Tons and kernels? - Droid Incredible General

I've been browsing around the site lately on which roms are good, which kernels to use, etc. and still I'm a little confused.
I'm pretty new to Droid phones and this is my first. I've rooted my finances Droid 2 just for custom themes, but for my phone I want a little more. Anyone have any suggestions on Roman and kernels to use?
I like the SenseUI, so I'm not really looking to change that, just wanna get more battery life and have remove some of the bloat ware like Skype.

I would recommend Myn's Warm Two Point Two RLS4, or SkyRaider 3.3.3 (or 3.3.4 if you don't want OTA updates ever again). Quality roms right there. If you're going to use Myn's rom, I wouldn't change the kernel that came with it. Runs good for me. For SkyRaider, I would recommend KingKlicks BFS6 kernel, that also ran good for me. To remove bloatware, you can buy root explorer and delete the .apks you don't want, or buy Titanium Backup and uninstall whatever you want. Not sure if you can do that without buying it though, but I would recommend buying it anyways to support the dev. Theres also a way to delete whatever app you want from adb, but I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I believe its rm system/app/whateveryouwant.apk, after you enter su, but I'm not certain. I'm sure a quick Google search would help straighten that out. I hope I helped ya out

I'm not sure what your running but i used to use the stock .17 kernel and that was basically perfect and then the new chad kernels are just even better. Haven't tried his .26 yet but the .17 is amazing and really fast.

I'm running Ziggys kernel made just for RLS4, nice and smooth like butter. I also tried HTCs .17 kernel, but that was on SkyRaider. I seemed to get better battery with Kings BFS6. I'm considering trying chads kernel cause, well, why not? Lol

Thank you for the suggestions =)
I'm still waiting on Unrevoked to update their root kit, but getting antsy lol.
Speaking of Unrevoked....I dunno if it's just me, but when I try to go to their twitter, it's not showing anymore, but just shows some Blogger site...looks like Twitter got hacked to me. Anyone else see it? Nevermind, found the problem...

Sorry for the double post. Didn't want to re-edit my previous post, as I finally got impatiant with waiting and sucessfully downgraded my SLCD DInc and rooted.
I think I'm going to give Virtous ROM and Kernel a try with SetCPU. I might go wiht Chads Kernel and SkyRaider 3.3.4 eventually, but I figure I'd start out with something more suble with Virtous before going into more modified ROMs and Kernels....at least untill I learn more about it all.
Another question though. What is the benefit of changing the radio, if any? I know that if you flash the wrong one, then you end up with a nice expensive mp3 player that you can't use as a phone, but other than revision numbers, whats the difference with modified radios?

I also have this same question. Is where a read me anywhere about flashing radios? I've done it on my old Droid but this is my first HTC phone which seems a lot more sensitive. Is the radio version under a different name in the about the phone screen? On my old droid it was called "radio" on the incredible i see nothing of radio anywhere.

I think the radio is labelled under baseband in your settings menu under the software info. Correct me if I'm wrong.

best rom to run?

what would be the best rom to run, what is the most stable and would allow me to stay active on my phone at the same thing as giving me great customizations and battery life? also does any of the roms out there all you to set songs for the notification and messaging/email...
I want to say all around cm7(aosp) is the best rom, but not the most stable at the moment. If you like sense roms id say the best is myns warm 2.2. Second best sense rom is koni's elite III imo.
Download "zedge" for custom ringtones and notifications. (Free in market)
It's honestly up to you to find a rom that works for you.
Everyone is going to tell you the name of a different rom.
As fast as sense roms go, I found that Fresh gave me the most stable experience.
Aosp, I found salvageMod to be more stable than cyanogen mod, but cm is much more customizable.
I personally run Myn's Warm Z

After the most recent cm update, I honestly don't know how any rom could be more stable than that. Everything works and 0 forecloses. To each their own though. I did use Fresh for a while and that seemed to be a pretty quick Sense based rom as well. What is best for me may not be for you. Just do like the rest of us and become a flashaholic
Like bjb said, we all have faves, for different reasons, ymmv.
The two Sense based ones that he mentions are in my sig, and also I've found MikFroyo to be very smooth, good batt life, but pretty much stock look.
Going to an AOSP ROM, or a variant like CM7, can be fun, but be Sure to read all the notes and helpful hints in the first posts for each ROM, they all have their "issues". But often they are worth it for the customizations and tweaking options...
Personally, I am a Sense user, but I ran CM-types on my Hero for a long time, and loved them. The Hero needed them though, to get any real function. The Hero choked on Sense.
But (again, my opinion) I've found Sense based ROMs to be the most stable, and fully "working" (your definition may be different than others) on me Evo. Mainly because the Evo has enough power to actually run it...
blah blah blah...
I have been very impressed with CM7 so far..
CM7 one the top on my list for sure..

