Is there any true bugless/very minimally bugged ROM out there? Tried CM6, CM6, Evervolv, and some others. I'm talking something that can be fully fixed if there are bugs in it, or is there a ROM that will basically be a stock evo with the sprint garbage removed from it, i was wondering maybe I could stick a savagedzen kernel on it and get some better speed from it as well with bettery battery life. I know there is a fresh evo but I don't think that this ROM gets rid of the junkware sprint puts on? Since quadrant scores and the like are mostly useless I'm beginning to even wonder, are you "truly" getting any more speed out of a custom ROM over stock without getting bugs?
Right now I'm on CM7, everything is wonderful, of course except for the bugs. The random 3g -> 1x for no reason, making the internet not even usable. The random mini-lockups/terrible lag that I can get, etc are all just too annoying to deal with when they pop up. It's irritating when I go to my friends and say "here check this out, this thing has more battery life and as fast a he-...oh well actually my internet on it is bugging out right now and the lockscreen I have to really quick reboot for etc etc." What's the point of speed if these sort of things happen, you know? All of the flashiness of gingerbread is starting to urk me with all the bugs it brings, I haven't tried a froyo mod except for myns, I don't remember what kind of bugs I had in that, if any. What's the best way to go from here? Maybe give CM6 a try again and put SZen kernel on it?(I only ever tried it with stock) Thanks for any opinions/sorry for the mini text wall.
Newsflash: CM7 is buggy, and has always been buggy, hence the ever updated releases.
If you want a ROM that's as close to 100% stable as you can find, try the bigger Sense ROM's....
Are there any very stable AOSP ROMs? Especially gingerbread? Or do these only truly become stable when the real releases are out for the phones? Because If that's not the case, why not just run stock, you know? What's the real benefit? The only reason I rooted in the very beginning was to get rid of the junk Sprint has attached in the beginning. I don't mind sense. However ever since I've rooted I've been on a speed/battery hunt thinking I could get something majorly different. Is it even worth it? What is CM6 like with savagedzen for instance? Because that's what I'm thinking of trying next. Or are all AOSP going to have pretty hefty bugs with them one way or another due to the nature of them?
So far the new ports of the Shift roms are solid as a rock. Misfits for stock. Kings for some ultra themed ones and Zone23 for blue.
Give them a try you won't regret disappointed.
Try Misfits Speedy Port. Pretty stable with Sense 2.1. I'm making a rom based on that one that is stripped down, but not allowed to post dev forums yet

What are you gaining over a stock evo, though. Compared to this?
Years ago the phones were slow and bloated. You could install custom ROMs and actually notice an increase in speed.
With the phones coming out now they are already fast and if you root to look for a speed increase you might not notice much. You will notice all the bloatware gone though.
For a stable ROM I would look for a 2.2 Calk ROM or ones like that. They may not have been updated in awhile but that's because there isn't much to add or change. Everything works.
What about myns?
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
See I don't understand why the call them "release [clients?]", and then release a "full version", even when the full version is still buggy with devices. I stayed away from CM7 for that exact reason until they finally got the full version up. Once I stuck it on i was enjoying it so much but the bugs are just too annoying to deal with anymore. Can't even show off with it because of them popping up at the dumbest times and then it's like yeah so much for that awesome phone hack. I might go try myn's again or CM6, not sure. I just want the stock apps gone, and I want a stable environment. Speed is nice too. Being unique is nice, when it doesn't have huge drawbacks.

The more and more I think about it I don't remember having too many issues with myn's, so I may try that out again. Not sure. Is there any way to get that gingerbread lock off/on animation? That is something I'm really after, along with the gingerbread keyboard too.
On the sense side, I've found Koni's elite series III to be flawless...I'm currently running ava's ginger sense and haven't had any real issues with it either... can't go wrong with either of those.. just my two cents..

