Noob here (never used Android OS)...I burned Racks Phiremod 6.2/ Honeycomb dual boot on a Class 4 Kingston Micro SD 4GB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045018
I was able to get Phiremod to boot onto my Nook Color, but I get constant errors no matter what:
The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try Again. The only option is to Force Close. I close, it pops right back up. I only have a split second between errors to go somewhere else. Is it the card it's loaded on? If it helps, I booted Honeycomb and i was painfully slow...like so slow that it seemed like the screen was frozen.
Thanks.
Sounds like it could be your card. I've got Phiremod 6.2 installed on the Nook itself and it is rock solid stable. An amazing piece of software.
Hi bigdbo,
It IS your card. Use only SanDisk class 2 or class 4 cards. This has been extensively discussed in this thread where someone accidentally stumbled upon a SanDisk class 2/4 card and noticed that it worked much more magnificently than his/her more expensive class 10 cards. --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12964262

Hey all, was wondering is there something that could be causing apps to randomly timeout and ask for the force close/wait? I get it on Messaging, phone, contact random apps.
I do have it rooted and running on the SD card the apps. 2 GB but happened before I moved the apps to SD too some. It works still if I click wait, but just was looking for some insight. Thanks. =)
Out of curiosity, what is the exact SD card you are using? Just wondering if the data transfer rates might mess things up a bit.
Kingston 2 GB is the one, but before that was the one that came with the G1, Just seemed to have have timeout I guess.. but as I said clicked wait and its fine. But just not sure if its a App causing slowdowns or what. Sad part is.. my Free version of the old Power manager keeps crashing out now.
It is your SD card. The one that came with the G1 is a class 2, which is way too slow for something like that. It is recommended you have a class 6 card. I use a class 4 card, and experience a bit of lag. To get around this I chose not to move the cache to the card and I suggest you don't either. If your memory card is slower than a class 4, then I recommend you don't use your apps to your SD.
Well thing is, I had this before when I didnt use apps on SD. Was it still caused by the card before the switch as well? Justwondering. =)
I mean least everything still works fine, I can "live" with the lag on some operations, just wanted to see if it was normal. I know task manager says a few things are open in the background. I didnt know shopsavvy stays open in the background tho.. (even after a restart)
actually i have a class 2 8gb sd card and i have about 60 apps to sd and phone runs fine o_o
I started using my HD2-7 with an 8Gb class 2 Sandisk SD card that worked perfectly. But I wanted a bigger SD card, so I bought a 16Gb class 2 Sandisk card that gave me a lot of hanging, reboots and lags in the HD2. I had to abandon the card and went back to the 8Gb card...until I stumbled on this post. I followed it and now the card has been working perfectly for about 4 days without any trouble.
If you are having trouble with your card, please try this method and post your result. I think the guy might have stumbled on the solution to the SD card problems.

Many people are experiencing problems with SD cards and/or random reboots, and I think I solved mine (I am rather a newbie), so here is my report.
Few days ago I installed WP7 (thanks a lot, DFT guys) on my U.S. T-mobile HD2 with its original 16 GB class 2 micro SD card, using radio 2.10.50.08.2.
Installation went very well, the phone worked very smoothly and very fast, except it started freezing and randomly rebooting. Hard resets didn't help. Then I removed SD card and reset the phone - it worked very well and fast and did not have any reboots.
I tried reformatting the SD card to Fat32 (using free software SDformatter - it fully clears the card after WP7 use and removes partitions, make sure you put Format Size Adjustment "ON" in Options) and reset the phone with the card. It did not help, the reboots were the same as before.
So I decided that the 16 GB card wasn't good for WP7 and bought a PNY 4 GB class 4 card for $10 at Staples. I reset the phone with this new card inside. At first everything worked very slowly, but at least the reboots completely disappeared. In few hours everything became fast, except for certain things, like it would take 15-30 seconds for the camera to reset after shooting a 1 min video.
Finally, I decided to try something else. I reflashed radio to 2.15.50.14 with the original 16 GB card (reformatted again), and everything seems to work very well -it's fast, and there has been no reboots so far in few hours. The battery also seems to drain with a normal pace.

