So I notice that an hour on wifi surfing the web took about 20% or more of thE battery...even playing game doesn't do that to the battery. Anyone experiencing similar thing? Anyone with 3g, is data looking the battery too?

I'm running the Moto234_eVo_Carbon_V0.3 build and I've noticed that even with the screen off and the phone idle my battery drains at a pretty good rate when compared to WinMo. Any fixes for this?
for me 3g/h draw much power than wifi, almost 1.5x-2x of the wifi surfing..
Screen brightness is easily the biggest batter drain keep brightness as low as possible,
Data connection will hog more than WiFi if you are in an area of weak signal and your device is constantly searching for a signal, when your at home or work using WiFi just turn data off and switch to only 2g networks, set setcpu to screen off 245 245

Screen brightness definitely hits it hard, then wifi and bluetooth, keep em off whenever you are not using them and of course apps running in the background, grab a task killer, if its not needed, it shouldnt be running or else it will use power.

Get "current widget" from the market to see how much powers are being used. While screen off, my phone only drain about 4~7 mA...

I don't see how the screen is the biggest energy hog. When I leave my phone uncharged untouched over night and it it displays 7mah on current widget, I lose 40% battery in 7 hours.

That's unusual...i lose less than 10% over night...even with bad reception in my room, that didn't kill my battery. Maybe you can try this to test it out. Fully charge before you go to sleep. The next morning, check your battery in setting to see what is using the majority of the battery drain during that period...this might help you find the reason...
If noting else is running, Cell standby will eat the majority of the battery power.

If you are talking about playing Angry Bird 24/7, then I understand you...but if you are serious, I haven't seen heavy battery drain while playing Angry Bird...but whose got time to check the battery stats while smashing them pigss...

You need to reinstall new build and do a task29 and format your SD your battery stats are all over at 7mA you should see 1% per hour

Yes thats true, exactly the same in my HD2: 3-7mA = 1% an hour or less
Wow, I installed Mdeejay_eVo_Sense_v_2.3Revolution to see if this build helped on battery life. I charged my phone over night and had a full battery at 11AM (according to the meter) but by 7:30PM, my phone was completely dead. During this time, I had two 5 minute phone conversations and used GPS for 9 minutes. Other than that, the screen was not active and I didn't have WiFi enabled. Is this typical? Doesn't make running Android very practical on the HD2. This is only the second build I've tried but it's not looking very promising.

Something is wrong with your build. Try his newer build. They got a new kernel. If that were my habits, my battery would drop by only about 25%. You should install "current widget" from the market. It help you keep track of battery usage. On standby, most people and I got about 3~7mA. If you get a higher mA, that mean something is eating your battery.
Please give Mdj's New Build "Froyo Sense Revolution 1.6" that comes with his new kernel which is suppose to make battery last longer. Hope this helps.

i hope this enlightens you and yes wifi kills battery but it is not the biggest battery killer and wifi is more harmful to your battery life if it is not connected which means it is constantly searching for a network which sucks the life out of your battery.
I think the wifi modules on the new kernels (Hastarin > 8 & MDJ) are consuming too much power.
I usually got 5 ~ 8 mA in sleeping mode with my wifi turning on on the previous kernels, but now I got 8~60 mA and the battery status is showing that wifi is taking about 30% of the battery. Maybe this is because the 802.1n is enabled by default!
I can't post in the Development area yet, so I'm posting it here.
2nd day using CyanogenMod 7, and here's my feedback:
- Very stable
- It seems to have solved my Nexus One touchscreen issue. I've tried CM6 and Enomther before, and this was never resolved before.
- The Wifi is stable with no drop (is it because of the new radio in CM7 ??)
- Super duper battery life!! Even way better than Enomther. By noon, usually I'm at 81-85% with very light activities (browsing, reading emails, etc) and nothing running on the background except Corporate Email and a couple GMail accounts sync. Today it's still 89% and this is fabulous. Note that I've set the Wifi to "Never Sleep". The battery life is SIMPLY AMAZING!
- I can't notice speed differences with ENomther.
- I couldn't care less for the animation or eye candies, but the touchscreen keyboard fix, wifi stability, and long battery life are very important. FYI I wiped everything (data, Dalvik Cache, battery stats, rotation, etc)

you should judge your battery on a whole days worth of use. The ~5% difference in a couple hours could easily be made by one app or game being run. I'm getting ~36 hours out of my MIUI setup. Though I block and limit many background syncs.
No doubt CM7 is great, huge step from what many android phones are stuck with out there. ps, CM7 doesn't include a radio.

