There has been a lot of discussion about warranty for galaxy s2 for users in USA.
I have found some definite answers. Summary is : none of them will get warranty in usa but needs to be shipped to UK/Europe.
I was planning to buy one handset but holding back due to the lack of warranty.
However if someone has got other info please add it here
1. Handtech : I sent a mail and this is the reply that i got.
If you needed to claim on the warranty for the Galaxy II then it would more than likely have to come back to us I'm afraid as it is only covered by a UK warranty. However, sometimes Samsung in Europe will help but we obviously cannot guarantee this as it would be their decision.
2. Expansys-usa - Talked over the phone -
Told me they will help me ship the phone to UK. But i dont know how fast that is going to be.

Pretty much as is and as has been reported .
Two warranty suppliers one the seller and two Samsung .
Samsung have said in the past that they cover warranty within Europe providing user has receipt from authorized seller .

My company buys $10MM a year in Samsung TVs. My global account rep checked with the retail electronics group and said it would be serviced at any Samsung repair center worldwide. I'd take that over a shop clerks statement.
Here's an excerpt from the e-mail I received:
In the event that warranty service is required on your Samsung Mobile product and you are located outside of the country where it was originally purchased, the local Samsung entity in the foriegn countries listed below may be able to provide you with warranty service (labor or parts) during your warranty period.
Any warranty services rendered shall be in a manner consistent with the terms and conditions of the Samsung Mobile Products Limited Warranty. Warranty services performed outside the country of purchase may take longer if parts are needed to repair.​
Samsung posted a reply to a consumer and that was the basis of my statement regarding warranty in Europe .
So one part of Samsung differers with another .
Personally if its an international model i would expect warranty to be covered worldwide .
Buy one from Europe break it take it to Samsung USA service centre will be the test .

So true. That's the only real test. Personally, I'd rather not be first.
I was sending tweets to @galaxyssupport and they wouldn't give me the time of day. Referred me to SamsungUK as "its not a US market phone." SamsungUK has yet to repsond to me. That was a few days ago.....
Anybody have updated info on this? I bought from Expansys and would like to know who I would talk to regarding a warranty covered issue. Thanks.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I bought from Handtec, had to return it for replacement (screen issue diff from ring or yellow). They shipped back using Royal mail, took forever b/c of the Canada post lockout.
The point is shipping back and forth for issues on a phone that seemed to have a propensity for initial quality errors, could get expensive.

Cost me approx 79.10cdn to ship back via Fedex. (Canada Post would have cost me $69 but they were on strike &or locked out).
Sent it back June 16, 2011 and received my phone July 11, 2011. (i had my old phone to use in the meantime)
It was just super annoying to check tracking and seeing that it hadn`t left UK for weeks because of the mail lockout, esp when they could have shipped it fedex. Oh well, at least I have it back now.
I just went with SquareTrade. Cost $94 for 2 years with ADH. Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) coverage.