The guy did alot of different thinks to try to fix his SD card problems, in my opinion it would be hard to identify what actually fixed the problem if any. I had 2.15 radio and changed it to 2.10 as others where saying it would lower battery drainage which it seemed to have changed slightly. The only reason I posted this is to just make people aware before they start reseting there phones with experiments but I also understand that without the above sort of posts the forum wouldn't exist as so much is discovered by experiment.
My NC locks up/ freezes semi often. Usually like 2-3 times an hour. Restarting always fixes it but its crazy frustrating. It did it on phiremod and on cm7. Right now I'm on Cm7 nightly 108 and dagrins oc newest. It freezes are random times and while using any number of apps. I can not find a common thread. Any thoughts or suggestions? Also imrunning from internal memory and I have an 8gb storage card.
The most common reason for having FCs in the NC is due to the SD card. Generally, the newer/fast (class 10) type cards create issues for us. It has to do with the speed of small read/writes. The "safe" zone is to get a class 4 or class 6 card (I run with a 8GB class 6, also a 4GB class 4 - and both haven't given me any issues).
the other issue might be over-clocking. If you're kicking up the CPU speed beyond the 800 MHz, you will start making the system more unstable. If you had an iffy card to begin with, the problem will now seem more aggressive.
You could try reducing your max CPU (settings / cyanogenmod settings / performance / cpu), or replace the SD card with something that falls within the NCs stable range (class 4 is a good point to start with).
I've also found that the NC can have a poorly seated SD card and it cause all kinds of FCs or lockups.
When I do a backup of my SD card with Win32 imager, and then put the SD card back in - there've been 2-3 times where, on bootup, the whole environment just flakes the hell right out. Powering off, and reseating the SD card fixes it right up. So, my guess is my NC has a crappy SD card reader in it, or the seating of the SD cards is fairly sensitive.
You could always try that, too.
Ya. I havent been getting force closes really. Just the lock ups. I'll try a lower setting for the CPU see if that helps. The card that's in this is a like 3 year old 8gb one. I assumed it would be a lower class card. How can one discover what class the card is?

Sometimes on the card, and always on the packaging, is a small C with a number in it. That's the class of it. If it's a few years old, it's probably a class 4, which should be fine.
You're probably running into hiccups with overclocking, would be my next best guess.
Ahh, There it is. Class 4, Yah even after removing the overclocking it still freezes. Hmm.
It may help to get rid of any unused apps. I've had apps from some of my downloading sprees that have caused problems even when not using them. Clearing those first is a good step to finding the one causing the problem. This is just based off my experience.

He makes a good point - something in the background may be causing you issues. I'm constantly cleaning house on mine - I'll download a neat app, then hate how much more my battery drains.
Is the card (that you are using) a SanDisk card?
Other brands (Lexor, Transcend, Samsung, Kodak, Toshiba, etc.) are ok for camera, but are not recommended for NC.
I think I finally got it. I did the new nightly CM7 and cleared data, devorac and such. So a full on clean install. And the card is a Kingston. But all probs are fixed looks like now
If I may add my $0.02... I've heard a lot of people say that class 10 cards cause instability and you should use class 4. My experience is the opposite. I started out using a class 4 and although I was excited about having CM7 running on my NC, it was painfully slow. Starting apps took forever. Some weren't even usable because they took so long to load, and even after they were loaded they were still extremely slow. I got FC's all the time. I decided to buy a class 10 card off Amazon (I don't even remember the brand) and it was seriously like night and day. Everything runs so much smoother and faster. Some apps are still kind of slow, like Yahoo Mail, and Facebook, but for the most part the experience has been very positive for me.
I purchased a 32GB micro SD card for my HD2 after my 16GB card died last week. A sad day indeed, but an ideal time to upgrade
I've read a lot of threads on the forum about some people having issues with 32GB cards, and fake cards. This has prompted me to run H2testw, and also try formatting using SDformatterv3.
HD2testw - Verified as OK.
SDformatterv3 - Completes OK.
Now, when I add the newly formatted card to my phone, it mounts, and works fine. No problems at all. I then start to fill up the card with music. I firstly copied about 5GB to the card, and again I had no problems. The card works fine in the phone. I then copied another 10GB to the card. However now I have a problem. With the SD card in the phone, the phone hangs. When the phone is in standby, I press the power button and I get a black screen. If I remove the SD card then it starts to work correctly again.
So, my first thought was, duff card. So, running the programs above verified that the card is OK.
So, I am now wondering if the phone actually supports 32GB correctly (IE, when more than 16GB of data is on the card). I also thought that perhaps the ROM I am using is the problem.
I am running [CWR] BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA_GINGER 2.3.4-Sense.s V25 (24.May) ROM. I see that V35 is the most up to date rom, so perhaps I will need to reflash my phone. I will be testing this later today.
Has anybody else found themselves in a similar scenario, and did you find a solution?
Cheers,
I figured it out. Turns out to be a combination of things.
1) MIUI player locking up when trying to scan newly added music
2) Locking up because of some corrupt files
Tracking down the bad files resovled the problem

