Hey guys,
I have looked around here and mainly found peoples topics for the Galaxy S i9000T who are from a different country, need different firmware and have differently branded phones, hence this topic:
I have purchased a Telstra branded (AUSTRALIAN) Samsung Galaxy S.
BASEBAND VERS: I9000TDVJH3
KERNEL VERS: 2.6.29
BUILD #: ECLAIR.DVJH3
----------
From simple browsing I have determine 'TEL' or 'DV' just means TELSTRA (and T can also mean this). If looking at 'J' by itself it can be interpreted as OCTOBER 2010 (when i got the phone), but not sure what H3 is....or if it is read as JH3..
My plan is to jump onto a nice compatable version of Froyo 2.2, however I have NO IDEA which is the best and closest firmware to download and in case of any stuff-ups or compatability issues, if i need to claim my phone under warranty, I want to be able to flash back to stock firmware, which is this Telstra JH3 crap, and have no idea where I can find that.
My biggest gripe is nopt being able to have the FREEDOM to remove/uninstall/move certain LOCKED apps despite trying with various android apps and while i'm rooting/flashing, I thought I might as well get 2.2 since the "proposed" release date in Australia for it, and probably likely release by Telstra will be in December, or so I am told...screw that.
Can someone help me and direct me to the most appropriate version of firmware to download and, if available, the original stock firmware (if it has been replicated by anyone with the same phone as me?)
Thanks
RoOSTA
I've PM'd some Aussies to get attention to the post as i have nowhere else to turn to!
currently there are no safe Froyo 2.2 yet
even the original release in Europe got recalled, wait until mid November, then we might finally see some progress
for now just iron out whatever is bugging you with the current fixes, and live happy until Froyo comes out
is that I9000T a 900 band model or 850 band model ?

The Telstra I9000T is a 2100/850 Mhz model.
Yeah, OK...I'll wait til mid November, only a couple of weeks away...
Until then, what can I do to get the best/accurate/most reliable 2.1 (UNBRANDED) that will still work 100% on the 2100/850MHz bands? I want to be able to delete ALL the crap that is apparently "system locked" apps from the phone...
RoOSTA
i have i9000t latin america versión
and i have made this flash "[HOWTO] Froyo FW I9000XXJPM: Upgrade via Odin, Root, Recovery 2e, Lagfix!"
with a unlocked csc from canada
first of all I made a backup with the rom manager, because i cannot find anywhere the galaxy s firmware of my t model
maybe you can do the same
so whats the optus ones? just i9000? funnily enough im on jg3 with optus.. where as the op is on jh3.. my phone was also delivered in mid oct 2010.
So maybe I'll just try rooting the phone to de-brand it (keeping on 2.1) then when a stable official froyo 2.2 comes out, hopefully MID NOV, just update to that?

Rooted the phone using auto method from the tutorial on these boards with ease, installed Titanium Backup which downloaded the latest or most compatable busybox (1.16 for me). I have managed to delete some "locked" apps, but a lot of Telstra's BIGPOND apps remain (downloads, movies, sport, etc) - they are much harder to find when browsing the list appLIST in TBackup - I jsut got the free version, but impressed with how much easier it has been to customise even still, as a branded phone.

@roosta...im a noob, plz can u tellme the step to step guide i soo wanna get rid of telstra apps and i wanna completely debrand the telstra galaxy s phone without installing any lag fixs like voodoo etc, i just want to instal the original eclairs or froyo from samsung for its galaxy s i9000, but im not sure how to go about because i have the 850mhz next g galaxy s from telstra. Can you help me , thanks in advance
Hi mate, as the reply I made above states, i used the galaxy S "root" tutorial,. i havent debranded hthe phone, but i have been granted rights or access to delete specific apps I dont want, so follow that. I won't FULLY debrand the phone only because I havent got the telstra stock firmware to download and REINSTATE at a later date (if i needed to for warranty purposes)
RoOSTA
@roosta, i wud really appreciate if u cud post the link, i cannot find the thread u mentioned in your reply. and secondly any idea when telstra wud be releasing 2.2 for sgs. cheers

