Anybody able to try out the new APK they are talking about here?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/26/netflix-updates-android-app-expands-device-support/
And yes I know it works on the GB leak on our phones, but that ROM has absolutely horrible data/radio/wifi issues!
I wonder if it makes a difference to have the new Chainfire3D app installed and the additional plug-ins loaded
Gonna see if I can get it working, once I get home..
Not I. Can't find it in the market app, and going through the website says 'unsupported device'.
I run stock EC05 - no mods at all.
anyone have a copy of the latest version of this app?

also have chainfire installed and tried with all three drivers. Still no luck. Everything works up until I try to watch a video. I hear sound for a cuple of seconds. But its sped up and it goes back to the browser right after
Tapatalkin' it from my Epic 3g
From everything I've read about this on different forums......the only way it'll work with our Hummingbird chipsets is if we're on Gingerbread. This is because Gingerbread uses a different file structure which optimizes video for the Hummingbird processor
Ginberbread was written completely around and optimized to take full potential of the Hummingbird processor!

You may not be having good results with the data due to your modem, try using the EE03 modem with the rom or viceversa, I'm using it and despite a few lags, it works perfectly And Netflix streams great over 3G

The new Sense 2.1 roms have it integrated already. It works suprisingly well. At least well enough to watch a video or something similar.
haha yes it does flash. its useless though alot of times. it also eats cpu and ram and everything so i turn it off when not using for a video. adobe throws bs anyways.
anyone with 2.1 and the internet browser have flash. enjoy

It does not make me stupid to have an opinion. I did read what he said in his post earlier, does that mean everyone besides you will go into his post about his new rom to find out if their hero can utilize flash? Btw we are not in communist russia, take it easy with all the "banning". There's a reason you dont have that type of authority....
Wowee, lots of flaring tempers around these parts...
Anyhow, I, too, followed the same train of thought as the OP. I remember reading that the Hero would not get flash and then was really surprised to see videos loading and even flash ads working. A nice surprise, even if there is a bit of a tradeoff for those god damn flash ads.
Is it just me, maybe I missed something, .. been anxiously awaiting 2.2, flashed it today, what are the pros? No wifi tether, capped fps, no UI enhancements (that I noticed). Anyone wanna tell me they are lovin it, and why? Maybe I was expecting too much.

It's much faster for one and more refined than earlier builds. That last past is much more apparent in aosp builds then with sense. And there is WiFi tether. You just have to use the latest apk. And just an FYI, prepare to ne flamed by someone. This type of post belongs in q&a.

I going to go read your thread and try to get some confirmation of this.
You really really can tell the phone is less sluggish. Video-taking is much improved because of this. The speed of which i can snap photos of funny **** my kids are doing is so important to me. They can be doing funny things for half a second and can't stand any lag.
The signal seems improved to me in my area with the new radio flash. so thats good
The phone is just loads better at what it is supposed to do.

Ya...Try one of the Kernels floatin around to speed things up
I just flashed BakedSnack's rom (Thank you kind sir) and it's scary fast. 47 MFLOPS compared to 7 on 2.1. I just tested the wifi-tethering and it worked seamlessly. I also don't have the FPS capped situation. I'm averaging around 50 at the moment.

+1. im downloading it now to try it on the emulator but id rather see it on my gtab
EDIT: Did i miss understand the reading? Because I don't see the honeycomb sdk "preview" in the android sdk/avd manager
EDIT2: nevermind it's there
What is the link for the Honeycomb sdk?
The Sdk can be found at http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html... follow instructions to install... once you are up and running (1)install the honeycomb packages (at bottom) (2)run a virtual machine with honeycomb as the target (3) rotate head sideways... when creating the AVD I install all hardware and beef up the vm heap size, hw.ram, and sd card and its still really slow... sorry for rick rolling but it really was on clockworkmods twitter
Helloooo World!
I did a HelloWorld application and ran it in the emulator and it worked (slowly )! I am so ready for a gtab rom that will run these apks.
My first experience with Android was running it on the HTC Touch as a fully functioning emulator running from the SD card. Any chance of doing something like that with this?
If you want to rotate the emulator "ctrl f12".
Xoom might be released end of February, so who knows maybe we can get it (Honeycomb) soon. I love this forum and the people driving it.
They usually cut the release at the same time as a device that's launching with it.
(Droid/N1/NS)
I downloaded it and had a play around. It looks really cool, but really, really slow. I know it's because it is prerelease and emulated, but I wonder just how resource hungry it is on an actual tablet? I've seen the clips of the motorola xoom running it, but that is just a tech demo video it runs, not the actual thing, so I am curious about this.
Anyway, looks really good and seem quite intuitive.
Has anyone tried to pull any of the APK's out and see if any of it works with one of our ROM's
I suspect kernel and framework issues would make this unlikely. I might try here shortly, but it's not really something I have a lot of experience with.

