Reading Maths Word Document? - Android Software Development

Hello,
Sorry if I put this question at the wrong place :|
I am a mathematician and I am looking for an app that can read mathematical symbols on Android? I have tried QuickOffice and DocToGo and both of them failed to display those symbols I created in Office 2007/2010. Can you please suggest me which app I should use.
Thank you

What you are trying to read, are equations done in Office 2007/2010, am I right?

Yes. Do you have any tips? My equations all disappeared

Sorry, can't help you there. I haven't check docs with equations. You could try to contact Documents to Go or QuickOffice developers, to see if they plan to release an update that supports this functionality.
If you want to read documents, and not edit them, you can always make a pdf, and read it on your android device

ebook maker / converter free

can anybody recommend me a ebook converter / maker
got me a book as txt and i really would pref reading it as
ebook lit or at least pdf
i know i can just search google but there are soo many of them some are shareware some are comerical some are free.....
it's a jungle out there!
PErsonally I use mobipocket, for a couple of reasons..
It supports OEB (Non- protected books, so in 10 years time you will still be able to read them)
The reader is free (on the website it is advertised as a trial - this is for the pro version, install it anyway under the trial, aftrer the trial ends you can still use the software but some of the more complex functions are disabled -like autoscroll)
The reader will operate on palm or PPC - meaning I can share my books with my friends who have palm, rather than having to reformat them.
They also supply a publisher program for creating the books, this is free for home use.
It's not microsoft

The reader I use is muBook from http://gowerpoint.com/.
It can handle .PDB, .PRC, .TXT, .RTF and .HTML as e-books, and display inline .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, .WMF (in RTF) or .BMP.
If you're starting from a TXT file, you don't gain much by converting it to an e-book format, unless you add niceties like an index.
Which book is it? If it's out of copyright, you may be able to get it from manybooks in an e-book format (with index etc.).
well as to which book it is then no it's not a copyrighted book and it's not a book you'd find anywhere on the internet, somebody i know wrote it and all
i wanted to make it ebookish
because then when reading it i would be able to put bookmarks in and get a bit better more cleartypish font then the std notepad
as a rule just make it's easier and more easy to read it

Hi,
I use mobipocket too and I guess, it is a great program. You can convert your .txt - file with mobipocket publisher 3.0.
You don´t need the profressional version and you have the possibiblity to take indexes and a lot of more features of formatted textes and add your bookmarks and other features.
have fun!
well i of cause have that ms ebook reader and i have acrobat reader if at all possible i would pref not installing any more ebook readers on my xda2
will it be required ?

I guess, you will be able to convert your text into pdf- or -lit - format. But the readers have less features, the files are much bigger - but it is possible...
First I had the microsoft reader and the pdf-reader too. Now I have only the mobipocket-reader...

uBook will give you the choice of any font you like, with 3 different modes of anti-aliasing/alpha blending, multiple styles/backgrounds, font sizes/colors, columns, bookmarks, annotations, and it will even figure out headings etc. (for example convert CHAPTER 1 to a chapter heading). No conversion necessary. It just works.
Why lock yourself into some company's proprietary e-book format, when there's great, free, open source software that will read all sorts of formats, and offers a lot of options? If you're using an e-book reader that doesn't read .TXT files and can display them nicely, then you're cheating yourself.
You can also try PDF Printer . It supports Vista.

PDF ****EDITOR**** for the universal?

I have PDF readers that work, and I have figured out my faxing situation thanks to everyones help on these boards. Now I need to be able to sign PDF documents on the Universal. I have Acrobat and can do it from my laptop but often I find myself in a situation that a PDF document needs to be changed or signed and emailed back. Is there any software that would allow me to add a signature like Acrobat or even a picture (i have my signature in a jpg format) to a PDF doc? Thanks to everyone here. FISH
There is a prog for pdf edotong...gogle it
Thanks for the Helpful response. Where on "gogle" did you find this program? Should I spell "editor" like you did "edotong" because when I search these;
pdf editor wm5
pdf editor mobile
pdf editor pocket pc
pdf editor universal
and so on and so on and so on and so on and so on.......................
I get ALOT of programs for my "computer" but NONE for the pocket pc/universal etc... Care to shed some light? Thanks FISH
Found this program, gonna try it out and let you guys know if it works.
I Comment Here
EDIT: Ok so that wont really work. you can write on any program so I was able to sign a pdf and it turns it into a BMP and puts it in a ZIP file but it only captures the "screenshot" and not the whole document.
Back to the drawing board (lol) FISH
Do you want a text based pdf, embedded image, or full Adobe spec?
Because writing a text only v1.2 PDF is relatively easy, I've reverse engineered/re-implemented it in various of my apps and my net browser. But I can't recall seeing it on the PDA before. But it's easy enough, in theory, and if you're a developer (ie not for me, lol!)
V
Basically I would love Adobe Acrobat for Pocket Pc.
Here is my situation:
I am a real estate broker and I receive ALOT of faxes that come to my toll free number and then forward to me in an email. These faxes turn into PDF files when they come through email. I can then open them with a PDF viewer. Sometimes I need to sign a document and email or fax it back to the client/realtor/lender etc.. I can email and fax no problem from my universal. The only thing that is lacking is the ability to "Sign" or cross out something like I could do in Acrobat. Thanks for responding vjay. FISH

