I keep seeing this question pop up in every sense rom thread: "Are the MMS blurry?"
Surely, there must be an easy fix for this problem, but after searching I could find no definitive answers. MMS works for some people, supposedly, but MMS hasn't worked on any sense build I have tried on T-Mobile US.
I remember having this same problem on HD2 with Sense Android and only sense. With CM7 builds, one can always change the custom user agent to fix this problem.
Any ideas? I am sure myself and many others would be grateful for any help given.
Cheers!

Changing the Maximum Message Size in the Messaging app settings doesn't work?
Not really a "fix". But I use the Chomp SMS app. MMS works fine, and I like the customization options.

I am looking to replace my text messaging client. Could anyone recommend any replacement messaging software that might work well with sense and CHT?
I cant deal with the stops, starts, and lagging anymore its driving me insane, again.
Without knowing what ROM and messaging client you are using we cannot say for sure what the best option for you is.
However what i will suggest that if you are using HTC messaging you might want to take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700495
It has an updated client that takes care of a lot of the problems you are describing.
If this is not what you are after let us know what ROM and messaging system you are using and we can better help
Regards
Edit: Just re-read the title and see you are using HTC messaging... oops.. I'm tired what can i say.
Hello, I am on MDeejay's rEVOlution 2.2, Kernel 7.6;
I was texting some people and they say android is splitting my text's. I texted myself, and it sends two seperate sms after 154 characters.
My carrier is Vodafone, and has no sms limit.
Anyone silly idea's?
I had the same issue some time ago, but with recieving messages from a friend. think I was using an older Mdeejay Z version. Haven't tested it with the new rEVOlution. But since we are both on VodafoneNL, that might be it. So we'll need input from non Vodafone users.
I now confirmed that even switching to something like 'handcent SMS', an alternate sms app for android - does not fix the issue.
It cuts off the sms after 160 characters, and sents everything after 160c in a seperate sms. Does it again at 320.
I have seen this... I don't recall how I fixed it within the original build (spare parts, maybe). Within the wonderful Handcent app goto settings / sent message settings and you will find the option to 'split sms 160'. Try removing the tick

Thanks for the input, mate.
Anyone else who has a idea on how to fix this in the standard messaging application from Android?

Hi I'm having trouble with this message splitting on my HD2 also. I tried the option you said in Handscent but it was already selected as 'Don't split'.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Yes. I was having this split sms-problem as well. I've tried a lot of things - but none worked.
I have been using different Sense roms (Desire and EVO-based) with the same problem. Then I took the step away from Sense and installed a stock Froyo Rom - HD2ONE. And voila - now my text messages are joined correctly at the receiving end.
But now I'm suffering from the echo-problem... Hope to fix it soon.
Im not sure what you mean right now after reading a couple times the thread.
If what you want is to send a single SMS with more than 160 chars, thats not possible. SMS (SHORT Message Service ) has a limit of 160 chars per message, sometimes a bit less if you carrier adds a signature or something at the end.
What cell phones do, is split SMSs every 160 chars, then send em and the receiving phone join em together again.
The issue might be on the way your Android Build splits the message
Sooooo, if you issue is with spliting, then yeah you can try fixing it using different ROMs, if what you want is sending 160+ SMSs, then I think is not possible

I guess most of us know that an SMS consist of max 160 chars. But most modern phones (from the last decade or so) make this almost invisible to the user, as when the user types more than 160 chars the phone will automatically split the message in two or more sms messages. These 2, 3 or more split text messages will then be rejoined again by the receiving phone.
This is how it should work on all mobile phones, but on different Sense builds on my phone something goes wrong. It seems (only seems) that my android sense phone does the right thing. When I send a message consisting of say 400 chars my phone sends this message to the receiver and it looks absolutely normal. It's invisible to me that the message is split - although I know of course that the phone does that for me. But whoever the receiver is (a nokia, Iphone, or another HTC) they all see my sms as 3 separate sms messages - not joined. I have received many complaints from friends and colleagues because my sms messages will not join on their phone.
The solution for me was to switch to a non sense android build.
Maybe most of the sense builds in this forum is originating from a us version or an asian version where the sms split/join control characters are different from the european ones, and therefore others phone (from europe where I come from) cannot understand it and does not join the messages. I don't know...
But I do know that a stock android build works for me...
And by the way... I figured out the echo-problem by reading Hastarins FAQ.
same problem here on mdj revolution 1.7 and o2 germany
maybe some more people of different builds can test if it's working fine. especially on sense builds!
I don't have this problem here. Just checked with girlfriends phone.

