hi...
as the title...
who all are succeded in connecting usb external hdd to iconia ?
cause i tried with two, and booth are not recognized
one is pendrive sense 320gb, second is wd 250gb
all you who can connect, whats your hdd??
fyi, i can connect card reader and usb thumb drive
UPDATE
OKEY..
so i tried connecting my hdd through a powered usb hub, and still no luck,
i tried connect it with a Y cable, one to iconia and onte to powered hub, also no luck ...
is there any other way to try ? tried every thing from usb mount all, ntfs mount, charging while plugging , usb powered, new HDD, fat32 formatted , ntfs HDD and all in vain...
if not then, i am sure my device is defective of something....
How were they formatted? At those sizes, I'm going to guess they were formatted to NTFS which Android cannot read natively. There is, however, a thread in the Development section which includes a driver to enable NTFS support on the A500.

I tried both 320gb Seagate and 750gb passport worked fine...They both formatted in fat32.
HM.. IT SEEMS , ONLY I CANT Get my hdd TO WORK IN ICONIA...
wonder why
is anyone here in asia or may be in indonesia??
may be this is rom related ?
l live in china ,very far from you .....
i still wait for the 3.1 update.
i am not sure can i receive ota update if i root it.
so i dont root ,and still wait.
well ,if i get the update of 3.1 ,i will come back and reply .
i have a 2T hdd, buffalo.
Okey... So now i have tried at least 6 different hdd and all failed...
I start to think ut is my hardware or rom problem?
Any solution ?
When i first connected a hdd i also thought it didn't work. When i looked at mnt/usb_storage.........no filelist. But when i got a cup of coffee and looked again the filelist was there. Apparantly the Acer needs a time to scan the HDD which can be long when it is large. So l'lle patience.

Are you sure you have power (external) going into your HD? I tried a WD portable and it wouldn't be read by the A500 until I connected it to an external power supply. Then I could read it without any problems.

my hdd has only 1 usb slot, not 2 ..
Guy's....just download (HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool) to format your HD's to fat32. I did my 250 & 500GB HD and it work just find. Windows just don't format right...that's why I don't use windows to format my HD's. If you have Linux use Gparted.
I have

I also have a 250gb that I can't get to read but then it needs dual-powered cable to be read on my laptop so I expected that. But my 320gb Buffalo, my 32gb Patriot and my 80gb Maxtor read just fine. All are NTFS. I have a 160gb from work that I will try tomorrow.
Connect it to windows and pull up the disk administrator (where you create partitions) and see if the disk is basic or dynamic? Just a hunch... have you tried different cables? And finally I want to be sure you are plugging it into the full sized USB pert and not the micro USB.

i am using mac, not windows, my hdd connect fine to mac, how to do this on mac?
not only different cables, yesterday i went to an it mall, there i tried almost 5 different 500gb hdd 2.5 inch, all failed, all have fat32 format, cause i checked them on my mac beforehand
yeah, of course i connect it to the usb 2.0 port..
this is what i dont understand, everyones hdd work fine in the iconia, why my iconia just cant read?
mine don't work either. I have a 1 TB western digital hard drive.
i use ntfs mount, first time install that ntfs mount apk...cant read my hdd but aftter reboot my iconia all partition on hdd can read and walk normal like on my laptop
I'm in Jakarta, so I don't think it can be a rom thing. Are you using NTFS mount, or just trying to plug the HDD into your tab and use the built-in software? Try this and it should fix the problem.

[Q] Transfering data between phone and A500 using USB?

I was interested in transfering files from my hone (Nexus s 4g) and my A500. I wanted to know if this is possible by simply plugging the phone into the tablet's usb port. If not, is there any drivers or apps i can download to let me do so? Basically, i want it to be like when i plug it into my computer. I want it to show up like a hard drive.
Also, i have a external harddrive and had a question on how to format it. When i right click hit format is comes up as NTFS being the default file system. The onl y other option is exFat. Is that the same as Fat32? I've heard Fat32 is the only file system that works.
Thanks for the help!

It could be a number of things.
First of all, what is the hd you are connecting?
Is it a portable?
Some work and some don't.
A portable HD that does work will draw power from the A500.
When you plug it in you will hear it spin up and the light will flash on it, indication it is being read.
If the light comes on and then immediately goes off then the drive wont work because it probably requires more power.
Also in your file manage it will come up as usb.
And if it does work you nedd to let the A500 read it before opening your file manager.
It will be ready to see in the file manager when the light stops blinking.
Some have found the following to work on some tablets.
Freecom Mobile Drive Classic II 500gb
Seagate GoFlex 1TB
500 gb Freeagent Go
Samsung S2 Portable 640 GB
LaCie's 500GB Rikiki
WD 500G Passport Elite
WD myBook 500GB
WD Elements Portable SE 500GB
Seagate FreeAgent Go Flex 1TB
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500 GB
freeagent go 250gb
maxtor basics portable storage 500GB
Transcend 320gb Storejet external HDD
Iomega 500GB Select Portable
Toshiba Canvio USB 2.0 500 GB
To keep a master list I added from other posts below:
Toshiba Canvio USB 2.0 1TB
Add Transcend 320gb to the list. (NTFS SATA)
Also WD Elements 1Tb (ext power required)
Also add Samsung s2 1Tb and Hitachi Touro 1Tb too, both NTFS sata...
i connect wd essential se 750GB

it sounds that it works also it shows the light but i can;t see anything
now i'm with 4.0.3 but before i was with 3.2.1 and it works well
so i think the problem maybe with the 4.0.3
someone can help please?

