Hi All,
Thank you for reading my post.
I am a Xoom 3G user in Viet Nam. I can't use 3G EVDO by Sfone in Viet Nam. Do you have any tutorial that help me use 3G in Viet Nam.
THank you so much.
Hi there vietnamese fellow, I have no idea how to get a cdma device to work in vietnam. I can only give you advice to contact www.tinhte.com site. They should know what you're talking about since they have a xoom too. See if they can help ya.
Good luck.

There isn't a direct way to use the xoom that I know of. You can have several workarounds though.
Use a phone that works on 3g in vietnam with wifi hotspot capability. You see where I'm going?
Similarly, just use the xoom where there is wifi I'm afraid.
I'd love to help you out with this as I'm bringing my xoom with me to vietnam next year, but this is completely out of everyone's hands

Is sfone using cdma network? I think so. Idk if this is any sort of help. But reading this might help

Do you have any idea of how to crack out the problems with 3G in Viet Nam, I mean just point out who do I have to ask for help in this world for using 3G EVDO in Viet Nam with Xoom?
Which are the step to go through our 3G CDMA case in Viet Nam because there are too little expert using Xoom in Viet nam for us to get help with this case while we dont know Motorola have official support for the Xoom user in Viet Nam or not. How sad.
As my knowledge, we only can send SMS, phone call, but no 3G can be used. This dramatically drop the user of Xoom, and lack of expert in this field who can help us in Viet Nam.
No 3g for cmda on vietnam, only 1x cmda. If you wanted anything faster in this region then gsm is your only option.

Could you explain me why cant we use 3G in Viet nam because 1x CDMA? Because according to the XOOM specification the net work also 1x CDMA? ( cant attach link because new user dont allow to post link when post below 8.
Sounds like you need to do more research on your question. For starter you dont even know the difference between 3g and 1x. Know and understand the question(s) you want to ask so it would be easier for people to help you.
Just because you buy a street car that can top @ 180mph doesn't mean that you will get those results on dirt roads.

Sorry friend for my noob. But some other phone in Viet Nam can have 3G with the SFONE network except for XOOM.
Ok, what cmda ev-do rev. does sfone support? This is what im talking about. Just because the xoom support a spec doesnt mean all service providers globally support the same thing.

Hi you again,
According to my opinion SFONE is using CDMA EVDO Rev0, however no confirmation by the operator that they use RevA/B.
This is the link that use Motorola Xoom to call to a phone in Viet nam.

And this is the link for known-3g-confifg in Viet nam but no success.

You seriously want to make a phone call using the xoom? No offense, just wondering.
But isn't the second link what you were looking for?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
No, according to the second link, no 3G used. It was quite inconvenience to use xoom without 3G for sometimes. The first link is just giving addition information of what the xoom community in Viet nam has discovered/test/try.... When posting these links, I hope that it will reduce time for you to help noobs like us in using xoom.
Back to what I first stated, no 3g using cdma in vietnam. I may be wrong or this could change in the future but as for now unless your provider is using rev.a or b your data will use the same stream as voice...dial up speed or slower. Best of luck in your research. Advise, tether using a gsm device.

It seems that the Xoom is too modern for the CDMA network in Viet Nam.
In addition, do you have some background book for the CDMA? I just need to read further on CDMA Rev0, RevA, RevB... to see how it is different.

Sound good to have a thread here to discuss how to active 3G internet connection for Xoom 3G Verizon version in Vietnam. I look forward to hearing more about from you guys who can help us to deal with that.

