so we are not getting 2.3.4 now, we will have to wait at least a month to get a new update? i remember people updating the phone only a week after release, and thats around one month ago...
crap! i thought we will have it alot sooner!! the 2.3.4 worked flawlessly on my nexus!!

Will this update come as OTA too? I dont want to use SEUS and re-install everything (apps, games) again.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Xperia Play gets Android 2.3.3 upgrade and deep Facebook features next week
By Mat Smith on Thursday, 19th May 2011
(UPDATE: A spokesperson has been in contact to tell us that it will actually be Android 2.3.3 coming to the Xperia devices next week.)
We’ve just come back from a presentation with Sony Ericsson, who said that the very latest edition of Android, fixing those pesky security issues, will arrive alongside the new Facebook inside Xperia features announced last month.
Both the Xperia Arc and Xperia Play will get updated to Android 2.3.4 2.3.3 (still called Gingerbread), and gain the new deeper Facebook integration next week. (Providing UK phone networks have okayed the update.)
Facebook inside Xperia will add a handful of new features to Xperia handsets. Liking music currently playing on your phone will send an update to your Facebook feed, which can be clicked through for more information via Sony Ericsson's TrackID, whilst photos can be uploaded and now downloaded and kept on your phone.
Your Facebook calendar will also sync to the phone, and your Google account, meaning we’ll have no excuse for missing birthdays ever again.
Contacts on your phone can also be more deeply connected to Facebook profiles, and you’ll be able to see their status updates, interests, and more.
Calum MacDougall, Head of Web Service Partnerships at Sony Ericsson told us that Facebook inside Xperia was not about making a ”Facebook phone” but “enriching the experience” of using the phone alongside Facebook’s features.
MacDougall also said that these embedded Facebook features would be an ongoing project- but that it would focus on Sony Ericsson’s strength in entertainment, and vowed they wouldn't look to replicate features that already worked well on the original Facebook app.
Any Facebook-phobes will be glad to hear that these Facebook features can be switched off, either individually, or all-together, although we're waiting to hear back from Sony Ericsson on how much space your giant Facebook photo library will take on the phone.
Facebook inside Xperia will come to all future Xperia models, and all phones released so far this year. Expect to find the new features on Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, and Xperia Mini Pro later this year.

Will all that Facebook crap bloat the software and bog down the phone?
Currently using stock Rogers and it runs so smooth I'd hate to see S.E take a backwards step to how they have got the SEXPlay performing currently.

How I understand it (I think it was mentioned in a comment on FB or inside a tweet), you can disable all the facebook features. Besides, as we have root, we can probably just remove those added apps.

I would love gtalk with audio and video. Love to delete off vtok.

I had 2.3.3 for awhile on my AT&T developer phone and the facebook features can be turned off. It's not that bothersome but to a facebook fiend it can be ok i guess. It integrates new pictures u take, phone numbers etc. into ur contact lists etc.

Are there any more major improvements added other than the Facebook and security updates?

I have a dev phone too but only on 2.3.2, how did you get yours?

can I upgrade to Froyo and erase everything?

My friend work for google and the have an upgrade station. He uograde 2.2 on his nexus one. Wifi, tethering etc..
Can I send my x10 to him and upgrade to 2.2?
I'm afraid not. Unless SE release an Froyo based OS upgrade or the device gets rooted, you won't be getting 2.2 on your x10.
not before the device is rooted which is not possible till now
i think major upgrade getting 2.2 (froyo) for xperia x10
it will be released during this month so it may strongly be the next update i think
SE have confirmed 2.1... they've made no comment about 2.2... despite public pressure!!.. who knows.. they may be persuaded..

This is possible but only if SE it allows!!Or we get Root!!
hmm...well the root bounty is at $890 and still nothing, either its impossible or not high enough
Is it possible that Sony can somehow decouple UX from the main andriod os? If they did, wouldn't it make it a lot easier to bring out the FroYo update? They said that they will continue to support the X10 so we may eventually see FroYo.
This device just doesn't seem to be as popular as the HTC's (probably due to the controversy over MT e.t.c and SE's track record). I think thats the reason we havent seen root.
SE are selling this phone with TimeScape and MediaScape and I can't see them dropping those two apps, which according to them are main selling points of this phone.
If they were to drop their two apps in favour of an updated OS we would receive faster updates I.e.2.1 and 2.2.
I personally would drop both TS and MS in favour of 2.1 and 2.2.
SE have only confirmed 2.1 in Q4. They have mentioned the 2.2 for the x10.
I'm sure they will announce the x10's successor by then.
Mediascape's pretty good, but I don't know anyone who uses Timescape...Just eats up battery.
yh media scape is great, timescape is just a waste.
+1 Looks great at the promotion videos but it's useless (for me at least).

