Hi,
I was wondering if a Xoom bought in Germany could connect to the internet in the US. I am very close to buying one but I would like to be able to use it in the US, too. Is this possible?
Offtopic: Do they sell prepaid SIM cards in the US to use with that German Xoom tablet?
cheers

im a huge fan of the hd2 and since i saw it and i cant wait to get my hands on that awesome device. i was thinking to buy it from USA T-mobile when it releases but i have a little promblem since im from South America (Paraguay) and i just want to buy the phone without any plan! so this is my doubt! do you guys know if it is posible to buy only the phone whithout any data, voice, sms plans or u necesary have ti get a data plan to buy the phone?? or is there a way to get like a prepaid plan so there's no montly bill..
any sugestions??
also does anyone know if there's a way to unlock it so i can use it with my operator sim here in paraguay??
Thanks!! (sorry for my bad english)
I have been in Paraguay
Anyway, yes you can buy it without any plans. Just do a google search, as I remember you're on the same bands as Europe...
If the bands are the same as europe, a t-mobile USA hd2 won't work on 3G in paraguay

thanks for such a fast response!! could u be more specifict please?? i know i can buy it from amazon so i get le unlocked version but my dubout was especifically with the us t-mobile version. i want this one because of the price and also bacause it cames with an 16gb microsd card. but in tmo web page it says that you need a data plan with that device and you have to choose betwen even more plan or even more plus plan o somethig like that, so it confuses me
only the telestra version works with the 3g in paraguay but the price is very high so i wont get that one! it's betwen the european version or the us version, i dont mind if the 3g wont work
You have to verify which bands you use in Brazil. I have never had a problem with my phones in Brazil, but I'm not certain enough to guarantee that it will work. But find out which bands are used and then compare it to the phone you want to buy...
Hi, I was just wondering if this will work in the uk, I am on T-Mobile network but the phone is not "BRANDED" if that makes any difference....cheers in advance.
I couldn't get it to work in the UK.
Hey Everyone,
So I live in Germany but I will be visiting the USA for Thanksgiving weekend. I am contemplating buying the Tab for $550 at Best Buy on black Friday. So if I find it worth it, should I get the Sprint or T-Mobile one? Or can I even use either of them unlocked so I can use 3G with my German Fonic SIM card (I think it uses the O2 networks)?
Thanks
T-Mobile US and AT&T are your only options. You will have to SIM unlock them.
Sprint and Verizon use their own wireless transmission protocol that is, with a few exceptions, incompatible with the rest of the world. In particular, no SIM card
The biggest issue you will find is the lack of phone functionality on the US models.
You should however be able to flash a Euro firmware, and it's quite likely that you get both phone and 3G data on a European network. I couldn't definitively state that this is the case though!
Caveat Emptor!
Regards,
Dave
OK, so you think I would be able to get T-Mobile version, and it should work with the 3G connections in Europe? And if so, can I easily unlock it and put in my SIM card as I have done with other American smartphones I use here?
Thanks
I think you're better of getting the AT&T Tab since it will have the UMTS 850, 1900, 2100 bands, EU uses the 2100, you will have to flash the eu rom on it though... Wait, the TMO Tab also has 2100... IDK someone will have to chime in...
Here's a comparison of the US models and the international Tab:

You might double check.... cus based on my local store and the best buy website... they are only selling Verizon and Sprint tabs... I don't think the will be selling Tmos, according to a Best Buys rep.
But of course Tmo should have them in stock...
If the standard Euro Tab is available in your airport departure lounge, you should be able to pick one up on your outward bound journey VAT free. It might still be more expensive than a US one, but not by much (assuming they are priced similarly to the UK) and would probably be a better bet all round.

Dave

as O2 are going to be running a 4G trial in the UK - has anyone heard/do you think that the Xoom 3G may get an update like the US does for 4G networks?
Interesting. I didn't know that O2 were doing that!
I don't think, however, that Moto would plan anything based on a trial of 4G from one UK network. That's not to say that it wouldn't be possible to upgrade it in future, I just don't think it'll happen very soon.
Been looking around for some info on the UK version of the XOOM and was hoping someone would be able to help out.
1. Is the 3G version of the XOOM going to be locked, like the US one, or would I be able to import it to Sweden and use it with any of our 3G providers?
2. When is it being released?
3. Is there any stores/webstores in the UK that delivers/ships outside of the UK?

I'm also thinking of buying a Xoom 3G version from UK.
1. You can buy a sim free Xoom from the US also, but it won't work in our 3G (UMTS) networks, because they have the CDMA version in US. The European version should work just fine if you buy it sim free.
2. I have read it should ship on 9 April.
3. I have not found one. As far as i know, there is only one shop that will be selling the 3G version sim free and it only offers shipping to UK (but that's not a problem for me, as i have a friend there).
o2 Tweeted it last night:
We're the only people trialling a live 4G network in UK - our six sites can carry as much traffic as an entire national 3G network #asko2

The test was completed in november 2009; it would be strange to run a test for a new spectrum when the bidding is already completed

I think in this instance a test and a trial are two separate things. O2 already successfuly tested a connection but are now going to run a trial, which will probably involve real punters getting involved.
i want to buy an unlocked xoom 3G w/wifi but only if i'll be able to use the 3 g in france as well as here in the 'states. it LOOKS like sfr is going to be ok - but when ? and what about orange ? my french is shaky and so their sites don't help me . : (
any suggestions where to check ?
I'm guessing you will be buying a gsm Xoom from Europe? Because Orange is a gsm network.
The Xoom sold in the USA is cdma running on Verizon and will not run on gsm networks?
Is that what you are asking about? I'm a little confused bro!

re: xooming n france
nope, what i want to buy is an unlocked xoom mz601 32gb 3g w/wifi tablet -which i believe works with GSM networks - but i'm trying to find out whether it will work on FRENCH GSM networks. NO mention of motorola tablets on either orange or sfr.
ps btw i'm not a guy, just an out-of-her-depth chick !
thanks for you help...