Hey,
I'm from Israel and wondering if the HTC EVO 4G will work on old Orange 3G Network in Israel.
I'm currently using HTC Dream in Orange but I want to replace it with the new HTC EVO.
I didn't find the EVO's network specs beside the fact that it 3G competible :-(
Thanks in advance!
It won't work on your network..evo 4g use cdma technology meaning no sim card so were out of luck if only htc make a gsm version
Thanks for your answare mate.
I'll think I'll take the Desire instead
Will it work on pelephone?
it will not work anywhere in the world except for sprint in the USA right now. it is a cdma phone, which is only USA with verizon and sprint. and its 4g is wimax, which is only sprint in the US. so no, it wont work anywhere else but usa.
anybody know about the verizon samsung charge or htc thunderbolt being able to be unlocked and used in israel?
I don't think so. The US has a different network type than the rest of the world.
Otherwise I'd maybe have had the Evo 4G instead of the X10 and maybe the Evo 3D instead of my Arc. Well, maybe not, I liked my X10 and like my Arc And I'm a se fanboy.

this is very strange and i may need your help here.
i am using the Sprint htc evo 4G in israel.
based on the device i am connecting to data roaming of 3G network which is GSM network and not CDMA... why??
also i am not able to place a call or send sms, again the data roaming is fine and i can browse the internet just fine.
much to my surprise CDMA is actually available in more places than I thought.
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3504_7-6253284-5.html
Says in here there are many countries that a Verizon handset will work in, one of them being Israel.
Not sure about Sprint though.
gents,
i have an unlocked MyTouch, but i'm using it on russian Beeline network and i get no 3G. GPRS works fine and 3g icon showed up ones when i was setting up GPRS, but it never since came up.
I know for sure that provider supports it. Any thing I can do?
is there a way to check locked status of the phone?
thanks

Are you sure the network uses the same 3G frequencies as t-mobile? There are different sets of frequencies for 3G. For example, the ones t-mobile uses are different than most US providers.
If it works on your network at all then the phone is indeed unlocked.
is it possible to tweak with frequencies maybe at the rom level or are they hard coded?

It is most likely the radio can not transmit at any other frequencies (hardware limitation). Even if it were possible, you would need to be able modify the radio firmware to make it happen.
happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts.....
thanks
Unfortunately you won't be able to get 3G outside of T-Mobile as I am pretty sure no other company uses 1700/2100 for 3G, even outside the US.

Actually, i'm using it on a regional US carrier that uses the same frequency, and at least one provider in Canada uses it as well. I would guess there may be a few others.
Edit: WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, and Videotron in Canada use the same as t-mobile.
Well since your not using tmobile as the provider your problem is you don't have the correct apn settings for your provider you can google them or ask your provider for the apn settings.

no, my GPRS works fine, it's 3G i was talking about.
Are you sure your provider uses the same spectrum as tmobile it goes from 1700-1799/2100-2199 that's a broad spectrum if you know what I mean.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Well, they probably don't, but as was mentioned by falken98, it is possible to modify radio firmware to make it work for other 3G provider.
Do guys here in development do that kind of mods?
It doesn't have to do with the firmware its hardcoded on the chip.

Hey xda
I just won the motorola atrix (being sent to me soon) from CrunchGear's weekend give away
http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2011/02/25/weekend-giveaway-rebtel-wants-you-to-have-a-motorola-atrix/
and as I will be using it in Australia on Vodafone, is there any chance that I will run into problems with signing up for motoblur without an AT&T sim? The person from Rebtel is happy to post it to me and said that it will be sent within the next few days, he also specifically asked in a separate email for the name of the carrier that I will be using with it (hopefully that means the phone will arrive unlocked when I said that I will be using it with vodafone AUS)
any tips or problems that you think I should be aware about/concerned about (specifically motoblur)?
Thanks in advance
- Adrian
I am in sydney myself and the Atrix is compatible with most networks, including nextG
you will have to get an unlock code for it tough.
the most reliable one so far it seems is cellunlock.net I have ordered two codes from there myself. I have not got them yet, but other users on XDA have and posted screenshots of successfull unlock. Check the Q&A section of the forum.

voda use the 900 mhz for their rural network and since the atrix 4g has the 850 band be careful. though you should have no problem in the metropolitan areas.

