Noticed that many people complain about ROMs bringing battery drain issues, but It's mainly the third party widgets that cause this, for example, I noticed whilst on standby the nice gtabSiMiclock drains around 4% battery life in 6 hours, not big difference, but remember whilst on standby, found that it constantly updates for god knows what reason, where as the HTC clock drains 0% on standby. The circle battery widget and setcpu drains 0% neither. So if everybody can keep an eye out on what apps drain more battery, whether it makes significant or insignificant changes, leave messages down below for others.
Thank you
Tazur Rahman
How did you determine the battery usage for a single app/widget? I'd like to try myself.

I used battery circle and my small brain, usually I have my HTC sense clock on overnight which drains 0% battery, whereas last night, I only slept 6 hours, woke up to find 4% missing thanks to SiMi clock. I wish there was an app that could do this.
Wow, it's easier for me to charge battery every few minutes than to calculate the source of the drainage

You could be right, i'm also complaining but my DHD batterydrain issue even occurs without any widget installed\active.
Use ' Current widget' It can show/log your battery uses. When your playing or when screens off
I seem to be draining about 10% overnight at the moment and that's with an underclocked kernel and setcpu.
My widgets are not updating automatically either so can't see this being the cause. Running leedroid.
Any thoughts?
i uninstalled stuff like visionary, vlingo, and audio guru. audio guru turned out to be the beast. it was draining HUGE amounts of power (400mah+) on standby!! avoid like the plague. now that thats gone im down to 5mah on standby with wifi and 3g on.
Hi everyone,
I've read in the update threads that battery life has improved for most since the update.
However, I feel that my battery is draining much quicker now. I re-did all the changes I made after the update (like removing Timescape widget + disconnecting from FB, switching off auto-sync etc). Didn't make much difference, though.
So, has anyone else experienced this? Also, has someone really checked if the camera bug is gone?
Regards,
cherryfish
Yes, the camera bug is gone. Personally tested that.
As for overall battery life, there's not much difference for me. Maybe just slight improvement in idling current. (idling battery drain is still about 1% or less per hour though... almost same as before update)
But I already have really good battery life before update... so maybe that's why I don't see much difference.
Non-rooted. Unbranded. No task killers.
that's weird, my arc's battery life is way better now, lt lasts 1 day 2 hours minimum.
my gf's been complaining about the battery becoming pretty hopeless....I have repaired, factory reset and uninstalled most apps and no respite...used to give 1 n a half days easily on mod-light usuage...now barely lasts a day...
need to figure it out..ill look more into it when I have time..
I have the same problem, looked good the first day now its ****, i can loose the last 20% in an hour while its just idling, today i was down to 9% after 12 hours, but i did use the speaker to listen to music for like 5 hours. Is there Anyone else that use the speaker alot that can tell me if it uses alot of juice?
Hi, I have got similar situation with u.
I have used titanium to backup and restore the system data and apps.
Is it the problem between old ver 2.3.2 system data and new ver 2.3.3 that caused the battery drain problem?
Battery life has doubled for me. I noticed that a lot of Sonys apps are no longer running in the background after flashiing the o2 2.3.3 over my Rogers rom.
Yep, battery life is way better over here too. I did a reset on it and set the phone up again pretty manually. Did sync my contacts etc. Works very well now.
Have 4 email accounts syncing, facebook and twitter syncing every hour and every 30 mins, do quite a bit web browsing on both 3g and wlan and have had w lan constantly on for quite a few hours now. Screen brightness set on 75%.
And now, after 15 hours and 33 min I have 66% battery left.
Battery life is really great & i am loving it. Those who have problems, i doubt there must be an app (if not more) causing problem. My brother got the battery problem on his Arc (battery drain 100 to 10% in 10 hours with moderate usage).. He uninstalled Handcent & started using Go SMS Pro & battery life is again good
For me, I was on work today... Wifi always on, Facbook auto update every hour, weather every hour, 1 hour 30 minutes music listening with bluetooth headset, 50-60 sms, 5 min phone call, half hour browser, played a game in 15 min.. and after 15 hours battery is till 60%... I am very happy
Waiting for the upgrade since camera makes battery die very soon.
Without camera usage battery performance is really good.
i did not transfer any userdata when i updated so taht cant be the problem, and i have the same apps as on 2.3.2 but i do suspect widgetlocker is eating up battery. I have also read that the wather app snowstorm that i have installed is a big batterydrainer but none of those shows up in my battery usage.
I see that the music player dubletwist is the biggest sinner except the screen but im assuming thats because i used the arc speaker for music at work.
But as you can see from the pictures i have drained the battery twice today, though the second charge was only up to something like 80%. And ive hardly used it after that(3-4 minute long calls and maybe 20 minutes of music using in-ear headphones and 30 min browsing). Something is wrong somewhere

