Here's an updated version from my earlier patch of thor's 1.7 recovery for the A510. This one has the proper mapping for the data partition (mmcblk0p10). I set the version number as 1.7b.
To recap:
Thor's 1.7 cwm recovery repacked with A510 stock kernel. itsmagic is disabled. overclocking does not work, since it's a stock kernel.
This is exactly the same as the one I repacked for the A200, but with the A510 stock recovery kernel and edited the kernel string to show when it boots. And also changed the fstab for /data to use mmcblk0p10.
You MUST unlock your bootloader before flashing this.
You can rename it to recovery.img and put it on your microsd card and use Acer Recovery Installer to flash it. Or you can use the following command in a terminal emulator or adb shell.
Code:
dd if=thor_recovery17b_A510.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
Give it a try and see if it works.

WARNING: If you downloaded the link I posted earlier that has MD5 of 1ded94b4b4f0522ca14b7070146d9a49, DO NOT USE IT! Download 1.7b above instead.
Edit: Updated to 1.7c to fix some mounting issues.
You MUST unlock your bootloader before flashing this.
please tell me how unlock A510.
thank you
Updated OP with new image to fix some reported mounting issues. Please give this a try. Also remember, that I do not have this device, so I rely on you guys to let me know what doesn't work. So far, the only feedback i've gotten is from NoThrills (Thanks buddy).

You must have the ability to send adb commands to the tablet.
adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
Then follow the on screen instuctions very quickly.

LOL... And there I was fixing it myself this afternoon I think we both noticed that 1 line that was missing in the fstab
After changing tab to use the named devices like the stock recovery, it seemed like it was having even more trouble, so I reverted back to the original fstab and just changed data to mmcblk0p10.
Is it working okay now?
is only for A510 ? if i try for A501 is can be?

strictly for the A510. It will not work on anything else! The data partition is in a different place.

Who knows. try repacking it with the stock recovery kernel. You'll also need to update the partition device for Data in recovery.fstab

He stated already. JUST for the A510 which is the new Tegra 3 tablet. Replacement for the old 500 series
recovery successfully installed.
and now? what is the next step ;-)
how to help people from there to go further in rom cooking and all that stuff ?
anyway, thanks a lot euclid's brother,
I thought this version of thors recovery was not GPL compliant. If it is not be careful, the angry hordes will decend on this thread and you will get banned. Even mentioning of the name of thor is enough to cause you grief.....oh wait, its recovery, not his rom, so those who have a bone to pick turn a blind eye...carry on.
If this is based on the work of a banned developer then I'm afraid we do not wish for it to be posted here.
I'd suggest taking an alternative recovery to amend.
I'm currently trying out a few kernels on my Nexus 4.
I'm currently running Franco's kernel but wanted to give Harsh's kernel a go.
Usually the kernels/roms I download are ZIP files, which work fine with TWRP, however, Harsh's kernel is an img file.
I found a previous thread that stated TWRP is compatible with img files & they can be installed fine - however - I only get the option to install a zip file. TWRP doesnt seem to be able to see an img file.
Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
Thanks.
IMG files are installed using fastboot. The command is:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

Thought so...
However, this thread does kinda makes out that flashing an .img through TWRP is possible.

(different phone, i know - but I thought TWRP worked the same regardless of platform)

We do not have the capability to flash .img files in recovery.

I do a lot of ROM/kernel flashing away from a PC. So its convenient just to TWRP without the need connect it the phone via USB.

Just noticed that theres two download links for the Harsh Kernal. Ones a zip (for flashing in TWRP) & the others a .img.
Didnt notice the first link!! :silly:

What you can do is fastboot flash system system.img.
system.img can come from a backup, a google stock image or make it yourself
So there is no way to flash an actual zip file via fastboot? I found this article here on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flashing_Guide_-_Android

Why would you want to? Flash recovery with fastboot and flash your ROM from there.

I want to be able to format my internal SD from TWRP which would wipe everything off the SD including any zip files then flash the zip from my computer from a command prompt with the tablet booted into the boot loader.

That's quite pointless to format everything... But in this case, you can adb sideload the zip from recovery. No need for the file on the sd card.

