I use the native email client that would come with default android devices on my droid x to get exchange support. This worked fine under 2.2 and 2.1 when the device first came out. The only issue I've run in to is pressing the settings button from within the application causes it to force close. Is anyone else running this combination? Any recommendations on where to grab a new email.apk? I tried pulling the one from cyanogen mod 7, which is where I got the old one from.
I am running .595 I use the stock corporate synch function, works perfectly with my Exchange server including pushing email.

Ok, with my company's Exchange email, I find that the email settings work fine on devices like the HTC hero, Droid Eris, Aria, EVO...but does not authenticate on the N1.
On 2.1 I was using the "Work Email" app from the G1 found at nexeo.net. Worked 100% perfect for push with my company's email. Email only.
Now on Froyo that app does not work at all, wont even open. Force Close instantly. Understandable, its an old app, not supported anymore.
Question is...is there a way to get the HTC sense email app only on my N1? i dont want to root or anything or run any other rom. I like the new 2.2 froyo.
or would I be better off buying an app like Touchdown? or are there other apps I do not know about that may solve my problem?
Thanks in advance.
From my understanding, you use the email application. You can use it for pop / imap and Exchange ActiveSync.
not with my company's server settings, they work just fine on the HTC branded devices listed above, but not in the N1 email application.
You can try Touchdown, its a paid app but seems to work well with Exchange. I used it for a while and it offers a lot more features than the built-in Exchange support in Eclair and Froyo.
If I could sync more than 1 month of email in Froyo and actually store it on the device, then I wouldn't need a 3rd party app for my setup.
i have heard Touchdown is a quality option.
so is it unrealistic to think that the HTC email apk can be ported to the N1 without rooting, roms, etc etc?

