[Q] MFG unlocked device - Optimus 7 General

To any developer on an Optimus 7, can you launch the VS2010 debugger on your device that you developer unlocked via MFG?
I'm tearing my hair off from this. I can deploy apps from VS2010 without a problem, but I always get the message:
"The application could not be launched for debugging. Ensure that the target device screen is unlocked and that the application is installed."
Am I missing something here? For all I know I have all tools installed on my PC (guessing if I hadn't I wouldn't be able to build and deploy the apps at all).
Anyone else experiencing this or has a solution?
/J

So I was able to replicate this error but have yet to come up with a solution. I'm not up for resetting my phone atm but if someone does can they unlock the device via MFG but NOT change the PortalUrl keys to keep it unlocked. Check then to see if you can debug. It might be the changes to these keys that prevent VB from debugging.

Will try, only side effect to that would be that the phone would relock if one ever syncs with Zune I take it.
Just tested with only unlocked and no change to the portalurl/int values and I get the same message so there's something else going on here.
I'm wondering if there are any other registry keys that are set when you unlock the "right way", anyone knows exactly what the dev unlock application does?
I'm not super keen on going through all of that Geotrust nonsense just to be able to develop on my own device.

As far as I know the only key the developer unlock app changes is the DeveloperUnlock reg key.
EDIT: So i'm at a loss here. I have even flashed back to 7008 and I still can't get it to debug. There is something missing.

Just so I'm on track here.
You have the same problem, not being able to attach the debugger to the device?
And you have your device unlocked through MFG or MS?
Is this a known problem with the Optimus 7 that should be addressed to LG and/or MS, I have seen just one more on these forums that has this problem, but I don't know if it's because others don't use VS2010 or if no one else has any problems at all.
I've had this problem on all WP7 versions so either it's an LG thing or I'm missing something too obvious here.

Unlock through MFG. Optimus 7 e900h.
I also thought LG is the only phone with MFG? Is that correct? If so it explains why we are the only ones with the problem.
EDIT: I started a thread here asking for help. Hopefully it will be seen as no one but us Optimus users use this thread.

X1 after restart always on 'Ring' only!

Hello everyone!
Since always I found that on my X1i (generic_uk 3AA) the Ring and Vibrate changes back to just 'ring' after a restart.
Is there any way to make this Ring and Vibrate "permanent" even after a restart? I looked into the Registry but did not find a proper value to mess around with ....
I had now 6 or 7 of those X1s and this last one is 09W23(!) and still does that.
Help is appreciated
What is this... nobody has the same problem and/or nobody knows a registry 'trick' or other means to solve that either?

(having that many phones wouldnt matter it would be a software bug if anything)
Just checked mine - after a restart it is still set to vibrate and ring
BUT i am running Vodafone UK - i actually prefered it to generic but since i am using a different rom i cant say properly although they are very similar - see what someone with the same firmware says.
Dont know how to fix though sorry
Hey, thanks for answering. I have voice command installed and a photo contact program that includes ring selections. Even though I don't use those, one never knows if these interfere somwhow.
But there should be some here who know a registry setting and/or have the same problem and solved it somehow.
In any case.... waiting for now....

well snice you are able to use marketplace i assume you already have your htc hd2 as a htc hd7, so now just incase you plug your phone to go your computer with zune, make sure you check to see if it's still unlocked cause sometimes it re-locks itself.
Unless you have done the reg edit in this guide (but described elsewhere too), it will relock. If that doesnt bother you then no worries, you dont need to bother.
If you want an unlocked device read this guide

I noticed that this update appeared on Zune. Think I'll wait till some of the experts here give us advice if this can be applied to the WP7 on the HD2
thats why i didnt install update afraid it might jack up my hd2.wait and see what the pros do
send a report to microsoft saying your hd2 cant update
lol, someone should try and use the update for there hd2 and tell us how it goes,
believe it or not, i wouldn't be surprised if some hd2's update good and some don't.
we'll let the dev's make a new rom for this than.
Seeing the same on mine.. runs through the process, then backs out the changes saying registry settings are invalid

yea i just connected my phone and the update popped up, i'll give it a try and post back up with what it says.
Same thing here with DFT build for HD2, registry error and it backed out.
lol Guys, why would the update work, as its meant for an HD7, not a reg hacked HD2.??? THe hardware specs are not the same so the drivers will have been changed/modded so it just aint gonna happen.
Dont bother trying to apply the update, we'll have to all wait until the new rom is dumped and re-hacked.
You will also know that the new rom will block chevron unlocking, although schaps is on the case, google for more info

Nice to hear this, either way trying wouldn't have hurt anyone.
I am using HD2 with WP7. Itried earlier to install the update, I have received an error.

