App to disable 4G connection??? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This has frustrated me to no end. Does anybody know if there is an app that will switch from HSPDA to 2g? Preferably one I can set to a schedule? The WiFi calling app is the only one that seems to do this flawlessly, however it requires a WiFi connection.
When I am at work I do not use my phone for anything except phone calls and my calendar, so I do not have any need for 4 or even 3g coverage... And my phone just drains battery trying to establish these connections.
I've tried using APNdroid but it just force closes my phone process.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I'm running elite sense 2.6 if that matters at all.

So you want to keep 2g (edge) or no data whatsoever?

Google IM Client

Hey guys. I've had my Aria since it launched and today was the first time I tried using the IM app that comes with the phone. I turned on my wifi and tried logging on. It gives me a message saying a network error has occurred. Then I switch over to 3G and I'm able to log on no problem. Anyone else encounter this problem?

I tried logging on to my old AIM account over WIFI and it kept saying that server error or something. Don't have data so can't test it. But it seems like it won't work over WiFI.
tested on two rooted Aria's and home wiFi, works fine
I also have the same problem...the messaging app does not work when on wifi and it works just fine on 3g.
--edit--
Although I should qualify this...I'm talking about the "IM" app, which is made by HTC. The Google Talk application works correctly for me.
This is correct, "IM" is mobile network only. Google talk should work on either.

Data and Voice at same time on Samsung Vibrant

Has anyone had success in being on the phone using voice, and browsing the internet, using data, at the same time on the Samsung Vibrant, with T-Mobile?
I was able to perform this most of the time with my HTC HD2, with T-Mobile.
I searched, and can't really find an exact answer.
It worked but i was using wifi

Yeah, mine probably works on Wifi, but I am talking about mobile data, such as 3G. My HD2 did this most of the time.
If you are on 3G then yes you can.
This really only works well with a fairly strong 3G signal. Otherwise you may drop to 2G during the call and only be able to access data over wifi.
It works for me some times. Each
time I try I get different results some slow some fast or not at all. I am in the same place so its not my location. Its odd u was tempted to post a similar question.

Yes, I can use google maps, drive my car, and talk on the bluetooth all at the same time. The Vibrant works great. Only when it drops to Edge speeds, then ya lose the google maps, but the call keeps going.
Mine works as well, I've had my laptop tethered several times downloading large files, and answer a call and it keeps downloading no problem. I haven't noticed if if it's just a 2g/3g thing though as it usually stays on 3g for me most of the time.
I have no probelm doing voice and data both wifi and 3g.
wtf is up with ppl and the HD2.....

Do you guys leave this on or off? I left it on always on my HTC hero but it did drain the battery faster... its found in the wireless networks / mobile networks setting...

Yeah i'm a little confused too. Does this have to be checked to get the gmail pushed?
Yeah, I leave mine on unless I'm using wifi calling, in which case I can use wifi for data. You can turn it off if you wanna save battery life tho. It obviously means you can't use anything that uses data, like texts, emails, internet, maybe calls even.

why would this affect txts and calls? it isn't airplane mode...
If you uncheck mobile networks, then its pretty much airplane mode. If you'd like to save battery, then you can set the Network Mode to GSM only and uncheck the "always on mobile data" Will save quite a bit
-Cheers
EDIT: Apologies. The always on mobile data keeps a pretty constant connection with the network so downloading can happen faster. Since the connection to the network is already on and active, a download can be plopped in quite fast. It is unnecessary for data connections, but is helpful
FYI I just unchecked it and tested my GMAIL and I still get my e-mails pushed. Lets hope I get better battery life.
You will simply see a larger delay when you request the phone to pull data... also push services MAY function and may not...
You may only get gmail when you pick up your phone and use the data some other way... at which point the phone opens up the data connection and any information can flow over data.
I would doubt that the push server will be able to signal the phone to turn on data, so it may check periodically or only catch the push command if you have your data pipe open already (as described above).

Trick phone into thinking it's on wifi.

Is there a way I can trick my phone into thinking it on wifi when it's not?
I want to be able to make skype calls when I'm on the road.

I don't know how to trick phone, but I am on verizon's skype, the one with white icon, not blue, well, it allows to make skype calls without Wi-Fi by default.
Oh, I was using the other one. Thank you very much sir.

Google skype hack for android. This is a version somebody moded so it works on either wifi and/or 3g, so you are always on. I have it and works like a charm.

Are you on mobile data or wifi?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
yeah i tried using both wifi and my 4g data but it still doesnt work
If you have more than one APN, is the right one checked?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
oddly, I was having this issue today as well. I was connected to wifi with data enabled, but I couldnt send/receive multimedia messages. I tried toggling on and off the data and wifi, but still the same results. I then wiped cache+dalvik then fixed permissions, rebooted and all is good now. the picture(s) were around 1MB each in size, so it seemed kinda weird that they wouldnt go through