No smart phone to date is bug free. Cm7 stable is best in my opinion and that 3g/1x bug you speak of isn't a bug but cm7 actually giving you the accurate data speed in the area you are in.
What recovery are u using amon 2.3 wipes fix most issue.when flashing like crazy I haven't had any issues with the roms . Sense or cm7 work fine. Try Elite 3 , Kings out of this world. Um to many to list. Always do a full wipe when flashing new roms.

I know there isn't a "bug free" ROM or phone. But in terms of crippling bugs, CM7 at the moment for me is horrifying when I'm trying to show it to others especially.
As for the 3g/1x bug it is very real, and it's the worst. I get 1x for no reason inside my house and outside on occasion, it will then switch back to 3g if I restart the phone, or wait [sometimes an absurdly long time] until it fixes itself. I've not had that issue with any other ROMs, stock evo, gingerbread ROMs, or anything of the like. I've reflashed completely fresh with and without the GPS fix, with savagedzen and stock - no difference. Maybe it's just my phone, regardless though, there are so many people asking for help on different areas of CM7 it makes me not want to bother because it is not a truly stable rom for Evo for a lot of people. The battery charger bug I can deal with, mine lags to high hell when it's on the charger - that's something I can fix within an instant and not have it bother me. As for the 3g/1x, the random app mini freezes, the lockscreen not wanting to come on sometimes unless I hold down the button much longer until I restart, and other things of the sort, i cannot. It's not worth the flashy menus, and really the battery life is nothing near a froyo ROM, not even close. (I don't expect it to be).

I use amon 2.3 as well, and I always full wipe after storing a backup on my comp (complete full wipe)
I played with my friend's stock unrooted evo yesterday and no joke, the thing randomly rebooted in my hands while doing nothing special at all.
With that said, any rom here is more stable than stock, but try SavageMod 1.2.1, most stable 2.3.3 I've tried.
I have to endorse Koni's. I ran it for over a month, until I flashed Giger today to pay with 'til Koni releases v.IV
It's not overly themed, perfectly smooth and everything I needed to work did fine, and not one FC the entire time I ran it.
The setup in my sig is how I had it set up. The only difference now, of course, is the ROM
I like sinister for stability, its V4 now and I can't think of a single issue with it.

I always like ava's ROMs for fast and stable - Z4 isn't quite their yet, but give Z3 a shot.
No GB on/off animation mod as of yet, but you can add the GB keyboard to any ROM. There a quite a few diff ones from the themes and apps forum.
Gotta jump in here for some input...
If you just strictly want Sense, I was always a Myn Warm Two Point Two guy.
If you can't live without the screen off animation, Deck's Gingerbread is by far the way to go. Yes, it is built from CM7 to an extent but Deck really does a great job taking care of problems. There is a stable 1.0 and beta 1.2(x). Everyone likes CM7 because its popular and known, but honestly after using CM7 for awhile and then jumping to Deck's rom I will never look back.
If you want to remove the bloat from a stock sprint rom don't forget that you can always just do it by removing the apk's from your system with root explorer or through ADB.
How to through ADB:
--adb remount
--adb shell
-- cd /system/app
--ls
-- Once all the apps show up, you just type: rm <insert the apk name here.apk>
--reboot your phone and BAMMMMM!

