I just got a secondhand rooted evo running the latest CM7 rom. I activated it with Sprint today but am having issues. I get no data connectivity. I don't want to get stuck with no data when away from my home wifi network. What is the problem? How do I fix this? Thanks.
edit: I have enabled data in the settings. Thanks

If you just activated it today, I'm assuming you gave Sprint the phone info and they said it was activated? You still need to program it from the phone and you can't do that on an AOSP ROM like CM7. You need to nandroid, flash a sense ROM and update your profile (and PRL while you're at it), then wipe and restore your nandroid.
So basically in Clockwork Recovery I need to do a backup, then flash a sense rom like MikFroyo? Would restoring my original stock sense rom do the trick to enable me to update my profile? How do I update my profile/where do I update it at? Also will my 4g work still? Thanks

Correct. Update all that stuff in Setting > About Phone (I think it's in there, been forever since I used a sense-based ROM) Update your profile and PRL. And 4G will still work.

Yes, any HTC EVO Sense ROM.
Just load up Sprint Lovers ROM and do it there. Works perfect for others I know of that did it.
Settings- update phone, run update profile first, then prl
FYI, i switched back from my EPIC to my EVO Friday and i had a lot of problems.
I ultimately got it to work but had to nandroid restore to the EVO before it was rooted, then after a few failed attempts did the ##RTN# and it finally activated after i did that.
Did the Profile update and PRL update and then nandroid restore of my previously backed up CM7.
Its working now. But short of the ##RTN# it was not happening.
similar issue
I am having a similar issue, but with my HTC Evo Shift. Not trying to get off topic, but can someone shed some advice on what my problem is here...
I have rooted my phone and was running Cm7 before with success. However, I decided to restore my backed up stock sprint Sense OS. I then decided to try the newer builds/updates of Cm7.
I tried using CWM from my phone (volume down and power). I wiped Data/Factory Reset, wiped Cache, and wiped Dalvik Cache. Then I installed Cm7 7.0.3.1 for speedy. It installed fine, but when loading up the data services do not work. I have mobile network turned on, phone and texts work fine.
I restored to my sense OS I had backed up and everything worked fine. Will this method work for me? Install Cm7, create a backup, then restore my Sense OS and update profile and update prl, then Restore my CM7 backup?
Or will I have to Reset Data, reset cache, and reset Dalvik cache before restoring cm7. My main concern is that doing the reset data/factory reset will lose my updated profile and updated prl information. When I try to install cm7 without doing that first, I get stuck on the cyanogen screen and it never boots.
Thanks for any help

I have been having this issue ever since my phone booted up and all my apps sequentally had force close dialogs happen. I am running my apps from the SD and figured something went wrong with the boot up sequence. I tried doing a nandroid backup, reinstall fresh 1.1, but no luck.
I then used my backups to reinstall over all my apps, then went into Market to install them via that. Everything seemed to be just fine, but the phone app would still not dial anything and when I recieved a call, it gives the error "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" and then proceeds to try to reset the phone connection. Most times I lose all data connection and need to reboot.
Recently, I tried installing the latest Modoco CDMA rom. No luck. I then did a Titanium backup and force reinstalled everything again. Still no luck.
Anyone have this issue and get it resolved? My Hero can do everything but make and accept calls. I really don't want to do a wipe as this problem can just happen again, so I would rather understand the process.
Thanks in advance.

Simplest way to fix this should be clearing the dalvik/boot cache from fresh's kitchen. I really should write up a guide on how to do these simple tasks manually.

Will that work on MCR 2.2 as well? I'll look into that. Is it something I can do from recovery?
Ceger
yes should work on mcr 2.2 and can be done manually from recovery, I know recovery does dalvik cache, not sure if it also kils the boot cache as well though. The older version only did dalvik.

Do you need to do both? Wiping the dalvik cache created lots of app fc issues, which would be fine if the phone actually worked. Still won't make or receieve calls.
And thank you for the assistance.

Edit. Clearing the boot cashe got rid of the FC issues. However, still have same issue with the phone app. This is so annoying.
honestly the best bet to clear up the issues would be to do a full wipe from recovery. Wipe the phone clean then run the stock RUU and re-root and install your custom rom. Do a nandroid backup first just to prevent losing any of your info.
Unfortunately despite the many well written guides here on XDA there are always a few issues most likely a result of slight hardware quirks or unfortunate circumstances at the time of flashing.
Just for '****s and giggles' have you tried pulling your battery for 30 seconds, reinstalling it and booting the phone up?
Heck sometimes just a reflash of the rom right over top of itself. I've been tinkering with this phone since the day root came out and I still don't fully understand all of it's quirks.

use these commands to clear cache
rm -r /data/boot-cache/
rm /data/dalvik-cache/
once you finish then reboot.everything should go away...
he's done that already.
then i suggest to extract the rom zip file, and get into command on your device and go under the system/lib or app and see what is listed in the folders. and compare it to the rom folder.
That's how i was able to fix the voice search on my device, one of the lib file was missing and got it to work after that.