My battery life has definitely improved it now must be about the best I have had on any Android device I have owned.
My battery life has gone from an average of 15 hours to an average of 31 hours with more usage. Im very pleased with the update best smart phone battery life ive ever had now:-D

I really don't know, but after a couple of reboots it seems better now... might be the reason.
Edit: I just installed Battery Monitor Widget and it says I it drains ~200-350mA atm. Wifi and 3G all off.
For me I defintely think the battery life is worse. I only ever use my phone on non-3g, all other connections off and got a nice 2 days easy out of it.
Since the update I would say I get just over a day (not sure if that is still good in other people's eyes) One of the killers seems to be the gallery which I presume is because of the new facebook update which pulls in your facebook pictures onto the phone....
Anyone find as well when you play games the phone gets really really hot i.e shadow guardians HD makes my phone just burn.
Easily upgraded today.
So far with using camera alot batt live is fine
and droping very slow on idle. Great!
Upgraded mine on Saturday and it's defo better on the battery. Wasn't using it at work and it was hardly using any power. Then started messing about with wifi and gps, etc, and it's still got plenty.
Haven't noticed many other differences though!!
Dazza
I have to charge my phone 2 days and battery is now at 54%.
I never had such battery life before even with bloatware apps removed with that usage.
Imagine if i remove them now! (Though i wont since i cant root with gingerbreak anymore, hopefully someone will implement it on the next gingerbreak's update)
Agree with everyone else here.
Battery life has improved with upgrade.
Battery life much better for me 50%

I'm currently on deadly venom v 8.2 on mf3. I only get 2-3hrs screen time w this device. I already greenified all everything connected to Google like maps, services, search, etc. I hate the fact that you even have to do that just to maximize battery life. I don't like turning on and off stuffs like location services, blue tooth, and wifi. I always leave them on. I hate the fact that you need to lower the brightness or readjust the brightness again and again just to increase battery life. That's a no no! I have bad eyes, I use lux dash as my auto brightness. I don't have any background widgets on my phone. My home screen is just filled w apps (no widgets) because they say widgets eat battery. My phone can last the whole day when it's on idle. Battery is 3-4.5% per hour when on idle. It balloons to 15%—25% per hour once I start using it which is very annoying. These are the only apps I use and I always close them all the time. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, viber, Google voice, BBM, Gmail. What can you guys suggest to improve battery life? I don't believe people saying that they last 2 days or even the whole day. That's complete BS. I'll attach a screen shot on from better batter stats when I started making this, I started from 100%
12% in 33mins. Geeeez

If you need a phone with good battery life you should of bought a note 3 or LG g2.

You might want to get a new battery... My phone is running Graviton and I have excellent battery life. I keep power saving mode on, use Greenify, turn off Wifi, GPS, and Mobile Data when NOT needed. Generally I push at least a day and a half out of this stock battery before doing a complete charge. I try my best to not let the battery drain 100%.

If it went from 100 to 12% in 33 minutes you have a bad battery, plain and simple.

Right. Bad battery is very likely. That and should be using better battery stats to get a picture of what's going on.
It's not the phone and naming the ROM as if that has something to do with it is bad form.

What he said. I am stock but rooted and using Juice Defender, Greenify, toggling gps and mobile data off etc, I get full day on high usage and 28 hours on light usage. Must be a bad battery.
Meh, did some math. 12% in 33 min did cross-multiplication for 99% battery used, got 272.25 minuets divided by 60 to get an hourly total. You'll be getting 4.5 hours on screen time.
I don't personally think that's bad. Did some more calculations for Nexus 5 on battery. Heard it's getting about 3.5 hours screen on time, so with that to get your 4.5 hours screen on time the nexus 5 would need about a 2960mah battery.
Well, firstly, you should believe that some people's last 2 days or so; as I've seen photos posted by "battery life enthusiasts" in the better-battery-stats thread and other places showing it's possible. 12% in 33 minutes isn't that bad and is around a stock TW battery expectancy.
You're on MF3.. which means you cannot run an AOSP rom, so almost anything your running isn't going to be extremely lightweight for battery. ALL TW based roms will drain battery more than a single AOSP or GPE rom, as the system is a lot more heavy.
I greenify anything associated with the google-cloud or push-notifications, if I want to know my Facebook updates I can click on the app myself. I have location services turned off because there's ZERO reasons to use it unless I have a need for my GPS. Do you know that MANY apps use your location service even when not running and cause constant wake-locks. I've also moved my Google Services Framework from a system app to a user app with Titanium Backup Pro so I can greenify it and completely disconnect myself from Google if I have no needs for the play store or push-notifications. Gmail and gmaps can still run independently fine without the Framework, the GSF is also a major cause of wake-lock battery drain. Even if you greenify google apps, the GSF is still going to cause numerous wake-locks and affect battery.
I don't have a photo at the moment, since my phone is plugged in all the time anyway (just to keep it topped off), but I've had it run for almost 2 days without charging it; with occasional screen time, gaming, and having it idle. I'm also on a non-TW AOKP rom that's very very lightweight.

