[?GUIDE?] How I got Google Music Beta on a Canadian Xoom in Canada - Xoom General

Finally, I feel that sheer awesomeness =D
Anyways.. here she is
** I didn't sign up **
THE STEPS I TOOK:
**Note: I don't think this matters but this was a wifi-only Xoom
1) The usual Root process
2) Flashed 3.1 on to my Xoom and changed my Canadian FW to USA FW
3) Sat and Waited
4) Few days later, got the email
5) Went through and signed in like it said to do
6) I figured I wouldn't get far... but I DID.. so when I went to my Xoom no changes took effect.. So I gave up and figured it wouldn't work since my music app stayed the same
7) Few days later, I guess my Music app self updated (because I couldn't get the new one through the market for some very very strange reason)
8) My music app registered and thats the end... I now have Google Music in Canada
NO IP CHANGES NO VPN's or anything.. so for those still trying in Canada ... I am proof that it's possible =D

I'm thinking about Converting my Canadian FW to USA FW to upgrade to 3.1 as well, but am very very confused by the multitude of posts on this site. Could you tell me what you did (and in what order)?

Sure thing... are you rooted and have recovery?
If so
Just follow this --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074609
That's all =D.. Just make sure to skip the Verizon step =D
Best of luck

Thanks. Just switched to the stock US ROM on my UK Xoom. Wonder if I'll get an email!

upgrading to brd's hc Verizon version as per post above did the trick for me. Loaded 5000 songs this weekend. Works well. It also installs google books hc version with access to public domain books. The video app, which is useless when rooted. Us app market version, too, which isn't a huge deal.
To confirm you have the Verizon version, go to App Market > Purchase History > Settings.

Nope, I'm completely stock. What process did you follow for root? Was it this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010568?
Did you have to flash the complete 3.0.1 US Rom first, or did you root your Canadian Rom directly?

Legend28469: When you log in to Market on your PC, then it shows you have a Verizon Xoom, right?
I wonder if i push the build.prop file from Verizon Xoom to my WIFI only, will i also have a Verizon Xoom then?

Switched to the stock US ROM on my UK Xoom.
I am in France so i install langpack5.zip here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083612
I receive the email 2 days after the install. I get google music working fine.
I have also access to the books.
My xoom is recognized as a Xoom Verizon in the web market.

Motorola XOOM users on the Verizon Wireless network: starting tonight, a maintenance release is rolling out to you in phases, so watch for a notification on your device that will tell you when it’s ready for download. The update includes required enhancements to support Adobe® Flash® Player 10.2 (coming soon); it also includes a fix for a bug we identified with Daylight Savings time, so be sure to install it!

how will us with wifi only get this?
Any update is good news at this point I think. I wonder if there is any harm in updating, ie will it remove the ability to root and what not? I wish they would provide more details on what exactly the patch does. Also, it clearly says on the Verizon network, what about those not on it and are only on wifi?

MY droid always popped up updates even when I was only on wifi. I imagine we'll all get it or someone will post the update.zip anyway.
I'm curious if the Tegra 2 versions of flash (10.1) floating around will have something to interact with, and start functioning. They have with everything else. As soon as I get the OTA (no 3G), I have a folder full of them in my Dropbox.

Question of the day. No dialer :/
yesssssssssssss
Glad to see an update but there is nothing listed to get excited about except a possible problem with the upcoming daylight savings time switch. Who cares about the flash update since it does not actually include it. But this will be a good test run to see how the updates are sent out and applied.
Cann't wait for the update to start

You can force a check by rebooting. Not the best method, but it works.
Why do unlocked xooms need to get relocked?
I understand why you need to be on stock boot.img but i don't understand why you need to have the device relocked to get the update.
It makes no sense.

According to the system update tab this didn't happen in 3 reboots since the announcement. Still last check at 5:20. Really want to see if any of the 10.1 Tegra versions work after this. I've been frantic to have Flash lately (PlayOn/Netflix).

It might have a minimum time between checkins. Mine said 9:20am, then showed current time for last checkin when I rebooted.
So would it be fair to say that those of us who have rooted should wait until this update is released to see if in fact we really do need to revert back to stock/locked condition? Because I'd really be pissed if we had to lose all of the data on our Xooms just for this update, when very few of us have actually changed anything with the boot.img, etc. I mean back when I first rooted my N1 but before I flashed custom ROMs, I never had to wipe back to stock to receive OTA updates, so why would that be the case here??

Reports coming in that Xoom Wifi owners have received the updates today!