Hi, I'm looking for the best fast and stable ROM right now.
Cyanogen is definitely not on the list. Since he started mixing in eclair (and stopped releasing separate stable and bet builds) all his releases have really been beta-releases, and not stable one. Especially the missed SMS/background process bug disqualifies it on its own, and it is aslo slower(!) than the eclair roms, t.e.x OpenEclair.
Eclair builds are also not on the list. Right now I want something that "just work", and until video camera and video playback is working (eg. when we get drivers) I will keep testing them , but want something different for everyday use.
It is important that it has a serious dev who listens to bug reports (an issue tracker would be a big plus), and builds from source, or at least tests properly, and not some new (or old) hotshot who just slaps different stuff from different sources together and hope they work.
So, anyone have a favorite you think suits me?
edit: A good chabgelog/specification of what is actually in the ROM is *mandatory*. I really hate looking at a ROM thread and wondering "And wtf is in this?"
Post in Q&A section next time, and try Dwang's ROM I haven't used it yet, but people that have used it say it's fast.
Why should this be in Q&A instead of general? (Almost) Every thread in general is a question about something or the other.
Try WG-Build 2.6 for a day or so.
theofficials, or the vodafone port with htc features (15th feb version) imo are the fastest, although blandest
This discussion is pointless and it keeps repeating over an over again.
Anyway, my two cents: CM is and will be the best ROM because it has a right balance of speed vs stability. I've tried other "super-fast" ROMs and they all are too unstable - shut downs randomly, force closes, etc.
fasttest without ramhack without issues and force close s. What else would you want
anything that starts with fast or super.....are a +1
after that the only thing that can fall in category would be:
WG Build Y-2.6 (as mentioned above)
and if you can get your hands on a copy Wg's 10.2 is great!
As far as the CM roms go....I'd suggest his older builds 4.2.7.1 and 4.3 to be exact...their outdated but still wonderful, you can port any new apps or framework into if ya don't want to feel left behind.
Super D is blazing fast for me
FastTest v2.7 CustomLite (http://bit.ly/dcLg31)
and
FastClean 1.4 (http://bit.ly/ahf8Gy)
The fastest/most responsive ROMs I've ever used. FastTest is a dark themed SuperD and FastClean is a vanilla rom, both are the same speed IMO.
I was a cyan fan but super D is just stupid fast. I push my home key and my home screen is there within 1/2 a second.

+1.
100% agreed.
The only balance between speed and stability in CM is that it is both unstable and slow. Take a look at this bug for example. Many of the issues that were caused by and consollidated into this bug goes way back.
A stable ROM doesn't loose loads of text and other notifications. CM is not stable, nor has it been since cyanogen started mixing in eclair, and stopped release separate stable and beta builds.
All his builds since then has been laggy and unstable - unless you have a N1, which development effort is currently, and fully understandably, consentrated upon. Seriously, just stop recomending it to anyone. For all the good cyanogen has brought G1 users, his ROM is currently, or at least up until january when I last tried it a POS. And it showed no signs of getting better, either.
Many thanks for the tip about TheOfficials ROMs. Running the ADP based with expansion pack now. It flies, and has been 100% stable th 24hrs I've used it so far. Abduction lags a bit when I run Spotify at the same time and syncing kicks in, but thats to be expected on a Dream.
Will have this as a solid, reliable fallback, eve though I will still probably try other (like the latest OE when they fix BT.)
Thanks for the other tips as well.

THe fastest Cyan is 4.2.5 and the current ones are slower than that, I don't use Cyan much I prefer Super-D and Enom's official too.I only used Cyan twice and probably won't be using it again on the Magic, maybe on the N1 though.
im using SuperD, and it is crazy fast. most responsive android rom ever used.
Mghty Max ROM
I'm running Mghty Max's ROM and is very fast and stable I've tried. I haven't had any FC or shutdowns. Very responsive too (I have activated these widgets: calendar, clock & weather, WiFi OnOff, Music, Handcent SMS, Volume Control), even when I'm on WiFi. I Highly recommend it.