Some people are just born dumb.
i hate to say i told you so but i cant resist.
I did say that there would be a way for MS to identify our HD2s, there will be some common reg entry or file in the original DFT release that they have scanned for and i got slated for it. oh well, going to have to wait for a updated ROM my thinks, and based on the fact that this update only changes the way in which our phones get updated i dont think there is any point in the slightest in installing this.

isn't that much of a big update, so it's really not worth it.

I'm see no reason why Microsoft wouldn't be able read your phone's IMEI before updating. It's a more reliable model identifier than anything in the registry, and will instantly tell them they're dealing with a HD2.
Indeed, not much point in trying to apply this update. At best, you gain very little (no new features). At worst, you're going to have to reflash.

How to Activate your WP7 - The Easy Way

Honestly, the only thing you have to do is call MS for a key, tell them you got a new HTC phone, and you can't get on the Marketplace. They'll give you the key after being on hold for 10 minutes or so. Just did it last night. This crap about registry edits and certs is baloney.
Worked fine for me, I didn't do all those wasted steps. No point in doing it. Get the key, save it, reuse it as many times as you want. Done.
Discuss.
What's the news?
Also you clearly didn't understand what registry edits and cert stuff is about.
Well, the phone's activated now and everything works 100%. Do explain your argument.
I think he dl the ROM with Chevron built in. So he is right to a certain extent.

Every now & then your phone automatically locks apps and dissables opening and downloading new ones. The thing is, to unlock it you will have to connect your phone to your PC and unlock it every time it get's locked. Unless you edit the registry so it will never lock again This whole activation with the registry has nothing to do with the LIVE and Hotmail activation. And about that, I think everybody here knows by now you can call MS for the free activation key. But this is XDA we like to tweek our way in, And for the most of us editting registry is easier than pissing straight in the toilet

Yeah exactly. Since you have WP7 you'll probably have that unlock tool right? Now I have to be honest I havn't tried the registry edit yet because I changed bacl to Android a while ago(I can't survive without Whatsapp haha), but if the story's are true that registry edit could fix some anoying problems with your apps. I'm sure you figure it out. And otherwise try youtube. I learned a lot of tweeking by watching simple totorials with all the links needed

Err. No.
It's a developer unlock, allowing you to sideload applications to your phone.
Activation
I activated via the chat function on the (dutch) microsoft support site. They didn't ask for an IMEI number just name and phone number.

ATIV SE

I broke my interop unlocked Ativ S. Instead of buying a new one I bought the Ativ SE from Amazon without a contract. I've read every post with "ATIV SE" in it and searched the forum for hours looking to see if any progress has been made with the ATIV SE.
The phone came unlocked, however I can not receive MMS messages or turn on internet sharing with out using a friends Verizon sim card. I have T-Mobile service which is the source of my issues.
Fiddler works to install most other manufacture APPs. I did a stupid thing though and upgraded the phone to windows 8.1 because of Cortana. The Nokia Access point will not install.
Is there anything that can be done with the ATIV SE yet? A lot of post say "all Samsung devices" but pre-date the Ativ SE's release. I've contacted Microsoft, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Samsung trying to figure out the issue or get the phone flashed with a generic ROM but support only wants to point fingers at other companies and rush me off the phone.
Any information is welcome. I've tried customizing the APN settings every way I could and had T-Mobile resend correct setting countless times and still nothing. Verizon did something with the ROM to make it miserable to use on another carrier. I can get the diagnostic app to install but it seems like codes have changed from the Ativ S.
I spent hours trying to get the correct LTE settings for T-Mobile and 6 weeks of frustration makes me want to go buy another Ativ S.
I can't recommend anything besides wait awhile. No work has been done on the device as its specifically manufactured for Verizon.
I would attempt to call Samsung. Say you got an update from Verizon and the spinning gears won't stop spinning after 5 hours. I've heard that Samsung has offered onetime flashing, but I don't remember where.
Once you get a GDR3 version of the phone, try editing stuff inside diagnosis or APNs.
Did you ever get your problem solved with the MMS or internet sharing? Im in the same situation.
Any help is much appreaciated.
Have the mms and Internet Sharing ever been solved for the Ativ SE for WP8 and Official WP8.1? I would like to buy one to use for at&t if it is.

I've been trolling the forums for months off and on. So far there's been progress but after FINALLY being able to roll the device back to WP 8.0 GDR3 and upgrading to the "real" WP 8.1 it looks like Verizon has made things much more difficult. The APN settings are locked and hidden. I was able to get LTE data working again, but MMS and Internet sharing is FUBARed.
Maybe I can't follow directions, but it seems like every way to edit the registry has been patched after upgrading to Verizon's version of the OS.
Root Tool is available in the APP Store, but I can't get it to function.
The Registry Key information that needs editing is readily available on the forum, but I haven't found a functioning method to do so.
If anyone has been able to successfully edit the Registry on an ATIV SE please provide the info on how you did it!
I have no idea how to use the MBN creator either.
What I have figured out is:
1) Able to flash device back to stock
2) Side load unsigned developer apps
3) Find necessary lines in Registry to edit
If anyone has a modded image that works with WP8_Binary_Downloader_Ver._3.54.exe, or can help me put the last pieces of the puzzle together, that would be awesome!

