Unlocked bootloaders lose access to official firmware updates via SEUS - Xperia Play General

Not going to be news to some who have already done this, but this is still important information to have.
"If you unlock your bootloader you will not be offered SEUS support. This has been confirmed by Sony Ericsson Developer, Karl-Johan Dahlström, who said that part of the problem was not knowing which software release was currently on the phone if the bootloader was unlocked. Dahlström says that the company is investigating ways to get a SE ROM back onto the phone, but there’s no idea on timelines for now."

Of course, if you unlocked your bootloader on the R800i, there is already a custom updated 2.3.3 root-enabled rom available. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098736
No word yet on any custom 2.3.3 roms for other models just yet...

Updating to V2.1 on a locked phone

I am trying to unlock my x10a locked to ATT, I purchased the unlocking code but it seems that mi unlocking code cannot be found on the unlocking server.
They offered me the unlocking software which requires to be running android 2.1.
So the deal is that I don’t know what is the version that the cel is running, I will think is not 2.1, but I don’t know how to tell, so how can I update the cel to android 2.1 on a locked phone.
BTW I don’t have any ATT sim
PLS help!!!
flashtool will probably still work!

Does your lockscreen have and arc you have to swipe or a straight line at the bottom to unlock (like iPhone)?
If you have the arc swipe to leave lockscreen then you're on 1.6.
If you got the straight swipe line, then your on 2.1.
You can check your Android version by going to:
Settings>About Phone
And check what it says in the Firmware version field.
Yes I have the Arc so I'm on 1.6
I can't go to setting I can only do an emergency call.

Ahh yea the AT&T restrictions. Forgot about those, on generic firmwares you can boot up without a SIM in the phone.
Well you just have to flash a generic X10a firmware with FlashTool then.
To be safe get the X10a (2.0.A.0.504) firmware.
Not confirmed this myself, but I think going from 1.6 to 2.1 requires you initially flash 2.0.A.0.504 before any other 2.1 firmware (But I'm really not certain about this, so this is just a safety precaution on my part).
This can all be found in the FlashTool thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Then just flash that and then you'll be ready for your cable unlock.
Is there a matrix of FW releases??

Yea there is a lot, but if you checked my link you would see there is only 3 generic firmwares for each device (X10i & X10a) in the link.
ok arkedk thanks for the help, will download that and check if it helps.
Why flash old 2.0.A.0.504 firmware without dualtouch?
Here's a step by step guide for AT&T X10a users to update to the most recent global generic 2.1.A.0.435 firmware, which has dualtouch and will be certain to get the official 2.3.3 Gingerbread update directly from SE when available.

Told him to flash that because I remember someone long ago said that going from 1.6 to the latest 2.1 could cause problems. But was not certain on that so better safe than sorry. And either way he will be able to get 2.3 on 2.0.A.0.504 just aswell as on 2.1.A.0.435. This was just so he could get the device unlocked in the safest possible way I could recommend. He can always just connect the X10 to SEUS after he has unlocked, and then it will update him to the latest 2.1.A.0.435

On x10unlocked.com it says that I shouldn't have a custom firmware installed.
That's the software the company provided me with.
Please advice
Am i missing something here, but wont pc companion or seus put everyone on the latest official 2.1 version from se with no problems
Then he can unlock easy with flashtool.
Edit
So, download seus or pc companion from se website, instal and follow the instructions. You don't even have to be able to turn the phone on for it to work

Not any kit. If you want the bloatware branded ATT 2.1 firmware that limits data speeds and blocks apps from unknown sources. Also, most branded kits will not be getting the Gingerbread update.
What i seem to think his problem is is that he cant unlock on SETool because he is on 1.6 and that only works with stock 2.1
So he needs 2.1 on his phone which he is struggling with.
So, use official means to upgrade to the official 2.1, unlock using SETool, then use flashtool to root, install recovery and flash any firmware or custom rom he wants.
Why the worry about dual touch drivers etc etc.....once its rooted you can get rid of bloatware, easily flash generic firmware and receive 2.3 update....
I am confused as to why this poses a problem.

