Good evening yall, just registered and wanna ask hopefully this is the right place to ask this question if not then I apologize in advance for my error, ok here's the question. have the epic from sprint, and waiting for the gingerbread update getting older as I wait, so if i wanted to say get the update from here which one and how would one go about getting it done? One with hardly any issues. have 2.2 at the moment.
There isn't a gingerbread rom currently available without issues. Go too the development section and check out ee03. If your rooted that is. Are you rooted? If so ee03 is gingerbread and a decent rom. Not 100 percent yet. Here is the gingerbreak leak if u want too give it a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082783
For now id suggest that u run the acs syndicate rom and odin the ee03 modem great combo. Fast and completly stable
We will have Gingerbread in June most likely, barring any major interruptions like we had with Froyo.
I've tried several of the gingerbread test roms on XDA and so far none of them have been ready for prime time. If you need a reliable phone, I'd suggest waiting for Sprint/Samsung to release it. The benefits really don't outweigh the bugs yet.

How much of a threat is the OTA/radio to future roms and rooting. I want to flash but not if it will jeopardize future endeavors....unrevoked twitter says not to...
As for the official ota that will be pushed by verizon I would not install it until unrevoked took a look at it, the leaked ota can be returned to stock and is fairly safe if you know what you are doing and have taken some time to read.

jbizzle, MachString's right. Its safe to update to leaked OTA 2.2, and you don't lose root in the process. I recommend SkyRaider 2.0.1 once you've installed the leaked OTA 2.2 Radio and ROM as it's De-Odexed and give a much needed boost of performance w/ CityID and Footprints removed. Follow the steps to update to Leaked 2.2 and then download ROM Manager from Android Market and install SkyRaider 2.0.1 that way
Third
I am no stranger to rooting or to modified ROMs. I will tell you that I am not installing the "buggy beta" that everyone else has jumped on.
Personally, my plan of attack is to wait until unrEVOked gets the real OTA and sees if they can root it. If they can, then this is a no brainer ... avoid the "buggy beta" at all costs, install the pure ota with the proper radio, and root.
If unrEVOked cannot break it; then its a different question and up to your tastes.

Its actually not too buggy. I understand your perspective, but I encourage you to give the rom a try for yourself. Its reversible!
There is also a thread in the dev section outlining all of the confirmed bugs. All of which are minor, and most have been patched. There are no deal breakers here.
The only potential for failure lies within flashing the radio. Do your research on the process.
It's very usable for me.
It is very usable. I even made a Rom based on it.

I'm actually surprised how many posts there are about the Leaked 2.2
Personally, I'd wait until the official one is released and then wait until it can be installed without the OTA. Then you preserve your root and other capabilities.
For those who can afford to mess up their phone and play with new stuff, I can understand... but a lot of people are clearly doing this that shouldn't be.
People who don't have patience, able to read and follow instructions and pull their batteries after waiting a minute or two, shouldn't be doing this.
Also, wait until the official release and try to search for help with all the leaked messages that have been posted. Will make getting real info for the real release harder to find.
Welp
Regrettably, unrEVOked just learned that the 2.2 for the EVO does remove root; and I have to assume that it will be the same for the Incredible. For those of us not willing to use the "buggy beta" this is bad news. I am sure they will be working on it, but it means sitting on 2.1 for a longer time.
I don't see how people are saying the beta is buggy. I've used it, I've used.sky raider.2.0, and I have developed and tested a Rom based off of it, jdfroyo v1

No major bugs here either, but the beta does seem to drain my battery like crazy fast and the Temp was higher than normal, I just flashed back to 2.1 to see if there will be a difference.
Edit: back on 2.1 and the battery usage seems much better and cooler, on 2.2 it was around 105°F and on 2.1 around 97.7°F
Huh?