Yes. The Windows Insider APP was updated, so it closed that method of registry editing and Couldn't manage to get write access enabled for CustomPFD. If I could edit the registry the phone would be perfect.

Ok that make sense. So can you sent MMS still? I'm very close to buying this phone for at&t but without MMS and Internet Sharing, I might not, unless you or someone gets it solved. I wish I was a developer.
I tried it again for ****s and Giggles. I got tethering to work!
Am going to play with MMS next
Awesome job man! Keep it rolling. You just made me one more time closer to getting this phone ? Remember to write everything down ?
Root Tool works perfectly fine for me on an Ativ SE with 8.1.1. Unblock RPC by placing the txt file in the Documents folder, unlock your phone with WPPT, deploy the WPSystem unlocker xap, patch Root Tool using the provided instructions and a file explorer (I use Pocket File Manager, I've used others successfully as well), and then once you open the newly-patched Root Tool go to the install xap section, press install (without setting anything up), and it should say failed, but that's fine. Then you can use the included registry editors (the regular one and the Samsung-specific one) with dword and string values. Works fine for me, including interop unlock (but some deploy attempts result in capability errors because of the new security measures). Bootstrap works but not enableallsideloading (including the 2 versions posted later in the thread). All aesthetic changes work perfectly (small font/large screen, 5 action buttons, change model number, accent colors, etc). You can do pretty much anything you can do with an Ativ S, just remember you're slightly stifled by GDR3 and/or 8.1/8.1.1. Let me know if you have any questions or need help. With the small font/5 action button setup and the newest firmware, it's easily the best WP experience currently available. If we can figure out how to rotate the display 180 degrees, we can just enable the navigation bar (which works fine on the SE) and we'll not only have the usb port on top, but we'll also have access to 3 other buttons that can be remapped via the registry.
@tonbonz posted some info regarding using the SE with mbn creator:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60152150&postcount=56
I haven't attempted anything with this information yet, but I may later this week (possibly tonight), and I'll be sure to report the results when I do.
I'll be posting any info I get to this thread, so keep an eye on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/development/research-reference-samsung-ativ-se-sm-t3044123
Also, in regards to the potential issue of new updates breaking exploits, I've found an update lineage that results in the latest OS (8.1.1, OTA) with the stock/GDR3 FW (including the gdr3 diagnosis app, which is different from the 8.1 version). That isn't necessary yet, but it may be in the future and we can always flash back to gdr3 to get there.
Hey G.moe, thanks for the info, so is your MMS & Internet Sharing working with your ATIV SE then?
I managed to get my Internet sharing and MMS working, except I when I recieve an MMS it says file no longer available on server. I think I missed a setting somewhere.
does anyone have any idea where to directly edit the MMS settings in the registry?

Hi. I am using Ativ SE in India, everything is fine but for data i am getting only 2g speeds
I can even launch field test, looks like its blocked
Kindly help me
I just recently purchased an Ativ SE for use on T-Mobile. Like many of you I have been scouring the web for the best solution for the MMS fix as well so it gives me hope to know that through the registry editing it seems you've made some significant headway GTF696. From what I've been coming across this does seem like the most likely way to get this going especially since Verizon has already been duped in this on other devices like the Lumia Icon. Also I've come across a few post that mention having solved the issue and want to know if any one can confirm the method. I'm a new user so I can't post link but if you search "[Q&A] [Research and Reference] Samsung ATIV SE (SM-W750V) – Research and Development Apktop" in google the first link is from someone saying their method on how they setup the registry to workaround the MMS issue. Hope this is actually helpful and useful for all of us and gets us a step closer to fixing this issue
it's not perfect but the ATIV SE, after registration editing, does 100% work on T-Mobile. Unfortunately Verizon had Samsung heavily modify the OS and remove features that allow for APN Modification. The Methods I used should work with any GSM carrier however what you specifically need to do will be carrier specific. If you search for ATIV SE on the forum you should be able to find everything needed. Unfortunately, while the ATIV SE is one of the best windows phones available it's under valued, under supported, and Verizon made it a pain in the ass to use unless it's on their network. I wouldn't recommend this device to anyone, not even Verizon customers, for that reason.
The general idea of what I did was wipe the phone phone, Flashed the original Rom, upgraded the device Over the Air, and then installed the registry editor and customized a few strings. All of which has been talked about in detail on other posts. You HAVE to have an SD card.
