Hi, got some problems with one of my employes Herald (not simlocked or anything).
It ended up on my desk after complaints about it rebooting by itself every minute or so. I figured I could sort it out by upgrading to wm6. Wen to HTCs website and downloaded the official RUU (HTC_P4350_SVE_4.17.413.2_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship.exe). Everything went along fine and I left it upgrading on my desk and went for lunch.
When I got back it said that the update had failed and I followed the recover function but without success.
Now Im stuck in bootloader mode, and when I try to update it again the current image version is listed as blank and I get to about 1-2 percent before it shuts down and gives "ERROR [244]: INVALID MODEL ID".
Any suggestions on what to do?

IPL 4.17.0001
SPL 4.17.0000
When i do a hard reset, after it says format complete it boots up and freezes with a green gradient across the screen.
You can try using USPL or HARDSPL to flash.
The USPL will get around CID locks
This is from ivan's A Herald's Guide to Flashing Aserg, USPL and HARD-SPL - xda-developers
II. How do I flash an NBH file?
Warning: To use the NBH ways, you MUST have a SPL of 4.0 or higher. If you have a lower SPL, you WILL brick your phone.
a. USPL
Step 1. Download Herald-USPL-Beta3.
Step 2. UnZIP the file into a folder on your Desktop. Let's call it "MyFirstROM" for simplicity's sake. Notice that there is a folder called RUU within this folder now. Keep that in mind.
Step 3. Download your NBH file and unZIP or unRAR it into that RUU folder. Make sure that that NBH file ends up in the RUU folder, not within a folder inside the RUU folder.
Step 4. Place your phone into flightmode.
Step 5. Go back to the MyFirstROM folder and then run USPL.exe
Step 6. Follow the directions on the screen. EXACTLY.
Your screen on your cell phone will go white around the 75% part of the "second step" now.
ActiveSync will LOOSE its connection.
Step 7. One step 3 on that black window, the RUU flasher will pop up. Just follow the steps.
That's it. Welcome to the flasher's world.
Thanks for the reply,
First, I cant get activesync to find the phone, only evidence of contact in between the phone and PC is that its listed as [Windows CE USB Devices+PocketPC USB Sync] in device manager. I tried to uspl flash with ASERG.8, and it stops at "STEP 1/3...."
I downloaded mtty to see if it could connect, and it did.
Any further suggestions on what might work!
uninstall..reset.. clean install would probably get activesync to work w the phone..
Reinstalled activesync without any change. And soft/hard reseted everything…
Tried to flash via sd as per instructions in another thread, got to "checking SD contents" and then straight to triple-color bootloader.
Help me please! ;D
Cant help getting the feeling that Im completely screwed...
Cant get activesync to recognize it, only way to get it to light up is via bootloader (camera + reset button), everything ive tried to flash it with hangs almost instantly.
As a complete novice my guess is that the current rom is corrupted and I badly need advice on how to go on. The sd-flash seems quite logical but I cant get it to work. Ive tried to overwrite my sd with 00-values in winhex and then placing the original ruu [HERAIMG.nbh] (through windows, is there a way to write data with winhex?) on the card without any success.
Any suggestions on what to try is much appreciated.
Sounds like the SPL got corrupted or partially written only... sorry. Repair center time. You can also placing your Stock RUU's nbh file into your SD card and renaming it to... umm.. I forget... and then flashing FROM the phone.
facdemol said:
You can't simply place the rom file to the card and hope the device will read it in this way. In my time working for pda service, we used WINHex to format the card (to RAW-unformatted) and then we wrote the rom file in RAW format to the card. Your card looks like an endless stream of hexazecimal values. Only winhex recognises this format, if you insert the card to the computer, it will simply ask you to format it. After inserting this card into the pda, it will start the upgrade . The order of this operation was, as I remember, to fill the card with 0000 values (there is an option in WINHex, a kind of format) then write the rom file to the card in RAW mode. Then insert the card to the device.

Thanks for the reply, before giving up and sending it in for repair I would like to give the sd-flash a proper try... So far Ive managed to format the card with winhex but I cant really figure out how to write to the card in raw format. Could anyone point me in the right direction?
i managed to do the steps said above ... formated the card in RAW format etc but still the phone won't turn on ... it will only stay in bootloader ...

Care to enlighten me on how you did that?
I've been reading a lot lately.. I wonder if the phones are savageble... something about flashing but bypassing the radio check... Also, the universal has an RUU that bypasses any checks before it flashes... this would be great for us to have... I'm asking around...

if you find it please tell us about it cos a lot of phones are getting bricked ...
If I'm correct, you told us a few post above thisone you placed your SD card with the imghera.nbh and got "checking sd conents" and then it went to bootloader.
As far as i can recall you need to get your Herald into bootloader first and then place your SD card with the IMGHERA.nbh file on it. Then it should start reading the image from, your SD card.
Judging from your first post you haven't been using the asigned RUU from the HTC website if this was your first rom flash to WM6 and you got a vendor error. Try to convert and use that one when you flash from sd card.

Ive tried all possible ways, if I pop the sd card in while already in bootloader, nothing happens at all.

