[Q]Having issues getting back to stock rom from CM7. - Vibrant General

Does anyone have a stock based flashable rom so that I can get back to touchwiz?
All the ones I've tried dont have the right update scripts and I'm not that good with those yet.

Unfortunately you will have to ODIN back to stock JFD. You will need to select repartition in odin also.

Odin is your friend. I've done it half a dozen times now. it's the way to go

And of course you'll have to use Eugene's Froyo That doesn't brick odin first then odin JFD then you'll be good to go. Something with the file system in CM makes it so you have to do all these steps to get back to stock and to be able to use Voodoo again well I had to do it...

just odin back to stock but im not sure if u check off re-partition?? when going back to stock from cm7?

I really don't think that you need to do this. All I did was odin the jfd with repartitions checked plus the pit file.

Anyone that reads this thread in the future, just check the going back to stock link in my signature.
The reference to Eugene's ftdb is only needed in special circumstances.

You should be fine just using ODIN to go back to JFD. You will want to select repartition as well when coming from CM7. You wouldnt need to use the Froyo that does not brick in this circumstance. That would be used say for example if you forgot to disable Voodoo and flashed a non Voodoo ROM over it.

Help needed: New User

I just bought my Epic 4G a few days ago and quickly discovered the existence of rooting and custom ROMS. Needless to say I took the plunge the other day.
I attempted to install the Epic Experience Froyo yesterday but it doesn't seem to load up properly.
Seemed simple enough. I boot into clockwork, I cleared data/factory cache, cache partition, and davnik cache three times each. I installed the ROM from my SD card, install says it's successful, so I hit the reboot.
After this I expect my new rom to load up but all that happens is the samsung logo comes up for about a minute, phone reboots again and goes into the factory Android system recovery utility.
Any ideas? Please help, my phone is inoperable at the moment.

Sounds like kernel. Dl a costume kernel and flash it thru cwm.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I'll have to apologize ahead of time because I'm completely new to rooting.
Which kernel should I use (a link to one with instructions would be helpful), and how do I get it on my SD card if it isn't booting up? (my pc doesn't have an SD card reader)
Did you first use odin to install the DK17 modem and kernel through odin? That might be the step youmissed because if you just flashed straight from stock 2.1 to epic experience you need the updated froyo modem and kernel. Check here if you're still confused.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
So, flash Odin/DK17 and then flash Epic Experience over this?
Ya also did you first do the one click root method to make sure you are definitely rooted? If you press. Volume down + camera button + power when booting and the letters are blue you are NOT rooted. If they are green then you are rooted. Sometimes when you install a rom it might take away your root so you might try doing it in the order of this:
1. Flash back to stock 2.1
2. Do theone click root method
3. Flash DK17 modem through odin
4. Install Epic Exprience

I went straight from 2.1 to 2.2 firmware without using odin or anything of the sort. Will I notice a difference? If so what difference will it make and can I just install DK17 modem and kernel or do I have to revert back to 2.1 first?

Hm that is interesting. When i first made the mistake of going from to a 2.2 rom without upgrading the modem my cell & data service wouldn't work. It kept looping on and off and would not stick. Maybe it depends what rom you went to as maybe some require the modem as mandatory and others do not? I am not sure. But if its working for you, you should just be able to flash the DK17 through odin without going back to 2.1.

Go to settings -> about phone and then check where it says "Baseband version" it should say DK17 in there. If it doesnt follow these instructions to download the files you need. It has step by step directions
http://www.nomie.mobi/how-to-install-dk17-modem-samsung-epic/
I assume this is the rom you flashed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856715
In the first post it has a link to the instructions to properly flash the rom. You can use those instructions to flash the modem and see if it fixes your problem. You might be better off just flashing everything again. It would mean downloading odin and the files to your pc and flashing them to your phone from your pc. The simplest way to do this is follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
Follow the instructions carefully and when your done you have the new modem, the froyo rom, clockwork recovery, and be rooted.
I was at the site earlier but when i click the dl link it takes me to some wordpress and tells me registration is currently not allowed then asks for a username and password
@Raylusk can i do this method even if i am running the 2.2 firmware? Or would i have to revert back to the original is so how do i do it?

You can do it running 2.2. This will wipe your phone and install the new system.