I also use Touchdown. It works very well with my company's exchange server. I had a small issue with Touchdown after the recent FRF85B upgrade. I notified Nitrodesk (touchdown) and they pushed out an update that corrected the problem later that same day (yesterday as a matter of fact). Can't ask for better support than that.
I also have used Touchdown in the past, it was a great app. I'm now using the stock Froyo exchange support, because i prefer the smaller 2 column google calendar widget over the huge touchdown widget.
When setting up my exchange settings in Froyo on the N1, i did notice that the autoconfigure did not work at all. I had to manually enter just about every username/domain/hostname while configuring it to get it to work.
MotoGAL and MotoCAl
The new Froyo email program works perfectly for me on Exchange server 2007 However my old standby - the Droid motogal and motocal applications fail completely.
This is especially irritating as there is no equivalent of motogal under froyo. i.e. it it allows me to search for email addresses from the GAL - but I can't look up phone numbers, post address, dept etc etc - which I also need.
Anyone know how to fix motogal for use under Froyo?
(The combined calender function in Froyo is quite cool - but I still need an exchange GAL browser app)
i wish the froyo email app worked with my company. maybe there is something different i dont know.
so lets say i work for a company called "BetterBuy"
in the HTC Sense email app all I need is:
server: sync.betterbuy.com
domain: NA
and then my login info, and its all good.
in the Froyo N1 email app its set up as follows:
domain\username:
server:
no matter what i put in it doesn not authenticate.
For domain\username, use: \yourusername
Works for me.
no go here. idealy i want the HTC sense email app since i know it works...last resort will be buying Touchdown.
Morning all,
In the stock Froyo I found that Exchange push email was not working reliably. There were alot of postings on the Moto forum, as well as other forums. I myself saw this problem in the middle of the day, where I had to manually sync to get my new Exchange email, rather than it showing up via push and then being notified. This is a huge problem for me.
Now that I have moved to the 591 release of Gbread I was wondering if this issue still exists, or has it been resolved. If not then how are you getting around this huge problem?
Thanks,
Steve
Steve,
I have a newer Droid, build 340...I have not experienced the lack of pushing Email while stock.
I did download a couple of apps that seemed to interfere, I rooted and installed a ROM Manager (for task management), this caused my Email to quit syncing, but my calender was fine (very odd), to fix this I removed all of my information in my corporate synch account and then re-entered it and all has been well since.
I'm not sure if this is the same problem you are having but this was my experience.
Hi All,
I'm currently running DESIRE HD V14*GINGER 2.3.4_Sense&HoneyComB by boyppc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062881 (first post), but I can't seem to get my job's Exchange account added. I've tried the stock Mail app, and I've also tried the trial version of Touchdown (Exchange for Android 2.x), but to no avail.
Previously, I was running a FroYo ROM by darkstone, but I couldn't get my exchange account synchronized then, either.
I don't think it's a setting on the server here, because I spoke to the server admin, and they were working with me to get it synchronized, but no matter what setting they changed, it still wouldn't work.
I've seen some chatter around the forum about using a different Email.apk, and things like that, but I'm not sure if that even really applies to my situation, or if there's something else that I could do to try to get it working.
Any help? Please??
Hi,
Just updated to 3.1 yet the Asus email app still will not show inline or embedded images in emails. It saves them as attachments.
Things i have tried
Sent the email from exchange to my gmail and viewed. Images will show
downloaded 3rd party app "Touchdown" Images will show"
when i click show pictures, images still won't load.
tried deleting my account and reloading it.. Nothing
updated from 3.01 to 3.1 and still nothing
Im running out of things to test as to how to fix this. This has to be a decent issue because it should affect everyone that uses the standard email app on honeycomb for exchange should be having this problem and if not can you think of anything you have done to fix it or that would be different to my setup.
Items to note:
My exchange account is on 2007
using stock ROM not rooted
I got the Honeycomb 3.1 update this morning and my first expectation was the email client got fixed! It was not. I'm kind of sad/dissapointed.
The email client still does not display the embedded pictures correctly.
I have 2 Exchange accounts, and the strange thing (from my own setup here), one of them actually works displaying the embedded pictures after the 3.1 upgrade.
The other one still does not work.
I believe the one that works is an Exchange 2003 account. The one that does not work is either Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 account. But I know its newer Exchange for sure.
Previously both did not work. So, they did fix something, but not all.
GMail client works great, no issue with the embedded image.
The other issue the email client still has, and not fixed, is that it still stops working after the tablet loses its connectivity for certain period of time. When the connection is established again, the email client will stop working and simply shows the spinning circle without any ending or fetch any new emails.
After the 3.1 upgrade, the same issue is still there... sad...
Its dissapointing in many ways because i bought this tablet for work purposes and the most essential iteam on the tablet fails to function correctly.
Its obviously able to be fixed because other email clients like touchdown dont have this problem. The reason i dont want to use touchdown is that i should not pay 20 bucks for the priverlage of this issue being fixed. Also thw stock widgets are much betterthan touchdowns.
Yes. Highly disappointing. May return this piece. I know Asus and their updates. Worse than Samsung.
Update? Why?
I really like the idea of the asus transformer, i did not want to get an ipad2 but when the simple things dont work the way they should it gets frustrating. Its not like the emailapp is re inventing the wheel. How can third party apps get it right but not ASUS.
Even my htc desire using htc mail works fine and show inline pictures without fuss.
don't be mad with Asus. The email client is Honeycomb built in native email client.
The one Asus built in only the home screen wigdet (that shows the number of unread emails).
What is the difference between the stock email client and third party email clients that make ebedded images work?
I noticed a issues log on google android website that this issue has been going on since 2008.
If google want to provide a os thats geared to business to steal market share from RIM you would think that something as simple as fixing this would be some kind of a priority.
Spoke with Asus. They were able to replicate the issue with their own exchange accounts. All they said was they don't control how the stock email client works nor can change it and it would be up to Google to fix it.
Android issue since before android was android:

I have my Shift synced up with my work's Exchange server via the Mail app. For the most part everything works fine as I'm able to receive and send emails without much issue. However, when I try and access an email that has already been opened, I frequently find that a particular email is no longer showing up on my phone. My phone is set up to sync the past 14 days of emails and a fair amount of emails that were received well within that window sometimes won't show up. For instance, 13 of the 32 emails I received on July 5th (the last of the 14-day window) aren't on my phone but are accessible through my Outlook software of through OWA.
I tried searching online elsewhere and it seems this particular problem only affects HTC phones. Has anyone else experienced this or even better, has anyone found a solution?
I was having an issue with the HTC mail app not deleting messages from hotmail so they would keep coming back as new notifications to my phone which is apparently a known issue in the gingerbread release. To fix it I installed the stock android email app and didn't have any issues after that. Unfortunately, if you use a mail widget it will not work with any other mail app.
I used the Email.apk from the original post on the link below here and disabled notifications for the sense email app so I wouldn't get two for each email(I also may have deleted the stock email after awhile I don't remember):

My phone is rooted and at the time I was running the mikshifted g executive rom. I have no idea if you can install this .apk on a non-rooted device if you aren't rooted but you could try. You just download it and install it like any non-market app.