Same here... i was a staunch CM flasher... but they seemed to get slow after he got the Nexus One.
I'm happy with SuperD right now... especially with the JIT hack.
Sup everyone.
Just curious to whats going on in the EVO community, as far as who flashed which ROM, and why. Maybe even provide a link to the ROM, or the dev site! That always helps too. So lets start with mine::
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Which custom ROM are you using? (or Stock?)
- Currently running Fresh 0.2 Custom ROM. Loving the speed and nearly bugless experience. Custom navi-bar is a nice feature, but currently running LauncherPro on top of it.
2) Why are you using it?
- Considering its my first real ROM experience, Fresh seems to be the more popular of the bunch. Sticking with it until something else awesome comes out, or maybe this one can just get better. ^_^
3) Pros / Cons?
- PROS - Fast, reliable, nearly no errors, at all. Trust-worthy name in the ROM society. Removes unwanted Apps and bettery life seems pretty fair. Can only get better.
- CONS - Seem to be having trouble changing wallpapers. (getting FC?)
1.32.651.6 rooted I just wanted root and I like the Sprint and HTC programs
Damaged 3.0
Its fast, stable and everything works.
Once the asop like builds and or froyi get mms receive / camera working I'll probably move to one of those.
1. Bugless Pete 3.0
2. like the stock experience (first android phone), didnt want something with GUI hacks
3. Pros: incredibly fast, no ads, everything works
Cons: Need a second flash to get rid of Sprint Apps
BuglessBeast
Using it for the battery life improvements and built in task killer
Fast, stable and excellent battery life.
No problems yet, but I havent done anything tasking with it.
Stock rooted 1.32.651.6 that Flipz provided. Took out all the stuff I didn't want, and put ADW Launcher on it. It's basically perfect now. I've been wanting to flash some other stuff but I haven't seen anything to sway me from this setup yet.
I've done about 4 of the
OMJ ROM's are stable, everything works, Sprint Apps are excluded. Advantages (since I'm new to Android) are different programs he puts in his ROMs. This is the one I use when I need my phone usable.
I tried the EVOlution ROMs. Froyo is definitely quicker and cooler. I can't wait until we can get it. There are too many things that unstable or unusable about it. I mean, I got kids so I NEED my camera at any given moment.
I flashed one that I didn't know what the difference was. That was really just a test for ROM Manager, which makes the process 100% easy. Just a few clicks and your done.
My next one which just finished DLing is DamageControl 3.0. He advertised well. Sposed to be quick stable and battery saving. All benefits to me.
I also use Titanium Backup so I can restore my customizations. Saves a bunch of time as well. Be careful though cuz a customization on one ROM could mean a bootloop on another.
I use OMJ's Vanilla "eclair" rom with all the sprint and htc crap removed. it's glorious!
Fresh 0.2 for me. Just because I liked his stuff on the hero.

Fresh 0.2. Flipz always did me right with my hero. Tried out the Evolution Froyo rom just to see how Froyo ran on the Evo. Definately nice. Can't wait to have a fully working rom. Tried OMJ for a while. Will probably stick with Fresh rom. He makes a pretty stable rom and always has some tricks up his sleeves for the next build.
I'm running RvU 1.3.2. I then used Buggless bloatware removal, installed Overclock..
I did it because of battery drain.. Before, I was getting about 8-12 hours of use + sleep (3g). Now, I'm pushing 35-40 with use and sleep (these results are when using wifi only, I'm still experimenting with 3g).
DamageControl v3 but switched to EVOlution V7 last night and it's running great.
Stuck switching between FroYo and DC.
I would love to have everything working, but it's just so hard with how sexy FroYo is
Flipz "Fresh Evo 0.2" ... and i upgraded to .3 using ROM Manager.
Running Baked Snack .7 . Stupid fast and I love his customization to the battery icon, notifications and the notification bar. Plus the battery life has been improved as well.
EVOlution v7...If I need a camera ill just load my saved 2.1 in a couple minutes and roll..

only tried fresh although I think it has a memory leak because my available memory keeps on going down the longer I keep my phone booted. Could be wrong.