thanks for this. Very helpful I live in Melbourne, to be vague, in this area: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...7.86076,145.238743&spn=0.071423,0.110378&z=13
so I was wondering if you knew any further details about the coverage? 99% of the time I'm on 3G on my HTC Trophy and it automatically switches to H when using data on the internet.
EDIT: Just found out that voda is creating an 850MHz network in my area that's due to be completed by June/July.. thats helpful
Hey All
I am in the US for a week for work and picked up a Xoom..Loving it done the unlock and root all good. Now for the 3g it asks for verizon activation for data. Is there a way yet to use a UK sim in the future or will it just be a wifi model.
Thanks in advance

Apparently it'll be wifi only for you in the UK

Not AFAIK. The 3g US Xoom uses the CDMA network which is sim free, whereas the UK like SA for me uses the GSM network. So unless the radio devices are swapped out I doubt that even the geniuses here can't change that. I've also bought one from the States and will be using it purely as a WI-Fi model.
The US 3G version is for use only on CDMA networks, we use GSM here in the UK so unfortunately your 3G won't work here. You probably would have been better off just getting a wifi only here. I know the price is the same, $800 is roughly £500. But you wouldn't have to buy a power converter and if there are any issues with it you could take back to the shop, you won't be able to do that now without shipping back to the US.
I'm going to the US in May and decided against buying there for the very reasons above. Although if I were to buy a wifi only there it would only cost me about £310...!
Hello everyone
i just bought a brand new samsung infuse locked to at&t. I got it unlocked to use it with tmobile.i am currently using mytouch4g. i am able to use infuse after unlocking with tmobile but can not get 4g data speed on infuse.it only gives me EDGE speed
is there any setting out here that i can use that will give me 4g speed on samsung infuse using tmobile sim just like i get with mytouch4g. and i want to use it with tmobile USA.
please help
thanks in advance

EDGE is 4G on AT&T. just kidding
I would check what you have it set to under phone options, dail *#*#4636#*#*, and check what band you have selected, as well as correct APN settings.
ATT's 4G bands are not the same at T-Mobile's 4G bands. Wont work no way no how.
@ chris it says gsm/wcdma auto(prl)
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
AT&T is using 1900 MHz (850 MHz in some markets) for 3G. T-Mobile will use 1700 MHz for download and 2100 MHz for upload or pretend I didn't say anything and keep trying something that isn't doable. that's your call
like jay says it doesn't have the correct network band antennas,
just sell it, new smartphones are coming out weekly.
and 4G is gimmicky, best of luck,
Thank you so much guys for trying to help. Do you guys think if root my phone and install custom rom. Is there any chance of getting 4g speed then?

it's a hardware limitation
check the APNs. I got an Atrix and my downloads on HSPA+ were between 2 and 3. Then I changed the APNs, they had 4 options. THen I got 5-7 downloads. Thats the closest to 4G you'll get on ATT

Are you sure it's not just the amount of traffic in your area?
Here in NYC, i've hit anywhere from 1.5Mbps down all the way up to 6+Mbps down

if yes do you mind sharing your apn settings.
i get good 4g speed with mytouch 4g which is tmobile branded device.

I hate to burst your bubble but there is no way you are going to get the AT&T device to work on T-Mobile's 3G, nevermind "4G"/HSPA. Sorry.
right... It has to do with the phone and the hardware... aka - the stuff they build the phone with. Its like if you try to use a phone to receive xm radio frequencies... it's not going to work... If you have a phone with the ATT bands they will NEVER work the same on Tmobile. But you can get Edge on any GSM network. Hope this helps. Search for att cellular bands on Google and compare them with Tmobile cellular bands.
Sorry to say it but the guys are correct! ALL of the AT&T 4G phone are quad band GSM phones! They work on the 850/1900 frequencies for all data and communication purposes in the USA! T-Mobile uses 1700! So basically you should have done a little more homework before you ran out and spent all that money!
If you are lucky you can still sell it and maybe get your money back!