The reason that it is slow is not because it's resource hungry, it's because the emulation of ARM devices sucks balls.

The reason it's slow is because it is pre-release. First they implement functions then comes the performance tuning.

Have you loaded a vm with a cut release? Slow as balls.
Exactly, the emulator is slow no matter it being pre-release or release. My quadcore system with lots of ram runs it the same as my dual core low ram system. Heck the virtual Ubuntu box I sometimes run on my bigger system runs it the same.

Ha Ha, I did mention both of these reasons in my post, was just wondering if it would be fast on a tablet, in it's current form... and what they would have to do to it to get it faster.

That is correct, but strangely all the backlighting of the buttons etc worked out of the box, buttons it is easy to fix if you want.
Just a little test for fun nothing else, also saw that there was support for mdpi so theoretically it could be working on Hero with some manual intervention.
Another thing to, boot up without problems

Yes but hardly anything is working! Even the Nexus one has no audio, wifi, bluetooth, calls!
Yes, it is foolish to ask for a ROM that's meant to run on tablets to be made for phones. But I never have never said and never will say no to a new ROM...
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Yes it's going to run like ass and our screens won't do any good either.
But... as always, I'm eager to see what crazy stuff the ROM-people come up with.
but the sdk version includes some feature of switching from tablet to mobile mode by simply changing resolution... they won't have included it if it wasn't meant to be run on mobiles, and in 3.1, mobile (2.x) and tablet (3.0) development lines shall be joined (says wikipedia lol). moreover, lots of people out here said it would be impossible to run 2.2 and 2.3 on hero, and right now i'm looking at my rooted android 2.3 hero which is incredibly smooth and stable (way better than with stock os). so why shouldn't it be possible? ele just said even backlight of the buttons worked out of the box, which was not case in 2.x. i'm still believing in our developers (although i can't code well enough to support them ) and i'm sure they'll do some magic
greets, Summoner
Do you really use wikipedia for truths? Anyone can add to Wiki?!
no i don't... i just think it sounds possible... otherwise, there would be two future development lines which the consequence would be that there were VERY different features depending where more / the better devs work on lol^^
i didn't claim it was the absolute truth, otherwise i wouldn't have explicitly said it came from wiki ...

The new Skype (2) was released today and has support for 4 phones with front facing cameras. I was wondering if it's possible for the Netflix hack to be applied to Skype... in at least a similar fashion? I'm not sure how the netflix hack worked to begin with (APK hack or Build.prop... still a noob to android guts). I'm also wondering if it only works on 2.3 because of the new camera api's...
Anyone else curious/interested? I don't know how to hack it but I am just curious.
I am both, curious and interested...
Sadly, a simple mod on the APK or build.prop won't be enough. That's the reason Qik has a dedicated video app for motorola atrix. It's an API/driver issue.
In android development theres one, check it out :-D(before complaing, its test version guys)

not entirely correct, with Gingerbread (2.3.3+) Google included a standard FFC driver which Moto has stated is compatible with the Atrix and should be used for any further development on GB platforms. on froyo, all carriers had to figure out FFC drivers on their own, but for GB it's standard.

theoretically, yes. since all GB devices will be able to use a common FFC driver, it shouldn't be a problem. of course, nothing ever goes that smoothly or easily...
skype and all would be great, but id be more interested in getting the FFC to actually work... in the unofficial GB (or whatever u wanna call it) release the FFC doesnt work..