Right now I'm running DamageControl v3.0, I really wanna tryp flipz fresh .3 but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get into adb on my comp, I've been googling and going through posts here for a few hours now to no avail
Have flashed:
EVOlution: Amazing, but no cameras
Damaged 3.0/.1/.1.1: Nice, and a lot of innovative features, but was too buggy.
Currently running:
Bugless: It doesn't try to do anything fancy, and because of that, everything works great and its fast and sleek.
I'm on Fresh 1.0.1 right now, and have Sense turned off (I do miss the wigets ). I see that Fresh 3 requires a wipe, which I really don't want to do anymore than I have to. Therefore, I was thinking about making the switch to CM6.
Since I don't use Sense, should I make the switch?
Thanks for your imput XDA.
cm6 is asop so no sense..just think of all the things sense offers aside from the launcher..if u can go with out then why not try cm6
Agreed...do a nandroid backup and then flash CM. If you don't like it...restore back. I like CM6, I'm just waitn on 4g to work... then ill go
Nandroid, try it. If you don't like it go back and do Fresh.
I just went through all the sense roms and there is no comparison to the speed and flow of ASOP.
I'll try Damage control 3.5 when that comes out of beta. Thus far Cyogen has been the best for me.
Waiting for a proper kernel until I give Fresh and Damage Control another go. Until then I'm loving CM6 RC1.
currently on the latest fresh and its just fine. Waiting on CM6
Thanks. I think I'll made the move to CM6 tonight. Where do I get the nightly build at, or is the RC1 the best bet right now? I already did an appbrain sync and nandroid backup.
http://buildbot.teamdouche.net/nightly/supersonic/
That's a link to the latest nightly, the most recent one is smooth as butter if you do a full wipe. You may want to go check out the nightly thread for the Google apps update zip, because I'm not sure they're included (like the market and maps and such).

What's ASOP?
CM6 is very lean and fast, super responsive, crispy, sexy, minimalist .... my all around favorite.
Recently I have been giving sense another chance. I tried the stock rooted 2.2 ... didn't like it. Now I'm trying BakedSnack with theme, and I really like it! I don't really like sense all that much though, especially the dialer. I like everything to be simple. AOSP is much simpler and cleaner IMO than Sense.
thanks. I'll download it and load it up, since either way I go, I'm looking at a wipe, sadly. New nightlys don't req a wipe, do they?

The latest nightlies do not require a wipe. FYI you can follow the commit process here to see what changes between nightlies:

CyanogenMod, FTW! OP, you don't actually have Sense turned off (only the laucnher disabled). Flash CM6 and discover the glory of AOSP.
I have been using and upgrading nightly to CM6 nightlies for the past week or more, however yesterday I tried Fresh 3 with netarchy's kernel to unlock fps. Anyway, I am not crazy about Sense launcher, so I switched over to Launcher Pro. I have to say that my phone feels much snappier/smoother with Fresh 3. I am also getting more fps than with cm6. My latest test using fps2 was 55. Quadrant scores 1255 with no oc and linpack is right at 40 give or take 1-2. I am quite happy with those numbers and I like having 4g and the Sense camera. By the way, the latest wimax/radio update REALLY woke up 4g. My speeds went from 1-2mbps to 5-7.
Just started checking out CM6, was holding off due to the lack of 4G but I'm already glad I did. Still have yet to put the battery levels through its paces without making massive changes but I've already decided this is where I ned to be. 4G can wait for me.
Definitely worth a look.
Honestly, 4G is nothing but a huge battery hog. I could only see it being useful if you were tethering and connected via USB or AC adapter.
I have a NAND backup of CM6 but I'm currently running Fresh 3.1 with an FPS unlock kernal. I miss AOSP's look and feel but I'm enjoying having the nicer camera app and working 4G right now.

4G is indeed a battery hog but I can't live without it . In my room I get little to no Wifi coverage (Router so far away) and normally talk on the phone quite a lot. Without 4G, I wouldn't be able to talk and use data at the same time.
As far as the OP's question, I have tried all the ROMs (including CM6) and it is indeed IMO the best one available. I am not using it at the moment because of the lack of 4G and HDMI (I use it nearly everyday). The moment CM6 gets those 2, I will be back in a heart beat!
I flashed CM for under an hour and then went to Fresh. I like some others will probably give it a go once the 4G is fixed. Then again I am a huge Sense fan and love the widgets that go with it. That beiing said, what do those of you that favor CM or something besides Sense use? I want a clock with the weather and the weather animation on the full screen. Is this only apart of Sense?
So to answer the OP's question IMO I'll stick with Fresh for a while longer although I tend to try them all out as often as they are updated.