That's the best way...flash all the highly spoken ones...try them for a week, make a note to yourself, then continue on, and stick with what you like.
I have tried a lot of rom,(I am addicted to flashing) and with all these roms. there are some shortfalls. I am on HW 0004 and apart form the screen brightness issue, i find that TMartinPPC_EvoGingerSense_v0.1 is very stable and effective. My screen is not thst bright anyway and the battery is good too.
If you look in the EVO developement section, myns rls5, then mikfroyo 4.6 for sense...then CM 7x and miui for aosp are the most popular. Start with those..

There are some cool UI changes and the overall experience seems much snappier since I updated to Gingerale (2.3 based ROM). I would recommend checking it out at least, just make a backup and revert if you don't like it But I bet you will.

I'm going to have to agree. Froyo was great to me, but when I jumped to GB... wow. Quicker, looks better and runs smoother. I just got a replacement phone yesterday with 340 on it and I can't believe I actually used it. Tossed 595 on right away But as Schmidty said, you can always roll it back. To each their own, though.
BTW... that Gingerale looks awesome. I'm gonna try it when I get home
Schmidty and Kobalt, is there that much of a diff? New to world of customizing. I do have 2 X's (one on wireless). Maybe I'll give it a try on that one. I'm sure I can find a thread somewhere. You both recommend Gingerale? My real concern is seeing ongoing threads of issues with these various versions of GB (don't know if gingerale falls in that category). But I'm constantly reading and trying to learn more. This damn phone and these forums has created a monster out of me. I tried my buddies original droid yesterday (totally stock). I almost vomited. He's too afraid to do any form of customization or rooting.
You say faster until you actually load it and it includes more crapware and really is barely faster than the custom gb rom you put on the phone.
I'll stick with a rom'd froyo with gingerbread elements in it till a better gb rom comes out.
Do you have a preference serial?

I would way prefer a clean GB install (Cyanogen anyone?), but I haven't seen one for my X that is as stable as .595.
So I will keep my .595 build (rooted and deoxed) until I see something better.
Gingerbread is almost here? Where have you been? I have been running gingerbread for about a month now. The "official" update is just a number
have any of you guys tried Liberty GB? I downloaded the donate version of Liberty Toolbox from the market and installed the Nightly Gingerbread ROM. So far, kinda stable.
Some bugs are:
-Maps crashes sometimes out of the blue
-Calendars won't let you modify or add items
But I have gotten stronger 3g and faster reception, and faster system overall...
Hope to hear a release date of the a final build Liberty GB

[Q] MyTouch 4G Rooted. What ROMs are good out there?

Hi,
Well, i finally rooted my phone, after 5 dyas of dealing with the things, diferent ways, etc.
Now, I would like to know from you all guys, what ROMs are good out there. What do you all recomend me to try.
I already have Cyanogen on my little old G ( version 6 ) And it looks pretty cool.
Any suggestion? i want a stable ROM where i can Install the apps without problems, or having any kinda of signal problem, or networks ( g, 3G, HSPA) problems
Thanks for your Suggestions!
Daniel
If you like sense, evil d's virtuous fusion. I use to hate sense roms but I've been rockin it as a d'd for a while now. Battery life was horrible at first but with faux's low voltage kernel and juice defender, I've gotten surprisingly good battery life. Sense 3.0 features are elegant and functional. Way faster and stable than any other sense roms I used.
I use royal ginger for aosp Rom. Phenomenal battery life speed and stability.

The point was people can give opinions, but you won't know what works for you until you try it yourself. He/she can listen to a suggestion just to found out they don't like it and flash another.
^^ That should have been obvious without me having to elaborate.
I switched to meXdroid a couple days ago and love it. It's really fast, battery is good looks great and everything works ( except your upside down in the front facing camera) but I can live with that. You can also download it through Rom Manager

ROM Suggestion plz!