Hi, which revolution build are you using the Desire (Bravo) based one or the Evo based one.
I'm also on O2 UK but have the issue with my build below (the EVO based one).

Using the desire build, have used an Evo build in the past and not been told the sms's were being split.
When I get chance I'll try out his Evo build for you and see how it goes.

Does this problem has been solved ? People's stating to get annoyed by my "multiples SMS" & my no sent SMS (because it's sometimes converted in MMS and I didn't activated MMS on my network - so no sent).
I've noticed that downloading Hancent and removing it has changed the limit up to 160 chars in Sense-SMS.
It will be unfortunate to give up a wonderful Sense ROM because of this issue.
Configuration is :
ROM : Core_Droid_EVO_V0.7_SuperSonic [SD] (but problem occurs on all Sense ROM I tested so far).
Operator : Proximus [Belgium] (I think it's the big problem, 'cause in the changelog of V0.7 said).

I have actually seen this happen to regular Android phones running Sense, or any phone that was natively Android being updated outside of OTA Updates to a newer version (even if stock), so it's not just a porting issue.
Hello all. I have an Htc evo on the boost network. Everything works well. The problem is the mms messaging. When I get an incoming mms message it goes to this website for.boost mobile called media mail. I have to log into the site to get my pictures...its really annoying. I just had an Htc hero flashed the same way and it gets true mms messages right to the phone. Is there a way to fix the boost media mail issue so that the mms messages go diregctly to my Evo?

i have evo on boost and had the same problem. what i did was use root explorer and deleated mms apk and mms odex from system/app, then download go sms from the market, copy that from data/app to system/app and my mms works perfect now. i would suggest downloading android mate from the market, use this to stop and locate the name and where the app is at on your phone before going into root explorer. ps google free root explorer. after placing go sms in your system/ app folder download handcent from market. this is going to be the mms. app that you are going to use to veiw the mms on your phone, turn off all notifications in go sms so that you don't try to open with go sms.
you may need the right apn...i sent them to my friend and it fixed his problems using apn backup/restore
Can you email me your apn because I have calls and sms working but no data or mms please help! Email me at [email protected]
@calvinfla, i did all of u said to do and it doesnt work. still get that 9000 media message from boost. did u do exactly what u said or maybe forgot something? let me know, pls that 9000 message is urrrrrrr.
I believe the MMS server is "mm.myboostmobile.com". The other poster had it as "mm.myboostmobile.sprintpcs.com" I couldn't send or receive until I changed it and it worked right away after I changed the server.
I have changed the server to http://mm.myboostmobile yada yada and still am not able to send MMS. I have received them and data is working, just need the ability to send. Any ideas?
I am on the 1/11/2012 Energy rom with Sense 3.5
That ROM does not have EPST capability. Are you certain you changed the MMS server?
Did you change it on that ROM or did you changed it once and then flashed to that rom? Reason I'm asking is because just because you changed it once doesn't mean it sticks after you flash a few roms or whatever.
If you want to stick with a Sense 3.5 rom and want to send MMS, the only way I've found that would work short of editing code in the Mms.apk (pretty freaking hard and takes some time) is to download GOSMS Pro (free app in the market).
Once you download that app, go to your regular messaging app settings and disable notifications on it. (if not, you'll get double notifications and that gets annoying)
After that, find this setting in GoSMS Pro...
Once you do that, scroll down and put in these settings....reboot and that's it!!
Yep, that's why I asked. It's the only way I know of also on 3.5 Sense Roms. So if you flashed that ROM the MMS server is set for Sprint NOT Boost.

