I can't seem to find where to set HTTP/Socks proxy settings for applications using WIFI networking on my Xperia. Basically I'd like to do this so I can use Pandora here in Hong Kong.
Any ideas?
i asked this question before >.> no one answered ;P
Not sure but wouldnt that be dependant on your carrier. might need to look your carriers website
in opera u could try setting them manualy with "opera:config" as URL
never tried it

There's no way you can connect through a proxy with your AP. The connection with the AP (wireless connection) is established directly. If you want to use a proxy when you're connected to the wifi, it is up to the application that you use for browsing/do the networking.
For windows there's Proxycap,..etc., apps that "proxyfies" anything. I don't know if there's one for WM.
There's PUTTY for WM (ssl tunneling software), bot i don't know if this is useful for you.
According to the SE tech support, it is not possible to set up a proxy through WiFi. You need to use a browser that you can enter your proxy setting into, such as SkyFire. That is the only way I have been able to get it working.
Hi!
I've searched nearly the entire internet to find something maching my problem, but i can't find anything.
My Problem is, that Vodafone Germany has got a limitation of usable Ports in some of their Dataplans. That means that i can only use port 80 and 443 through their Proxy server. For Browsing and webmailing this is ok, but if i want to use the market or Wikitude or ShopSavvy for example i need a Wlan to access the internet with this apps.
I logged the Wlantraffic and found out, that most apps are communicating over port 80 and 443. Their not using the Vodafone Proxy because i always get an connection error when i am trying to use it over the cellular network.
So the big main question is: How can i force the apps to use the defined Proxy Server, the browser is allready using?
I need no Username or password for it. Just adress and port.
Is there a way to reroute all traffic through this proxy? Is there an app to set a global proxy? (Not the ones out in the market to set a browser proxy, because they are really only for the browser)
It would be so nice if someone has an idea, because i am looking for weeks now to use the phone on the go with all its extras!
T-Mobile G1 with -Cupcake 1.5 orig. non rooted-
SirPhunk
PS: Previously i had a Windows Mobile 6.1 Device and everything was working fine, because all apps were using the proxy server i set in the connection settings.
I search that for a long time too!
I'm in china.I get on Internet use a wap gateway which is called cmwap that only open 80 port.
Now I set proxy from APN setting that could only makes browser to go,but all the other apps couldn't .
I tried gnu http-tunnel in Debian, but that need for a hts the http-tunnel server.
I don't know if I can use something for the Android apps.
My idea was to set a manual route to route all traffic that runs over port 80 and 443 to the vodafone Proxy, but to do that i have to root my phone, and i don't want to do that because i wouldn't loose my warranty.
Maybe there are possibilities in Android 1.5 that came out.
It would be fine if some "Pros" could make an answer.
Necroposting much?
if you just want to bypass the limitation of http proxy, then it's possibile using openvpn over http proxy
openvpn in tcp mode allow client to connect to server through an http proxy.just setup an openvpn server use tcp mode, and install openvpn on your android phone and configure it to use the proxy provided by your isp, that's all.

You can do PPTP vpn if u need to, web proxy is so last century..
There's no wifi proxy baked into android. This makes it useless for most enterprise networks, I.e. you can't use an android with a radius server for enterprise WPA authentication and proxy. Apparently we might be getting it in gingerbread.
If you look in the general android discussion there's a kludge that kinda works.
Your other option is to get an iPhone, ios has had support for wifi proxy/ enterprise wpa from the get go.
I know, it's ridiculous, blame Google...
Sent from my ZX81.
On my ELM (j10i2) there is proxy in wifi settings.
And i often USE IT.
In our organization network with proxy.
I'm set my book into wifi spot - and use internet by phone wifi.

Is it possible to do on X8 ?
It won't work if you are connecting via ad-hoc. You may install connectify to your laptop and use that internet connection for your x8/whatever phone/device.
wifi
Isn't any app that can help up with the proxy settings?
I am beginning to get sick of this phone and this OS, no wifi proxy, no way to install to SD card except of hundreds of steps, google navi doesn't work, get's stucked at the beginning, exagerated price for unlocking...
Try custom Rom.. floyo has proxy in settings
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
As I see you posted in this thread Racht, I ask you how to configure an OpenVPN in Floyo.
Do I have to install something ?
I tried with a .conf file but I don't know where to put the .ca certificate.
I also tried to install OpenVPN config.
Have you got a link to a good tutorial ?
Thanks.
hi, please u check for ASProxy from market, it works for me.. but it is paid version.. and required rooted device only..
I thought about a custom rom, but it seems I couldn't find a stable one here, all have bugs with either bluetooth, camera or gps, and maybe I am too blind to find an xrecovery link to download it.Do you have a link with a good rom? Thanks in advance

Hi, I like the title, the company's wifi bind, the appropriate version of the opera to the Internet can be accessed using a proxy. But, unable to establish a wifi connection with Google Play or widgwets. Could you share the solution if there is?
thanks...
Use proxydroid. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.proxydroid&hl=en
doesn't work
Hi, this program doesn't work properly and i learned how to using ics with proxy but it doesn't work too. (in wifi menu, press wifi and manuel conf.) it's connecting AP but google play, ics default browser and WIDGETS don't runings. it doesn't ask me for proxy user name and password.
Do not nobody that can use this way?
A similar situation to try those behind the proxy, please?
thanks,
any solutions or idea?
Read my post. It works for me. This is how I do it at my work. Market and everything works.
One of the limitation of non-rooted Android devices is not being able to handle network proxy in non HTTP aware (basically web browser) applications. As an example, there is an option to set Wi-Fi proxy address and port in Network Settings. Browsers do respect such proxies. However, other apps, e.g. WhatsApp, GMail, Play Store; are completely unaware of network proxies. Hence, it imposes a severe limitation.
I am behind my university proxy using basic authentication. I use an Wi-Fi router to connect to their network. To remediate, I thought of creating another Wi-Fi hotspot using Virtual Wifi Hotspot or something similar. But there should be some mechanism so that connecting to this hotspot need NOT require a proxy setting. To elaborate, apps connecting to this hotspot must be completely unaware of proxy through which traffic is being routed. Does anybody have any idea on implementing this?
You can try Drony or SandroProxy

With these apps, programs that respect android OS proxy settings will work. I couldn't make any apps other than browsers work with this technique.
My phone connects to virtual hotspot but unable to browse, download etc.
I connected my lenovo a 516 thru wifi using virtual router and a wifi dongle on my pc.. The wifi connection is established sucessfully but i can't use internet, no data is received.
tried with another phone, same outcome.
tried several network and sharing settings posted online, no fruit..
I am not an expert in networking, so can't figure out where's the problem on my own.
please help..
This is what my connections look like, after creating hotspot using virtual router..(in the attachements)
