Do you by any chance mean dalvik-cache? I'm asking coz dalvik-cache is recreated.
BTW check /data/btips dir to see how big is btips_log.txt and btips_log.txt.prev. You can remove these two.

You don't need it. CM 6.1 supports installing apps to the SD natively. No need to worry about a2sd.

Yes, that is how I do it. You can also set the default location to SD for new apps that you load.

Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the dalvik cache still set to be stored on the internal memory by default, and using a2sd(which is what I do) the only way to move it to the sd card.
After every flash, I reinstall a2sd from clockwork, then load the build of CM6 I just updated, then go to terminal and run:
su -> a2sd cachesd(then phone reboots and the dalvik cache flag is signaled to be stored on sdext instead of internal storage.
and then to be safe I usually run "a2sd repair".
Is there an easier, more reliable, stable, blah blah way of moving dalvik to sd, and ensure all installed apps are stored on sd instead of internally? Right now i have about 70 apps installed, and have 166mb free internal memory left. And everything is very fast and snappy. I have no problems using a2sd. it seems to be working perfectly for me.
So could someone tell me if there is a better way of achieving what I am already achieving, without using a2sd? Thanks

I tried to find the a2sd but could not find it, would u be kind to guide me to it =)
I have a big problem with OS. For about two days sometimes it's getting extreme lag and then shows such FC message: Activity GoLauncher EX (e.g.) is not responding. Battery getting really hot and drains down extremely fast. what could be causing such behaviour? The phone is completely unusable because of this issue.
Oh, one thing - the problem disappear when I remove SD card. But Every app I have is stored on the phone. Also I didn't install anything new for a few days.
Oh f... Wrong forum Could someone move it to the general forum?
Thats really weird, which rom are you using?

Your SDCard is incompatible with your phone. Try to change the SDCard.

That's not right.
Just delete Android (maybe .android_secure too) folder in the root of the sdcard, if it doesn't solve the problem wipe cache and dalvik cache in CWM with the sdcard inserted.

If this doesn't solve your problem, like me, try to replace the SDCard.
I flashed the CM7 Epicmtd selfkang 12/13 build today and i am noticing that certain apps that i have purchased and free ones as well give me an error "insufficient space on the phone" i am attaching a screenshot of it. I checked the internal storage at its indicating i have 433mb of free space. Can you anyone help? I wiped data / cache and dalvik 3x prior of flashing this build. The ROM I was using before was cm7 Epic selfkang 11/24 build (BML).
Your phone has very limited space for app storage. You need to either delete unused apps or move whichever apps that will go to the sd card.

No. I know what your problem is now. You have pieces of those apps still on your phone causing that error. It happened to me with the ebay app and youtube. You need to use root explorer to search your phone storage for any filename with the name of the app. For example youtube. You may find files like com.android.youtube. or simiiliar. You will need to delete those remnants and then you should be good.

Thanks for info, but still a no go. I deleted all the files associated with the app using root explorer till the built in search didn't turn up any results. I read a post from another user with this ROM having trouble installing apps larger than the size of the cache partition, so I'm guessing that could be it. Just unsure....
Sent from my Epic MTD CM7
Yeah bro... the cache partition is where Market tries to put the download and if you are on current CM7 MTD your cache is 25MB total. That's a no go for some apps on the market. You can see your cache size and free space by running df -h in term emulator.
You can:
1. Restore app with Ti if you had it installed before and backed up in Ti
2. Wait for next version of CM7 MTD and hope cache partition is bigger (would require a fresh CM7 install as it will redo partitions (eg fdisk'ing will wipe them clean))
3. Go back to non MTD ROM and get app installed and backed up with Ti so you can restore it once you go back onto CM7 MTD

Thanks for the confirmation, I will do the steps you provided for the apps I really can't live without haha. Hope the next build has more space than 25mb in the cache.

I'm sure it'll be adjusted, seems like I've heard the 25MB Cache partition was more proof of concept. But I'm not one of the devs so take it with a grain of salt
I found another work around. If you could get a hold of the apk, then it'll install.
I used my wife's phone to download Frontline Commando, pulled it with Total Commander (or your favorite file explorer) and copied it over. It installed fine.
The file was 27.## MB.
Sneezy is right, that will work if you have a spare device.

Search the forums, its been answered, there is a file in the system you need to delete..
Try sdmaid from market. It deletes tombstones, duplicate files, clears cache, etc.. . It's called sdmaid but mostly works cleaning the internal memory. Is only a couple of bucks for the pro.
It's /data/tombstones that above post referred to. Any root file manager will let you delete the folder contents manually.

Try the AutoKiller app from the android market, I'm using it and it works great. You can set it to free up the memory on custom intervals.
Regards,
I don't move apps to SD.
I have 50 MB internal space.
I uninstall opera mobile then reinstall the same opera mobile and now I am missing 5 MB!
If I keep doing this I will have no space left regardless of what I install uninstall.
What the hell is going on?
The only way to recover my space is to initialize to factory settings.
wiping cache in clock work mod & dalvik cache does not recover.

When I upgrade to other ROMs the music player has intermittent issues with audio buzzing freezing like sound and my reason for sticking with this ROM

Hmmm.... Have you tried just starting from scratch and repartitioning? I have flashed a million times and have never had this happen or heard of it......

I had an issue with this building roms kept on frying my sdcards, u might want to take the data , i mean all the contents when plugged into pc as backup also have the back up of the current rom thru recovery and put into a folder...for ex ..HTC ONE X BACKUP, then do a format wipe, factory reset. I use 4ext. Then put all files back and restore the back up in recovery
Thanks guys. Not working for me, but I brought myself to closure from the perception that my current setup works and is light years ahead of windows. Just need to resist temptation with market apps.
Just use native sd roms...faster than nand with no problem of space....who wants nand?...it is for windows.wm/wp