Yeah is been a while since I've been on sense roms BUT last time I was on sense it was a sense 3.5 rom and it was ported over from a GSM phone so it didn't have EPST working. I don't know if that's the case NOW but the way I provided above is a sure bet with ANY rom out there for boost users!
I've heard of people using an old EPST.apk from sense 1.0 or whatever but that's a 50/50.....it never worked for me, hints the reason I'm on AOSP roms now!
Any more tips or whatever for boost...hit me up through PM!!

well, so far so good, I guess I have to use go sms for text/mms if I want to use Sense 3.5.
What are some better rom options? I like this one because most of the features work, didn't discover this until recently and HDMI isn't working but that is about it.

Correct one is http://mm.myboostmobile.com - worked for me great both ways with sense rom and gosmspro on boost mobile.
I have the same issue...
I was running Cyanogen 7 for about 8 months with now issues, everything worked flawlessly, till I flash Stock Rooted Rom 3.30.651.3-deodex-20110712-signed.zip...I just wanted to try something new, you know...well, it didn't go as planned. For some reason my phone got Verizon NAMs files or NV items somehow... or I really didn't pay attention to the ROM...but I have never used Verizon before so that was weird...so I flashed back to 4.54.651.1-deodex-20120104-signed and everything was working just fine after that except battery wasn't that stable...remember I wanted to try something new so I wanted the newest Rooted Stock Rom, so I flashed the 3.30.651.3-deodex-20110712-signed ROM again...everything worked as planned for a day and some, but today I get MSM errors...
"SMS Error
SMS Error: Message to not sent, Saved in Undelivered messages.
Please try again."
I cant get the EPST ##3282# to come up...whats up with that?...so I cant configure MMS URL to http//:mm.myboostmobile.com
Everything else is working just fine though.
This is what I got right now:
Android Ver: 2.3.5
Baseband Ver: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel Ver: 2.6.35.10-g4b48446
Sftware/Build #: 4.67.651.3
PRI Ver: 2.15.003
prl vER: 61007
Any help is greatly appreciated.
All,
Thanks to everyone here for contributing!
Gratitudes extended; I am having issues with any Sense 2.0+ dialer. I think I've read somewhere that because 2.0+ ports for the EVO come from GSM phones that the dialers are somewhat buggy.
I notice that I cannot switch between calls easily, and it is impossible to merge calls. Or at least I must be doing something terribly wrong.
If this is a widely-known issue then I apologize in advance. I did do a search of the EVO forums before posting this.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
Depends what ROM your using, some clearly state mms is broke.
I did find a work around, download the Photobucket app, upload the picture to that then send the direct link to your friend. As far a s receiving, I'd tell someone to email to my gmail. Until the MMS issue is fixed or flash a rom where MMS does work.
Sems to be an issue on Z ports. Calls won't switch over or answer while in another call. I don't think I have seen an official fix. I just let it go to vm and call em back if it happens.

Hello there,
This is my first time posting in forums and I am sorry if this is annoying to anyone. I am trying to find a fix for my MMS and texting over 160 characters. I tried many different methods that were posted in the forums under the roms that I have been flashing and nothing has worked. I am pretty proficient with computers just not with coding and only know basic stuff about terminal emulator IE commands and what have you so if anyone could possibly give me a play by play on how to fix this I would be very greatful.

So no matter which ROM you flash you don't get any texts over 160 OR you are getting them in the wrong order? It could be carrier related.
Sense 3.5 ports have that issue with messages over 160 characters. Can you receive/send pictures, but not able to send/receive long texts?
Use go sms, or use handescent. Use their auto split features and you're set. All sense 3.5 roms and aosp roms have this issue. Except cyanogenmod which has the sms split built in to the apk

I'm not able to receive or send Mms or compose SMS over 160. And yes it happened when I flashed the 3.5 ROM. I didn't have any issues before this. My only problem is that this ROM has everything I have been looking for and I don't want to lose it or go to google voice. I will check out go SMS and thank you guys for your help it is much appreciated =-)