At least they changed the topic heading of the original release thread to say "Some Bugs".
I am not going to preach from the mountaintop here ... people want to go thru these fairly dangerous hurdles to install the bugged rom, they can go for it. This is 1 cliff I ain't leaping off of (at least while there is hope that the real 2.2 will be shortly released and hopefully rooted)
I stumbled across a page a few days ago, and someone said that if you take the 2.2 update through Sprint, you'll lose your root (I know this part) but he also said you won't be able to root in the future.
Is this true? If so then I'd definitely prefer jumping on a 2.2 ROM and using that instead of receiving the update via Sprint.
I would like to use the Cyro ROM or whatever, but I don't like the idea of not having my FM radio or 4G etc etc.
Just use Fresh 3.0 (based on 2.2) then you can keep all the HTC/Sprint stuff you want.
Any official updates - past, present, and future - will break root. If you are rooted and don't want to lose root, be patient and wait a couple days for the dudes here to put out a rooted ROM without having to wait for a root exploit. When updating to an official ROM there is a likelihood that there will be no root exploit to discover and thus you will be S.O.L. when it comes to regaining root. Patience.
There are currently several 2.2 ROMs based off of the official leak (but it's supposedly not the final build). Look for the rooted ones by netarchy or whoever.
just give it a few more days. the official v2.2 should go out tomorrow. just don't accept the OTA update.
if you are planning on rooting your phone then do not accept any Over The Air updates (yes OTA can jak ur root). the official comes out on 8/3 so give it till the weekend and you should have updated ROMs using the latest greatest. anyone updating to the leaked version 'should' be ok but will prolly be updating again once their ROM gets the official updates. save yourself the stress and wait til the dust settles...unless ur big into the geeking on your EVO...then just make sure your nandroids are good.
Cyanogen will be nice. however, due to that teams philosophy on using opensource code you may not see 4G as fast as you will with some of our other devs (godspeed to madcoders fingers). I'm probably going to load the Fresh 3.0 ROM later this week...once the dust has settled. i miss my 4G.
If you want to keep root, DO NOT download anything from sprint, only download from XDA and the like.

OTA has been known to cause:
Anal Seepage.
Watch.
Right after someone takes it, they are gonna come here wanting root...
If you do OTA, either wait for Root, or SHUT UP!
Don't whine, don't b!tch, and don't say you didn't know!
I am not in hurry to upgrade to 2.2, I don't mind waiting. I've had my phone two weeks and I've barely rooted it and it's still not even setup the way I want it yet because I know I'll be flashing soon anyways.
Looks like Fresh 3.0 will be the way to go, I'll just wait until a bit after the 3rd so I have the final build.
I downloaded the update just so I could have the file I don't want to actually install it. Anyone know where the file is downloaded too so I can pull it off my phone?
I hear the release was made to the providers. Any idea when this will be available. also I am a little new to the droid market, and have rooted/Lag Fixed my phone. Whats the process to update to the latest release once available?
Read the Fascinate Dev forum. Get rid of that lag fix you have, and get a Voodoo kernel. Read the threads in that forum, every question you have is answered there. For status, monitor that forum.
I would wait and hold out on doing voodoo people are having alot of issues with it if it is not removed properly and showing they have 0 internal memory so i know im going to wait with my rooted fascinate until either there is a froyo rom or the ota comes and then possibly install that because you never know the ota may not work if you have that installed.
I would rather wait for a cooked froyo rom that includes the voodoo kernel. Screw the OTA. It will just put you back to square one. All verizoned and bloated.
good day.
im going to guess that the answer is probably no but, it never hurts to ask. heres the situation: im a noob when it comes to flashing roms and rooting and hacking android and what not.
so, my intention was just to stay stock and get the updates from sprint. well when dk28 came out, everyone was saying that this IS the official 2.2 update and all you have to do is download the update.zip and install. that sounded easy enough so thats what i did. i now have 2.2 dk28 on my phone. now , everything runs perfect and faster than 2.1 did with the exception of gps. gps is dead. but heres the question. can i go back to stock 2.1 di18 without rooting, using odin, or any other complicated way? like is there a di18.zip i could just download and install? im in no hurry to go back to 2.1 but when the real official 2.2 comes out i want to get it and ill need to be on 2.1 to do so.
This thread might help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861259
but I think you might still need to root. I didn't read to far into it since i have no problems with Odin myself
i was brave.. i went ahead and installed and used odin. im back to 2.1 and gps fired right up. i think im gonna sit on 2.1 for the rest of the year. if official 2.2 isnt out by dec 31st ill try everything to get gps running on dk28. if i succeed then ill just leave it at that.
Its the phone that I gave to my wife and its starting to do the random reboots often. I think I wanna go ahead and upgrade to 2.3."?" but I wanna make sure I could root it. Is the GPS is working on those. GB ROMs or should I just flash a custom 2.2.1? My wife won't know the difference but I still would like to put a ROM with the least bugs possible (Froyo or GB) that has the best battery life and GPS possible. Which is it? Sorry I would like to do my homework and read, read, read but she needs a functional phone now so forgive me if I sound like I'm just lazy and I want the ROM handed to me. Thx for your support people.

If you update to 2.3.4, you will lose root and 2.3.4 can't be rooted at this time, people with 2.3.4 have to downgrade back to 2.2, if you want 2.3.4 on it, I would give Virtuous Unity a try

just reflash the rom youre running now or flash a newer rom. VU is very stable or sense 3.5 roms like runnymede and bliss are the new hype.