I actually skipped step 2 and everything went fine for me. My laptop was being an asshole and not seeing the phone, so the 1 click root script simply wasn't working.. but then I realized that the DK17 flash via Odin that I got form the epic experience thread included clockworkmod and was pre-rooted and everything so I saw that step as unnecessary.

Eugene's froyo unbricked me! Issues still!

ok so i got some help from you guys on fixing my phone after the VooDoo crash. i flashed Eugene's froyo 2.2 and the phone is ALIVE!! one major problem i am seeing is i have no application storage now! i cannot download any apps, when i go to manage apps i have a ton of weird apps installed and i can't uninstall anything. how can i fix this??
Root explorer
V5 custom vibrant
root explorer? whats this?
An app from the market which gives you access to all the files on the phone and the abort ability top delete them
V5 custom vibrant
hmm, but i have zero storage, i cannot download any apps. i get a message saying i have no storage left
Go to the market and push downloads then delete some of the apps you have already maybe that will give you enough room
V5 custom vibrant
i just fixed the phone and got it running, i have not downloaded any apps.
Did you repartition when you odined also the apps usually go off of your google account sign in to the market and your apps should come up from before what ever you had paid for should be available
V5 custom vibrant
Anyway to post any pix of these strange apps your talking about?
V5 custom vibrant
did not repartition, should i?
oh and no i don't know how to send a screen shot of the applications. but they are only in the manage apps section, i can't see the apps on the phone but they are there in the manage section
Dude have odined back to stock yet are you still on eugenes froyo ?you have go back to 2.1 its a pit file and jfd file you can find then on this site
V5 custom vibrant
yeah i have tried to go back to stock after the froyo flash but i end up with the blank screen after the galaxy S logo. the phone only works with the froyo flash installed.
Did you extract the pit file?
V5 custom vibrant
yeah both the 512 pit and jfd rar files are extracted, should i start over and reflash eugene's froyo? then flash the stock jfd file? if so when should i be repartitioning?
you dont extract the jfd file you were supposed to leave that how it was
ok my bad, the jfd file won't extract. i just realized this.
is it possible that the drivers are bad have you tried flashing another 2.2 rom then flashing back to stock?the only thing i can think of is try odin again click re partition and try to go to stock or try to flash another 2.2 rom then go back to stock if odin is set up correctly im not sure why its not working
another 2.2 rom? i had only heard about the eugene's fix for the voodoo brick that im experiencing. whatever i do i always get a blank screen after flashing unless i flass the froyo (rom?).
i'm going to try flashing eugene's froyo back in it without repartitioning then start odin back up and flash the old vj12 with partition selected and see what that does. i had a file called original from my last brick fix but am not sure what that was.

did you flash the dk28 modem before flashing Viper?
I did.. but I think this is where I went wrong. I wasn't sure how to flash just the DK28 Modem without linking a tar with it. So I flashed the DK28 modem with a 2.1 tar.. How do I flash the DK28 without anything else using ODIN?

Hmm... I'm pretty sure it should have worked either way... as long as you ended up with your baseband version ending with dk28. I'm not at my computer at the moment, but there is a modem tar file that gives you just the dk28 modem, without actually updating you to Froyo.... but I would think you should have been good either way. After Odin, did the phone reboot, and did you have dk28 at the end of your baseband version? Sorry if I can't help more... lol.
I've seen your problem happen before when the dk28 modem flash didnt take. Just do it again. You don't need another tar to flash the modem, just the modem.bin.
So when using ODIN, just select the modem bin and install?
>>You don't need another tar to flash the modem, just the modem.bin.
Why not just flash the dk28 tar?
Clean install; and will allow your GPS to fix
He already has viper rom installed and just needs the modem. If he odined dk28, then he would have to convert to ext4 and install his rom again. If he just flashes the modem, then he can go on his merry way.
Well I just tried flashing the modem again.. Now all I get when I try to power up the phone is the screen comes on with a small icon of a phone with a icon of a computer with a yelllow triangle with an exclamation point inside of it.. This doesn't look good.
Darn Noobs anyways.. Any ideas on what I did, and how I can get it back?