Hi mate,
Is there any chance you can upload your stock rom, I stupidly flashed my i9000t without fully understanding the 850mhz network and now I am stuck with a custom rom and no way to access the nextG network.
If there is a way and I just missed something, please let me know.
Kindest regards,
All you need to do is root the phone which you did, and then get hold of Titanium Backup. Use that to uninstall the junk that Telstra pre-installed. But before you do anything use Titanium to make a full Backup just in case. From what I gather your phone is exactly the same as the American AT&T captivate so whatever roms/fixes they use you can use on your phone. If you notice a lot if not all phones from AT&T usa work fine on telstra as they both use 850mhz (NexG rebranding) while the rest of the world like Optus/voda/whoever uses 900mhz. 850mhz is actualy better as it penetrates walls and buildings better but problem is that only 3 Telcos that i know use it is AT&T, Vodafone NZ and Telstra so they can be expensive for data. But on a better note you can use your phone on any network as it also has 2100mhz(very congested) 3G too.
Always willing to help out a fellow aussie here you go mate

So 2.2 out for Optus, but STILL nothing yet for Tesltra for the JH3 firmware and 2100/850 bandwiths!?!
That's ridiculous...

Hey Roost,
Just wanted to check in and see whether you had any luck mate? As far as the GTalk thing goes I had absolutely no idea about that, but sounds like your only choice here is to flash back to stock Telstra 2.1 and then redo your modifications and reflash to your custom ROM.
I agree with you completely in that the delay for Telstra updates is ridiculous, but this has always been the case. Even right back to WinMo 6.5 on the TP2 and TD2, they've always been three or four months behind the trend. To best of my knowledge there's still no news on Froyo yet, which is just ****ful.
I'll keep checking your post to see if you turn anything up. Hopefully you do and it's manageable. Good luck mate.

Hey all,
Just updating: As per another thread on this board - Telecom NZ have released Froyo 2.2 available via kies. Using registry, i spoofed Kies into thinking my phone was i9000T from NZ, so have since updated to 2.2 wiuth no issues;
For me, no lag fix needed, swype works perfectly, all gps/maps work fine with accuracy and 850 band fully functional. I'd also recommend doing this ahead of Tesltra AU since i've gone from about 15+ useless LOCKED system banded apps to TWO on Telecom NZ; one being internet and the other for 'account status', so very happy with the recent update...

I think TNZ have pulled their 2.2, at least that's the last update I read a few days ago.
I've got an I9000T as well, and am on Telstra. I've flashed Docs V4 JPU ROM and it's working great on the 850 band.
So it looks like the JPU CSC does support the NextG frequencies
Do you think you might be able to list some of the useless telstra branded apps you removed? im having trouble knowing whats what the way its itemised and named in Titanium Backup.
auldar could you link to the ROM you are using at please.
Ok, I seem to have missed out on the hype for this AWS firmware. I’m just curious. What’s the advantages? It’s not Gingerbread, correct? And I know it’s AWS firmware, but it won’t allow 3g on Tmobile, right? I am just wondering. Before I take the time to flash it to my phone. I have looked around but couldn't find details. Someone please help a noob out.
341 is based on android 2.2.2, the difference from 2.2 -> 2.2.2 is security fixes.
341 is the ONLY 2.2.2 based version, all other 3xx versions are only 2.2
(333 is 2.2.1, but it's not important seeing as we have the 341 dump also)
Until dell releases newer versions, this is the only way we can run 2.2.2 (or unless dell gives us the driver source so we can get some serious firmware hacking done)
3g speed is determined by what model streak you have, it just so happens that 2 aws streaks happen to have newer/unreleased builds. They have different modem configurations.
Cool, thanks for the reply. Checked my phone when I went on my break and got a notice of a software update lol. I'm on 318. i'll have to see what it is when I get home and get on wifi.
I recently bougth A501 in California and shipped it to Poland. First thing I checked was the OS Version. 3.0.1. Check for updates, your version is up to date. So I wrote to Acer and this is what they replied.
"Thank you for contacting Acer America. My name is xxxxx and badge number is xxxxxx. I will be happy to assist you.
I understand that you have concern regarding the Android update. I can understand how difficult this is.
Without a valid serial number, we are unable to pull up the product details. We request you send the correct serial number which is 22 digit alphanumeric or 11 digit SNID number such that we can assist you further. There is not a physical label with the serial number on the Acer ICONIA TAB, but there is a label with the tablet's SNID number on the underside of the MicroSD/SIM card cover. Also, both the serial number and the SNID number can be found in the tablet's menus. To locate both the serial and SNID numbers, simply follow the steps below:
1. From the Home Screen, tap on Apps, and then Settings.
2. Tap on About Tablet, and then Device Information.