If you're in the U.S. might want to look into that. I called them before and because it doesn't have a standard U.S. warranty, it is not covered by Squaretrade.
Of course they have no way of knowing if your phone has warranty here in the U.S. or not, so they let you set it up. Make sure you can keep it, if not cancel it before the 30 free days are up.
You can buy a SGS2 at Amazon right now for $673 with free shipping (if you have Amazon Prime). Probably won't have to pay tax either unless you live in WA state (or some other unlucky state). Amazon has a 30 day return policy.
So, total Amazon cost without warranty is most likely $673.
If you buy from Expansys USA, you pay $700 plus tax. The tax for my state is $54. In addition, I give another online vendor my personal information and billing details.
So total Expansys USA cost is most likely $754. For me, it's an extra $81 over Amazon. Or 12% more.
What do you get for that $81? You probably get a two year warranty against manufacturing defects. Amazon is one month. It's unclear whether you have to ship it back to the UK. If you do and you pay the same as benivolent (thanks for the info, benivolent), you'll pay another $70 or so and wait at least 10 business days.
So, if you to ship it back the UK, total Expansys USA cost is most likely $824. For me, it's an extra $151 over Amazon. Or 22% more.
Even if you have to replace the screen which costs $350 (according to BarryH_GEG), the actual savings is $199 if you have to ship back to the UK or $269 if you can get it repaired at a Samsung service center. Of course, if a button fails after the first month, the savings will be much less or nothing at all.
So, from a breakeven standpoint, paying up for the warranty only makes sense if you think there is more than a 12% or 22% chance of something major breaking after the first month.
For me, the more like scenario is I drop or lose my SGS2.
Let's say we can get SquareTrade accidental damage from handling coverage for $94 or 14%. It might be useful if you drop your SGS2 in a puddle or drop it without a protective cover. In that case, you definitely want to buy from Amazon. However, that coverage is questionable given what Oat23 said. Your SGS2 may not be covered since it doesn't have a standard U.S. warranty.
Nothing will cover you if you lose your SGS2.
Personally, I never damaged any of my phones from dropping them and I never lost one. So it has paid for me in the past to forego insurance. That's hundreds of dollars in savings. Whoa, lot's of info.
For purchase, I'd go a third route - clove.co.uk. It's $415 GBP ($670 USD) delivered in three days. It'll be fresh UK stock. If it has a defect, you'd be stuck with one-way shipping but someone else had a problem and Clove was good to work with. By purchasing it in the country of intended sale it's covered by the two-year warranty. My company does a lot of business with Samsung and I was told that the phone could be repaired in the U.S. under their Global Warranty program. It's yet to be tested though. If I bought from Amazon it would be through them direct, not an affiliated seller. To your point, if the first phone's defective in any way, they'd be the cheapest and fastest way to get an exchange. Expansys-USA would be second but they'd be more expensive. Both Amazon and Expansys have shipped phones from funky places like Poland and Chile. I got my phone from the UK and it was perfect. I'm guessing with 3MM sold your chances of getting "perfect" would be a lot higher than "crappy" if you went the UK route.
As for SquareTrade they do cover grey market phones. If you can Google a 30% off coupon it's $94 for $600 of coverage for two-years. It's also transferable which makes the phone more valuable on eBay if you ever want to sell it. I'd bet they'd cover the cost of shipping to the UK for warranty repairs also - it's cheaper than them having to eat the phone at the full $600 of coverage. The screen alone is $450 to replace so, to me, the $94 is worth the piece of mind and as a back-up to the Samsung warranty.

You are correct. I checked as well a couple of months ago and they said if it is a UK version of the phone, Squaretrade will not cover it in the U.S.
One way they will know it does not have a US warranty is if you purchased it from and overseas vendor since Squaretrade requires you send in a copy of the purchase receipt. The other problem is even if you bought it from a US vendor and the phone fails in the first year, Squaretrade will tell you to work with the manufacturer since it is "covered" in the first year warranty period.
I guess another option is if you bought it from a U.S. vendor and you have an Accidental Damage policy you could smash the phone with a sledgehammer, accidentally, and try to submit a claim and pay any deductible. But if that doesn't work, all you have are pieces of the phone left.

The only time Squaretrade "may" cover a grey market cell phone is if it was purchased through eBay. Squaretrade has specialized warranties for eBay purchases. Otherwise, Squaretrade will not cover grey market cell phones.
On the cell phone warranty sign up page, in the fine print it states "The SquareTrade cellphone warranty prices listed above are applicable to new Cell Phones (with a full 1 year manufacturer warranty) purchased from authorized outlets."
Then on the grey market FAQ it states "SquareTrade honors every valid claim, and only voids a warranty if the item was never eligible for a Care Plan or in cases of outright fraud."
In the case on of a non-ebay grey market phone, it is never eligible for a Care Plan in the first place.
That is what they told me when I asked a couple of months ago. If you hear differently from Squaretrade I would love to know (and a contract name and email for Squaretrade to set me up).