True, but I do use it enough that I was avoiding CM6 because it didn't have it. But I'm willing to give it up for a while. Can always go back, but at the same time I don't think I'll really be missing it. HDMI on the other hand I don't use, so that's not a biggie.
Have a boss and a coworker who just picked up the Nexus S 4g...
Currently I've got an Epic that's got a real nice fast stable ROM on it, so I didn't opt for the upgrade to the nexus, thinking I'd grab a dual core phone when one came out.
To the question: Boss and coworker are tech ppl, do you think it's worth it to upgrade them to different roms? Cyanogen would be what I went with. However, the whole reason this was required on the Epic was because of the awful job sprint and samsung did with it. With this being a pure google phone it seems to be nice and fast right out of the box. I noticed the GPS is a bit weak, I guess that's normal for samsung crap?
Anyway, what do you think? Keep in mind they aren't going to be happy if their phone breaks on a friday/sat/sun/worknight/vacation because I put a ROM on it.
Would you do it? Or just Root them and leave it stock?
I'd just leave their phone stock. It's your boss / co-worker, rooting your phone requires maintenance. The current CM7 stable is running Android 2.3.3, the nightlies are on 2.3.4. 2.3.4 is far more faster. Nightlies are stable, but a few bugs need to be tweaked out.
Besides, I wouldn't do it on my bosses' phone. Anything goes "wrong," its your fault.
I would try openSoju its fast and incredibly stable. Not a huge improvement from stock though.
so there isnt a huge upgrade from stock? what are the differences?
Like I said I know on the epic, it was speed, gps actually worked, etc.

+ Extra Speed (Yeah NS is fast.. but even faster when you mod it)
+ Custom Kernel (This is the huge one)
... Voodoo Color
... Voodoo Sound
... and more (visit a kernel thread for its full features)
+ Notification bar widget (your pull down.. those buttons, they're customizable)
+ Music Control on lock screen
+ Lock screen mods
basically everything. go do your own homework on these ROMs. everything is right there. I don't want to just paraphrase what is already said. Just go to the dev forum and look for yourself.
I personally wouldn't mess with their phones because its their phones. They should decide for themselves.
Rooting and flashing ROMs requires maintenance. If you don't flash a newer version a bug can mess with your phone from causing it to be a day to day thing. What if a new OTA comes? You'd have to update their phone (or themselves if they even know how to).
Basically, if you root their phone. Their phone's responsibility is built upon you. If you want that burden then you can root it and do that, but I personally don't want that. Up to you.
I would root their phones, just to do it ;D
I would also leave it stock, other than netarchy kernel. Thats the setup that I always go back to, very solid, fast as hell at 1.2ghz, and no maintenance or issues to worry about. The NS4G is very fast out of box, but I still notice a few hang ups opening and closing certain apps with the stock kernel. The netarchy kernel makes that stuff almost non-existent. Plus, if you say they are tech people, they will like the options being rooted adds to it. Just my thoughts...
yes I already rooted them for them.
I was just wondering if it's worth a custom rom/kernal.
Maybe I'll throw a kernal on the bosses phone... he'd notice the difference

FYI, there is no CM7 stable for the NS4G. The nightlies use 2.3.4, which is all the NS4G ever had.
Well if you're already rooted, you're already committed to maintenance when it comes to new software releases.
Install a new kernel on there and add BLN Control. That's really all you need to do.
Flash mikyinids deodex rom you'll get the netarchy kernel and the option to theme or add on things like the quick panel yet keep the is stock.