Improved Opera 8.xx homepage: Add yours here

EDIT: UPDATE IN LATER POST BELOW
Here's a modified homepage I did for Opera. Looks best at 75% zoom
Supports many* search engines with one elegant dropdown (ie javascript page) - enter keywords and select engine (else press enter for Google as default). Makes Opera a far more useful tool. See list below.
Bookmark areas divided (you can change headings)
Area for built-in opera functions (eg opera:cache) for which I'd love some additions
If anyone out there is good at javascript, else has a history of collecting Opera widgets/bookmarklets that work under JS, it'd be great to start collating bigger n better homepages in this thread.
To install
Backup original home.html if u r worried this will not be nice, else just extract the home.html as another name and change Opera's homepage
Simply extract the files to \Application Data\Opera\startpage
Edit the home.html to insert your own bookmarks (either as text file else in html editor - it's easy)
*Search engines covered: Google, googleZA, google Images, Dictionary, Thesaurus, Quotations, Law dict, Medical dict, Encarta, How Stuff Works, WorldAltas, NationMaster, FactMonster, Wikipedia, Mythica, Britanicca (crap), Amazon, Song Lyrics/artist/titles, IMDb, Jokes (down so not tested). Can add anything else to this script without screen clutter - but that's all the truly useful stuff I could think of. If u want more, post the search string for me (ie the URL)
Forgot to attach zip - sorry. Improved search engines whilst I was at it tho.
This is amazing! Thank you for taking the time to do this. I was even able to cut and create it into a page suitable for my PIE homepage!
wow! didn't think PIE would support such javascript - thought that was one of the things that made Opera so cool. Good news tho - perhaps ppl have other PIE homepages they can post here for us to benefit from.
THX
Just SuperDuper !
Many Thanks for this
Great.

Cool - glad it's appreciated.
Actually the only clever part is the search engine, rest is a simple table with dividers for whatever headings you want (ie copy the divider as many times as you like). In my case I keep all my https bookmarks separate (webmail, 3 banks, server admin, etc etc). You may prefer "News", "PPC", "Personal" or some other structure.
another search engine
First of all, many thanks for this homepage, it's what I've been dreaming all along... almost
Now, to make it perfect, I would need to change/add some other search engines, such as the portuguese "yellow pages", wich url is www.pai.pt.
Also, I would like to know how to set the bookmarks in the homepage.
Can you explain how can I do that? I have no experience in programming, but I believe these tasks are simple enough, if someone can explain them step by step.
Thanks again
vmiguel
EDITED: Ok, I've managed to understand the bookmarks. Now I only need some assistance in geting the correct url to query a search engine, like the one I've mentioned above. Naturaly, the simple page url is not enough, but I can not find what's missing. Can someone help? TIA
Attached is an update with more search engines and links.
The update has a whole load of new ideas - largely set up for for SA but there's a guide below on modifying to your country. Let's add to this list please, and PLEASE post your country-specific pages in this thread:
Normal searches (google, google images, google maps)
SA searches (google ZA, DSTV guide, resturants/nightspots, Braby's maps (serious Java works in Opera 8.60! AWESOME!!!), postal codes, Braby's business lookup, Ananzi shopping
Reference searches (dictionary, thesaurus, quotations, law dict, medical dict)
Encyclopedia searches (several)
Entertainment searches (Amazon, Songs by lyric/artist/title, IMDb, Jokes 1/2 both work well)
Bookmarks PDA
Bookmarks South African (exchange rates table, MyBroadband, ACSA flight schedules and late arrivals (useful!), venue search, current local movie reviews, netflorist, Yellow and WHITE pages!, CIPRO company search, SARS VAT number search) Could not turn last few into search items for drop box I'm afraid
Place for personal bookmarks (banking, share trading, webmail, etc)
Opera internals (History, cache, about, Bookmarks as text file, PPC browsing) If anyone knows the javascript for opening a bookmarks page that would be great cos text page is crap - I only did it cos cut-n-paste may be useful!
Future bookmark ideas (largely ZA):
Taxi booking
Local car rental firms
Local airline schedules
Booking for local hotel groups
Local auction sites
Locla Lottery numbers search
Property search
School friends search
vmiguel: editing is easy as you are finding - open in an html editor or just a text editor. Text may actually be easier cos the html editor will probably not render the CSS correctly.
To add search engines, surf them in your PC and note the URL when you search for a word like 'MYSEARCH'. Somewhere in the URL you will see a bit that says &xxx=MYSEARCH where xxx is usually q or query or keyword or something similar. You'll get the plot. Make sure this bit is put at the end of the URL, and remove the MYSEARCH bit. So, the URL will be:
htttp://www.searchengine.com/search.html?a=1&b=2&query=
The script will ad the entered words at the end.
Some tips:
Ignore other &... items
Remove any keys or session ID's that have complex strings
Don't miss the & before query unless...
..after the page URL should be a ? - all parameters follow this. So if query is the only parameter, it will look like htttp://www.searchengine.com/search.html?query=
Thanks a lot, I'll try it, and get back with a portuguese homepage!
EDITED: sorry, no & or = symbols, the resulting url, after performing a search is http://www.pai.pt/search/mysearch.html
"Mysearch" is a false query, because there is no portuguese company with that name, but if I perform a search for a existing company, as "Norma Básica", the result is similar: http://www.pai.pt/search/norma_básica.html
Any ideas?