I sent them my UK receipt to have on file so I can go paperless if I need to file a claim. My policy has been updated online to show "receipt received and on file." I checked a lot of different options and their the only ones I could find that would cover a grey market phone.

Where do you see that Asurion does not cover accidental damage? They clearly state coverage for loss, theft, and damage (even water damage). Where does that exclude accidental damage?
Is SquareTrade's coverage tied to a specific phone? One of the reasons I liked Asurion is that it covers whatever phone I'm using at the moment. So for now it would cover my N1, but when I upgrade in 6-9 months (I wish)...it'll automatically cover the new phone.

Yeah that's definitely a requirement for me. Half the reason I'm getting insurance for my N1 is for theft/loss.
I've never lost a phone, so I can take my chances there.
My problem with Asurion is that the way I read their contract, they can replace your phone with anything they want to... Any phone of any value. Perhaps they don't do that, but it's what I saw in the contract.
Basically all insurance plans are heavily biased toward the insurer. At the end of the day you decide what perils you want insured and whether it's worthwhile. There are reasons for going either way.
So I've been looking around for insurance for my SGS2. All the UK/EU insurers won't touch a phone being used primarily in the U.S. Somebody said SquareTrade doesn't insure grey market phones. Here's what I found in their T&C:
- If your item is used, or doesn't have a US manufacturer's warranty of at least 90 days ("Other"), then the Service Agreement begins on the 61st day after item purchase and lasts for the number of years of coverage you specify at purchase time.
- If the manufacturer refuses to honor their warranty because they consider your item grey market or not purchased from an authorized retailer, we will still cover you.
So it seems for ADH and mechanical defects they'll cover the phone up to $600 with a $50 deductible for two years. They don't cover loss or theft. Here are the complete T&C.

The price is $124 plus tax. But use "JULY04" as a coupon code and it drops to $94. I'd rather have something that covered loss or theft too but it doesn't seem like a bad deal for the peace of mind.
I'm waiting on a reply from ensquared.com, but their's is more comprehensive and up to $1000. I'll post back tomorrow with the reply.

I toyed with the idea of getting the Squaretrade warranty and accident coverage for my TF and dock, but figured I'd save the money. Yup, $70 after discount code was too much. What could happen?
What a mistake. This week, I was caught in a flash flood during the heavy rains on the East Coast. Transformer and dock (as well as a bunch of other electronics in my car, like my phone) were lost, filled with water and dirt. (The only thing I could salvage was the 32G flash card.) I can't replace it because I also lost an expensive, 10-month-old car, and need to cover the shortfall from the insurance.
I sure am glad, though, that I saved that $70.

No, no flood insurance on my home. Not in a flood zone. (Ironically, ordinary homeowner's coverage would have applied if it was damaged by, say, a leaky pipe. But not for flooding.)
I would ask your car insurance to cover it. I believe if you are in an accident they cover stuff in the car. i actually surprised they covered the car for a flood at all. No guarantees, but worth asking.

Believe me, I checked. No coverage of personal articles in the vehicle. The car itself is covered under comprehensive.

They only cover items that become part of the car (i.e. mounts, car seats, etc) items that are not fixed in the car are not covered. This is what my insurance says.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way, sure your TF got wrecked but you still made the right decision by not purchasing the warranty. If there's a 10-15% chance of it getting lost/stolen, $500 TF * 0.15 is $75 of value, but then you need to consider that they probably have a deductible which is probably going to add another $100 minimum on top of it.
Insurance is almost always a scam.

