I heard the standby time on this phone is awesome.
When I got it, the standby time was terrible!
How can I improve battery life?
What am I missing?
EDIT: added poll
This is my experiance.
When I bought the phone...first 3 times I fully discharged my battery and charge it over night when he was off. 3 times like that, one kind of "formating" battery process.
Now with stock ROM 1.66 WWE EastEurope...5-6 programs and 3 games, with normal use I can used him 48h, with full use of everything...24h.
In standbye over night 1%/3h dropps down...

hey thanks! I'll try that. so just let the battery die then charge it up again and repeat?
Do a search. I average about 2.5 days of moderate use.
please don't let your battery die.
Li_ion batteries doesn't suffer from memory loss, so there is no reason to let it discharge fully. let it get low like 3-5%.
but besides that, conditioning of the battery is important on a new battery.
if you flash a new ROM, it is also important to go through cycles before it configured the correct battery capacity.
i got it a couple of days ago as well, and standby time is very impressive. batteryrarely drops over-night.
the problem is during the day with heavy usage...

last night I let it go down to 6% and then powered off.
Then I charged to 100% overnight and I think the life today is better than normal.
I've played a little tekken and I still have 4 filled in battery slots!
Turn off push email and limit anything that updates automatically (weather, facebook info etc..) I went from 1 day to 3 days just by doing that.

oh wow. so if I turn these things that update automatically, can I still hit update now?
I do that now anyway!
Yes...you can always hit "Update now" when you wanna se any new update.
Today...i phoned for cca 3min, send & recieve 20SMS, 20min playing with device...and my battery drops on 85% now...from 8h in the morning...thats in 14h 15%
Is it possible to make maybe that it won't update weather at night?

As smartmob says, yes. I did it like that for a few days but ended up switching most things back on (email accounts, weather, ms myphone etc.), but with longer intervals between things.
I was suprised how much of a difference turning off these things made to be honest. Turns out that my telling off from O2 (1.2GB of data in a week ) was a blessing in disguise

Hmm, so having read up on some posts claiming that battery life steadily improves with the HD2, I've been patient since Wed (when I got the phone, TMOUS HD2), but my battery life is still horrific. I've got every auto update off, besides weather and email every half hour. I've adjusted every other option I could think of that would drain the battery, and yet, I'm experiencing at best, a 6-7 hour usage with NO web browsing, 2-3 calls, and about 10 texts. In standby alone, my phone is dropping 2-3% every half hour it seems. Also, I've made sure that no superfluous programs are running in the background via taskmanager. Now I've read that others have had poor battery life too, but my case seems pretty bad, and don't see hope that the battery will improve much beyond this. Is it possible that my phone is faulty or that my battery's faulty? or perhaps even both?

There's obviously something wrong somewhere, isn't there!
Perhaps it may be a good idea to try a different battery. It obviously means buying a new one (and not some cheap crap off ebay either!), but it's an easier option than sending your lovely new phone away for repair.
same here
especially coming from a nexus one, since day 1 i have tried all of these solutions and no success.. i did a hard reset as well just to see if that had anything to do with it and it didnt..
im at 40% and i have had the phone for 6 hours and a half, i literally sent 10 texts and called 2 people for a total of 20 minutes.. really strange..
i wish these smartphones had bb battery lives lol, but then again my bb didnt really have a huge screen or touchscreens
yeah if I can't figure out what's causing the issue, I might just go ahead and get my HD2 exchanged for a new one since I'm still within the 14 day return period for Tmobile. Too bad I already applied my screen protector! What a waste...

Maybe you can try using with no sd card. Some people found out that one faulty mp3 may cause such issue. Have a look at the topic 'Extreme battery usage with non-official ROMs' under HD2 ROM Development section.
I wanted to post a link for this topic but I cannot post link due to some restrictions.
Interesting, thanks for the heads up. The thing is, I've only been running the stock factory ROM, and I haven't even uploaded any MP3's onto the device either. Anyhow, I'll give a read through and take my SD card out now to see if it helps!

