Htc unlocking bootloader for good!! - Desire HD General

LINK
‎"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience,"
- Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

If it true I will thank them and buy their new phone. Money talk more than words.

I think it's quite something. And I know that many people will continue to use HTC only because of unlocked bootloaders.
And even poeple who have no clue what the bootloader is, will hear that HTC is for the customers. This post on the facebook will make a huge marketing job for the HTC, and they deserve it.

The Facebook says "future handsets" I believe. Do you think they would unlock the DHD or is it too late for us ?

Angie,
We've luckily already unlocked it ourselves. It's just whether they will do the newest handsets like the Sensation

I doubt that they will provide a service to S-OFF phones, but the security measures will surely be very easy to go around. I bet they won't unlock current locked devices like Sensation.

I think they will consider it. I don't think it's a big deal to release an RUU to do so

Tbh i think that this is what they wanted, i mean...lock the bootloader > poeple protesting > htc unlocking > people will see how HTC listen to his customers because in no way you can lock the bootloaders and think that most of the people will agree.
And sensation is kinda crap performance wise qualcomm is really bad.

This is amazing marketing by HTC. By locking the bootloaders, they created a huge controversy. Now they're unlocking it, the dev community breathes a sigh of relief - they gain popularity, respect and most importantly sales.
HTC is a company, they're always going to be about the money. What makes them stand out is that they do that through customer care, a trait which every manufacturer should take.

I can get over Sensation but I hope the GSM version of EVO 3D (if ever this will be a reality) will already have an unlocked bootloader.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App

Well this is good news, may well stick will HTC after all
If they listened to people regarding the bootloader maybe they will listen if we ask for better camera optics, lenses etc and phones that can use extended batteries.
I am taking about the high/er end phones here, of course

Great news Does this mean custom roms, etc, will still void your warranty? Are there any 'legitimate' uses of unlocked bootloaders (aside from custom roms)?

Yes I realise that, if one feels capable of downgrading and switching s off, but I don't ... I just want to be able to root as I did before the 2.2 upgrade

The statement does say "future handsets". This is the official HTC statement:

Well ... It is a problem for some people, even with the carefully set out instructions by the lovely people on here, you still have to feel confident. I'm completely fine with rooting, it's the downgrading that I'm not sure about. I've tried it twice and get stuck/scared so I have to stop. Although I appreciate you pointing out twice to me that unlocking is not a problem ;-)

All radio unlocks are either code or hardware based AFAK.
Nothing free.
Just unlocked my tesco mobile (o2) wildfire in the uk.
Used this company as suggested on here - MobileUnlocked.co.uk
Cost me £21.99 but the code arrived within 20mins and all working fine now on my 3 network sim.
I spent 2 hours searching the net for free codes without success - it's much easier to just pay the money, at least they have a money-back guarantee.

I am a little curious why there is tools to unlock desire and desire hd, and wildfire is still impossible?
Is it because it is not as popular? so no one can be asked to develop the tool?
Or something to do with its software design?

Completely different CPU architecture, and lack of interest.
I see, I would think so too.
But I thought the wildfire is pretty popular too, but I guess it isn't compare to desire HD.

Think about it; every member of the Desire family was at one point top of the device kingdom; this would attract enthusiasts and hackers. The Wildfire was released as a budget device; why would someone put in so much effort when they could just get a better device?

Because the device fit better in the pocket.
That is the reason I bought the Wildfire
But I do agree that the Desire is a better device.

It has been talked a lot about donations to make them buy a Wildfire and test. You all could make some deal and donate to support them.
I took the other way and used XTC Clip. Faster.
Even if they don't have a wildfire in their devteam, I'm pretty sure when they get around to it, they will probably, it's not like they couldn't get one.
Just relax, drink a cup of tea and smoke a cigarette and calm down on that topic!

Those guys r really saints..!
But do they develop unrevoked for wildF 2.2.1..????????
AnyWay,

I am waiting.............
I have never seen so much disrespect for other people`s work in my life.
If YOU want it so much, make it yourself, or get an XTC Clip.
If not, stop whining, they will release it when THEY want it, IF they want it.
I think they don't work on it..... I am pretty sure because there are many other phones right now to work on. I didn't want to wait any longer so I bought an xtcclip and it work amazing fast and easy...... but it's a good thing to show respect to the people of unrevoked.... they made good things. So wait long or buy a clip.........

Oh don't be so melodramatic, there is no disrespect its simply a collection of signatures to confirm a healthy need for it, if they decide enough people want the software then they might just make it, a thread like this is simply asking the developers to make it. that is what the forum is for, haven't you noticed?
the logic in your argument suggests that software hacking tools are unnecessary, there in this forum is unnecessary, everyone should just go out and buy expensive hardware, with money they more often then not do not have. whats more not everyone is a software coder. perhaps you think people who require help from those with the know how should just get lost?
your rant here makes no sense.
Asking for help is one thing, whining about it is an entirely different matter.

First of all forgive my naivety. I have just bought a desire z. Could someone tell me the real world benefits of rooting my phone?
Well you can unlock your phone to work with other gsm network. You can load many unique roms like CM7, Sense gingerbread, Miui... Etc.

I previously had an HD2 and spent ages with that, flashing new roms etc. I understood the point of that as WM was a pretty poor OS. However with Android I'm not sure if there is any point in real terms.

Rooting has lots of great benifits. You can flash amazing OS and experience the full developer experience on your device. Wifi Tether for those who want to shoot Wifi from there phone with no charge. Great customization choices when you pick a ROM that allows it. And you can even increase the value of your phone when resale comes up in the future. The root method is a little complicated but it will be worth it when your done. Better your device for your liking and have fun doing it of course! Hope I helped

Well they might not be laughing too long with Google's purchase of Moto. Never know where I'll spend MY money next. They ain't the only game in town. I just posted that on FB
Unbelievable. What is wrong with HTC? I can't believe they'd want to alienate users of one of their recent phones like this.
I saw this on their site
"HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, certain models may not be unlockable due to operator restrictions. We continue to work with our partners on this, check back often for ongoing updates about unlockable devices."
Which means if Sprint says NO, I guess HTC's hands are tied.
Can someone post a link? I wish to speak my mind

My thinking exactly,I keep coming to remmember when agrbren announced he'd found an exploit ? Then talked to HTC about said exploit,Wondering with a hint of conspiracy if that hole exists in our kernel and they are working to close it? But then they wouldn't have released the 3d and Sensation kernel so fast> just rambling Tirerd need to go to bed, long night tonite.

No Android 4.0 for HTC Desire HD

Its final HTC Desire HD won't get no ICS.
Here is the statement :
After extensive testing, HTC has determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD. When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers.”-HTC