Two options in my mind:
1. Keep it stock but rooted and flash a custom kernel for voodoo +BLN.
2. Flash MIUI.
MIUI is a little buggy, has no WiMax, requires maintenance and constant flashing so I'd stick with #1.

I'd do flash a kernel and install setcpu and adfree. I've tried every ROM out there and always go back to stock. I have yet to try a ROM that works 100%. This google ROM just works.
This phone isn't like others, we don't have bloatware that needs to be removed.
On CM7 nightly 17 w/ netarchy kernel and running UV voltages and everything has been super stable for me. I use my phone for work.. lots of voice, email and texting and never had a crash or anything. The only weirdness is with voodoo color when I unlock the phone. Another weird thing is the lag when I use the dialer with a BT headset. other than that everything works great.

I fully concur.
I am currently running NilsP Business Sense 2.1/3.0 and i was wondering what performence hit i'd take if i plunged straight to 3.5? I used early 3.0 ROMS and they were painfully slow.. I was wondering if they were the same now.
My 3.0 rom is fast. Just doesn't sound like there's a whole lot more to a 3.5 than a 3.0 so I couldn't tell you my experiance as far as speed with 3.5.
Nils Business gingersense 3.0 v2.1
Sorry, but ALL Sense 3.x ROMs drag sorry ass on this device. There's no way to get around it. The software is just too muscular for the device. You end up with a crazy amount of vm being used, and since NAND memory is some pretty slow stuff, the lag becomes something best measured in full seconds.
^^ what he said.
and anyone who claims their 3.0/3.5 roms run "super fast" and "lag free" must never have run a stock incredible lol because the stock inc is how this phone is supposed to run (sense 1.0)...sense 3 is waaaaaaay too laggy. the one thing that always pissed me off is the notification dropdown menu lag. sometimes it would take up to 5 seconds for mine to drop down, even when i was just idling doing nothing. very annoying.
The 3.5`s are pretty, but sloooooww comparably. Even with nothing added application wise, and overclocked, they lag. No reflection on the (any) developer, it's literally bunches more software for the device to attempt to utilize, when it's built for less.

Well, I will point the finger a little at the devs. As usual, it seems like the push is only for the latest and greatest, neglecting the upkeep of decent older ROMs with older Sense versions. In the past that hasn't been a real problem, but with the advent of Sense 3.0, finding regularly updated 2.1 and older ROMs is hard. At some point they NEED to realize that this device isn't a dInc2, Tbolt, or EVO 3D and cut the crap with Sense 3.x+. Sense 2.1 with some 3.0 elements really is about as far as it should go.
I thought Joel's Sense 3.0 ROM on this was crazy fast. Then I used a 3.0 ROM on my inc2. Big difference. At the stock clock speed my phone still has no lag on my current 3.5 ROM.

Love it!
But what's this about we don't upkeep our older Roms? I try to keep at least my Hybrid Speed update. I've had six Roms publicly ported and released. Hybrid Speed was my second Rom. In fact Hybrid was the most recently updated, even updated after my Desired Inc Rom. People are still using Hybrid Speed and still leave nice comments and send nice PM's about how they like it, so I guess I'm doing something right there. Thanks to everyone who showed support for me and my Roms as well!
I think a major part of rom development is with these updates and everything, we can work on them and fix them up until there almost flawless. Once we have done that, the development for that Rom is pretty much done. Depending on how far the developer wants to take his rom. Well mods and everything else. Most of the time what mods are in my Roms when I release them is actually how I use them and how I have my own set up. I like to leave everything else up to those people who just use the Roms.
One thing I've noticed. All the older Androider's tend to find a Rom/Dev they really like and they stick with it. At this point in the game they KNOW what they want in a Rom and what to expect from Roms currently on the board. All the new guys like to flash everything under the sun. Just proves that just because [insert name here] releases Super Rom V.infinity which just so happens to be blend between iOS, Android, WM, webOS, whatever they call BB os, lol, and then finally BREW mobile doesn't mean its the best choice for everybody. Its just that though, another choice.
Until then everybody should just continue using what they like and keep reporting bugs and always try to leave feedback and comments about what they like/hate about the Roms they use.
Man, I hope nobody thinks I actually have or am trying to make a point here. I'm just thinking out loud as usual.