Hey Xoomers! It appears that wifi-only xoom owners are also having the updates pushed to their tabs also! I have not received it yet, but be patient, looks like all Xooms are being updated!
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/380602#380602
could be an accident. looks like people over there are getting silenced about the update
From the sounds of it, this was meant to go out to their preview members only. I guess someone jumped the gun and didn't bother to let them know they weren't supposed to talk about it.
Which is only a guess, since the corporate rep on the forums has been very vague - only a single post with a "maybe" and then a bunch of posts insisting that people who have stated they got an update check their email.
I wonder if Motorola has really internalized the fact that there are, like, four or five other vendors for these tablets coming out in the next few months - many of them with very, very similar hardware. Not communicating with their tech-savvy audience seems like a poor way to convince people to recommend their tablet over others.
They need to share this ****!!!

not only in usa
also reported in my country
Seems moto launch a experiment
This is pretty disappointing. The update obviously exists and works on the wifi xoom but google won't release it yet probably just to make Verizon happy.
Are people really going to go out and buy 3g xooms just because the update on Verizon came first.

Hmm Being in Denmark and having purchased a US Xoom Wifi I wonder what to do. (Stock 3.0)
So I did the following ...
Added a VPN tunnel to USA. (had previosly brought VPN access)
Set the date 1 day back, to let the Xoom look for updates.
" no cigar! "
Set the date 1 day forward (today´s date)
Still no luck -
I wonder if the update is really rolling out
Can Anyone confirm Xoom Wifi is really getting 3.1 right now ?
Is there Anyway to "push" it - (besides the date change procedure)
Have a good one

Read the Guide thread, all information is there, including a link to how to make a host cable. If something is still unclear, then just ask.
Not according to my conversation with Motorola today. Can you buy a wi-fi only from Verizon? Just wondering if those are still branded differently and that's why they're getting updates.
For now 32GB is plenty for me so I'm not exactly screaming for the SD card update. But I will be a little disappointed if I have to wait weeks for my update when Verizon got theirs already. There were several items in the list below that I was really hoping to take advantage of. I'm not exactly crying over the update just yet though, because I'd rather do the official OTA update than download directly like others have been doing. However, I will pre-qualify all this with...the rep I spoke with didn't seem to be the most knowlegable and appeared to be reading from a script based on the responses I was given to some other questions I asked. So take this with a grain of salt.
Ann: Motorola XOOM with Wi-Fi tablets and other variants of Motorola XOOM will receive the update within the next several weeks.
frost: will this update include the sd card support?
Ann: It does not.
frost: will that fix be implemented any time in the near future?
Ann: It's enhancements are:
● Enables movie services including Android Market Movie Rental via full HDCP / DRM support
● Enables support for full Adobe Flash 10.2 release
● Picture Transfer Protocol Feature Support
● Bluetooth(R) support in Gtalk
● Bluetooth(R) mouse support along with further Bluetooth(R) headset support
● Adding Proxy support for Wi-Fi network
● Resizable widgets
● Additional shortcut key support for Bluetooth keyboard
Ann: Yes. A future software upgrade will enable the SD card.
So I've changed my Date & Time and still haven't recieved my 3.1 Update for my Wifi Xoom.
Any suggestions....???? (Besides being patient...... just can't do that....)

3.1 update on non US wifi Xoom?

Has anyone manually updated to 3.1 on a non us wifi xoom? I am running stock without any modifications I have a Japan xoom model mz604. The process seems pretty simple but I want to confirm others got it working before I risk bricking mine.
Xoom Updated with the Latest Android 3.1 support, but only for Verizon version.
The update details of Xoom Android 3.1:
● Support for movie rental function of Android electronic market, streaming movies to big screen devices with HDMI;
● fully supports the Adobe Flash Player 10.2;
● Recustomized the Widget of Xoom;
● support for connecting multiple USB devices, including mouse, keyboard, joystick and digital cameras;
● support for using bluetooth headset on Google Talk, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and using shortcut keys;

Just got the Google Videos app on my UK wifi xoom updated to US 3.1 rom. Really very annoying that we can't use videos in the UK yet. Is there any way around it? Through a proxy perhaps? The irony is that to get most proxy apps to work you need root, which is another thing that prevents use of Google Videos.
Hmm what if you had some sort of vpn connection to the US? Just a thought... Oh well, movies are the least of the worries

Yes, it is possible and I have done so myself using brd's rom. I had an HK Xoom which is now US 3.1, rooted and with access to the sdcard and it feels a lot responsive than stock. The market app even sees my Xoom as a US Verizon Xoom thus allowing me access to apps ordinarily unavailable to users in my region.

considered wiping my xoom and setting it back to the UK 3.2 image - but then thought if i stick it out on the US 3.2 image then i'll probably get ICS 3 months quicker than the UK...