Here is my battery so far. As you can see, it barely has been used since yesterday. Screen on time is 25 minutes. Wifi is always on and I weather widget reloads every 4 hours. GPS is off though. Obviously, it lasts slightly less than a day if I use extensively with games, web browsing, email. Considering how much I usually use the phone, it does last 2 days.
Im on MF3 and using Wicked rom with SS.
If you get a new battery....
If you are thinking about getting a new battery and don't mind the extra bulk, go for the 7500mAh Zero Lemon Battery. I got one over a month ago and it will EASILY get 3+ days of battery life. It will add a lot of mass to the phone, but if you are looking for stupid battery life, check it out. Right now I have 26 minutes of screen time and 92% battery life left. It's been off charger for over 8 hours.
Snowdog
Edit: Forgot to mention I'm Full Stock / Full Lock.
I have noticed the standby battery on this phone is AMAZING!... but the screen on time is horrible for me too :S... can barely get 3 hours and that is with like 30% brightness... sigh
people said amoled helps save battery... but i used to have muchhh better battery with my htc one
So these are my stats on very light usage. Very good idle time. Just 2.5 hrs screen time

Battery drain is unbelievable in this firmware. 4 hours and battery is gone. Moderate usage maybe 6 hours. Idle time max 8-9 hours.

Usually the only thing that fixes this kind of stuff for me is reinstalling the whole system. You can do that by using MiFlash or by installing LOS then goig back to stock
According to accubattery the drain is about 1200-1600mah. I get about 500 and peak of 1000 just on this xda app. Mivaor is using alot of current im this firmware. Idle current ie 160-300 idle on mifavor launcher. Stock android launcher is about 120 on idle. Now while typing using stock android laucher xda app uses between 160-600 max. Not even close to 1000. I did clean install and cache partition as always. There is no shortage because it would be constant above 1000 even in idle. But idle should be far less on androidm about 50-100mah max. Ive tested this on several samsung phones. They lose 1% battery health after one whole day on idle. Even with old firmware and old phones in general. This firmware is catastrophic! Therr is no issue with battery or shortage or custom rom or anything else. Zte official nougat b08 is garbage. In 15 min ok maybe 30 min i got from 50% battery to 35%
Firefox is worst in drain over 1600 and Chrome about 1300 on scrolling alone. No rendering no nothing just scrolling without animation, no web font or ads whats so ever. Worst official rom ever. And still no fix for microphone issue/echo
You have a problem. My battery life is fine on B08 even with 2 SIMs.
Mine is atrocious too, but so was in b06

I have only had my S8 for about four months now. Anytime I install Nova launcher on my phone I notice a RAPID battery drain. I let it drain almost all the way down tonight and found the Android system using close to 20% of the batter and the UI using close to 10%. Is this normal for an S8? And is this normal for Nova launcher?
In the app information of nova, mine says 0% of battery used. Plus I get 8 and a half hours screen on time with nova. So nova does not drain any battery from my s8 plus. I've heard that it might even increase battery life compared to TouchWiz.

I have no idea what it could be. Whenever I apply Nova my battery drains much faster. I'm still getting the screen, Android system, and OS being my biggest battery drainers! It sucks because I love Nova but feel like I have to sacrifice battery for the launcher. ?

If you can post a screenshot of your bat statistics
I use nove since day 1 of owning my s8 (6 months) and never experienced battery drain from it. maybe it has to do with something else. it's not normal.
Since the XDA app won't upload a screen shot I'll just write the results. Drained my battery all the way down to 10%.
Battery life:10 hours 11 mins
Usage;
Screen (25%)
Android system (19%)
Android OS (12%)
Google Play services (8%)
Device idle (5%)
Cell standby (5%)
Snapchat (4%)
Twitter (3%)
Everything else was 2% or less.
THIS IS WHILE RUNNING NOVA
what can anyone make of this?

yip something not right, my android system is 6% and Android OS is 2% but I've been using Nova since day 1 and never had any battery (or other) issue with it, been brilliant. go into settings, reset and reset settings, then go to settings, apps, nova and clear data. delete cache to from recovery, then reboot and see if there is any improvement.
Do a reboot. It that doesn't fix it, do a factory reset, perhaps that'll help.
Nova doesn't appear to be the problem from your stats.