I'm fairly dev-agnostic when it comes to ROMs these days. I'll check yours out. I seldom see the device for long periods of time but I've been flashing as many as I can looking for a good balance. I appreciate your input.

Thanks.
Hope my nose doesn't turn to brown here, but I gotta say I always look forward to your comments and incite on things. Its always something good. I'm nervous that your gonna try my Rom even, lol. But for real I hope you like it. And as always, I look forward to your 'real' input on it.
Well, I'm running on a 3.5 Sense Rom from SD card.
There was a huge eating of memory, until I installed AutoKiller which allows you to edit the limits of ram and on an aggressive profile, the Rom is now very well usable.

Why would you run 3.5 from the SD? That's gotta be really slow. I'd probably run something like OMGB or CM from SD but leave 3.5 on the system.

I run it from the SD because I'm still figuring out how to install on NAND and I'm also unable to sync with my PC :S
So for now I'm at SD and its my daily ROM. Besides the DATA image is 1GB size and with that ran tweak, its very stable.
although I'd prefer it on NAND...

Are you using Conap's Boot Manager?
I this k many of the left over issues present in these roms aren't necessarily the dev abandoning it, but rather they can't fix it, either because it would take too much time or they don't know how/can't figure it out. MMS over Wifi is a big one on the 2.1/3.0 hybrids. I've seen many devs try to fix it but they just can't.
Like Stang said, once a rom reaches Nearly Flawless state, which is everything is fixed minus the persistent issues across all similar based roms, its development is completed. These people don't get paid to sit for hours to make every little thing work on our phone.
I think this fact causes frustration among users, that life isn't kittens and rainbows and we can't have the latest and greatest working like a champ on our aging hardware. Its not the devs fault guys.
Choose CM7 or a sense 1.0 rom if you want stability and speed. Anything else will always have little issues that frustrate you.
As for me, I like to use one of these newer roms until I get frustrated by these little issues, then go back to CM7/1.0, then once I'm bored with that I go back to a newer sense rom... Rinse and repeat

ok, so I'm running a 3.0 sense rom in the Nils rom I have. There is no lag between home sections. (I don't have the 3d tilt accelerometer feature on of course) and as for the pull down, I will agree, sometimes it does lag, but I hardly ever use the pull down anyway, and my case doesn't make it easy to pull down anyway. I usually go through the menu button/notifications to have the pull down come down. Other than that...what lag is this you speak of? I also don't run a live wallpaper very much in order to help out the battery life a little as well. So maybe thats where some lag people are speaking of is being caused?
Maybe its just me, but I'm not experiancing heavy lag with my 3.0 rom and I am even running the latest kernel. I will agree however, if you want the fastest most optimized rom for a dinc, then get a stock rom of course. But the 3.0 rom I'm running is running smooth.
I'm Running Nil's Sense 3.5, and I love it!!
(if you have tried other Roms, make sure you follow his whole wipe guide in his Sense 3.5 post 1)
I love the speed of this rom! If you are happy with 3.0, stick with it, but I love the way the email looks and works in 3.5 (it's a little snappier, and allows for more customization)
While his 3.0 was pretty fast, I find 3.5 to be just that much faster.
Plus, gets even faster if you use Tiny's Kernel!
but when you compare either 3.0 or 3.5 against 1.0... 1.0 just sucks!

Sure its right here, lol--->
I'm using Nils 3.5, and while there is some lag here and there, its a good, stable, and fairly snappy ROM. I also have V6 Supercharger (way aggressive) and the GingerTiny kernel, and that helps.
Maybe I'm just not expecting as much...I knew it would be slower than stock, but I feel its worth it for the enhancements.
But, to each his (or her!) own.