Yep, it's a *****! Actually, it's a rather clever search page that remembers your recent inputs and allows you to select them from the drop box and a mouseover popup. Impressive. It works if you append .html to the string generated by the script, but I can't think of an elegant way to make the script do that for some sites and not for others. Think you'll have to do the same as I did for our SA yellow and white pages; just do a bookmark to that site rather than use the drop box. Sorry.

Once I had my links all set up for Opera, I cut and pasted the links only and then used the instructions here: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2004/03/03/83349.aspx The javascript wont work, but at least you will end up with the same links in PIE and Opera, and you wont have to re-type!
Good enough for me. Thanks again, for such a great idea!
you are great !!! it makes opera much more useful now~~thanks a lot

G1 - Can you search Word Docs?

I am looking to replace my trusty Hermes, and the two contenders are the Iphone and the G1.
One of my essential requirements is to be able to open a Word doc, and then search for a key word. In Windows Mobile, this can be done via Menu, Edit, Find/Replace.
I have now discovered that this is not possible on the Iphone, which can merely read a Word doc. So the Iphone is, for me, a non-starter.
Can someone please tell me whether this word search can be conducted on a G1?
No search. As of now the only thing the g1 can do with .doc files in view them in the browser in google docs.

Thanks for the response. Unless a third party app comes out soon, I guess I will have to stay with a Windows Mobile device. What a shame.

[SOLVED] Save highlights to PDF files and then import to PC?

Hey,
Is it possible to add highlights and annotations to PDF's I've downloaded online (all online essays/papers) and then when I open the files on my pc and import the PDF files back to my pc, does it keep the changes?
So will changes made on the Nook be saved IN the PDF as Adobe Reader does? I've been searching far and wide for an answer and my guess is it will but well I need to be sure before I purchase this reader. It will be my first e-reader
Asking the question here so I dont have to make a new account on some e-reader forum. Hope you can help me out!
Thanks
No, all the files (EPUB or PDF) read on the reader are only read only.
The annotations are saved in the Annotation provider.

Thanks for your answer.
I was afraid of that. And by rooting the Nook, would it be possible to change that? Or rather, after rooting are there ways of using the Nook in a way so I could make changes to the PDF files? I've been reading about different reader apps (Moon+ or Radaee PDF Reader) would these do the trick?
I would not mind rooting it, I would mind buying it and then finding out there is no use as all I can do is read the papers... Highlighting is a huge priority and as far as I can see all the e-readers work with an 'export to new file' rather than 'save to original file' function.
Hope you can clear things up for me one more time! Thanks!
Solved
Oke... So I found out what is causing my confusion. I tested some PDF readers on my phone and each time I saved the file and then copied the PDF to my pc via USB the file would be without the highlights. Now I gave it one last try... I used the share option and send the edited PDF to myself via email. The result? When I opened the file on my PC the highlights were there! This is probably not how it is supposed to be but well.. At least a big problem is now solved for me. Kind of weird though.
