[Q] Rom recognized sd partition as internal memory - XPERIA X8 General

Hello everyone! I installed the Srom 2.2.1 V3 earlier. Everything is working very good and stable. But i noticed a problem. When i was on 2.1, i installed link2sd to have my apps on the sd. So i partitioned my sd card. When i installed the new rom today, i didn't do anything to the sd card, and when i started to install applications i saw that they were going to the ext2 partition, despite the fact that they were marked as installed on phone memory. Then i tried the option "move to sd" (through application manager) and the apps moved to another location of the sd card. So what can i do to use my phone memory? (which has 180MB free space!)
Thank you very much in advance!

delete and format the ext partition in SDcard

If i backup the apps that are installed there using titanium, and then after formatting the sd i restore them, will they be installed on the internal memory, or will there be any problems?

1st you need to use minitool partition checking is it your SDcard creat a ext2 partition. if you just format the sdcard it doesn't mean delete your ext2 partition. so that after you update to 2.2 ROM, is still will recognized ext2 partition as your system storage
P/S sorry my bad English.

I've just deleted the partition and formatted the whole sd card. Then i wiped cache and did a factory reset because i had some install issues. So ext2+android 2.2 don't get along well!!! Thank you for your interest and replies

ext fomatted sd space in liberated Aria (eclair) doesn't show up in cyanogen 6.1.1

Hello everyone,
I recently got an HTC aria from AT&T.
After a few days I went ahead and rooted the phone.
At first I decided to try the liberated Aria (éclair) rom. It was a good experience. But just last night I decided to try another rom, so I went with Cyanogenmod 6.1.1.
While I was using liberated aria, I used rom manager to partition my sd card with the ext filesystem, so I could move some apps to it and open up some space from my phone's internal storage.
This space, while I never figured out how to move the apps, always showed in titanium backup.
With the move to Cyanogenmod 6.1.1, this partition doesn't show at all!, in fact my sd card is at 1.7 Gb!, it's like I lost an extra 0.25 Gb (which is the partition size I chose in rom manager before)... I tried partitioning in cyanogenmod with rom manager again, but then my sd card took another 0.25 Gb hit and went to 1.5 Gb!...
How do I get back to my 2Gb sdcard space? furthermore how I do partition the card such that I can extend my internal storage for apps?
Thanks
Andres
I use gparted on linux to do that. I'm not sure what OS you use, but there are live cds you could use.
But on gparted, you should be able to see all the partitions on the card and manage them as necessary.
In order to use the ext partition, you should darktremor's app2sd. Ext3 is the filesystem you should use, but ext2 works as well I believe.

thanks, I use Debian Squeeze on desktop and testing on laptop.
I just got gparted, but it says my external storage is only 1.7 Gb!
Like I said...the extra 0.25 Gb is no longer being mounted with the sdcard and it somewhere lost in the filesystem and/or apportioned to some obscure directory...
Hmmm... that is quite odd. I know some sd cards aren't actually what they state. My 8GB card only shows as 7.8GB for example.
Try formatting the whole card (Back up first!!) And see if it comes back somehow. I am not a sd card expert.

thats what i'd recommend.
when you installed cm6, did you do a wipe data? did you notice if it said it was wiping the ext partition? i'd guess cm6 isn't noticing the space because it was partitioned separately from the rom install.
backup your important data, format the card, and try repartitioning it again now that you've got cm6 installed.
well I'm not entirely sure why it worked this time, but I was able to fully format the card. Now I'm back to 2Gb (well, really 1.84 Gb, but that's right)
The problem I think was that I was formatting with Rom manager, and it was ignoring the extra unrecognized space. What I did different this time, is that I went into settings > sd card & storage > unmount sd card > format sd card > mount sd card > sucess!
So this successfully formatted the whole card.
Thanks for your pointers
Unfortunately trying to partition it again failed.
I tried gparted and it successfully formatted a part of the card with the ext3 filesystem (while leaving the rest as unallocated -- at least this is what gparted said). Unfortunately when mounting the sd card on my phone it complained that the card had been damaged. So I had to reformat it, undoing the previous partitioning.
Then I tried rom manager again, but the way it works is by going into recovery and partitioning the card there. Unfortunately, clockworkmod recovery showed a warning sign ( triangle with an exclamation mark in it) above an android and froze there...I had to pull the battery out to reboot my phone.
I guess my oldish version of gparted (0.7.0) doesn't like the YAF filesystem (YAFFS). So perhaps when it partitions the card, it screws up the existing YAFFS partition. I'll try to use gparted again to partition the card fully, 256 Mb ext3 as extra app storage and the rest, I guess ext3 as well.

I finally did get it to work on both R012 and FR008 (as well as CM6.1.1 and CM7)
I formatted the sdcard with gparted (chose a 512 Mb ext3 partition with 32 Mb Swap). Then from android's terminal emulator (as root) I typed
Code:
a2sd check
and it enabled apps2sd using darktremor just fine. It became aware of my ext3 partition.