So after really nice reply I sent them my SN and SNID.
After that they replied.
"Thank you for contacting Acer America. My name is xxxxxx, badge number xxxxxx. I'll be happy to assist you.
As per your mail I understand that you have concern regarding the Android update.
I have verified the Serial Number and found that your system is covered under Standard Limited Warranty.
Please be informed that no updates planned at this time. Any A501 updates require the carrier to approve. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

So now I know two people from Acer, that I don't want to know, and I know something about a Carrier that I don't have, or is it about AT&T?. In this way why won't the AT&T let me update my A501? Where can i get 3.2? Can I take simlock down and then update? Or do I need to root the device (which I would not do, my rooted Desire is enough for me). I do have some AT&T stuff on my Iconia. I really thought that polish carriers are slow in updateing their devices, but now I can see that we are not the worst. I believe 3.2 is couple of months available now. You were always a very helpfull and provided forum support where the big companies refuse or won't have time to help, so I hope there is a chance to update my Iconia A501 to 3.2 without rooting the device.
Thank you in advance for a reply
Bart
If your on 3.01 it takes about 4.5 seconds to root your device. Download Iconiaroot 1.3 and run it. Bamm!! Your rooted. Install Acer Recovery Installer from the Market and run it. Bamm!! Now you have custom recovery. Download any A501 3.2 rom from development section in enjoy!!! Don't see why you are worried about rooting your Iconia if you have already rooted your phone.