And it still has the mic-not-working in a call problem, so it's useless if I can't use my phone as a phone.
My N1 has a touchscreen issue since day 1 ... seems to have been fixed in this release.

My gps loses its signal right after it gets a lock. I'm using CoPilot. Anybody having gps issues?

Yeah same experience here. What current draw are you seeubf during idle use? I'm seeing 4-5 mA which is great.
I don't think daily usage is a good way to determine battery life.
Best way is to see how much % drops overnight.
CM6 I was seeing 3-7% overnight, CM7RC4 I am seeing 7-20%.
Haven't had CM7 final long enought to check but first night I lost around 10%.
This is with all data off, 2G only and no services running apart from the basics.

I have GPS, Wifi, 3G all ON. 4 sync accounts (2 MS Exchange, 2 GMail). I have no Facebook sync, however. 3rd day ... still really amazed with the battery life. FWIW, I set the brightness to low (I don't need it that bright anyway) as usual. Same way I usually set it with my 2.2 Enomther ROM and CM6 and stock ROM. Battery life on CM7 is simply AMAAAAAAAAZZZZINGGG or maybe I'm just lucky
GPS locks in seconds, but I haven't done an extensive test with it yet. I'm going to use it (I have both CoPilot and Sygic Aura).
The only weird thing is that ADW Launcher closed and I had to reboot the phone once yesterday to bring it back on ???
Other than that, I'm super duper happy with CM7, especially the battery life

Search for and install "dewonkificator." It has fixed all of my call related problems, along with several others.
I also think that Gingerbread should be given much of credit for the Wifi fixes.
Im finding my battery getting eaten up noticeably faster from CM6 but its worth it for all the fixes/features.

I've been using Kang-o-Rama 1.1, which is based on CM 6. I tried several different kernels and settled on the wildmonk kernel (2.6.35.10 though I'm sure there are newer versions now), because it gave me a similar excellent battery life as others have described here. I had been using various ROMs before that (those that are close to stock, with a few nice features added) and always had pretty bad battery life.
CM 7 therefore isn't necessary if you want stability (e.g. a phone that always works as a phone, no random crashes etc.) and excellent battery life. I'm cautious about CM 7 (and the soon-to-be-released Kang-o-Rama based on CM7) until the "wonkiness" issue is fully addressed - I don't consider having to install the dewonkifier program fully addressing the issue!
I like to have the latest and greatest, but having a potentially unstable phone is really annoying! Just have to be patient. Regardless, Cyanogen and everyone working on custom ROMs must be applauded for their efforts, don't know what I'd do without them

Has anyone noticed a difference in battery performance between the first discharge and subsequent discharge cycles on the later cm7 builds? I've noticed that my phone will drains faster the over longer uptimes. The first discharge cycle after a boot discharges at an average rate of 3% to 5% per hour, averaged over a full day. Use over a full day for me is fairly light with some texting, one or two brief calls, and maybe some web and facebook. The battery is usually over 60% in after 8 or 10 hours on battery on that first discharge. After a full recharge, the drain rate on the next discharge seems higher. I've observed that similar use through a second discharge cycle is typically 5% per hour or more. I sometimes struggle to get more than 10 hours use out of the phone on that second charge.
I have noticed the Status Bar app seems to account for an abnormally large amount of battery use. Where's My Droid Power app reports the Status Bar consistently as the top power consumer on the device. Status Bar's power consumption in that first discharge cycle is usually reported around 10%, but jumps to 30% on subsequent discharge cycles. Other known power hogs consistently consume 5% to 6% according to the app. I don't know how the power monitoring app derives its data, but nothing shows up as strange in the Spare Parts battery history. I'm beginning to wonder whether the "where's my droid power" app's statistics gathering might be being baised somehow. It leads me to question my data.

There is a bug in the status bar process. If you have battery percent enabled in the status bar, when you plug in the charger, the status bar process uses 10-30% CPU for the next hour during charging. If you disable batt percent and charge this does not happen.
I looked at the source code and was gonna try a fix soon.
On previous cyan 6, charging temp disabled the percent. Also this slows things down and home screen scrolling gets super choppy.