I know -- the story is dripping (!) with irony. But, with the exception of phones, there is no deductible on accident coverage. That's why it's such a good deal.
I think I'm the only one here that's ever bought SquareTrade warranties so let me clear up some mistakes some people have said.
1. You have to buy your warranty within 90 days of purchase date (they do require receipt for proof of purchase you email/fax them your receipt). eBay items you have 30 days.
2. You can buy warranty with ADH (Accidental Damage from Handling). This gives you protection against ANY DAMAGE, water, physical, whatever. You break it accidentally, they send you a new replacement device. ADH can only be purchased on items within 30 days of purchase date. There is a deductible, but it's only $50 and only on Cell Phones.
3. You can get a REFUND ANY TIME for your warranty! Any unused months of coverage, you get refund back to your credit card. You can get a FULL refund within 60 days of buying the warranty.
4. If the item is broken and they don't make the device anymore, or they can't fix it, etc.. you get a check for your FULL RETAIL PRICE you paid for the device.
Back in December 2010, I bought the Nexus S, I also bought SquareTrade warranty with ADH coverage for $99.00.
In July I sold my Nexus S and got a refund of $72.15 from SquareTrade. It cost me $26.85 to warranty my Nexus S for 7 months. That's pretty damn cheap and great peace of mind. Compare this with insurance through the cell carriers.
So, Personally I have SquareTrade warranty for my Transformer... guess how much it cost me?
$56.24 for 2 years with ADH. (I had great coupon codes).
So $399+$56.24, If my Transformer gets flooded, I get a brand new $399 Transformer, I save about $342. How is that a bad deal?

Yes yes, I usually agree with extended warranties being a rip off, but those are mostly for old school methods of selling them at big box stores for freaking coffee makers, projection tvs, toasters, stupid **** like that.
SquareTrade really is a different type of warranty company. Do a Google search on SquareTrade and you'll see a ton of good things about it.
As a purely "warranty" company...I'm sure squaretrade has a better business model than most...but nevertheless...they are not an exception.

Realize until that provervial flood actually happens...you're actually taking a loss of $56.24...and it will likely stay that way. Thats how squaretade maintains a net positive income and that's how it's a bad deal.
Comparing a person who buys squaretrade warranty for every highend purchases they make...vs one who take the same amount of money and deposits it into a "oh s#it" bank account...they later would come out on top...and would most likely be in a net positive

For the 3 devices I've bought a SquareTrade warranty (and a couple I've bought and refunded after I sold the devices), doing a quick calculation in my head, no, it wouldn't have saved me money if I sat on the money.
I buy all my devices and phones full price $400-$550 with tax, so spending $50-$99 up front for the piece of mind for 7-10 months, then getting most of it back after I sell the device is well worth it.
Again, only talking about SquareTrade. Screw Best Buy's Geek Squad Protection and all that.

Back in December 2010, I bought the Nexus S, I also bought SquareTrade warranty with ADH coverage for $99.00.
In July I sold my Nexus S and got a refund of $72.15 from SquareTrade. It cost me $26.85 to warranty my Nexus S for 7 months. That's pretty damn cheap and great peace of mind. Compare this with insurance through the cell carriers.
So, Personally I have SquareTrade warranty for my Transformer... guess how much it cost me?
$56.24 for 2 years with ADH. (I had great coupon codes).
So $399+$56.24, If my Transformer gets flooded, I get a brand new $399 Transformer, I save about $342. How is that a bad deal?

I buy squaretrade for all my electronics. When I was sporting an Ipad 2 before I saw the green android light I bought the squaretrade warranty because the Best Buy black tie warranty was rediculous expensive. I only had the warranty a week and I dropped my ipad and cracked the screen. Squaretrade send me a box I shipped it the they said they could not fix it and 2 days later they PayPal me the full replacement cost of my ipad.
Keyboard Dock Coverage
Is it possible to cover the keyboard dock and tablet itself in the same coverage and if so how?