Wow now that was easy as 1,2,3. Dammit I made it with my eyes closed (root and recovery). You got yourself a couple of virtual beers and real thanks.
Sent from my A501 using Tapatalk
See how easy that was? Welcome to the dark side
But my question, you have an AT&T a501. So, how is that 3g working?
The reason is a logical one. AT&T locked the 3g to their network only. So, that would mean, the internal 3g doesn't work there? And a local sim card, is pretty much,,,, dead?
If you found a way around this, please, share it. I don't worry, as I am unlocked here in Russia, but, several folks bought the AT&T version, then found, back home in Europe, it's dead.
Actually everything was fine with rooting etc, but I can't find any rom that will update me to 3.2. Actually there is one stock 3.2 with root and SU, but it doesn't look safe, as there were a lot of problems with it. I read the Vache thread about the full packages, and even downloaded the Acer_A501_4.027.15_COM_GEN1, but there is no update.zip or anything else like this, and he states that there needs to be update.zip to flash the full package (afaik with Desire it was the same, You could change the rom with the update.zip only). So for now I'm rooted, with CWM but still 3.0.1 as I don't know what to D/L.
There are only some folders and files, none of them is update.zip, and I don't even know if I need to put the Acer_A501_4.027.15_COM_GEN1.zip on the MicroSD or the folder extracted.
As for AT&T the only option is to take down the simlock, that costs around 5,60 EUR for the code.
I would recommend going for Thor s ROM: http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=79
You should also try Thor s kernel if you decide to go for his ROM.
By far the best one I've tried. If you want to try several, just use Acer recovery installer, you have to pay to use the flash feature but its well worth it if you want to try a few.
Also, here you have a pretty good list of ROM s: http://www.acertabletforum.com/forum/acer-iconia-tab-roms/1060-iconia-a500-rom-list-updated-14-dec-2011-a.html
The problem is I need a stock 3.2 as I read most roms have problems with applications compatibility, and probably most of the aplications I would like to use would not work. Second of all, after haveing like 6 different roms on my HTC Desire and going back to stock 2.3.3 I'm not having any problems at all, so would like to leave my iconia stock as well, even with bloatware.
Did Thor make a ROM for A501?
Just run the Harkon Rom. About the only thing it has, is a cooked kernel for Stock 3.2 (don't confuse the kernel with a rom)
But, it's pretty close to stock. You do not have to overclock the cpu, if you don't want to. But other than that, it's pretty much stock.
And it runs just fine ))
---------- Post added at 06:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:53 PM ----------
So, that being said, my fine Polish friend, let me run this at you.
You bought an AT&T a501. Now, if you've figured out how to unlock the internal SIM so that you can run it on other networks, PLEASE, tell others here the procedure.
Otherwise, what you have my friend, is essentially an a500. Because your internal 3g won't work in Poland (because there is no AT&T network). Am I correct in this?
Unless of course, you have an unlocked a501 (like me)
Now, given the above, and the fact that 500 and 501 roms are essentially the same, I would say, you can run any 500 or 501 rom. Both models have the same exact hardware (except the internal 3g)
You can run a 500 rom (I often do for testing), but, you will have to use a 3g USB Dongle, because your internal 3g doesn't work.
So, run any stock 500 or 501 rom. And, Thors rom, is for the 500, no internal 3g support, but, your's doesn't work anyhow.
I bought A501 only because there were no A500 in whole California, can You imagine? If ever needed I will use my wifi router from Desire, but I don't use my tablet "on the move" so no need for 3G support. I've read the Harkon ROM thread, and I think I'll go for it. So my east border friendly neighbour, thank You for helping me with getting to 3.2. I will post the unlocking solution, when I will know if the unlock code works, and I'm still waiting for it. We do unlock on a lot of foreign phones, as I work in a company that sells unlocked phones.
Do I need different kernel ? Or the stock is just fine?

No problem my friend.
Now, I want to be sure, you have an AT&T a501. Just for me. you don't, tell.
Yes, go for Harkon, it is stock for the 501, but if your 3g doesn't work, it will be ok.
Ignore the overclock, if you don't want to. But, I can say, The tegra 2 can handle 1.4 or 1.5 ghz with no problem. It's the same processor that is used in devices (phones) at 1.2 and 1.5 ghz. So, you should be safe at 1.4/5.
Harkon is ok.
For a little more, Taboonay is ok also. But, I prefer Harkon. Tell you why later in a PM.
EDIT: Sorry. too much rum for the holiday (New Year). The stock Kernel is just fine as it has a cooked kernel. Also, if you wish, Thor's kernel 3.9r3 is a good kernel as well. I did testing for the 501. Both are good kernels. Thor,s has better battery life by about an hour or so, on my tests. But, you should try things on your own. If you like the Harkon kernel, well, ok.
If you want to use Thor, choose on his web page "other". And, before you flash, you only need to wipe Delvak in your recovery.
I run them both to be honest.