Ive been trying to flash with the WM6 RUU I downloaded from HTC's site (the one that bricked it) since that is the only local (swedish) and official one I could find. Have I misinterpreted it all and the only thing that could do the trick for me is WM5.1?
Ive also been trying to contact the HTC service dept for over a weeks time ending up in a deadend overfilled voicemailbox - meanwhile my warrantyperiod ran out... Any suggestion on what to do?

Hi I try tu patch IPL/SPL with hard spl but with error, now my herald stuck in boot mode. IPL/SPL 1.09.0001. He probbably is from some russia operator (rusian diacritics on keyboard).
How can I try to make him alive?
Hi all,
I 've had my HD2 with T-Mobile UK for just over a month now... Love it, but as always the case with HTC phones, stock roms are noway near as good as cooked ones..
I have been flashing new roms with previous devices I owned (Wizard, S710, Diamond), but I am a bit hesitant with HD2. The reason is T-Mobile.. They told me that I'll invalidate my 2-year warranty if I do, so I was wondering is there a way to find the stock T-mobile rom and radio to go back if i need to send the phone out for repair?
Thanks and apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere.. I did search, only briefly I admit..
by far the easiest would be to dump (backup) what you have on it now [i think there is a tut in the blackstone forum]
then hspl and flash a cooked rom after that.
dumps from original roms are fairly easy to put back together with one of the kitchen packages

Hi sgiannis,
Try the following, look at Pagnell's post (#6)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=607584.
This is Version 1.43 (t-mobile) and is where i downloaded it from and it works fine.
First link in the first post of this sticky thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 is a shared folder for Official ROMs. I uploaded the T-Mob UK ROM into the 1.43 folder and it is the exact same ROM I keep on my storage card for warrenty purposes.
By the way, the best way to flash for restoring warrenty purposes is to extract the exe into a new folder, rename the RUU_Signed.nbh to LEOIMG.nbh and then place it in the root of your SD card. Enter into bootloader (hold the volume down when turning the phone on and then when prompted press the power button. This will restore your SPL, radio and ROM to the correct versions for warrenty. thanks guys.. appreciate that..
one thing:when you say place it in the root of my sd card, is that in any folder I choose or does it have to be somewhere specific? sorry if that's too basic..
you should format your sd card to FAT32 before you do this
so back up all your stuff on your computer so you can put it back on once youre done

Great then.. i cant wait to get back into the 'flashing industry' again will be a while though cause swamped with work..
thanks everyone..
i just recently got a new hd2 wich run 2.13 rom software and im haveing trouble getting it downgraded so i can put hspl on it. I know this has bean mentioned before and looked and tried everything i found abot it. My dads pc is a 32bit vista home edition can every time i load the downgrade it goes all the way into the set up and then gets stuck at 0% and then gives me a 262 error in like 5 mins. I know its a comunication error andi have tried every usb port on the pc. I am getting a clear sync and have no problems getting stuck on the boot screen. I just halft to reset everytime when it says it wont load. I have tried forceing it threw the boot menu but nothing works. The phone runs just fine still and i even did a hard reset to see if that would help.
Plz if somebody can help me i would be verry greatful and i am even willing to donate if i can get the mods for the phone up and running.
Plz respond as soon as possible.
at this stage it doesn't matter that the pc doesn't work...... because you should be flashing the downgrade from sd card anyway.
ok well i tried it once and it just went to a white loading screen and did nothing else. all i did was put the nbh in the sd card so if i messed up mind helping me out.
ok so i just tried exactly what your link told me and it wont go past the white loading screen. do i just had a bad stock rom or what?
did you rename the nbh to leoimg.nbh?
yes i did change and i still just cant seem to get it to go threw
you using the stock 16gb card? loads of posts say that card doesn't work. try an 8 or better yet a 2gb
i have tried i 1,2,and 4 gig and nothing works.
what rom are you downgrading it with?
When you downloaded the rom, did it come as an .exe or did it come as an .nbh file and customruu.exe together? Because if it DID then that wont work, it must be the .exe version.
I recommend the 2.10.0 from the thread
[ROM]Leo 1.5 T-MOBILE Test & Stock ROMS
Have you extracted the ruu_signed.nbh correctly? (you didnt just rename the .exe to leoimg.nbh did you?)
ALso try formatting your sd card, FAT32, not FAT, and for best results do a propper format, not a 'quick' format.
i have done a propper format and its on fat32. i have also extracted the nbh file with 7zip i did not just rename it and i got the rom from a thread that had all the old os versions on this site

