I live in fort lauderdale, FL where there is 4G coverage..I personally own an Evo, but my gf has an Epic. We can be standing right next to each other and my Evo will have good 4G and her Epic wont even find 4G..This happens in different parts of the city as well...any ideas? Maybe i need to update her prl or something? TIA guys
PRLs are for 1X and 3G coverage. Does this happen even when you are right next to the tower?
Not sure, idk where the towers are lol

I'm at&t user right now and considering to buy htc evo 4g with sprint.
All of my friends are using either at&t or verizon so I don't have any idea about sprint.
Is sprint 3g coverage in columbus ohio good enough to use?
Thanks for any advice.
on the sprint official website they have a coverage map.
When I went to Easton, the 3G works just fine. It works well in the Lancaster area also.
I seen somewhere that Columbus / Cincinnati are suppose to get 4G this year..
nice i'm in cincinnati oh
Cinci and Cleveland are first in Ohio, sprint.com/4g for more info.... good to know I'll have 4G when I come back to see the family.

I live in Licking County and for the most part coverage is very good. I get a couple bad spots when driving across the county...
I work in Columbus and get very good service but it can get spotty when inside buildings when in downtown Columbus. The weird thing is I'll be standing next to someone with at&t or verizon and their service is good.... I'm starting to think sprints signal is weaker and has trouble penetrating buildings bc of this! It happens to me all the time bc I'm downtown ALOT. Once outside of the buildings, my Sprint service is great and pretty decent 3G speeds.
I live in Columbus (westerville) and got an HTC HERO for my wife and used it for a few days, no coverage problems thoughout the easton(ish) area and also drive up past marysville on 33 and no problems on the drive.
I have since given her HERO up and am awaiting the EVO
To the poster above me: what sprint phone are you currently on and what phones were the other people using? You would be surprised on how much difference a phone can make in reception, not just the network
Im also near the cincinnati area in butler county ohio. Ive been wondering how far the 4g coverage would extend. In between cincinnati and dayton. ?? Any ideas?

I have seen near the same results from the samsung instinct to my current Palm Pre. With me Pre getting a little better signal than the instinct.
When noticing the differences with Sprint coverage versus at&t & the iphone 3G and the Droid on Verizon. I have noticed them getting much stronger signals indoors downtown columbus in a few different locations.
It kinda rubs me the wrong way but with the difference in $$$, I get over it b/c indoors in downtown columbus is my worst spot....I've already contacted Sprint about each location and they've marked it for a ticket and will research it.
So in a few areas including my work which is off of falkenburg and mlk. I can't get past obtaining ip.today I just get connecting.I've tried different things but no go...anyone else in tampa area

Thats interesting because I was recently in Orlando,Fl (East Colonial for fellow Floridians). I was playing with my amazing EVO and stumbled across a 4g network. I tried connecting but it wouldn't obtain an IP. I figured maybe my 4g on my phone was broken from a ROM or something. Or could it be a wireless network that the 4g is picking up? I have an Airave (free ) and that only sends 3g signal so where is this mysterious Florida 4G coming from???!?!?!?!?!?
I have been playing with this tampa signal for a while now. From what I understand there is a 4g like signal coming from some military communications system, also I have been told its the same thing in orlando. The orlando signal has something to do with the military and the lockheed martin plant there. Not sure how true it is but my source works in communications in central command at macdill afb. Fyi clearwire is the provider for this military system.

Same thing here in orlando, The 4g signal is pooping up everywhere, Sources tell me it will be live the first week of august. Right now in time, the only people that can connect to it are the technicians that can manually connect to the IP for testing. It will be offically live in september, but they will open the ip adresses in the first week of august. And Yes you are right on the Clearwire thing, thats the signal we are picking up.
I can't pick it up bc of broken 4G due to a custom ROM but my coworker here in Maitland, close to Orlando, picked it up today. I'm heading home after work to fix my 4G :-D

Well if sources hold true that'd be great! Too bad I live in Lake County No 4g n probably never will here but wicked fast 3G in Okahumpka!
i live in the st. petersburg area and i keep getting the same thing as well :|
Why is it that sprint over the years has only put 4g in PARTS of new york. New York is a pretty big state and has many parts. im located on Long Island and theres no 4g at all. so far the only 4g iv seen in new york are very small parts in the city.
Give it some time...my cuzin lives in LI and he has no 4g also...but manhattan is the best for 4g reception everywhere else is kinda shifty with 4g service for now anyway.
I'd love some 4g in Nassau county please!

