So we know Gingerbreak won't work with the new 2.3.3 update.
Anyone know if any devs are addressing this for locked bootloader users?
I though gingerbreak had been updated and works on the new update now

Someone was talking about it in one of the threads in development, but maybe i misunderstood :s

Can anyone please confirm this.
Can you link us to that thread?
There's no update in the gingerbreak thread, it's still v1.2 that doesn't work on 2.3.3 nor 2.3.4

Hello,i am trying to Root my phone but i had no success due to the lack of any detailed guide for Rooting with Locked BootLoader.(For play)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
i downloaded everything the OP has said
But the Flashtool is confusing for me,how do i add a new Device with Properties, drivers,Flashtools etc?
@[email protected] i am so confused, the only thing i have done was delete the X10 firmware and replaced it with the Generic UK one.
Help? Will this also delete everything on my phone?
Yes it will delete everything on your phone.
Do you have a verison phone?
Try what this person did. I didn't use the flash tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15043206&postcount=53
There is a rogers specific one but I can't find it. It worked for me and I added a few noob tips to it.
Oh thanks man, but question. How do I "flash"? Can you link/explain in detail please?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Edit : I can't root via gingerbreak... So can't use titanium backup...
l2 xda search
tbh if you can't read or search then you probably shouldn't be flashing your phone.
The fact that you have made 2 threads and also asked the same question in other threads is a bit spammy tbh.
Ay sorry bout that. I thought I'd get more help here.

There are backup apps other than titanium, a lot of them don't need root.

Next time you get a solution, make sure you update your posts. Of course this is easier to do when you don't post the same question in multiple threads..

Do I need to unlock my bootloader to use autoroot?
How I wish this update would be done via OTA..
main reason for me is I don't want to lose root and to I don't want to flash also because restoring 14gb+ of data will be a lot of work for me.. I'm thinking not to use titanium backup instead I will just copy all my sd card files to my PC as a backup file.. But I fear that if i return all my files back to sd card after update some apps/games might not work properly.
autoroot would be a great idea though, but I don't trust the guy who said it.. I think felix is just boosting his post count by lurking around this forum, giving incomplete details, always saying "there is already thread about that", and other non sense post just to boost his post count.. No pun intended felix..
I think many/most people with a locked bootloader are waiting for the ota (myself included). The ota for the arc xloud update came a while after it arrived on Pc Companion/SEUS so i guess it just a waiting game now for when it arrives.

Im not sure myself since i also have the play but i think it was a few weeks. I just noticed a similar discussion on the arc forum (about if they will loose root) and a few weeks later people were getting the update over ota. But like the last update not every country has had the ota update yet only some.
OTA update 4.0.A.2.368 available + remain rooted (arc)
got the update via OTA today! (Philippines)
and i managed to preserve root!
Yey!
I got the ota update last night. UK generic version

Thats how i did it anyway, you dont need unlocked B00TLoader to use FlashTooL so maybe try that?It may not work though and pretty risky too
I read somewhere you don't need unlocked bootloader to use flashtool but if you try to flash custom kernel via flashtool you need an unlocked bootloader....
I tried ota (uk generic) today but after download I get 'could not install software' error.
Hello pals
Well I have a good news
All of you know about the FOTA update problems when your bootloader is unlocked. Well forget about it.
Simple as that, FOTA brick is past.
Now is possible to unlock bootloader and even repair the already unlocked ones to be able to update via FOTA.
So if you have this problem and you want to fix it you know what to do. (Send me a PM)
This process have no cost but if you want to buy me some Dr. Pepper you can donate
DONATE
You will need to download this: Download Me
And also a paperclip or wire will be needed.

OTA update is pointless anyway, most people who have unlocked bootloader know how to use flashtool..
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
I never use OTA of course, but you should see how many people comes to XDA asking for how to unbrick after OTA
Trust me there is a BIG point in this fix

Update!
Users with phones unlocked by omnius/others-tools can NOT use this fix without re-unlock the phone.
I think is caused by different signature certs
How about if you haven't unlocked the bootloader but have rooted? Will a factory reset allow safe updates? Will a factory reset put system apps back the way they should be, even if they've been changed? I changed BBC iPlayer for the one that allows connection to 3g. Will I have to put the original apk back in the system apps folder?

Also you can update by ota with root.

Alejandrissimo,
Since I am a previous customer of your excellent service, is the service upgrade free?
And if so, will the process revert the current ROM to new phone settings?

Just rebooted my R800x running stock rooted 2.3.4 and I got a MobileCare notice that there was a software update for download. I did not download it, but was wondering if anyone else saw this? Anyone know what it is? Did they actually fix 2.3.4???? I am pretty sure it will bomb out if I download it anyway as I have debloated the heck out of the phone and done many other things I'd have to start over.
You could always make a back up and ftf back to 2.3.3 and it should give you the latest update
Then again I have read that Verizon is rolling out an update from mobilecare... but as I dont have that file (debloated the hell out of this phone) but.. who knows. Did a quick search and didnt find anything related to a update....
