Is there any downside to changing the build.prop for Netflix?
Does it mess anything else up otherwise?
Just curious.
I don't know the answer to this, but I'm assuming that's where you use ES File Explorer/Root Explorer, correct? Because I am attempting to use ES File Explorer and am coming up with problems. Any chance you could help?

I have Netflix running on 2 NC's, and have not seen where the build.prop change has messed with anything else, yet!
But the testing during use continues with each new app, so who really knows?

That's actually the video I was watching when I ran into problems...I figured it out now (it just magically started working for some reason), but I used that guy's videos to get CM7 on my NC and now get Netflix.

I dont recall activating KINOMA PLAYER to open or view my pics. I dont want to use that program because i cant assign a pic to the background. I used to be able to just open a pic and assign it to whatever i wanted and i could adjust the brightness etc, etc. Can someone please help!!!
i just uninstalled it
if you want to watch youtube videos on it download the youtube app by going to m.youtube.com you dont need that client
and everything else just goes through the default clients after its unintalled, videos play in WMP and pictures come up in that stock screen

I used Resco file explorer to solve this prob (I had the same thing happening). Open Resco file explorer, navigate to a pic file (usually .jpg), tap and hold, choose "open with" and then select the program you want. Check the box "always use this program" and you are set.

I am sure there is. You would have to edit the registry. However, I have no clue what key to edit, so cannot help you further. Sorry.
The new version allows you to choose which file associations you want - so the problem has been solved. Thanks Kinoma!

I was thanking them because the new version allows you to change associations. That's obviously a good thing and I'm glad they did it.
People complained and they listened, isn't that how it's supposed to
work?

I just did the same. I cant even get my video to play right. Anyone have any advise? Not looking to purchase this. Downloaded a FLV file that wont play and no audio. I'll stick with windows player....
Go into "Get Apps" and download "Advanced Settings." From there you can easily change your file associations.
Hi, the galaxy s has a beautiful screen and a powerful graphic card. It will be a waste if viewing video in normal or lower quality. However, when loading from youtube, the default video mode is normal quality, and it's quite troublesome to change the mode every time. Anyone knows the way to change the default to high quality?
Sent from my GT-I9000
download this youtube addon and install it on your phone.
it will enable a "HQ" button next to the play/pause buttons in the lower right corner of the display.
i think this also enables playing videos in HQ everytime you start playing a video, but I can't test this since I'm waiting for a replacement SGS.

If you google youtubehd.apk you'll see a lot of results that suggest people are ripping the EVO 4G's youtube app and putting it on their phones. I'm not the original poster, but will assume that's where this is from before I hear otherwise.
I wish I'd thought of ripping the various apps off my EVO 4G before returning it to Sprint for a refund.

Thank you for this.
It looks like an official app.
Why do not google update this like the other apps?
it doesn't work for me.. it won't let me open saying it's not an authorized app from market..or something
here :
YouTube v1.6.19e.apk woks great on my desire & Galaxy s

thanks for the reply, but i'm getting the same message.
when i try to launch the file using ASTRO, it says install blocked, and says for security reasons, its set to block installation of apps not sourced in market..
Go to settings then applications -then click unknown sources, should work after that
ahhh i dont see unknown sources.. whats happening!!
sorry to be a bother
Well there is the HD button and it's defaulted on HD in JP3 firmware.. That suggest it will be so in the future official release too.

What phone do you have? The Captivate has had that removed from it. You can still install with adb or a sideloader app, I believe.
Just updated the firmware - and still this is needed. Thank you again!
However, it seems to default to normal quality, when on 3g network. I wish I could force it to hd/hq all the time?
I apologize if this has come up before, I did search and didn't find anything. I'm looking for a tool that I can remotely control my phone via my windows desktop. I use my phone all day at work listening to music, etc...
I've downloaded the latest release of screencast, and am able to see my phones screen, but no keyboard/mouse input is working so I still have to control the phone from the screen on the phone.
It appears that other people are having the same issue with this app. Anyone got the screencast app working properly on the vibrant or have any other suggestions for different apps?
Thanks,
Jeremiah
What do you mean you downloaded the lastest version of Screencast? I dont see an app called Screencast in the market, only an app that accesses ScreenCast Online videos called ScreenCastsOnline.