assuming you mean THIS thread,, only the ones in that thread that come as an exe will work, the others will need hspl.
Hi Guys,
I'm kinda stuck here, hope you'll be able to help:
Situation is as follows:
I have an HTC Leo, and after 2 months of usage - got the white screen:
1. Tried soft reset - no good
2. Tried hard reset - no good
3. Cannot sync to PC with ActiveSync - does not detect the device
4. Can go to boot mode, but only with voulme down+soft reset button
5. Cannot sync in boot mode as well - there appears to be a "USB" writing at the bottom, (white line on boot mode) though ActiveSync does not detect via usb?
6. Tried to install HSPL2 - starts to install, never finishes, proggress bar goes up and down forever (on PC) - I believe device needs to be synced before installing?
7. Device is enabled in the device manager, though cannot explore - thus no access to SD card
8. Here we go, I seem to do something wrong, PLEASE HELP, I payed for the device about 400E in my country, stock warranty is not an option
9. HEEEEEEEEEELP
10. Thanks!!!
Try flashing the stock ROM for your HD2 via SD card. If you have a T-Mobile HD2 then go to T-Mobile.com to download the ROM you will have to enter the IzmEI number from under your battery to download it. If you have a international HD2 go to HTC.com and enter your serial number that is under your battery to getca list of ROMs you can download and install on your HD2. If the ROM is a .exe you will have to right click it and renamecthe file .zip to view the contents. After that follow the instructions in the thread linked below to flash the ROM.

[Q] Thanks
Hi, thanks for the info,
When I go to HTC homepage, i find "Rom Upgrades" - is that the same as the ROM itself?
Sorry if the q is dum ,I'm completely new in this
And also - does the card have to be empty (only ROM in) so that the phone boots it?
Thanks again

Yeah that is what you are looking for. The ROM upgrades is the most recent official ROMs out for the HD2. Just make sure you use your serial number to make sure you get a ROM that is for your HD2 or you will not be able to flash it unless you get HSPL on your HD2. Also make sure the HTC site you are on is for your part of the world, your country or the country the HD2 originated from.
[Q] Hi again, last q
When I Explore the contents of the rom I see numerous files, and reading the instructions you linked tells me to rename an image. The ROM is an exe, so I renamed it to zip , explored and currently I see only one .nbh file:
RUU_signed.nbh
Should I rename this one to LEOIMG.nbh and copy this file only to SD card? Or rename and leave there, take the whole exe and put it into the SD Card?
Would that be sufficient to run the ROM in bootload?
Thanks again brother, you're a lifesaver

Just take and copy the RUU_signed.nbh file make a copy ofcthe file and past it to your desktop and then rename it to LEOIMG.nbh then copy that file to the root of your SD card. All you have to have is the .nbh file but it has to be named LEOIMG.nbh.
You can also flash a radio, splash screen, and MAGLDR this way if need be. But you would still have to flash CWM via custom RUU via USB if you installed MAGLDR.

Great - now "Radio fail" - update terminated... any ideas?

Sorry I had to get some sleep, anyway I suggest you first make a backup copy of your SD card and then reformat your SD card using the Panosonic Mick SD card formatting software, just Google it you will find it. Do a full wipe of hour cardcand format it using Fat 32. Then copy the LEOIMB.nbh to your card and try it again. Also try to use a card no bigger than a 8GB as bigger SD cards are prone to give people problems when flashing via SD card. Note I did not say they will notcflash a ROM, bit they sometimes give people trouble.
Also I forgot to tell you this morning that if your HD2 says USB in the white bar of bootloader and it also says HTC USB sync in the device manager in the control panel of your computer, then you have a Sync connection to your computer but you can not use this connection for anything bit to flash different software to your HD2.
[Q] Hi Buddy, 10x for staying so long :)
Sorry brother,
I really appreciate your help so far.
Same Sh*t - even after FAT 32 format

Yeah maybe you got a bad download of the ROM. If that was the only official ROM you could down load. I would try to download it againcand delete the first copy you downloaded, or I would flash HSPL. to my HD2 and then try to flash the stock ROM are a custom ROM. Custom ROMs are better than stock ROMs anyway. Just remember though if you have a warranty and you need to send your HD2 in for warranty work or exchange you need to revert your HD2 back to complete stock. This means ROM, radio, and SPL.
After hours of searching I was unable to find a guide on how to return the HD2 to complete stock firmware. That being said, my HD2 is currently running CWM/NAND Android and I have a warranty exchange replacement coming. Can anyone offer me some info on flashing my phone back to the 100% stock WM 6.5 (this includes removing the Cotulla hspl)? I would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks!

Find original WM 6.5 that is for your phone, load into the bootloader (volume down while booting) and install original RUU file

Firstly, go to either HTC Website (for unbranded hd2) or to your carrier website (for a branded hd2).
Secondly, download the rom from there, and make sure the file you downloaded is not CORRUPTED due to interupted download or antivirus scanning.
Thirdly, charge your battery until at least 50% capacity. Turn off your hd2. Remove the micro sd card. Format it (after you back up all your data).
Fourthly, extract the downloaded file above, you can use 7zip or winrar or winzip. Find the file named: RUU_signed.nbh then rename it to: leoimg.nbh
Fifthly, copy the file: leoimg.nbh to the root directory of your micro sd card. (copy it using card reader)
Sixthly, insert your sd card to your hd2. Now, go into boot loader mode by: PRESSING the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON and the POWER ON BUTTON at the SAME TIME until the four color screen appear and let it become white.
Seventhly, follow the onsreen instruction to flash the rom.
Good luck......