good to see you solved it, cuz i have a 32 gb class 6 and no problem.
some to notice its that to some ppl a 32 gb class 10 works with some bugs, a class 4 or 6 seems to works better.
PS: if you are a flashaholic like me, you should have partition your sd card with CWM partition option, so you could use some of the beneffits of sd/ext that some ROMs use
So 32 Gb works well with Htc Hd2. But, it depends which company and speed.

That's the thing: I bought brand new 32 GB SanDisk and am using MIUI JB. Constantly upgrading with their daily build to new versions to no avail.
Problem: I filled card with my files to listen. Initially it works alright, after some time however I find some folders are gone, some files are gone, things just dissapear from the card.
Now I wonder is it a card, is it a MIUI JB or is it HD2 that got broken after my intensive use. Some electronics burnt down or something.
Does anybody had this issues : combination of HD2 with MIUI JB on 32GB card (NAND or SD - both). Keeps losing files in very consistent manner.
I also checked the card with different software and formatted it many times and re partitioned.
As an experiment I am trying now old 8GB card to make sure if its card or not.
I've posted this in two separate forums in the hopes of finding an answer. After much searching and reading i've noticed a few others with similar issues, but with no answers. Heres my problem: I've installed cm-10.1.2-encore.zip and gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip on my Nook Color with TWRP and everything seemed to work fine. Once i tried D/Ling apps from the store though i ran into the SD card error. Found the info saying to unmount, install app, then remount and that seemed to work. However i now realize that i've run into a larger issue with the SD card being marked as read only. It an 8gb Kingston that has served me well. The Nook seems to randomly decide that its now read only and when viewed under storage it will often show the card as either full or with an impossible amount of data (32.27 GB out of 7.4GB used). This is causing numerous problems with apps that are demanding to use the SD card and also with the Barnes and Noble Nook app which opens and keeps force restarting. I get only get glimpses of the error message and i think it says something about "sd card is full or corrupted. I've also noticed a couple of times that my sd card had garbled looking files on it that made no sense, weird characters and all. When the SD goes read only i can't do anything to it unless i remove it from the Nook, then it seems to function fine. Connecting with the cable and trying to write to it only gives me an error message about it having "stopped". Please, can anyone help me with this? Is it my card or something else? And i have tried SDformatter, ROM Manager, and multiple reformats to fix it.

More data......
On a second note, all was supposedly working well this morning until i tried to access a pdf text book. It told me that it couldn't open it so i plugged my nook into the computer and found tons of garbled/corrupted files on the sd card. Is the Nook or software doing this somehow? These files are garbled names/extension and all zero bit.
Sounds like a busted microSD card. Try using another one.

It is the Kingston SD card and the CM10 finickyness. Get a Sandisk class 4 and everything will be good.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.
Thank You!

Thank you so much! I went out a bought a SanDisk 8gb Class 10 and it seems to be working flawlessly!
Lesson learned, and a bit of new info for those out there with similar issues: You MUST use a SanDisk, and the class 10s will word as well as the class 4s.
Thanks again Leapinlar, I knew I could count on your advice.
Thanks, I also just hit this. I just rebuilt my old Nook Color for my daughter to use, with CM10.2. Weird things where happening like when I tried to download the amazon app store app, Chrome browser just refused with a little message briefly saying "no SD Card". I eventually found this post and tried formatting another micro sd card and everything is working. You posting this message really helped. Thanks.
