Ditto. Does everything I need and more. What's the point of updating if nothing changes dramatically...its just a number game?

There are some cool UI changes and the overall experience seems much snappier since I updated to Gingerale (2.3 based ROM). I would recommend checking it out at least, just make a backup and revert if you don't like it But I bet you will.

I'm going to have to agree. Froyo was great to me, but when I jumped to GB... wow. Quicker, looks better and runs smoother. I just got a replacement phone yesterday with 340 on it and I can't believe I actually used it. Tossed 595 on right away But as Schmidty said, you can always roll it back. To each their own, though.
BTW... that Gingerale looks awesome. I'm gonna try it when I get home
Schmidty and Kobalt, is there that much of a diff? New to world of customizing. I do have 2 X's (one on wireless). Maybe I'll give it a try on that one. I'm sure I can find a thread somewhere. You both recommend Gingerale? My real concern is seeing ongoing threads of issues with these various versions of GB (don't know if gingerale falls in that category). But I'm constantly reading and trying to learn more. This damn phone and these forums has created a monster out of me. I tried my buddies original droid yesterday (totally stock). I almost vomited. He's too afraid to do any form of customization or rooting.
You say faster until you actually load it and it includes more crapware and really is barely faster than the custom gb rom you put on the phone.
I'll stick with a rom'd froyo with gingerbread elements in it till a better gb rom comes out.
Do you have a preference serial?

I would way prefer a clean GB install (Cyanogen anyone?), but I haven't seen one for my X that is as stable as .595.
So I will keep my .595 build (rooted and deoxed) until I see something better.
Gingerbread is almost here? Where have you been? I have been running gingerbread for about a month now. The "official" update is just a number
have any of you guys tried Liberty GB? I downloaded the donate version of Liberty Toolbox from the market and installed the Nightly Gingerbread ROM. So far, kinda stable.
Some bugs are:
-Maps crashes sometimes out of the blue
-Calendars won't let you modify or add items
But I have gotten stronger 3g and faster reception, and faster system overall...
Hope to hear a release date of the a final build Liberty GB

I'm in the same boat with the same build. Very happy with it, and not interested in the OTA update, unless .596 is shown to have some wonderful new improvement over .595.
Hey guys i rooted and might of deleted some bloatware do i have to sbf to get it back so that i may get the update
i will be testing the OTA in a few HRS ...now my question is will there be more devs jumping back on board wigh new exciting roms cause i just got this phone 2 days ago and i see no activity and cant even find liverty 2.0 rom or rooting instructions for .340

I just freeze the crapware with Titanium Backup and unfreeze it when it's time to update. Once updated, I freeze it back up again. Worked like a charm for the 2.2 OTA update.
Does anyone know when we can get the release?

I've been browsing around the site lately on which roms are good, which kernels to use, etc. and still I'm a little confused.
I'm pretty new to Droid phones and this is my first. I've rooted my finances Droid 2 just for custom themes, but for my phone I want a little more. Anyone have any suggestions on Roman and kernels to use?
I like the SenseUI, so I'm not really looking to change that, just wanna get more battery life and have remove some of the bloat ware like Skype.

I would recommend Myn's Warm Two Point Two RLS4, or SkyRaider 3.3.3 (or 3.3.4 if you don't want OTA updates ever again). Quality roms right there. If you're going to use Myn's rom, I wouldn't change the kernel that came with it. Runs good for me. For SkyRaider, I would recommend KingKlicks BFS6 kernel, that also ran good for me. To remove bloatware, you can buy root explorer and delete the .apks you don't want, or buy Titanium Backup and uninstall whatever you want. Not sure if you can do that without buying it though, but I would recommend buying it anyways to support the dev. Theres also a way to delete whatever app you want from adb, but I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I believe its rm system/app/whateveryouwant.apk, after you enter su, but I'm not certain. I'm sure a quick Google search would help straighten that out. I hope I helped ya out

I'm running Ziggys kernel made just for RLS4, nice and smooth like butter. I also tried HTCs .17 kernel, but that was on SkyRaider. I seemed to get better battery with Kings BFS6. I'm considering trying chads kernel cause, well, why not? Lol

Speaking of Unrevoked....I dunno if it's just me, but when I try to go to their twitter, it's not showing anymore, but just shows some Blogger site...looks like Twitter got hacked to me. Anyone else see it? Nevermind, found the problem...
Sorry for the double post. Didn't want to re-edit my previous post, as I finally got impatiant with waiting and sucessfully downgraded my SLCD DInc and rooted.
I think I'm going to give Virtous ROM and Kernel a try with SetCPU. I might go wiht Chads Kernel and SkyRaider 3.3.4 eventually, but I figure I'd start out with something more suble with Virtous before going into more modified ROMs and Kernels....at least untill I learn more about it all.
Another question though. What is the benefit of changing the radio, if any? I know that if you flash the wrong one, then you end up with a nice expensive mp3 player that you can't use as a phone, but other than revision numbers, whats the difference with modified radios?