Why on earth do the 3G's (who paid more for their devices too!) get the updates after the standard Xooms? It's a ridiculous situation - it's not as if Moto don't know the difference between the two and can't create the update for both at the same time! GRRRR

I don't get upgrades on time and most of uk banks charge for all market purchases (£1.25 on top for overseas transactions) - not like there is anything interesting to look for anyway (most of apps look and operate like s..t).
I wanted to buy something else then Apple and I ended up with clunky, laggy, buggy, overpriced (£570) prototype of a tablet. Now value dropped 50% and all truth came out - it's just ipad-wannabe.
(also I barely managed to write down this rant because of stupid keyboard lag...).
ICS? I'm tired of waiting. Google can't even release one simple upgrade on time... I'll wait for iPad 3 instead and I promise you that - I will have it before ICS upgrade. At least Apple is always on time with their stuff.
I know this is for the UK 3.2 but it's looking good for AUS - I really hope this resolves the Tiamat market issue!

you can get the update but you are going to brick your device into reboot hell if you do. you need to go back to stock and apply the update properly and then you can reroot it.
and yes going back to stock via the odin file will wipe your device clean including the internal storage.
I wonder how long it will take to get a manual download. I am really looking forward to this update and it hasn't hit my Tab yet.
I walked in my office one day a week ago and my Verizon Tab 10.1 was in the middle of downloading an update. I knew one was coming so I assumed this was it so I just left it alone and walked out. 4 hours later it was still downloading so I figure it was hung up. I cycled power and it rebooted with the same 3.1 and when I checked for updates it said none available.
I have a stock 3.1 unrooted GT10.1 4G LTE. If it ever shows up again I'll repost.
Has anyone gotten this update yet? I switched out my wifi only tab for this one. I should have looked at the lack of development on this one first I guess, but it is nice to have 4g when you need it. I am on sprint for my phone with no 4g coverage and I am amazed at the speeds I get with Verizon LTE 4g. Also the wifi on this tab seems to be a bit stronger. Could just be my imagination but it seems to hold a connection better
I got the update but have a slew of issues. Wifi will not get IP address you have to static Auto rotation will not work and no USB storage. I also noticed the camera will not work at random times until I reboot same thing with games and apps. Thinking about using odin3 and restoring to 3.1

This is what happened on Friday I installed CMW wrong and tab wouldn't boot so I installed http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7718-romleakodineg01-factory-stock-odin-image-vzw-lte-tab-101/ got it back on first boot it asked me to update to 3.1 so I did and rebooted then it asked to update to 3.2 and I did thats when everything went wrong... I called VZW support and they stated that I should not have received any updated yet.... So I just did the above again and this time I checked and it is 3.1 I did receive another message about an update only 11mb so I updated and reboot. Right now I am on 3.1 and I have not been notified to update. I really do not know why it updated me to 3.2 but I know whatever happened 3.2 didn't work well at all.....
That is weird about the 3.2. I had a wifi only tab with 3.2 and it ran well. I wanted the 4g/3g option so I decided to go with verizon. I will say between the two the verizon tab seems to be better overall. Better wifi signal, There is not much on the dev side but hopefully that will change over time.

I'm going to chalk up your problems as tinkering gone wrong as you're the only person having these issues, so far. The update, in general, seems to be stable!
Did you get the update from Verizon or flash the leak
Sent from my SCH-I905 using XDA App

Ok, so you were prompted for the EL01 official update from verizon? So that means it's being sent out correct? I have not been prompted and I have been checking system update many times a day and nothing. When did this happen? And if anyone reading this gets prompted for the update, can you please choose "install later" and then with some kind of file manager go into /cache and look for the update file, that's usually where it's stored until you choose to install it. If it's not there please look around for it maybe on the virtual sd card. When you find it please copy it and pull it and post it please. Thank you very much.
Meh

No, I haven't received the update yet, but according to people that have gotten it on Android Central, it is running well.
Has anyone got this yet?

Not me, I am returning this tablet tomorrow and getting the wifi only version. If this is how Verizon handles updates I want no part of it, plus 30 dollars for 2 gig of data is outrageous.
This update is not rolling out.