I can advise, that sometimes, on HC, I would have to plug and unplug the USB connector several times before it would work. You might try that.
Also, I use File MAnager HD, and just select External Storage.
Add 2tb wd
still no success with it...what else i can do?it can be problem with version?

No answer for you mate. Try getting DriveMount from the market, and see if that gets it going. Really shouldn't need it, but in the past, some tablets had to use it for NTFS.

Glad you got it working, if possible I would reformat the one that did not work and give it a try again.
Anyone having a Seagate goflex free agent 1TB can access it through USB on a500?
EDIT: Ok, can access it. Had some problems with the cable earlier..
NTFS is related to Microsoft licensing and Android doesnt have the neccessary license to work , most fat 32 drive will work with no problems , if you have root there are ways around the licensing issues , you might try something like this :
NTFSMount.apk
To use the NTFSMount app,you need root you should follow the instructions below;
- Install APK
- Connect HDD
- Launch app
- Select device
- Click Mount
http://*******/282572/get-ntfsmount-apk
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &
Read the Forum Rules Ref Posting
Thanks ✟
Moving to Q&A
can you upload again the
NTFSMount
?
and maybe it will help for you that what i did for the version

Hard drive shown as corrupt

Guys I am having a problem with my HP 1 TB hard drive. When I plug it in my phone using otg there is a notification saying that "your hp hard drive is corrupt, tap to fix " which takes me to a format manu.
Of all the file managers available , only es file explorer is able to read the contents but writing operations are not allowed.
The otg cable is fine because I can use all my USB drives without any problems
The HDD itself is not corrupt as I can read/write on it using my PC/laptop
Note: when I first bought the HDD it was working normally on my phone ( it was blank back then) but then I had to format it to FAT32 for it to work with my PlayStation 3, after then I again formatted it to NTFS and transferred around 200 GB of movie and series in it and here I am.
Any help is appreciated

Like I said when I first bought it was working fine ( I didn't check if it was NTFS but it must be because hdd's normally come as NTFS )
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA Labs
I had the same issue w/SanDisk 128 dual USB. Download 2Tware's Fat32Format (CNET has it) or a similar, third-party app and format the drive in FAT32. Hopefully, that'll fix your issue as it did mine.

USB-OTG with NTFS

Can the Tab S5e with stock Firmware read an USB-Stick attached via USB-OTG Adapter which is formated in NTFS?
Other filesystems like exFAT or FAT32 are not possible (Fat32 because of files >4GB and exFAT because the stick is also used on deviced which do not support exFAT but NTFS)
I don't know about stock firmware, but TWRP recognizes NTFS.
I just tried it with an 8GB USB stick formatted for NTFS using the OTG adapter and it wouldn't recognize it.
I'm curious. What type of system are you using that does not support exFAT? Pretty much every modern OS supports it.
Sent from my SM-T727V using Tapatalk
To access my NTFS-formatted USB flash drives, I use exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software. I plug in the USB flash drive into my tablet, allow the app to access the drive, tap Mount within the app, and then access my files using Total Commander. Be sure to tap Unmount within the app before disconnecting the drive.
It's a paid app but I think it's worth it. I can also access my files from my 4TB USB external hard drive.
Hopefully this helps!

I'm preparing the stick for a friend of mine which mainly wants to use the stick on her Smart TV. I'm not 100% sure if this TV supports exFAT, but my experience ist, that many TVs don't support exFAT yet. I don't want to risk to convert it to exFAT and then it won't work on the device it should be used mainly. (I can't test, because she lives far away and i have to send the stick). To use it also on the tablet is nice to have but no must.
It's also not sure if the tablet supports exFAT, is it?

I see. I would be careful with NTFS too. Not all TVs support NTFS. What is the TV model she has. Pretty much all tablets that support OTG supports exFAT. Specifically, all Samsung tablets support exFAT.
https://help.mediazilla.com/hc/en-u...hould-I-format-my-USB-drive-FAT32-exFAT-NTFS-
She has an Samsung TV, for the exact modell I have to ask.
Edit: In the meantime i asked fot the TV model (Samsung UE55MU6279) and checked the manual:
● The TV supports the FAT, exFAT, and NTFS file systems.
Does someone know or can try if exFAT works on the tablet?
The tablet definitely supports exFAT.