I'm beginning to think there's something faulty with the TMO-US HD2's.
We should do some testing...
I'm kinda curious about this. I'm so astounded by how much it's changed that I feel kinda obligated to post...
Some background:
I have an Xperia X10 from o2 UK and my battery life was /diabolical/
I would unplug the charger at 7:30am, and head off to work.. I have gmail and an exchange server (I hate moxier!) on PUSH mode.. battery life?... by 3:30-4pm at the latest my battery is at 10% warning!
Incidentally I don't have any aftermarket battery.. just the stock one.
Changes:
I ran the root.. so now I have a rooted R2BA023 install.. then I got set cpu and enabled a profile for screen off which locked the max CPU at 384mhz and min at 256mhz.
New batterylife? I dunno, I'm still counting.. 57 hours since last connect and 22% battery remain.
My actual question:
Anyone else done things to their X10, and what battery life are you seeing as a result?
Greetings friend,
To be honest i found out from my testings that firmware .20 with set cpu on auto had the best possible results till now for me.
Now i am on .23 firmware and testing it . i am having a full charge now and i will revert with my comments.
But the results you posted are amazing. Could you please give me your activity ? Calls - sms - wifi etc
Your post:
New battery life? I dunno, I'm still counting.. 57 hours since last connect and 22% battery remain.
Please keep as posted.
Thanks and regards

battery has improved a lot(dint root my phone)..its been 5 hours since i updated my phone at dat time it was 64% n after 5 hours i see my battery reduced to 59%% dats awesome
20min of wifi use(timesscape update,installing app from market,facebook)..7 calls(max 12min of talk)..11 messages n 15 min of asphalt 5..loving da new update thx SE
Baseband: 1.1.27
Build No: R2BA023
Yeah people are seeing about 48 hours average standby with the newest firmware (I might note that before debranding the newest my phone would update to was R1BA016! What the hell are o2 UK doing?) however mine is now at like 60 hours and still counting. Getting close to the threshold at 20% battery remaining but still.. more than acceptable now.
Usage:
Little bit of music playback, about 30 minutes..
bunch of missed calls
constant push emails (my exchange account is pretty busy, it'll see dozens of mails per working day), several of which I reply to...
about 30 minutes of talk time
alarm clock every morning
few apps from the marketplace downloaded/installed
few minutes of webbrowsing
about 10-12 photos.
roughly 10 minutes of video recorded.
setcpu will help out your battery, but the r2 firmware greatly improves on the r1 firmware in terms of battery life. i am not rooted and if i leave my phone unplugged and with wifi off the battery life barely changes at all while sitting at idle.
did you have the r2 firmware before rooting? i bet most of the improvement is coming from the updated firmware
I fully charged my mobile and after 5 minutes i lost 5% of battery i dont know why but firmware . 23 seemz thats not working for me , i will keep it for a bit but already thinking to go on . 20 again. I domt know if i am doing something wrong.

Wow!!!! Battery life absolutely sucks.
I have a Rogers X10. I just picked it up yesterday, so I have done nothing to it yet. It is now almost 5:00 PM where I am and it is dead. I have not even made a call on it. I have not turned on Wifi. I have not turned on Bluetooth. The display is set at about 50% Email is not set to poll. I have surfed a bit. I have sent and received a couple of texts, and downloaded a couple of apps. Otherwise I have just explorered the phone a bit....not a lot.
I'm returning it tomorrow unless you guys have some great ideas. I'm a bit hesitant to root it and flash a ROM of any kind because of the fact that I may return it. I will gladly root, annd flash if I'm confident I can improve the battery life.....and not underclock the processor to any great extent.

What is the firmware on? If it's on R1FA014 then update it ASAP you'll get about twice the amount of battery life you currently get.

most people found that it takes about a week for the battery to be going at full capacity
and then the r2b...20 update pretty much double my battery again
with everything except gps/bt on i easily get over a day and a half , thats 3g , push email , auto screen brightness , wifi on when the screens on
your most likely using the old firmware which has issues where it uses a lot of power when on standby. with the latest official SE update my phone maybe a 1% per hour when on standby. im very impressed
i dont use anything that needs root to achieve this.
oh and if your worried about warranty then you should still have a warrant with SE if you debrand and use there own updates from SEUS . i did this myself (debranded from uk vodafone) and when i broke my usb port they swapped my phone no problems
thanks guys. I have no idea what firmware is on it. I'll check when I get home and plug it in. Do you have a link to Se's latest firmware, or to debrand it?
Dave
you don't need a link.. go into settings, about phone, software update.. update now...
or it's it's not available over the air then you should try downloading SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Software).. and follow the on screen instructions.. sometimes the update come out on one of those before the other.. also bear in mind that the new firmware hasn't completed it's rollout yet so may not be available for your region or brand yet..
Check out the other thread that lornova started which shows where, and which brands the update has reached so far.
How do I find which software version I have? I'm on Orange UK and have done run an over-air update (which did provide me with some update) but my battery life is still poor - unplugged at 10am today and it died at about 11pm.
I don;t mind de-branding or rooting my phone if that's what I need to fix the battery life. How do I go about this?
Will rooting also effectively de-brand my phone? It is difficult to see any Orange branding anyway! Would this help battery life? What other benefits does rooting have?
Sorry, I'm a bit of an Android novice (almost 18 months on WinMo 6.1!)