Only STOCK factory ROMs are flashable this way...
cf. this line from the flash-all.* script for the full factory image of Jellybean 4.2.2.. for 'grouper'.
Code:
fastboot -w update image-nakasi-jdq39.zip
In image-nakasi-jdq39.zip the following files are found...
boot.img
recovery.img
system.img
userdata.img

CUSTOM ROMs, however, can only be flashed via a CUSTOM RECOVERY, such as CWM or TWRP.
And as korockinout13 alludes to, it's a trivial matter to FASTBOOT FLASH a custom recovery... and then flash the ROM of your choice.
If you already have FASTBOOT (and your question suggests that you do)... then what's the problem?
Rgrds,
Ged.
The bootloaders of different Android devices have differing capabilities precisely because they are proprietary. Moreover, it is the bootloader that actually implements the heavy lifting of installs etc - the PC fastboot program does little more than send ASCII commands and push blobs of data across the USB cable.
Some Android devices have had bootloaders that understand how to unpack .zip files that contain other types of archives (.tar files, et cetera) but required that the .zip file is placed onto an external SD card using a standardized name for that device. (When the bootloader starts up, it would look for that file automatically). But this was for signed factory bundles, not for arbitrary aftermarket customization. In any event, this doesn't apply to the N7 afaik.
None of these behaviors are standardized though; each vendor decides how it will interpret and respond to fastboot commands from the PC.
The N7 bootloader clearly understands what a sparse ext4 image file is (for use with system.img and userdata.img files) - if it handled them as a pure binary blob, how would it be possible to use the same userdata.img file with 8Gb, 16Gb, and 32Gb devices? Moreover, the N7's "fastboot format" command clearly is capable of creating ext4 filesystems.
So would it be possible to create "sparse ext4" system.img/userdata.img image files corresponding to a custom ROM that could flashed in exactly the same way as the factory image using fastboot? Yes, absolutely. (I've done just that.)
But this is NOT the same thing as taking a custom ROM .zip file (intended to be processed by a recovery using an "edify" script) and flashing it with fast boot; it ain't that easy.

Better to stick with stock and not attempt to flash custom ROMs if you don't know how to use a custom recovery or toolkit.

Not a big deal. You need to download the factory image for your nexus 7 and find instructions on how to restore with fastboot. That will take you back to factory stock. Or another option is to fastboot flash TWRP custom recovery and use the adb sideload feature within TWRP to flash a custom ROM of your choice. You can find instructions on both of these procedures here at xda or with a simple Google search. Let me know if that works out for you. If you need more help I can give you a hand when I get home from work

hey guys, i just recently converted to an n4 and was messin around with it. i tried to revert back to stock using fastboot (stuck at x boot animation) and the nexus toolkit (stuck at "writing system"). i'm not sure what other methods there are but can anybody offer some insight as to why this may be happening?? thanks in advance
Forget toolkits. They can cause as many problems as they fix. Look for the revert to stock thread on here. It's good!
Basically you need to download the stock image from google then tag the enclosed text file that tells you which commands to run. Our just run the sh/bat file in the zip file.

So I work until 7pm tonight and I really need my phone. I flashed the mdl unlocked radios with mobile odin pro but I forgot I was on an international i9505 rom. so nothing is lokied my recovery isn't lokied my kernel isn't lokied anymore. the computers cant download anything here big cause its 1mbps they cap it to that on purpose. I have Odin on the pc here with the drivers. Is it possible to flash a loki kernel or recovery back to this phone without having to go back to stock MDL all over again and rerooting.?

my phone is softbricked I keep getting the AT&T unauthorized software message for recovery and booting... can someone here post a .tar AT&T stock kernel. im pretty sure if I odin that it will boot again because it doesn't need to be lokied.. so I can then flash a loki recovery and a loki custom kernel.
I am not sure about all your questions, but have you given any info on the phone you have. i337/i337m--recovery--etc
I seen folks have trouble with Mobile Odin. Don't remember which phone variant they had though.
I don't think radios require loki--?
There are flashable radio zips to install thru recovery not needing Odin
And flashable recovery zips too, TWRP 2.5.0.2

I dont think that will work...from what I understand odin omly flashes signed packages...if you take the kernel out and repackage it it will no longer have the same signed package...I could be wrong though