Hey XDA,
Its been a long time since I last did anything with my phone. Used to run Baked Snack and some other ROMs that were on here. Got a replacement phone and have just been running stock froyo for the past 6 months or so. I can't believe how many roms there are now for the Epic! None of them look familiar either.
I've been getting an itch to start flashing again. I was hoping to get some suggestions for what I should try next. Are there any good ones that you might recommend? I've been following MIUI for a while but am worried about reliability. As you might guess, a stable rom is most important to me. Battery life, and clean looks are also important. I don't need fancy backgrounds or startup animations. Just something as close to barebones as possible.
Any suggestions will be appreciated--TIA!
Srf 1.2 then flash the genocide 2.0 kernel in the same flash session. I'm sure many will give you this suggestion

SRF 1.2 I use Revolted kernel w/it Sleek...clean...fast...no FCs. Many out there, but I'm stuck on this one. I think they're working on 1.3.
I like Go Green too, just the select menu was hard to read. But it's nice nonetheless. I think I ran that on EH17. SRF is EC05 based.
Anyhow...qbking77 has some great vids on youtube...there you can see how some of them look and work before trying them.

I agree, Simply AOSP v4, and v4.1 will be out this weekend. It has journaling on by default and will flash the kernel automatically
But in all fairness, there really isn't a bad ROM in the Epic forum.
If you want no problems and basic rooted stock then you want either ReRFS ROM or odin in EC05plus.

Gotta say..EC05 with SFR 1.2 and genocide.....i've flashed them all and for me this is the most stable
Whichever you decide, please read through the entire thread for that ROM in Development so you can see what issues might pop up and what was done to resolve them.
Bonsai 4.1.3 has been my go-to ROM. It's as close to perfect as I could imagine, really really stable, great battery life, and overall just reliable. It also does this without replacing your sounds with stupid robot noises, heavy metal guitars, or putting some ridiculous theme on your phone.
You'll have to google "epic 4g bonsai" to find the site, it's not available in the dev forums here.
I like stock for the most part, EH17
Though I have updated to EH17plus kernel

There are lots of roms, and neither are the best. I beleive roms are NEVER stable. They always need to be modified, they always need to meet standards. No best ROM.. Period. But if I were to choose, MIUI would be the best LOOKING but not the best that's working.
its free on amazon..
I always try any rom thats put up because i like new things but im have been sticking with stuff from ERA on EC05 for stability

So far I have used SRF, Reborn, ACS Bambozzled, ERA Viper, and I am currently using Simply AOSP. I have loved each Rom I have used, each have their quirks. Usually the GB runs give me a few headaches... like restoring with titanium screws up my app space, GPS is up and down, etc. I would recommend using an EC05 Rom until things are fully stable with GB (especially CM7 Selfkang), just to save yourself a few headaches.

I've only used a few. Stock, Viper (apocalypse, frozen, and synergy), and urban legend (fury and regen). I'm currently using Urban Regen 1.1.1, with Rodericks genocide 2.0 kernel. Lately, I try to stick with EC05 based ROMs and kernels for their stability and the number of options out there for EC05. I'm relatively new to rooting and flashing so i don't know everything there is to know about it, but I'm learning fast. I'm definitely not new to tech, holding a few IT certifications, a degree in CNT and presently in school working on another degree, so my knowledge of operating systems (especialy linux ) is helping me learn much faster. The best advice i can give you, is to read the forums, ask questions when you can't find an answer (no matter how stupid you think the question is) and to try a little of everything until you find what you like or learn how to do it yourself, lol. There are tons of guides, wikis, and awesome developers who are willing to help you as long as you try your best to help yourself as well. You'll get the occasional put down, or get called a noob, you'll make mistakes and feel dumb, but everyone does so don't worry about it. Just try to remember that pretty much any question you can think of, any problem you run into, and disaster you cause, has probably happened to someone else before and has probably been addressed more than twice on these forums, so do some searching before you just start posting "HELLLLLLP MEEEEEEE!!!" Another piece of advice i can give you, that i did with my first phone, is get a decent size and class sd, read a guide on how to dual boot ROMs (i think theres even an app now that does most of it for you!), root your phone, leave the stock ROM on your phone, flash a good kernel that supports dual booting (check out genocide 2.0). That way, you can try out new ROMs as much as you like and always be able to revert back to stock when you need some stability or if you run into bugs.
Good Luck!

I like (no bias)
Srf 1.2+Genocide 2.0 kernel+ Supercharger scripts

I've been rocking SRF 1.2 for about 3 months now with the Twilight Zone 1.1.1 Kernel. Very stable, no force closes or reboots, GPS locks instantly, over a full day of battery life. I'd stick with EC05 ROMs until the official GB ROMs drop. I've tried a few of the leaked GB roms and none of them have been stable enough to be daily drivers.

Which scripts you running? Just curious, been thinking of flashing back to SRF.
I've been rollin' with IAP Rebirth the past several weeks. Awesome ROM, but I've been getting reboots. Haven't even touched the Supercharger scripts and it's the most responsive ROM I've used.