I'm just taking this from the ACS thread here but it looks like you need to use the modem and pit file. There is a big link in the first post.
Their instructions then simply say
1. Download from the first link and use the included files to flash the modem (check only "Auto Reboot" on the left, use the PIT in the "PIT" section and modem.tar in the "PDA" section on the right.)
Hope this helps, if not - please ignore accordingly
Edit: Well I just saw you have a new problem. I think I would just flash with the DK28 Extended tarball found here. This will be a full odin flash, modem and all and you'll have a fresh DK28 that is prerooted and ready to go. Then you'd just need to do install CWM 3 and then flash your ROM of choice. I recommend Midnight, but Viper is popular too.
Thats what I just downloaded and tried to install with Odin. Now I cannot boot into recovery or anything. It just comes up with an icon of a phone and computer on the screen with a yellow triangle in between them. I pulled that battery, put it back in with no luck.

I've seen that screen before.... so it's fixable. I think the key is gonna be if you can still get into download mode, and get Odin to work. I once had to run Odin 10 times til it finally worked. Somw people say to remove your sd card when using Odin... but I don't know if that's the key. Also, are you following the directions as to the buttons on the left, and leaving auto-reboot checked?
Here's a question: what is happening when Odin stops doing what it's doing? Did it run thru the install and say 'pass' at the end? And in the dialog box, did it say (something like) succeed:1 fail:0? At that point the phone should reboot into the new system.

Its odin time now; no other choice. So go ahead and hold 1 and power to boot into download mode and flash the dk28 tar.

I had to do a bunch of things, and don't know what finally made it work for sure but my theory. . .
I was able to get it to boot into clockwork by plugging it into the charger. But even after reseting everything it would still come up with the screen I describe before.
The way I believe I got it back into download mode was to take out the battery, hook it to the USB cable and then hold down the # 1 with the power button. Could of just been a conicendince though.
Anyways... it is fixed and working with ViperRom.

Market not installing apps after CM7 build 3

Not sure if someone can help me out here. I tried this rom and tried to go back to the tw based gingerbread roms. For some reason my market is unable to download and install apps. Not sure why. I reformatted the partitions and came up from di01 to dl09 and then the tw gb. On every level, my market doesn't work, even after flashing a full Di01 system tar. Any takers?
As for using the di01 file to return to stock rfs:
kidserious mentioned this in the waiting room thread:
kidserious said:
Yes, you can't repartition your phone from mtd cm7 to stock rfs with the ED01 tar file. The only Odin files that have the necessary bootloaders to repartition your phone are these: http://www1279.megaupload.com/files...67b58940/CI500_VZW_EB01_FROYO_REL.tar.md5.tar or this one: http://adrynalyne.us/files/stuff/CI500_VZW_DL09_ECLAIR.tar.md5 Use ONLY one of these odin files in conjunction with the 2.2 pit file and re-partition checked in odin. The reason it failed was because there was no repartition and those files couldn't mount your yaffs2
I have been back and forth w/ com
Rom and sfmiuimtd and cm7 both and have had no issues using the full dl09 tar.

This was happening to me with the new gb leak. After going to the market website it told me there was no phone tied to my account. I kinda just waited it out and half an hour later it was back to normal and working.
I had many issues. Just odining for some people will NOT fix it, ev er n using the .pit. I had to use the EXT4 reformat script, then all was awesome again.

Yeah I did the DI01 complete reset after those instructions didn't work. What is the ext4 method? I thought that was just the data partitioning for voodoo?
Does anyone have any ideas?
It's so strange. I installed nameless 4.1 and I can now install apps from the market again. Weird.

Downgrading from Ics 4.0 to 2.2

I'm looking for a guide or some directions to downgrade back to froyo. Do I have to go through the process of odin, or can I just flash a 2.2 rom over my passion ics rom?
You have to Odin, DONNOT just flash it over. If you need additional help, post it here

Ahh..thanks for the tip. Odin back to stock then root, and get 2.2 flashed. On a side note I'm unable to make a backup with rom manager is that common on all ics roms? Its one of the reasons I'm to go back to 2.2.
That's a kernel issue. Try a new kernel and backup should start working again.
Edit: Actually ROM Manager never worked right for me either, but rebooting into CWM recovery and backing up manually had never given me trouble. Try that.

I would strongly advise against using Samsung kies to upgrade to 2.2. If you have gb bootloaders installed its a good way to hard brick your vibe.
odin is the best way,I think