Yep, device is rooted, other people are having the same issue. there are some work arounds other's are using, but didn't work for me. I just tried out vnc server for android and that worked ok, but no landscape mode. And I have to wake up my phone from the screen after it went out to be able to do anything with it, which defeats the purpose for me.
I guess I'll keep searching, the vncserver for android is pretty sweet though.
Been trying to get this, and droid explorer to work all day, with very little luck :/
Hello all, I am new here so I'm sorry if I am ignorent of anything
I have an Iconia tab, and have been patiently for the netflix app to be released. Well it finally seems like it has been done here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
My problem is when I download the apk and try to open it I get the error ''cannot open file''.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Download the apk with Firefox mobile or your desktop PC instead of the default browser. AFAIK, streaming still doesn't work for us, just queue management.
Its not working on the acer yet.
Edit: ninja'd
I think I read somewhere it's a Honeycomb issue, not just an Acer issue.
the device check disabled apk asks you to upgrade to the latest version on the market (which doesn't exist on our device), and the non-check disabled version will let you browse, but if you try to play a video it pops an error saying the device is not supported.
Hopefully we'll get something that works in the near future. Netflix claims to be working on other devices and it looked like tablets were on the list as well.
Thanks everyone for your answers. Any chance we can keep this thread going as an update to everyone wondering when netflix will be brought over so users do not have to scour the web in search of the answer?
Just a bit of a noob question, but what about changing your build.prop?
If I understand correctly, that requires root, and I do not want do downgrade to gingerbread.
Yup..

I have heard of doing this and am pretty sure root is required.
Such a shame Netflix has not gotten it together for us yet - this screen rocks as a movie player!

I have my acer rooted, but not well enough it seems. I still run honeycomb, and in fact still get firmware updates from acer. I rooted it so I can setup my two 1tb external hard drives to it lol. just used gingerbreak and a couple other things post root. However, i did try and edit the build.prop but wont allow me to save, just read only. I havent messed with it extensively, but seems like there should be a way.

If you use root explorer it will let you mount the file system read-write so you can edit the file.
Alright guys I am not sure if it has been tested but when I get home. I have the lib files that fixed the playback issue on sense 3.0 I will install the deactive device check version and push the lib Files It may actually work!! I just tested on another device that had playback issues worked flawlessly!! Ill let you guys know in like 2 hours or so when I get home.
Right on!
Crsdr37 - sounds promising! Let us know how it goes - since Netflix is totally dragging on getting their software working. My girlfriend's mother uses a HTC Evo 4 from Sprint - netflix support has been broken for weeks for them, and the OTA patch they tried to push out did not work. Total fustercluck

Would be most grateful! Take your time, I am out of classes today and girlfriend is working - got all day to geek out
i am very excited to find out on this
Alright guys so after dismantling netflix.apk the latest version the issue is within one of the files called nrdp.js Think of it as the gate keeper to our netflix enjoyment. It checks certain areas of the device here is the list we need to bypass to get the rsa key injected into our devices for access to the netflix servers.
1.Get Model
2.Get Software Version
3.Get Certification Version
4.Get ESN
5.Get ESN Prefix
Those are all the functions it calls for device checking. That I could find. There is also a certificate file ca.pem that controls how long the app works for before you have to get new certificate that is encrypted up the ass so big roadblock..... Sorry I tried and will continue to try but it does not look good... Damn those large companies with their big sticks.
Installed but error connecting after selecting a vid
I have an stock iconia with 3.1 and tonight I installed the apk mentioned in this article:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...neycomb-devices-and-possibly-most-phones-too/
App runs but when I select a vid I get:
"Sorry, we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later. If the problems persists please visit the Netflix website (12001)."
Anyone else getting this? Any workarounds?

Has anyone found a way to change the default docking app from nemo? I have tried removing it, replacing nemoplayer.apk with my custom apk..nothing works that i have found? Is there a system variable somewhere maybe that could be changed? If so, how where possibly might it be and also, is there a way to search all the files for a string of text (ie. nemoplayer)?

Not sure why you're calling nemo player a docking app, but I can assure you it's one of the first apps I rip out of all my ROMs, or it'll be constantly running as a background app.
In other words, it's safe to rip that [email protected] right out!
crap
Yeah, i hate that its on there but the problem is that when i hook my a100 into the dock i have mounted into my truck, nemo player automatically opens up. I want to try and get rid of nemo and have it open my own dock app, however there is no way to do this. I have been poking through files and narrowed it down to this file "/system/bin/dock_utility"...it is what is called on when it is plugged into the dock, however im no expert and i dont really know how to view/edit this file to change it to my needs. Anyone know?
Ahhh gotcha! That kind of dock lol
Just rip out the apk and odex and reboot.
?
not sure i follow...i have tried taking the apk off and when i hook it up nothing happens. When I replaced the apk with the apk i want to use and rename it to nemoplayer.apk in the system..it still doesnt do anything. What do you mean by rip and odex? Not sure what odex is..

Anyway, did you find a solution yet? I am not quite sure yet how Android processes/binaries call each other. Maybe a class needs to be renamed inside the apk?
Thanks...