Which one do you think is better? I like them both, but am running Liberty. IMO they are probably the forerunners of the Droid X. No offense to any other dev out there. What's your opinion?
+1 Liberty 1.0

I enjoy fission. FRM is very useful and angdroid pushes out updates and listens to his community on a daily basis. He is a main reason i even considered fission. Its nice to know the developer listens, updates, and supports his followers very often.
liberty for me.
also a cheaper power control widget is: http://www.appbrain.com/app/extended-controls/com.extendedcontrols
I had been on Fission for a while before Liberty. Liberty is probably my favorite (for now) for the same reasons preusstang mentioned. These two have been the only two ROMs that I have ever kept for several days at a time. This may be the dominant ROM until we see a Gingerbread update. Unless Obsidian gets ironed out. *fingers crossed*
im on rubiX focused but i plan on flashing over to liberty tomorrow
I was a fission user, gave this a try minutes after it came out, im hooked! this is the best one yet! the toolbox is killer and the rom is just plain fast... I hav FM radio back too
Also a Fission user for awhile and now on Liberty, and only going to get better. It's on version 1.0, you know Team Liberty is only get better.
The toolbox is awesome and only going to get better with more apps to install. TONS of options. Liberty for me.
+1 Liberty

liberty is awesome and it is only at v1.0!
one more for LIBERTY
I'm also on the LIBERTY wagon. Like most of the people here, I've tried nearly every ROM option for the X and GJAR/LIBERTY are the first that I loved from boot. Fast, Stable and easily customizable with the built-in toolbox are what I feel make LIBERTY the best ROM available now for the X. While the benchmarking apps should really be discounted because they aren't true indicators of performance, I have noticed a bump in scores since coming from other ROM releases to GJAR and even yesterday when I loaded LIBERTY for the first time, the scores went even higher. That's not my reason for liking it more but just something I've looked into and found interesting.
I applaud the work that ALL of the developers/development teams do as it isn't exactly easy peasy to cook up a ROM and make it work flawlessly so they all deserve our respect and thanks. In the same respect, the other ROM releases for the X are great when compared to stock and people like what they like but I feel that LIBERTY is probably going to be the one for me until we get some spicy, sweet GB goodness.
just finished installing liberty and i came from the rubiX rom like i stated before, and im also now HOOKED
this is the best 1st version release ive ever seen, like everyone has said, the toolbox alone makes this rom the best out atm,
this is the beginning of something amazing
I was on Fission for a couple of weeks, thinking of switching back to GummyJar and then Liberty was released. My favorite so far! But I'll always love Fission too.
toss up for me....
though i tend to lean a little more toward things that have been around longer, shown they will continue to do work, and not failed me over time.
Running Liberty right now, the differnce from the stock X is mindblowing.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I've been running the latest RubiX for a while now and recently switched over to Liberty.
Unfortunately, I've had significant issues resulting in the following problems: phone not having any access to the VZW network/not recognizing its own number, unable to get back into CWMod needing to SBF, re-flashing Liberty only to have the phone reboot randomly and then simply turn itself off over and over. And yes, I wiped repeatedly.
All of these issues happened within the first 2 days (obviously). Meanwhile, having switched back to RubiX, it's been running quite smoothly with no issues, whatsoever. Is it as fast? Nope. Is there as much control over the phone? Nope. Does it work without costing me time, effort and missed calls/texts/emails? Yep.
EDIT: Literally no more than 3 minutes after I wrote this I stumbled upon a thread concerning the kernel issue afflicting those that SBF'd the 320 full and then the 340 system files (as I had to do): I was running on the 320 kernel. So, using the TBH files, I updated to the correct kernel and have since re-flashed Liberty. I'm willing to give it another try now that everything's as it should be. It also makes sense that it's running even faster than before.
Ok, So I just switched from the Evo over to my Samsung Epic and Not sure if i made the right move. Not a fan of Eclair(android 2.1) and I have not heard good news about the leaked 2.2 for the epic. P.S Hi new to forum
I would pick a nice 2.1 rom and wait for official Froyo to launch. There are some bugs with DK28 that are annoying as hell when they occur. None of the things that DK28 fixes are absolutely necessary, such as the much improved GPS. GPS still functions on 2.1, just not nearly as well as on Froyo.