Enabling apps from unknown sources isn't as easy as rooting with ATT. Also, data is throttled down to 3G.
You even suggest flashing generic after updating via SEUS or PCC. Why add all these extra steps? This is xda. You can accomplish everything with global generic 2.1.A.0.435 firmware in about 5 minutes with the flash tool.
Well What I did was use Sony Ericsson Update Service, when I connected the phone it told me that there is a newer version so it updated it to firmware version 2.1-update1. So I was able to unlock the phone using multi unlock. Now to get the latest firmware which I understood it is 2.1.A.0.435 with Flash Tool.
Can I go straight from 2.1-update1 to 2.1.A.0.435?
And a last question a generic firmware means that I won’t have all those useless ATT apps on my phone?
Thanks for the help

Yea a generic firmware is one without any branded apps, special setup or limited features.
The latest generic was released for the German generic kits an has build version 2.1.B.0.1. You can find it in my signature.
What do you mean by German generic kits?
I apologize to be a pain but I just getting in the android world.

All Sony Ericsson devices is sold in different regions and has a region specific code. That code determines if your region is eligible for an update (Sony Ericsson rolls out their updates in regions).
Some regions gets updates that others don't get, that's the case with the 2.1.B.0.1, this firmware was only released to the German "kits".
Not a pain at all, we all have to start somewhere
Ok then I will go to 2.1.B.0.1, hopefully I won’t screw up my phone since this is the first time doing this

If you have spend some time in searching the forum, you would have had the answers faster than posting here and waiting for someone to reply.
There is no current direct method root available if you are running Android v2.3.3 and anything beyond .145 firmware.
If you need to flash a rooted firmware, you need to unlock the bootloader. Otherwise you will not be able to flash it. If you still need a rooted firmware, please search the firmware, there are few of them available i guess.
Hope this helps.
And when asked so nicely, i am sure people are rushing to fix it......
I really hope SE would just go that one step further and would just give us a pre-rooted bloatless global .ftf, even if it's unsupported. It'd be nice for us and would increase their reputation on XDA tenfold
I think your chances of winning the lottery are higher than the chances of them releasing a pre-rooted version

I'm not sure, SE is acting pretty awesomely lately, and I even think they might bring is the next Nexus.
If SE makes their Kernel insecure that's good enough
here ya go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203729
thread starter said to:
1. flash a non-rooted 4.0.A.2.368 rom first (which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204302)
2. and then flash the img file he provided.
one thing that the thread starter left vague was proper instructions for the not so techy users so...
that being said, I am therefore unsure if you can flash the img file with a locked bootloader so get someone else to confirm that for everybody
IMG flash only on those phone which have unlock bootloader
but a branded or sim lock phone have locked bootloader and there is no way to unlock them
SE not open it for sim locked phone
thats why i am asking rooted 4.0.A.2.368 global in FTF format

[Q] Generic Firmware problem update

is the newest firmware with xloud ect only for branded phones at the minute.as i have tried updateing phone and it dont seem to get any other update apart from .145.i have unlocked my bootloader and had other roms on phone will this prevent me from getting any other updates from sony ericson.even if i relock the bootloader and apply update from se

manually updating s4 software ?

I'm planning to buy this phone as soon as its available, I am currently using samsung galaxy nexus. The best feature of these phones is that you can easily manually update them to the latest software release officially. lets say google releases 4.2.3, all I have to do is get the update package (zip file), put it in the phone, boot to cmw recovery and flash it.
can this be done in s4? lets say samsung releases an update for the software later on, can i find the update online and manually update my phone or should i wait for the update to reach my country and update it ota ?
thanks
you can do it either way.
1. If you root your phone you can download the latest firmware from this forum and install it by cwm.
2. You can wait for the official update through your carrier and download it that way.
First choice allows you to flash custom roms that remove bloatware.
second choice you will get the bloatware and you will need to spend time removing depending on yoyur preferences.
shouldn't I unlock the bootloader first?
As soon as CWM is available for i9500/i9505, you will be able to flash custom firmwares from the moment developers start uploading their firmwares.

If you are rooting the phone, you are unlocking the bootloader but not necessarily the phone tself.
you need a program like galaxy sim to unlock the phone to use on any carrier.

Q>after Unlocking bootloader and installing TwRP

I'm running latest MIUI ROM global as of this moment . Will this break the OTA updates once I altered the bootloader and recovery?
no it would not.
Unlock bootloader make this device not certified
You should be able to update it .. but you won't be able to update certified apps
I see, thanks for the input guys
waiting for mine to unlock, what twrp version did you use?
this phone is not completely certified and the author of this rveviev believes that his low price is a consequence of non-affirming.
I do not know if this can move the discussion.