I do have battery percentage enabled, so that could explain that. Thanks for the feedback! I could convince myself I tried disabling battery percentage before, but who pays attention to the little things when you're having so much fun?
Oh, and an update on the battery discharge thing. I left my Wifi on full time after my last full charge, and i'm about to roll over 2 days runtime with about 10% left. I haven't seen performance like that since i enabled a Corporate Email account.
Yeah I'm getting superb standby battery life on cyan #39 right now. Idle current draw overnight for 8 hours, with wifi on, is seeing 7 mA current drain steadily.
CyanogenMod 7 not working!
I just upgraded to the new CyanogenMod 7 on my Nexus 1 and unfortunately it is not loading. It gets to the CyanogenMod screen, with the Android guy on the stake board and the arrow going around him, but it just wont go passed that screen. It has never gone passed this screen.
What i have tried:
Taking out the battery and restarting it
letting it run for 30 minutes
If anyone one can help me I would greatly appreciate it

What kernel are you guys using on CM7 for such awesome battery life? I've tried stock for one week, then redstar with minimal improvement.
Reading through threads I see lots of people saying JD and similar apps are good and lots saying they are bad. This is quite confusing for someone who just wants to get good battery life. In my experience I have gone from finding it good to finding it bad. I will try and explain why this occurs so that people are able to decide if it will be worthwhile for them.
First install Battery Monitor Widget and find out what sort of drain your battery is experiencing every hour.
With a stock rooted G2 with data connection on continually (no wifi) I was getting around 80-150 mA which explains why it would not last longer that about 16 hours. Most of this drain seems to occur from data connections. After installing JD or something similar the drain can be reduced to around 50 mA. Which is great, suddenly you get the claimed 1.5 to 2x battery life. JD seems great.
But after you install a good ROM and custom kernal, remove or freeze all the apps that keep using your data connection unnecessarily and install Better Battery stats you observe that JD stops the phone going into a proper deep sleep. If you dump it the drain on the phone drops to very low numbers usually under 20mA sometimes 5mA or even 2mA. This means you use around 1-3% of the battery life of the phone overnight with no changes. Now your phone can last days between charges. Note this is with Data or Wifi connections turned on and Sync active always.
Summary:
On a badly set up phone JD improves battery life (for the lazy)
On a well set up phone JD worsens battery life (takes some time)
Note: I got the best results using Speedmods kernal but I have no reason to think that other kernals could not get similarly low battery drains.
Thanks for sharing your observations. I have juice defender and have had similar findings. The wake locks jd causes play into the aos bug of the phone which is why it can make things worse on a well set up phone (the extra drain from the wake locks outweighs the savings from turning the data connection off when it's not in use). If not for the aos bug it would probably be good in all cases. I had noticed this in my testing and am glad to see I'm not the only one.

If I had seen your post much earlier than I wouldn't have to buy JD. Anyway, I have gone through the hard way, and learnt how to keep my phone organized and minimized rouge apps issue. JD is pretty much useless now.
IMHO, I think Battery monitor widget pro seems to be a much better buy

I do not have a lot of widgets and sync as little as possible. Mail sync is only on demand (when I have time to read it), and Weather is every 6 hour (disabled in night time).
So my battery live is good ½% standby and with normal use it can easily last a full day (no gaming, just Internet, Talk, SMS).
I decided to try JD in order to save even more juice, but JD ended up using more battery than it saved me!
So I can confirm that JD is good for the "lazy user" and bad if your aware of your sync. and how your apps behave.

By 'dump' I just meant uninstall JD. If you uninstall JD your phone will be able to deep sleep properly provided it is set up well and you actually save more battery.

Sure you can do that, but it's not necessary. I leave wifi and 3g on and still have drain of 5mA all night. I wake up and have lost almost no battery. The same applies for when the phone is idle during the day.

I'm using AOKP (4.1.2) and I really love the rom itself, but I got the feeling that my battery is drained more when screen is on than usual.
With screen off I get good battery life - like 0.5 - 1% battery loss per hour with the standard samsung battery.
But when I surf over wifi for like 15 minutes the battery is drained like 10%. (I always use lowest brightness setting)
I know that the screen really eats through the battery, but this still seems rather high, doesn't it?

That could be it - so far all jellybean roms I tested seemed to drain more power with screen on than ics or gb ever did.
And my problem is not related to no deep sleep or something keeping cpu alive - when screen is off everything feels normal.
I have reverted to rocket rom v12 cause that... JB is nice but this battery leak is not acceptable for me. Rr v12 is best solution definitelly.

