- credit to Lizard -- http://www.mediafire.com/?nw4zgwvl3yug0tw
The TW version -- thanks to wai43 for the files -- http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?cfq6d5lug4q4sd8
I will not be responsible if you brick your tablet. This patch worked fine for me, but may not work for others.

For those like mE that edited thier system.
1. I flashed ics full over my set up to restore it without losing my settings.
2. Root keeper to keep root.
3. Flashed this update.
4. Used root keeper to restore root.

Honestly, I don't know if we can profit from this... lol, but thanks is just fine. I've been dabbling in this crap for years, but I had to go back to the drawing board to get that script to work right. I hope that ASUS has their crap together and don't release a bunch of patches over the next few months, that would suck for all the devs. It is supposed to have some benefits, but I've been playing with this for a few hours and haven't seen anything amazing yet... I'm working on some thing based on this and will release soon.
BTW, for those with random reboot issues, I have yet to have experienced that -- since the original update. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the uneventful update.
I HAVE experienced RR on ICS; will see what happens.
The poll in the other thread does not lead me to believe that this update fixes all the problems that lead to random reboots.
Anyway, thanks.
Btw, I tried to capture the update blob but after I renamed it, it disappeared from the /cache
I was just curious as to what you did to the update to defang it.
Is removing the recovery enough?
Does it also carry a bootloader update which you also have to remove?

I backed up su with OTA RootKeeper then rebooted into CWR. I flashed the zip, rebooted and let the update "optimize [my] apps". Once that was done I was greeted with my usual homescreen. A toast notification informed me WebKey was granted SuperUser permission, as always happens on bootup.
Surprised, I launched SuperUser and saw a corresponding new entry in the log. I double checked my current version of su, which was found to be current. I'm assuming that a "No newer version of su available" means su (and thus root) wasn't removed during the upgrade.
I next launched OTA RootKeeper which oddly reported my TF101 was no longer rooted. Nonetheless I hit RESTORE and root is back: or rather OTA RootKeeper is happy now.

Patch good for Non US Firmware?
I have tried to flash this update but I get an asset failure. Could that be due to the fact that I am running stock WW ICS and not the US version?

that is an assert failure. The update isn't happy due to the ROM you're running. if you aren't on a US ROM, it wont update.

you need to be running a full ROM as stated in the OP.

Thank You
Sharpe thank you for this zip. I have a US B80 and the stupid update would start to install and then after getting about a 1/4 of the way it would freeze on the android with the exclamation point. Your zip solved that problem and so far no reboots or any weirdness. I do have one question about the update though, how do I stop the tablet from trying to take the OTA(it is persistent).
Thanks

new OTA update

Got a an update today for my US tf300. It failed like it always does since I'm root and now I can't redownload or try to install again, like it always does.
So for the ones who get the ota, please upload the file! It should be in /Cache
It will be a few days before a full flash is out.
Want proof? I can show a screenshot but it doesn't say anything besides an update is out. I couldn't get the date in the screenshot. Just take my word for it.
Side note: clearing cache and data for the dm and cm client does not work if an ota fails at install. Stop telling people it does.
i got the update
I have the update installed, I don't see any changes right now. Will advise if anything comes up.
I will try to pull it off of my cache & upload to all.
MK
I also made a post about the ota update today. Unfortunately for you I already installed the update and my cache is empty. Sorry.

update 10.4.2.13... Kept my root as well. I seriously hope it stabilizes the LAGGY JB update.
Update worked and root restored.
Steps taken:
- Unfroze all apps
- Confirmed root backup existed, then temp unrooted.
- Rebooted
- Applied update
- Re-applied root

FYI for others. No need to 'temp unroot'.... Just make sure you have a ota rootkeeper backup for pete's sake.
oh and nullzorz, your avatar is disturbing.

Well, I can report that the new update seems to have fixed the camera issue that had popped after the last update (JellyBean).
Before I couldn't take more than two or so pictures before I got a "messed" up picture or a all green picture. I just took 10 consecutive pictures with no issues.
Can anyone that had LAGGY JB before report what they see and if any of it is fixed? I'll post my results after I have played around with it enough too.
Got the OTA update in România, installed it just fine. I'll see if anything is different (the only thing mentioned was "stability fixes" or something like that). Anyway, Asus moved quickly .
Later edit: Guys, don't forget to do a cold boot after each update.

Not sure what's changed but the bugs I had concerned the HDMI output, are still there. Notification bar gets cut off and sound doesn't work on one of my TVs (works on other tv).
Anyways was able to restore root with RootKeeper and SuperSU easily.
My update instalation failed also. I have rooted my tf300 what can i do?
I got a laying android with a red sign and my tablet restarted and said it failed.

Did you have any frozen/removed apps? Had you modified your build.prop?
Edit: Did the update change the font? It seems slighly off :S

Take a look at the logfile here in /cache/recovery . IT will tell you WHY it failed. You can follow this thread to reapply the OTA manually BUT you will need to find the dlpkgfile matching this update. Someone will post it.... If they haven't already.

Yes, I also received the OTA update, right now. At the first sight, no difference. But using it you will see some improvements, I hope. I'm playing with it just half an hour, but I've noticed at least one change for good: the streaming internet TV works well again. I can see the motion picture in SPB TV app that broadcasted only voice after the first JB update.
But the MyLibrary remained buggy It shows the cover pages of the books, but when I open one, the app closes itself...
By the way, the update must be an incremental one (not full ROM), because it was downloaded very quickly, 1-2 minutes.
Anyway I'm glad that the repair OTA came quite soon! Let's try it heavily to see what changed and what not and gather our experience here!

Finding after JB update
Got the JB update OTA today. I'm on the ww-version, stock, not rooted.
First impression: smooth running - found bug, though. The clock showing in the down right corner is not updating correctly; updates once every 10-15 minutes. System clock is and lock screen clock are OK, so it's a sw issue with this update (at least on mine). It worked as it should before the update. Did a cold boot and factory reset routine, even though the factory reset should not be necessary.
Cheers

The clock issue is actually worse on my tablet than above described: the down right clock and the clock showing when opening the "dialogue box" are showing different times. The down right clock hasn't updated for 1/2 hr now and the clock within the "box" hasn't updated for an hour. To me this is a serious error - have reported it to Asus via their website.
I used to have that clock problem on ICS.