first thing you should do is plug into seus and update to the r2 firmware, next thing you can try is to download a home screen replacement launcher from the market as I have read that this also helps to improve battery life. I use adw.launcher, it is free and works great.
I have owned the milestone, HTC magic, nexus 1 and the x10a and all of them needed several battery cycles to break in the battery
The R2Bxxx update has changed the phone a lot in terms of performance. Im quite happy with my x10 now and I wouldnt bother rooting it. My 2cents..

> Battery life
> Music volume
Pls pls help me with your comments and it'l be of a great help for me to decide on this phone
Thanks is advance
Im currently using the 023 firmware and also setcup with lots of different profiles. And surely, its helping my battery to last long
I'm losing like 12% or so/hr when using 3g/wifi.. I just don't get why its draining it so bad!! hopefully someone has a really good answer??
R2ba020 rooted, same was happening with r2ba023 root an all!
please try avoid simple answers like task killer stuff, startup, etc.. I'm pretty used to all them now hence y I'm looking for a really good solution?
everything else is usually working pretty well..
thanx

I appreciate all the assistance so far with my Droid X. I am beginning to get used to it more and more.
A few more questions that I am hoping someone can help with:
1) Is battery life horrendous on this device? I fully charged it yesterday and it didnt last a full day.
2) I have now rooted my X. I see references to a bootloader. Do I need to touch this at all?
3) Are there any good updated kernels available to play with?
4) Whats the impression of the leaked Gbread release? Any reason to move to it now?
Thanks,
Steve
1. Yes
2. No it is locked
3. No they cannot be flashed due to the locked bootloader
4. I have had great results with it and it is much better than froyo
Thanks for the responses.
Does the battery life get better with Gbread? If so how do you load it since we do not have an unlocked bootloader?
I have been reading about some ppl working on the bootloader, so its prolly a matter of time before someone cracks it. Not sure why Moto decided to lock the bootloader, when its unlocked on my Xoom!
Thanks I have begun the process of moving to Gbread. Clockwork is giving me some issues, but I am getting through it. Looking forward to seeing how this will run on the DX. I am coming from an Incredible, so for me the big changes are screen size and video capabilities.
I was able to drastically improve my battery life by undervolting the device with an overclocking app.
If you consider the size of the screen battery life is pretty good. I've never had a phone that last all day. There are things you can do to help. After about 8 hours im at about 40% not to bad for moderate use. But it could be better. Now some roms can give you better battle life.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Funny coming from a Dinc and you think the DX battery life is bad Anyway yes GB is a bit better on the battery and works very nice. Other things to do is either lower your screen brightness or turn it on auto. Freezing bloat and services you don't use (facebook feeds ect.) with Titanium Backup will have an impact too. Keeping live widgets to a minimum will help too. Use WiFi when you can and keep it turned off when not using it to stop the phone from pinging for it every minute helps. Using GPS hammers the battery but it can be left on since it only runs when an app calls for it. Same go for surfing the 'net, battery killer.
I can get 24 hours of life using my phone pretty hard but I have run out of battery at the end of the day if I really hammer on it. I keep my plugged in most of the day at work which helps get me through a heavy night of use.
fasthair
For me battery life was only an issue when I first got my DX. After I disabled all the bloat and got a good over clock/undervolt app (jrummy's), the battery life was better on 2.2 then the Dinc and Fascinate that are floating around my house. And once I updated to Gingerbread, the battery life became amazing, I can sit eight hours in an area with horrendous signal and have about half battery life left with moderate use. But results vary....
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
This is all excellent info all. Thanks for taking the time out to assist. Once I had SetCPU installed on my Incredible I was able to get much better battery results. I am going to begin working with this again.
One thing I noticed is that I set the DX to shut the screen off after 2 mins, but it doesnt seem to shut off. Anyone seeing that issue too?
to those of you saying battery life sucks on the DX, dont ever switch to another phone (ie Thunderbolt). I made the move and my Tbolt died three times in a single day. My DX used to last me a day an a half (running Apex rom). The DX is actually really, really good compared to other smartphones with a 4.3in screen.
Hi all.
Have question to ECO7 2.2.2. ROM users. Need honest response please, as its my wife's phone and I shall not touch it unless it's worth doing.
Is the new ROM improving battery life? This is, so far, her only complaint - very short battery life. She does not care about anything else. Personally, it crashed on her quite few times in stock configuration, but she does not care.
Thank you
PS need to clarify something. She spends quite some time using phone as phone. If we disconnect it from charger at 7 am, by around 4pm it will be drained. Au contraire, on my Charge, with Gummy on it, I still have 30% by the end of the day.
Well, you already have my opinion. And welcome to the forums, btw.
several opinions/experiences won't hurt. I appreciate your help and feedback.
I've got EC07 on my phone. Haven't noticed any major differences in battery life honestly compared to EC03 or DC17. I use the phone moderately; leave 3G/google sync on all day, and don't game a whole lot...usually have 40% or so at the end of the day. Hope that helps.