I ran syndicaterom for a while. It was very stable and nice. You can also pick a kernel to use in conjunction with whatever rom you use. Stock kernel is very stable obviously, but if you have concerns about battery life or something like that, or feel a need to overclock, there are kernels available that offer that. SyndiateRom comes with the Xtreme kernel if you flash the "Full" release, if I am remembering correctly. It is a very good all around kernel, although Phoenix 1.43 was always the best with regards to battery life for me.

Odin to dk28, one click root, then install bonsai rom and optionally install a theme.
With this setup my GPS works better than it has for any other phone (lock in 5-10 seconds). Flash works, and the system flies. Not many cons that I'm aware of.

Mine is spot on....running EXT4 and custom ROM
If you want working GPS and Flash support in the browser go with a leaked DK28 ROM (ViperROM w/ EXT4 is my personal favorite). GPS is better than ever on Froyo - it actually works now! Extremely well at that... There is a process for going to DK28 and making the GPS happy, as long as you follow that process you'll be in great shape. I really can't think of a reason to be on DI18, unless you need to go into a Sprint store for some reason.

Still overwhelmed, but I like your site's instructions, very thorough, thumbs up for that tip, I still am on stock rooted, but one of these days....at least this site is thorough...
I agree 2.2 is the way to go. The most of the problems on froyo can be pinpointed to a problem installing it. I've flashed froyo plenty of times and if you can get the gps steps down everything should be just fine. if your staying on eclair the overclocked syndicate rom is a beast.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I vote 2.2, I have it and haven't looked back. Its luck of the draw. Some get more bugs then others. I lucked out I guess.
Another vote for 2.2 here. My ROM recommendation is Quantum, it's well-supported and its developer is on top of his game. Some other ROMs include a lot of... gimmicks. Yeah, we'll go with gimmicks. (It slices, it dices, it automagically makes your internets faster!)
In any case, there's no real reason for Android 2.1. The leaked FroYo is stable at this point. If you're getting force closes then it probably means something went wrong during flash. If you can follow instructions then it's not difficult.

I agree, but with root... Root. Freeze bloat. Enjoy.
Depends on how much other stuff the devs have going on. I'd guess about a 2-4 weeks.
I mean, it was just leaked a day or two ago, it's going to take a bit of time.
I hope they come out. The bloatware sucks. LPP FC's for me so I have to use the stock launcher. Moto's gingerbread 'skin' seems weak and unfinished (hence leak I guess).
Love the performance boosts though. Cannot wait to root. I've given up hope for an AOSP DX rom though (Froyo or Gbread).

LPP works flawlessly for me, have you tried the usual thing? Clearing dalvik cache & system cache?
You're not gonna get a *true* ASOP ROM due to the locked bootloader...which is why CyanogenMod isn't on the DX or D2.

i agree with the previous reply. after trying a few gb roms, i also found there is nothing noticeable difference between froyo and gb. froyo is still faster, more stable and have gps.
stay with froyo.

just the same differences when you taste froyo and ginger.
Frodo is a character from Lord of the Rings while Ginger is a character from Gilligan's Island.
Gingerbread is optimized for Hummingbird CPU (SGS) while Froyo is optimized for Snapdragon CPU (N1)
I'm hoping some of the bluetooth quirks are solved.
It's seams my old feature phone did a better job with BT than droid (or iphones)

Also, there seem to be few if any apps coming out requiring GB. That was not the case with Froyo - there were LOTS of changes to the API there and not being able to upgrade meant missing out on new apps. Nothing like that with GB so I don't mind sticking with Froyo for a bit of stability.

ginger doesn't have a soul
slightly. nothing noticeable difference between froyo and gb.
I honestly have to say I have try every single rom posted here in less then 2 months. For last I have seen lots of hype with Ginger CM7 and I went for it.
2 days pass and I downgraded again to Frojo 2.2 since I hated it that ginger, is buggy and there aint much I could do to get it popping like I can do with custom Frojo Roms.
So I will stick with Frojo until Ginger gets the support we have now for Frojo types.