I'm trying to update my SM-P605 Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 LTE to P605XXUBMJ9 and I am so confused by the manual process. I can't do OTA because I rooted and when I go to a ROM download site there are all these regions and carriers mentioned. I'm worried about bricking my device or carrier locking it to a company thousands of miles away. Can you help? Sorry for being so dumb but I've never bought a device outside of a store where they set everything up for you.
Current specs:

Being that its a ZS build it looks like its from China.
I would only flash P605ZS***** Builds if you are worried about locking it by mistake.
FYI: The first two digits after the model number are the region

My understanding is the partition that holds the carrier info / locking info is not touched during a flash with Odin. HOWEVER, I never got into that unlocked device thing because I never had a need to.
Someone else may be better suited to the question than I but as long as you flash ZS based firmwares you should be fine as I did not see a carrier listed for that tablet in China so they may all be unlocked.
Actually, I only think the Verizon one is going to be the locked one but I dont know.

You are very helpful in my quest to not ruin an expensive tablet. Do you know if there's an upgrade compatible with ZS for the MJ9 update? I honestly don't mind waiting if there's a chance I'll turn it into a paper weight. Not even a Kit Kat build just some bug fixes from what I understand.
Again, thanks for your help.
I just don't understand all the carrier builds of MJ9. Bloody heck some of em even have custom names which would be a good sign it's specific to region/carrier. So confused by this all
So maybe unroot your device and then you will have an Ota Update... Because if you'll use Odin for flash other firmware you won't be rooted yet, i think.

Aren't OTA updates issued by providers? T-Mobile doesn't support this device so there's not going to be an MJ9 update. Ever. It's using an LTE frequency not even found in the States. I just bought it online because I didn't want to wait for somebody here to give me support. I'm simply trying to do a manual update without my device being a paperweight or waking up to expect a connection from cellular towers in Asia.
Forgive me if there is already an answer to this. I am very new to Android. By new I mean 2 weeks. I have been on Apple for many years now. Jailbreak and customizing is kind of a thing of the past. But to my question...
T+Mobile software is way behind and feels somewhat restricted. Is there a simple way of going to the full version of the latest OnePlus OS?
Thanks in advance for any help and insite.

By far, the best link to get you from T-Mobile software to the International ROM:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-flashing-t-mobile-oneplus-6t-to-t3865966
I've got the T-Mo version and (once I got my phone and bootloader unlocked) was able to convert to the International ROM in less than 10 minutes.
NOTE: You won't be able to get OTA updates (as of yet) but the process of flashing the new updates is super easy.
I followed the how to linked here, updated to the .11 version manually using local update.
On the international Beta 2 now, and it works flawlessly.

If you've been on Apple devices for the past few years, isn't it a bit quick to jump to the conclusion that the T-Mobile branded version of OxygenOS is "way behind" and "feels restricted?"
The only "restrictions" on the T-Mobile version of the phone are the T-Mobile branded boot animation and the inclusion of the T-Mobile app and SIM Unlock app, both of which can be disabled (but not removed). It also doesn't support dual-SIM even though the hardware is there. Aside that there are no other differences.
The system updates are pushed much more slowly on the T-Mobile version. For example we just got the 9.0.2 update while OnePlus has recently released 9.0.11. So yes, the updates are "way behind" if you consider a 2-3 month delay to be a concern. There aren't any significant restrictions. The same restrictions apply to the non-Tmo variant, and in either case you can easily bypass them by rooting.
Now if you want the dual SIM capability, unbranded OS, and more recent system updates, then go ahead and convert. That's exactly why I'm doing it.
As for the OTA updates, I'm reading mixed reviews. Some claim they have successfully received OTA updates after converting. Its not clear if they were real OTA updates that were downloaded and installed automatically or if those users had to manually download and install (in which case it isn't an OTA update, some people just don't understand terminology) It is confirmed that after converting, it is most certainly possible to download the latest software update from OnePlus and use the local upgrade option (no need to manually flash via adb) which is fine by me.

Well you did leave a handful of features the TMO firmware does away with.
But yes, it's easy to "uncarrier" this phone, as i was given my unlock before i paid it off and before the 40 days, submitted to 1+, and in due time and no time fast forward to beta 2