I don't know about everyone else, but my battery life seems to be about the same. I have a charger in my truck, one at my desk and a couple at home. I keep the damn thing plugged in most of the time. When unplugged, starting at around 0600, the battery lasts until about 1300 or so before I receive the battery low message. This was just using the phone as a phone. I use Tasker to automate some things for me, and I have several widgets that update. When I check with CPU Spy, it is in deep sleep for about a total of 2 hours and most of the rest of the time it is at 100 MHz.
When I have done a factory reset, and not loaded any other apps on the phone, turn off Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, News (SNS) updates, do not configure email, don't use it for browsing (essentially use it just as a phone, and not a smart phone), it will last all day... But that kinda defeats the purpose of purchasing a smart phone... YMMV.
hi guys im a newbie about android. yesterday i have updated my phone with motorola update gingebread for ms2 retail (italian).
I wish to know if is there a kernel for improve battery duration, i`ve searched around and on this forum but have found nothing.
thx!
edit: around i`ve read that i can improve my battery life installing setcpu or milestone overclock and setting up some profiles with cpu and monitor differents frequences.
anyone tried it? is this helping battery life and are these app compatible with new stock gingerbread 2.3.4 for ms2 retail?
any advice guys? im still searching around, can someone address me to on the right way(aany guide or thread talking about this).
I have never had any battery issues and still don't. Still rockin' at about 23 hours non stop with WiFi and 3G on and brightness set to automatic.
I actually realized I didn't even undervolt yet, so I guess battery performance might be improved.
hi dude, thx for ur reply.
do u use a custom rom? or different battery?
as i told i use a ms2 unbranded with stock rom, now updated battery seems going better now than when i was on froyo but still low hard arriving in the night if i use wifi
The only kernels we can get on ms2 are the stock ones thanks to the locked boot loader. If you downlooad milestone2toolbox from one of the threads in the android development forum (pretty sure miui has it on first page), it has a pretty nice over/underclock feature. And custom roms will help you battery life somewhat, however if you are like me and can't put your phone down, and are on it all the time, you'll still only get like 4 - 6 hours battery life .
Once and once only, I squeezed out 24 hours, I was very proud. Granted that I was bored out of my brain, but still managed about 15 minutes of gaming, a couple calls and about a dozen sms, 1/2 hour browsing xda, another half on android market.
And I don't know about other people's experience with it, but Juice defender seemed to have actually DECREASED my battery life - quite significantly I might add. A friend at work tried it too and unistalled that same day from the amount of drain he got :/. I suspect perhaps its more useful on eclair, but with gingerbread (and maybe froyo) it is redundant.
Moral of the story - underclocking is your friend for battery life. I'm underclocked to 800 mhz and barely notice any performance loss - even when playing NOVA hd
Sent from my A953 using xda premium
hey dude thx for ur reply!
ok ill try tool box. yeah i think same on juice defender.
well i`ve not calibrated my battery and dont know if it helps, but my battery life especially when use wifi is very low!btw ive noticed that the over 60% of consume of the battery juice is about screen. I was thinking of underclock gpu too when i dont use games etc... is that possible on milestone 2? i`ve found nothing around about that
I didn't know phones could have gpu clocked? Unless you were just speculating
Yeah the screen is a bit of a power hog, but just remember that it has back lights lighting it the whole time your using it, so that's the reason it drains so much. So either setting screen brightness to low or automatic is a plus. Obviously low is best but its pretty hard to see . Autosync/gps will push apps like facebook into the lead too.
I'd recomend one of those recharable portable batteries that has a usb out port, they are so handy in a pinch it's a bit of a decent investment too since you can just plug whatever usb cable you have to charge any device really
Oh and using your phone's internet is a crazy, crazy drain to the battery!
