[Please help] Root mt3g

Ok. I know that this has been asked many times... so do not flame for this...
Just got a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. I have the Perfect SPL (form what i understand form the other threads) 1.33.0006 (SAPP30000) with the 2.22.19.26I Radio.
Which is the best way for me to root my phone?
-i do want to keep the stock Donut ROM.
-i do not want to lose any user data... just want to get root access - think of it as Quickpwn or Redsn0w is for iPhone
What would be a way for me to update my phone after that if T-Mobile releases a new update?
Also...
If i do flash my phone with a different ROM, how do i return to the stock T-Mobile one?
I have spent a good day going through the Sapphire forum so please don't be rude and tell me to 'Search'
Thanks

if thats all you want then the quickest way to keep what you already have is not rooting your phone

you can flash the newest ota release (same as you would a rom) or you could just not root your phone
Just to highlight all your questions could be anwsered with not rooting your phone... and in a serious way. If I were you I would really rethink why you want root in the first place
There are quite a few rooting tools available among the forum threads.
Do a little bit of research; and you'll certainly end up finding some success in regards to your topic.

Rooting SPL 1.76.0010

Okay, I have searched in the Wiki and such and I havent found anything. Sorry if im posting a dumb question. I also dont have a extra SD card for a gold card. Whats the easiest way to root/ safest? is the 1.76.0010 still considered a perfect SPL?
Sorry im just really new to this, i promise in time i wont be asking dumb questions like this haha.
mate check this link out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=680359 it says its for 1.76.0009 but it worked for me and i was using 1.76.0008 perfect spl
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
when I get time i shall try this, hopefully it works.
hey try this app
Universal Androot app i was able to root my phone.
How did you wind up unlocking your phone with perfect spl 1.76.0010. I flashed the official rogers 2.1 update 3.54.631.4 ROM and am unlock and try some gingerbread.

how to install a rom WITHOUT root

Hello peeps,
is this impossible? Im a noob and Im trying to install the 4.54 rom update on my EVO 4G (and trying to get my post count up. lol)
Yes its impossible to do without rooting. The only thing you can do is accept the ota. Or you can root and do anything you want. Its not hard. Just read read read. And ask for some help if needed. There's a whole thread in the dev section specifically for first timers
We're comin from a pure power source.
Rooting is eliminating the need to do anything you do not want to. Without it, you can not uninstall bloatware, cool apps, install one of dozens of great ROMs for your viewing pleasure.
You can not install a custom ROM without being rooted.
Technically you can. If you acheive s-off on your phone then you can flash a recovery. And s-off isnt root. It's just and unlocked bootloader. Once you have an unlocked bootloader then like i said you can flash a recovery image then install a rom. Heres a link on how to get s-off! revolutionary.io
Good luck!
dope. I'll try these methods.. but Im not rooting my phone

in need of a good htc evo 4g stock rom

ive been searching for a good htc evo 4g stock rom so i can root my phone. but guess im bad luck or something and everytime when i run a stock ruu exe it would give me an error stating that i need a complete ruu file. do anyone know where i can find this? ive downloaded at least 5 differernt stock rom exe files and none of them would work! thx
Do you mean stock as in not rooted or stock as rooted, but unchanged?
Edit: BTW, this should go in Q&A if not general.
This isn't the right thread...but try Tommy's classic rom...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
What's wrong with your current stock ROM? It should be easy to root what ever stock ROM you currently have on your device with revolutionary S-OFF method.
Firstly you need to do some reading on how to root your phone using either the unrevoked or revolutionary method to then be able to use Custom ROMs. Also, keep in mind that the development thread is only for posting developed work; this thread belongs in the Q&A section instead.
well its my first post so give me a break ok? well i was trying to unroot it with unrevoked but i got a error telling me that my firmware was to up to date. so my plan was to download a older shipped rom so i can unroot it but i guess the file that i have was bad so now im stuck on the main screen with "triangles on all 4 corners and htc logo on the center. i cannot get the phone to bootloader as well.
Are you trying to root or unroot you have said both double check before you send your reply so we have accurate information to help you I don't know what you're trying to do from your posts

[Q] Rooting/unlocking bootloader

Hello, this is my first post here so bear with me...
I want to root my atrix and unlock the bootloader and (eventually) install CM9 onto it because I don't feel like waiting for the OTA to ICS, and I want to have the Vanilla ICS experience.
I know there are guides on how to root on here, but I wasn't sure if they pertain to the At&t Atrix MB860 with 2.3.6 and version 4.5.141, and I didn't want to try until anything before I was certain that it would work for my phone because like most people I am deathly scared of messing up my phone. My upgrade isn't until January, so this is the only phone I can use until then.
So can anyone help me out? What is the definitive step by step guide to rooting and unlocking the bootloader for my phone (at&t atrix, 2.3.6, 4.5.141)
Any help is greatly appreciated, many thanks!

I just had to go through the process again recently. It's actually a lot easier than when I first got the phone. Goto this thread --->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261 and follow the unlock method first. Then flash custom recovery on the phone. You should be good to go after that. PM me if you have any questions.
