I did a some Google searches and some in the forums and either I'm retarded and couldn't find an answer or its so obvious that everyone knows how but me..... I'm missing something.
I'm very new to custom Roms and am learning to create my own. I'm trying to figure out how to change the default bookmarks for the built in browser. Anyone know?
Thanks!
So I figured this out for anyone who may want to know in the future, using the apktool app I was able to decompress the Browser.apk file and the default bookmarks are loaded in the res/values/arrays.xml file =)

So has anyone on here gone into the VoicePlus Beta? A lot of people on there are curious if anyone has looked into rooting the img or extracting the Apk. http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Voice...ash-the-Voice-Plus-Beta-ROM-Image/ta-p/325923 Even one of the mods has said he uses Cyanogen and was wondering if anything was going on over here.
p.s. Cyanogen....you ROCK!

why not just extract the apk yourself using an appmanager? the post to forums
complete
Honestly...because I've never done it. ;-) I know not a really good reason, but between school, work and the fam...I haven't been able to take the time to learn. I'm hoping that over my next deployment (I'm in the Army also) that I can learn to create an app and maybe cook a ROM.
Interesting
I like the CityID and the call divert and call defer seems neat - hopefully better visual voicemail than T-mobile's other app.
I'd like to see it integrated in Cyanogen, and SuperD roms
its a waste, dont flash u will LOOSE ROOT
i pulled the system image
ok, I've been picking this up as I'm going... I extracted the nbh file and now have .nb files, but I dont know where to go from here...
anyone can point me in a direction would be helpful. I have SDK installed and can make and start a virtual device.
Hello,
I am a software/web developer. Lately I had an idea to make an interface for easy CWM Rom Modifications. Basically like online rom editor.
The program flow is simple.
1. You upload zip rom from your computer, link or choose one from server.
2. You modify basic rom features. Possible functions (some):
add/remove/replace apps
custom launchers
build.prop editor
add/remove/replace fixes/updates
3. Once done you can download, get qr code, share, upload to rapidshare, megaupload, etc
I can make such thing in a week and ready to use. Questions is, would anyone use it?
Personally I can find it useful for me because i switch roms daily and i prefer launcherpro instead of stock, custom wallapepers, etc etc. So instead of installing each rom and modifying it locally you could do it with few clicks from your browser, even possibly from phone itself.
But once again, does that sound something that you would find useful?

It's a great idea dude! I'm a web designer/dev too. Anyway love the idea, this will open up the possibilities of trying new roms every time.
I'd too use it.
It's the idea, I was dreaming of.
Best of luck !
HECK YES
oh boy yes totally yes.
this type of app would help immensly to any1 who wishes to barebone there favourite rom.
help us in keeping our cwm smaller ie 5/150/10 etc.
mod roms to our taste.
cut out fonts we dont want.
apps we dont want or use.
ringtones, alarm sounds, notifications, system sounds etc we dont want or need.
insert our own apps.
hell yes brilliant idea hope that you do create and bring this project to fruition.
A++++++++++++ on idea and creation.

I like the idea, however, with ROM dev's in mind, i would not make it so one can share the ROM they uploaded. I would make it so the person who uploaded the ROM they can then download it after their modifications were made. I just know that some ROM devs wouldnt appreciate their work being passed on and shared without their approval, a lot of devs dont like mirrors being created and even though the user modifies the ROM, its still not their work since the code is the developers. But yes i would like something like this. i already have a batch file set up that just adds the things i want.
I truly appreciate the work that devs are doing and I know that many of us don't like anything that has to do with stock, but please, if you are changing other things on your theme or mod besides that you say in the op, please disclose that. I had my messaging app replaced by a theme and I didn't know that was going to happen.
Unzip the original rom you flashed and pull it from system/app/mms.apk. Force stop messaging in manage apps and replace using rootex and reboot.
good day.
Hello, I'm having some trouble building native apps from source and getting them to install.
Specifically what I'm trying to do is as follows:
I recently upgraded my Droid X to Gingerbread (rooted and deodexed). I can't stand the blur email app. I prefer the original Email.apk. What I did was download and compile Gingerbread from source. I had no problems doing this. After the build, I attempted to adb push the stock email app to my device. The push goes successfully, and I can see the Email.apk in the system/app folder, but it is not installing.
I figure this is due to some dependency not being satisfied.
1.) Does anyone know what the dependencies are for the stock Email.apk?
2.) Is there any way to find out dependencies for future reference?
3.) Custom rom makers obviously modify various apps for their roms, I have searched in many places for a decent guide on how to do this. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thank you in advance!
Did you remove the blur e-mail app first? I doubt that will be it, but it's worth a try
Yes...the blur app is a different filename though...i appreciate the suggestion.

I want to develop stuff for our phone. Is there something useful I could help making?
I have basic to little advanced knowledge of Java
I understand c++ except for pointers which I might want to look up. But presumeably not good enough...
I could make frameworks. If I only knew how or where to start and which files to edit for example. Is it possible to decrypt xml files or why are they not readable?
Compile it from the source without any touchwiz on it, just murder touchwiz from it roots. then release the rom. I will LOVE you. but add launcherpro ;P

Well, basically you can try different things:
1) ROM's - We have plenty , so not worth wasting time on that.
2) Kernel's - We need more, so definitely worth it
3) Applications - You need Java & XML Knowledge...
4) Developing from source (AOSP, CM) - Too much knowledge needed...
5) Edit Default apps - (Edit Smali, xml files )
And yes, you can decrypt xml files...
one good example is this one... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065452
See the HOW-TO...
And Please Dont Post In Development Section, Unless You Have Already Started Developing, Hope You Understand
I am also very interested in making performance themes which are as light as possible... And improving batterylife as well by making the theme as dark as possible while still making it very attractive.
When editing the framework-res of for example g3mod. Will I need to zipalign again? Or do I need to do some after optimization after replacing the files through 7-Zip?
I read I had to use 7-zip to keep the apk signed... I may be wrong.
EDIT: I think APK Manager is my solution! Thanks for the link!
Sure...
Better Video recording!
at least 640x480 please.

I have my stock rom from Samsung, which I downloaded with checkfusdownloader.
So what are the steps I need to take to start modding this thing? So I can deodex this and maybe zipalign it