I'm using timescape (not as home screen).
Is nice to have everything in one place.
I know, you can't update a status, etc but at least i have all the info one tap away.
I don't have to open the email, twitter, facebook or messenger to check what's new.
I hope they will give as a manual or something to write our own modules.
I would love to have there the engadget feed

No one can, it's just the latest update instructions. It even mentions as a new feature what we got with one of the recent updates: integrated backup.
Most likely, it's 2.1 updrade. It's rediculous to announce 2.2 update before 2.1 is released.
Froyo was never mentioned anywhere in that post on the SE product blog. Also, that was posted sometime in June 2010.
for those who havent seen it yet (which is almost impossible.. lol)

Android 2.3.4 heading to new Xperia handsets in October

The Android 2.3.3 update has already started to roll out in certain regions as reported yesterday. HDBlog.it is reporting that Italian users will see the Android 2.3.3 update in June (our guess would be next week), which is when it is most likely to roll out to other European countries.
Interestingly, they report that the Android 2.3.4 update will hit the new Xperia handsets in October. We can’t verify this for sure, but HDBlog.it says the information comes direct from Sony Ericsson Italy. Android 2.3.4 will introduce video chat in Google Talk as well as Google Maps 5.1 with 3D, Voice Search 2.1.1 with Voice Actions and personalized voice search, and the latest version of Google Books.

What does 2.3.4 offer new?
Visio in gtalk...
But we don't have face camera on Arc
Can't we already upgrade those Google apps? I'm looking forward to improvements in the OS itself. Any?
Mmm,i dont need facebook issues, but really need less camera compression..
good news indeed
Hope they sort out the wifi issues.
This is just a rumour. Nothing official until we hear it from SE.
IMO there's not much in 2.3.4 worth getting excited over on top of 2.3.3, we dont have a front facing camera, and we can already get the latest versions of google apps on the market.
More interesting would be any performance improvements, bugfixes and enhancements that also get incorporated into the new firmware.
first of all let countries such as INDIA get the 2.3.3 update and then maybe we can think about 2.3.4. its really frustrating to know that we are just left like that when ohter countries are getting it and not us.
This is just my opinion
Waiting for 2.3.4 even Arc no face camera i want to try vision on Gtalk

I don't think they are slow anymore. Arc was first phone with 2.3 after Nexus S.. And SE is as fast as other manufactors to deliever 2.3.3 to Arc..

A friend told me that Desire HD got 2.3.3 before the Arc... couldn't find a date anywhere, though. Not that it really matters, but has anyone more information on this?
Yes it did.. But arc got 2.3 before everything else (apart from nexus s)..

I see, did mix up 2.3.3 and 2.3 then. Thanks. ^^
It brings support for dual core processors, but that's hardly of much use to the Arc.
Look forward to it
2.3.4 offers classic videocall?
I just want the wifi bug fixed.

Gingerbread on X10 delayed in August

According to SE blog Gingerbread is delayed in August:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/06/20/update-on-gingerbread-for-xperia™-x10/
While this is a bad news for X10 owners they have some excuses:
"...March most of the 2011 XperiaTM software functionality from e.g. XperiaTM arc will be included. The UI with the desktop layout and pinch-to-overview gesture will be similar and Gingerbread features like Wi-Fi & USB tethering, App storage on SD-card etc are included. Also the customizable horizontal app tray and the media experience widgets from the 2011 XperiaTM Products are in, including an integrated equalizer in the music player. Of course also apps that require Android versions 2.2 or 2.3 will now be possible to download from Android Market, e.g. Adobe flash."
August is not so far away so let's see. I am not o pressed anymore as I have also my Arc

the reason was explained in the blog and the discussion is happening in the gingerbread update discussion thread.
I actually had faith in SE, but now they've delayed their update I don't care what device they will bring in the future. Also the only improvement of our devs their roms will be the camera. I will move to HTC (Only if they get a nice design) or else I will go to Samsung. They said it's planned for end Q2/begin Q3. August is not the begin but middle of Q3!! I'm very dissapointed as SE customer and I spend my damn money on this phone that will not even kept as updated as a Arc would be.
1.5 years left, and I can finally say Hello to HTC/Samsung and bye SE. I don't care what ever they say, they promised fast updates. Well I see, months of work and still a late release then promised. Also, great customer service. NOT, they can't even reply to your questions, and mostly in a NORMAL way without typefaults.

Ill never make the mistake of buying a SE. again

New Firmware listed for 2011 Xperia devices

Just read this and wanted to share.
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/12/1...d&utm_campaign=Feed:+XperiaBlog+(Xperia+Blog)
"Sony has some new firmware on the horizon for the 2011 Xperia handsets. Firmware version number 4.1.B.1.13 is likely to be a new version of Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. It has been certified for all 2011 handsets apart from the Xperia PLAY. We have no idea what improvements it will bring over the current firmware (4.1.B.0.587), but as it’s the first new firmware in months, we expect bug improvements and maybe some significant enhancements too. "

A pity it won't be for the xperia play.
I've just learned to live with Gingerbread on this phone.
Went out and bought a 32GB microsd card and loaded it up with PS1 roms, stuck in the extended battery, and using it as a pure gaming device, with occasional phone calls

The only good I can see from these updates woudl be in porting some of the new features (or all) to our phone. Otherwise I would agree with you. Plus, its nice to know that Sony is releasing a update for 2011 phones at the end of 2012.
"If" they do hav a stock Ics for our Play then it "should be" the best ics we can get. Coz its thier job & duty to giv the best to all sony consumer. I'll take it.

Honestly, we can get panoramas, notification toggles, data management, lock screen widgets and many other "improvements" of 4.x without 4.x... so I'd rather just keep the integrity of my gaming intact.