Done, even manually moved some files in case they were corrupted at one point. Very bad move, nandroid backup was my friend there.
Guess a wipe will be the only option then. How annoying.
Thanks for all of your inputs.

Another thought... would updating my phone with latest kernal compile possibly do the trick? Or how about a replacement process for google.com.phone?

Interesting theory.... worth a try.
i had this issue once and it was because of somehow the uids for the apps got messed up. a wipe should fix this in most cases. but for me it went like ur issue. i almost event went back stock. then i looked into it and found that in my packages.xml file the the uids were all messed up. i had multiple uids and certs for the apps i was having issues with. so what i did was pulled the packages.xml from the device and erased the apps i was having issues with. then pushed it back and rebooted. that cleared the issue. so if i were u i would research that. do a google search on it. then if it doesnt work do the ruu and reroot. good luck man. i know how u must be feeling. i was there

Actually, the fix was much simpler. I wiped the SD ext partition and just did a Recovery Wipe. It went back to stock modded rom that remained rooted. I then used Titanium to reinstall my apps with data and then MyBackup to get back some settings such as my scenes, etc. and all was good. Took all of 30 minutes to get my Hero back up and running in better condition than before.
Thanks all for the assists.

I recently performed a nand restore from a custom Rom I didn't want to keep and now, everything I try to download from the marketplace fails. when you do a restore, do you need to factory wipe and dalvic wipe as well? sorry of this is a dumb question!
Sent from my Eris using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I had this problem and it may be for a completely different reason. I was uninstalling apps i don't use and I uninstalled Google talk. After some searching people who were having trouble downloading apps in the market fixed it by signing into google talk. I restored to a backup before i removed it and logged in and it worked fine.

Me too. Whenever I am on wifi the download just hangs at "Starting" until I switch the wifi off. Im not sure if this is by design or not.
ugh this is really bugging me. I've done a factory and dalvic wipe and restored again and still cannot download off the marketplace. I'm at my wits end.
edit: I even did just a factory wipe with no restore and started from scratch and the marketplace still won't download. I'm stumped. maybe I should do the revert back to stock unrooted 1.5 and then root again. or maybe I should wipe then reflash the rooted 2.1. any suggestions? thanks!

Tried it. Didn't work. I just reflashed to the rooted 2.1 and still cannot dl from market and now cannot sign in to Gtalk.... maybe it's a google thing?
OK, I've been having miscellaneous and very annoying problems with my phone ever since I updated to 2.2 OTA (I wasn't rooted before, I am now as of just a few days ago, and still running stock 2.2), so I want to wipe the phone to get it back to "factory" 2.2 and start over. I've already backed up my installed apps using Titanium, and I also installed AppBrain, so it should (if I understood the product description correctly) be able to download any non-purchased apps as well.
My question is, should I just do a Factory Data Reset (settings, privacy, factory data reset), or should I do something else in place of or in addition to that?
Ok if you have not done any flashing of any roms then I would unroot via however you rooted and do a full data cache wipe and factory reset ....if you have flashed roms or just want to be safe you can always reflash the sbf using these links and instructions
http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...ces-droid-x-2-2-system-sbf-rsdlite-4-8-a.html
Thanks, I actually just bit the bullet earlier today and did a factory reset. Some of my widgets didn't reload correctly for some reason, so it took me a while to try to remember what each of them actually were...but other than that, after I re-rooted and restored everything via Titanium Backup, it seems to be working OK. Hopefully the various problems I was having before the reset won't come back!
Well since most of your problems were more than likely 2.2 related then they may come back but let's hope not .....maybe you should look into a good asop rom or.some of the others and you will more than likely experience far less problems if you go with a nicely built rom
I'm still pretty new to Android, I want to get into customizing my epic, specifically learning how to load custom roms.
I'm looking for some good how to resources, I've done some preliminary forum searches with some success.
So far I've updated to 2.2, and had the gps problem. Searched for a solution, found multiple threads for the fix, most involve using Oden, I've had zero success with getting oden to see my phone.
So I searched for alternative methods,
I finally fixed the gps problem, by doing one click root > made a clockwork back up > flashed back to DI18 > stepped outside, got gps lock > Flashed to the DK28 > Then Restored my clockwork back up. After that the gps has been super fast to lock, usually under 5 sec.
But I'm still chasing the dragon, I want the AOSP Lockscreen, I've tried clockwork installing different versions from the popular thread about the AOSP Lockscreen, to no success.
But now I get an occasional black out screen, the phone is still on, it if I leave it alone, the stock tw lockscreen comes back.
Now frustrated that I've come across another quirk, I want to try one of the 2.2 based roms, particularly the Nebula.
One problem, I can't find instructions on how to install it.
I do see instructions for other roms, I'm assuming that it's a similar procedure.
The Epic experience says oden to a stock 2.2, then in clockwork "wipe data/factory reset" before flashing the rom.
One question, when I do an oden flash to 2.2 and "wipe data/factory reset" will it delete my clockwork back up?
Current mission.
1. Have a backup of my data and apps.
2. Install a custom rom
3. Restore my data from backup.
Questions:
1. Anyway to use a custom rom with out Oden?
2. Is it completely necessary to do a factory reset?
3. Factory reset, will this effect my phone account information, such as being associated with my phone number and sprint account?
Any information is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
I'm a linux user, I've never used odin and I'm running the current rom of mammons.
When using clockworkmod to do the resets for factory and cache, it will not wipe anything stored on the sd card. So as long as your clockworkmod backup is on your sd card, and it should be, you won't lose it.
Factory reset and deleting cache its required. Do it 3 times to make sure its done before flashing the me rom.
It will not mess with your phone number our account info.
I recommend downloading titanium backup and backing up all app data and user system info.
If you have more questions that you couldn't find on the forums, our need clarification, ask away.