I don't know anything about them but they both have physical locations in nyc for pickup (they're both in the Empire State Building so I wonder if they are affiliated).
That's a pretty good deal. Walk in with cash and you only pay them if it is legit. Might be popping by next time I'm in town.

both are run by same people and both don't have them in stock. The next shipment they will get is like 30 phones in 3 weeks. I to saw the amazing prices BUT after doing some basic research - look around the web, just Google them and you'll find out. I, at first hurried to grrab that price, finally caught them yanking my chain.
If you call and ask questions after a while they don't even bother to pick up the phone - however - if you call from a different phone number they'll immediately answer. Once they recognize your voice they promptly hang up and your left talking to air before you realize you've been had!
Presently the best deal is at L2D2.com. They were somewhere in the neighborhood of $753 or so last time I read a post, which was yesterday.They also sell quite a bit of them - so I'm told - so having them in stock may be an issue. If you can wait it out that seems to be the best deal at the moment. You might want to check at Clove.co.uk too. It's around the same price, they have stock, and you get a cool flip-over case with it for free.

Here a week or so ago when I was looking for resellers in the US and ran across Technotradinghouse selling the Note on eBay I e-mailed them because I wanted to know how the Samsung warranty worked purchased through them and I was basically told that buyers are on their own to get warranty from Samsung and that they don't provide the warranty directly.
So that means if you want to cover your device your stuck paying for a third party insurer claim since the Galaxy Note imports have no US warranty and with the cost of a 2 year claim you could of just ordered from an authorized reseller like Handtec or Expansys-USA and gotten the 2 year Samsung coverage through them at no extra cost.
Handtec is also now only $710 shipped so unless someone can find a reputable US reseller selling the Note for $650 or less I see no point in buying an import from anywhere else if your in the USA.

This is good advice.
I am putting Square Trade on it, $124 for drops, spills, and accidental damage.
People need to evaluate the Samsung warranty + import fees and decide what's best for them.

Yeah the additional accidental damage coverage may be important for some if your prone to accidents. But if your in the US there are no import fees for buying the Note from Handtec.

I just received an LTE version (SM-P605) and I am looking into the different protection warranties available. I have seen many mentions of SquareTrade (and it's even available from Amazon), but I haven't seen any mention of NegriCare (sold from Negri Electronics).
I'm looking at the accidental coverage, so it would cover drops, etc.
The NegriCare is a little less expensive, but has a $50 deductible. Does anyone actually have any experience with either?

If you do use Square Trade, definitely get it from Amazon, the prices are much better. ST discount codes can be found easily but the Amazon pricing is still better.
I have the Square trade warranty but can't tell you how good or bad it is since I haven't used it.

I've had two devices totaled and SquareTrade paid each claim within a week. NegriCare is just a white-label product offered through them but underwritten by a third party. Having insurance is only worthwhile if your claim is handled quickly and satisfactorily. That's definitely the case for me and those I know who've dealt with ST but a question mark for whoever Negri's using. Look at the T&C on Negri's site where they offer NegriCare and you should be able to fine the name of the company underwriting the insurance. Check the AM Best site to see their size, rating, and time in business.
P.S. - Never file a claim online with ST. You'll get some sketchy robo-generated answers that can elongate the process. Always file the claim with a human.

NegriCare is serviced through Mack Warranty
I recently had a tablet under warranty with SquareTrade that ended up getting damaged.
I filed the claim online which was rather simple and straightforward. Within a few hours, I received an email stating the claim was received and a 2nd day shipping label was attached. Sent the tablet that night and within a week, the claim was approved for reimbursement of the purchase price of the tablet. I elected to get my funds sent via Paypay (rather than a hard check), and the monies were in my account in a couple days after claim approval. In total, the process from filing claim to having money in Paypal account took a bit under 2 weeks.

I use Ensquared to insure my devices. The good thing is they cover international devices. I made 2 claims on my Galaxy Note 1 and they sent my replacements within 3 days. I have been lucky to get brand new devices each time. They get thier replacement direclty from the manufacture and at times they get them from Negri. they ship them to you overnight at no additioanl charge.

I had a Mack warranty on my old DLP TV that included bulb replacement and had a very pleasant experience with them when I needed a new bulb.