What I found out so far: auto-rotate on is a battery drainer - with it on system_server constantly stays at like 5-10% cpu usage, android.system.ui also uses more CPU % with auto-rotate on, CONSTANTLY.
I've read this is due to a too short polling interval for the location sensors, if someone knows how to change that please let me know, but I'm also trying myself.
Use BetterBatteryStats, my friend, to check if there's a wakelock with some app.

i am watching this thread, because i also encountered battery drain on JB. thought battery is gone. hence bought a new one. slightly better but still drains a lot. i think the battery drain is because of smart stay. smart stay uses front camera to decide whether you are looking at screen. so when screen is on, front camera is also on and hence the double drain. at least for last four hours, battery drain is in check, after i turned off smart stay. hope this is right and help all of you.
I have the same issue.. Infact I believe this damaged my Battery.. it was working fine until I was on Stock ICS. After I flashed JB LSZ, I noticed heavy battery drain as well as wierd battery status indications..
Just today I noticed that the battery is slightly bulged..
it might just be the wrong time, or something with the ROM..
my phone is just 15 months old now.
Well to be honest my battery life is "ok" - I do get like 1-2 days depending on usage. As I already said, when the phone is in standby mode it drains very few power like it should. (I do have flight mode on almost all the time too, because I don't use it as a phone, just for data when I need it)
But I got this feeling that the battery drains alot faster than I was used to on screen on time since I'm on jellybean. The thing is, that I've checked almost anything, with BetterBatterystats, BatteryMonitor Widget and Powertutor.
The drainers when screen is on are #1 the Screen and #2 Android-System using the CPU. I've already deactivated auto-rotate and the media-scanner, this helped a bit. The only process that's really showing up in System Load is "android.system.ui" at like 2-5% CPU.
Is this jellybean-wide or could this be due to the additional AOKP tweaks?
How can I break it further down to find what really causes the load? (beside Screen taking more energy on JB which would make no sense from a physical viewpoint, the cpu-usage of android.system.ui can only be the other cause of the battery drain right?)

I used CPU spy to see if the phone went to deep sleep during the night and after wake up I saw that from the 7 hours, 4 hours it was in deep sleep and the other 3 hours it stayed at 300 MHz.
Is this normal? The night before I didn't charge the phone and it lost 9% in 7 hours during the night which I think is too much.
My phone isn't rooted so I can't find what is causing this, is there any way? Or any recommendation to fix this? The battery is pretty good but this is still annoying.
BTW I have 3G and WIFI always on, but no BT, no locations, no google search, google+, etc. activated and the Power Management settings doesn't show any drainning app at any time.

For me the battery during idle seems to vary. I have seen it deplete at around 1% an hour or 2-3% for an entire 6-7 hour night. My guess is that it is based on my usage before bed. On some nights i might've used an app that triggered a wakelock and other times not.
I am heavily into homescreen customization (and rooting-however not for this phone yet, without the exploit) and have widgets and animations everywhere. (like the homescreens you would find on mycolorscreen). I also have a good amount of apps. The potential for a wakelock is certainly there. Considering those 2 factors i would say the battery for this phone is extremely solid compared to any devices i've used in the past.
I have also had instances where if i am at a meeting or doing an activity and don't touch my phone for several of hours the battery life stayed at the same percentage or only dropped 1%. So the phone does indeed go into deep sleep.
Overall, i don't think the standby time is bad enough for me to complain or investigate.

Considering those 2 factors i would say the battery for this phone is extremely solid compared to any devices i've used in the past.
I have also had instances where if i am at a meeting or doing an activity and don't touch my phone for several of hours the battery life stayed at the same percentage or only dropped 1%. So the phone does indeed go into deep sleep.
Overall, i don't think the standby time is bad enough for me to complain or investigate.

Yes I see what you are saying, the phone doesn't always behaves the same way.
I just don't like the thought of some app draining my battery for no reason, maybe it's the e-mail account. I can't complain aswell, I got 2 days of battery with 6.45h SOT this weekend I guess that's great, 9% during the night was too much though.

If it was a one time occurrence I wouldn't worry about. If it is 10% every night then I would look into it

I had battery drain of about 4-5% overnight at first, but after going through all the apps and disabling any parasitic menu options (like phone-home data logging), setting Wi-fi to turn off during sleep, disabling app syncing overnight and disabling or uninstalling unwanted apps installed by Sony, I'm down to about 1-2% drain overnight, which is about as good as it gets. And that's without Stamina enabled -- I set that to kick in only when the battery is below 50%.