Thanks mxcoldhit, I'm now running my 1st rom, Nebula, so far so good.
A few notes from my experience:
From my previous clockwork back up, restored that, installed titanium, backed up my most used apps & info, exported my contact info from the contacts app.
Went ahead and wiped 3 times, loaded my rom, installed titanium, restored all my apps and info that I've had since day one.
Things of note to noobs like me, clockwork is awesome, back ups seem to work like ghost images, whole frozen snapshots of the os with all data & apps.
Titanium and clockwork both store the backup data on your micro-sd card.
So you can play with different setups and if you want to go back, just restore the back up file, they don't get wiped when you wipe the phone.
Titanium works in much the same fashion, install it on your system and you can make back ups of apps and phone data, when you load a new rom, just go ahead and install Titanium if it's not already there, and you can restore your favorite apps and data.
One thing that confused me before realizing what i was doing wrong, was that after I flashed the custom rom, I restored my backup thinking that it would just add my data and apps back, well it does that and the os also, so just keep that in mind.
Started with OMNI shown on galaxynote2root.com. Was working nearly flawlessly until today when I lost my mobile network (all services: phone, text, data - antenna was essentially gone). Not clear on exactly what I did when it occurred but I did flash 1/13/14 nightly manually via CWM (have done this with the previous nightly's without any problems). Tried wiping cache/data, Dalvik w/o luck. Tried formatting my internal SD also w/o luck. Doing a fresh install (as opposed to restore) did restore all mobile network services but of course I am now having to re-setup my phone. After installing fresh install, tried restoring w/o any wipe - again no luck.
Quite frustrating. I had read something out there that talked about remapping the tree (not sure what this means). In any case, is there a fix for this so I can restore my prior backups with mobile services working and also avoid this the future?
So here we go again; no service after wipe. Grrrrrrrr!!

So here we go again. Went to load the stock Sprint TouchWiz ROM. Wiped cache partition, wiped Dalvik, and did stand wipe cache/data. Had some issue with the stock ROM flashing so I went ahead and loaded my backup I just made of my newly setup OMNI ROM. And once again no network service what so ever. I really enjoy this ROM but it's thinks like this that push me back to the most supported ROM for my phone, the TouchWiz ROM. It's like I'm being held hostage to this Omni ROM in the sense that it appears that should I want do any wipe of any sorts or anything to that effect I'm essentially screwed and might as well just flash the the original ROM all over again.
There's got to be one of you Dev's out there that knows why this is happened and can let me know if there is a fix for this that will allow me to keep my setup as is. Someone who's knows, please response. If you need more info, please ask. I'm about to ditch this ROM over this issue. Otherwise, nearly flawless use of the ROM until this point.
Okay, so I was able to find a fix for this problem. After the complete wipe as described in my second post, I restored my recent backup. As mentioned above, no mobile service whatsoever at that pont. I then restarted back into CWM recovery and flashed the same version nightly as that of my backup and it appeared to do an update. I was then able to boot back into my restored backup with everything intact and all mobile services working.
Yes, I found a fix for myself but Devs why the heck do I have to go through that? Why cannot I not simply restore my backup and go on with life? Much headache over the past day or so over this.
So I installed the the 1/13/14 nightly as a fresh install. I stared messing around with advanced restore. When I restore only the /system folder that is when I lose all mobile cell services.