[Q] App2SD+ question

Hey,
Yh, I know: another app2sd+ question...
Tried using the search button, but did not find what I was searching for
I'm using the TyphooN CyanogenMod7 RC2 v2.5.5 ROM on my HD2 and was running low on internal memomy and used to send apps to my sd card, but some wouldn't not work and my internal memomery was low on memory.
So I decided to partition my 8GB scandisk sd card:
6.7 gb FAT32 en 800mb ext2
After I did that, I used a clean instal of TyphooN CyanogenMod ROM and everyhting works .
When I go to applications and then applications managing, I see that my internal memory is just 244 mb and my external memory 6.5 gb.
But what I don't understand :
Who do I move downloaded applications from my phone to the ext2 partition on my sd card instead on the fat32 partition ?
Does this (moving to ext2 partition) happen automatically when I download apps and move them to the SD card ?
The ext partition is considered internal, so if you manually move an app to the SD card, it will go from the ext partition to the fat partition and many wont work. When you have an ext partition you don't need to do anything. The rom will use the ext itself.
When you look at internal memory size it wont show the ext space, only the actual internal space. Say you instal a ten Meg app, that figure goes down ten even though its installed to ext, but it will go back up ten next reboot.
Thank you very much !
That was very clear, didn't find this somewhere else

a2sd and kyrillos 3.3

I have an ext2 partition on my sd card and it is mounted under /data/sdext2 ,i have Kyrillos 3.3 rom but i dont know if a2sd works(free memory is low).
How can i confirm that, and use it?

I think it doesnt work in ext2 partitions! Make an ext4. You can see if it works with titanium backup on the first page, below it has the sdcard, internal and sdcard (a2sd)

it shows me
internal 201mb (60 free)
ds card 7gb (6.1free)
sdcard(a2sd) 219mb (17.7 free)
ext sd card7gb (6.1 free)
so probably it does not work with ext2.
First you must have a2sdfroyo it is availaibal in the market. It works on rooted phones only . Chek the case of external . With kyrillos i think you must have also ext4 partition in your sd card . It works with me very well
install some applications then go to titanium backup and move app to internal
make so after that
Internal storage full despite of big ext4 partition
Hello, I have a similar problem. I'm now running Kyrillos 4.0 and have a 1GB ext4 partition on the SD card.
In Titanium backup I can see that some apps were installed to the A2SD partition, but there is still plenty of space left on it.
Now my phone run out of internal storage and I can't install any more apps. Moving all apps to SD and back to internal with Titanium didn't help.
So how can I fill the A2SD partition and prevent apps from being installed to the internal storage?
Titanium backup says: Internal memory: 26.2 MB free; SD: 1,84 GB free; A2SD: 708 MB free.
Android system says: Warning, low space, Internal memory: 15,29 MB free !
Something is wrong and I don't understand...
where should the 2nd partition be mounted to work with a2sd automatically?
I have the exact same issue here. I've partitioned the sd with ext3 and now I have no internal memory left. I've got 280MB left on a2sd partition. Going into applications and moving what ever I can do SD doesn't change internal memory a single byte....
KYRILLOS, all the BEST for your EXAMs
As a new user I'm not allowed to post in the development forum (I would have preferred to do this just by a reply in your ROM forum)....
Thank's a lot!!!! Your WORK's making me love my phone.
Looking forward to more than "ohhhh, just mms app changed in 5.6?", which I've seen in the forum....
Go onn that way!!! And one more THANK YOU!

Low internal storage !! despite sd extention & Apps2 sd !!!

hey everyone
I have a little problem here. I am using a nand rom named hyperdroid gbx v3 and initially I had 270 MB of internal storage during the first startup .
I have moved majority of my apps to sd excluding a few apps that require phone memory.
Now my internal storage is full even after deleting the unnecessary stuff.
»»» I dont want to loose all my apps and settings .
Please can anyone help me with this ?
Is there any solution to increase internal memory in a NAND rom ??
Thank s in advance !

That rom has a2sd+ meaning if you set up an ext partition on your SD card, the rom will automatically put apps there, and treat it as internal storage (though the system will not show it on the available storage screen)
When you have manually chosen to move an app to SD, you are actually moving it to the fat32 partition.
So, set up the ext partition (can do it through cwm, backup your fat32 first, the SD will be wiped) then copy back all the fat32 stuff to the fresh sd, boot, and move all your manually moved apps back to the internal memory and they should be moved to the ext.
(Though if it were me I'd set up the ext, and reflash the rom,, start over.
Also, when you instal an app, 10 Meg, say, your reported internal memory will drop 10mb, but will go back up when you next reboot.
As for keeping your data and such, if you do a backup in cwm first(which is saved to SD, make sure you copy it to PC before you start formatting the SD card) then after you flash the rom again you can use cwm selective restore to restore just the data partition.(but see if it works without a fresh flash first )
That helped me..

Ext3 partition

Hi team,
Just wanted to know why should we create Ext3 partition? Will this solve the low memory problem in Blade?
What would be the recommended partition size and how to partition it? Do forgive me if this is a repeat question please point me to right thread.
Regards
UK
Creating ext partition on memory card will move the apps from phone memory to ext partition on memory card thereby freeing up phone memory. So it solves low memory problems due to insufficient storage.
Use clockworkmod recovery to partition memory card. Depending on ur sdcard size and ur needs the ext an be 256 or 512MB with 0MB swap. After partitioning, flash the darktremor apps2sd script from custom recovery to use the sdcard for applications.

I have CM7 running. When I partition it, what happens with the backup and the data on the SD card?