I can report..
Theres definitely 4G in the Financial District, Midtown West, and a couple of parts of the Bronx. I actually get 4G in my new apartment which was great when I didn't have cable internet yet. I was able to play COD: Black Ops over tether!

yeah thats where i live also, nassau county. The funny thing is, the company i work for OWNS the legal rights for 4g in nassau county. So if phone companies want to put 4g anywhere on nassau county they have to lease the rights for it from my company.

I get good 4G in the large majority of Midtown only... Everywhere else it's either on and off always or just slow as turd.
(This was about 2 weeks ago when I took a break from CM to run Calkulin's, so I don't know if his ROM is a factor or not and I've since gone back to CM so my results are a bit inconclusive.)
Getting 4g right now in LIC.

Im in manhattan and service is sweet.

I'm in midtown and 4G is horrible anywhere indoors in Manhattan due to the 2.5Ghz frequency and tall buildings.
That made my decision to switch to CM7 (no 4G support) about 100 times easier. I just don't care until they get it together.
I live in Brooklyn and i get full 4G everytime I'm outside... inside i mostly get 1 or 2 bars
Westchester cty
I live/work between Yonkers and White Plains, and my phone rarely drops back to 3g. I've been tethering at a steady 5-6 Mb/s.
-Evo 4G
Basterds!!!! I'm 40 mins west of albany, I'm expecting 4g in the fall of 2192.
We just got 3g 1/27/11 and wondering if sprint upgraded from 2g to 4g? I don't have an evo to check, its not listed on Sprint's 4g cities
It would be a shocker to wait this long for 3g and find we got 4g
My guess is we would have to wait on Clearwire to get 4g not Sprint?
Not that this means anything but .. 4G sprung up at I10 and College St in Beaumont, TX, just to your West, a few weeks ago. It seems to be 1 - 3 towers worth of coverage around that address.
Unfortunately coverage does not seem to be expanding yet.
Check out Lake Charles, LA on this map: clear.com/coverage. It looks like there is a 4G tower online, but it's just like Beaumont .. very weak coverage so far.
(Sorry can't post links yet)
nope
Don't see Louisiana listed?

In lake charles works great inside mall and around Ryan & prien lake rd farther out you have to be by a window or outside. Speed max is 5 mbps down 1 up
yes
T-Mobile is going to be the first to officially have 4G in Lake Charles
i recently found out it is available now (i blogged about it here)
but once the speeds can be considered true '4G' it will be the first in southwest Louisiana =]
I'm getting it in the Lake St/ Sale Rd area. It was one of the first things I checked when i got my EVO 3D. In fact, I'm on it now walking around my neighborhood.
look again
I'm in south Lake Charles on my 3vo with no 4G and has not worked anywhere. It shows 4G antenna on but its still on 3G.

In the mall yesterday, I got good and strong signal. According to opensignal, I'm connecting to sprint wimax. Speedtests are over double 3G.
sorry
sorry but I will have to see it for myself, heck we just got 3g 1/27/11 on Sprint, one of the last cities in the US to get 3G. I don't think we'll get 4g anytime in the near future

In south central LC along the 210 loop it's there. Opensignal shows connection to Sprint WIMAX, as does the 4G connection. It's not official, but it is there.
i think the downtown area has had it for a while, but finally i can get a (very low signal) right here inside my home (hickory hill area). There must be a second clearwire tower somewhere around here. The speed of course sucks, i got this speed when 3g was released 4-5 years ago. :\
myns rls 5 with PRI 1.90_003, PRL 01115, RADIO 2.15.00.11.19
i plan on trying the new leaked radio/rom to see if signal gets better, but i doubt it. is it worth the try??
Are you sure about this? I live downtown and I can't get a signal. Sprint doesn't list Memphis as covered. I know Clearwire covers here, but they don't sell plans here yet.
I hope so I will be back there in two weeks for the bbq contest

update: i found the 4G tower.. its being broadcasted from my local sprint tower a couple blocks away.
heres screenshots of the max speeds i was getting at full/semi full bars
the location of the tower is at knight arnold and perkins, on top of the teachers credit union building.

Go by Clear.com coverage map, Sprint only shows official cities and even then they rarely update it. Wimax is open, so wherever Clear shows coverage you can use it.
You're right. I get a very, very weak 4g signal in a few parts of downtown. It isn't consistent enough to use reliably and I don't get it at all in my condo.
