Battery Drain from WiFi - Epic 4G General

I'm sure there are others who have experienced this problem. Even though I show no wake locks my phone drains at an unacceptable rate while on my Wifi at home. My phone can have a 60% battery when I go to bed, and be almost dead by the time I get up. The only clue that shows up in Android System Info or Spare Parts is network usage by '0' which is something with root access.
This is happening regardless of Rom. I've tried stock, Syndicate Frozen, Urban Fury, Bonsai, Stock Plus, and maybe another I'm forgetting. They all drain the crap out of my battery with wifi on at home so obviously this isn't a rom issue.
This leaves me to believe that either something on my network is forcing data to my phone keeping it from deep sleep, or the router itself is the cause. Turning on my phone to 3G, my battery life is spectacular overnight. It deep sleeps like it's had a case of beer with a bottle of nyquil as a chaser before bed. 1% an hour.
So, I've ordered a different router to see if that's the issue. I've googled my current router which is a D-Link DIR-655 and seems like others have had similar battery drains using that router but no one can emphatically say it for sure is the router. Guess we'll see when the new router arrives if it is indeed the DIR-655. Otherwise the next step is disconnecting everything else that is connected to my network (3 computers, 2 printers, XBox, Wii and a Blu-Ray player. I just wanted to point out to anyone else having issues with wifi and weird battery drain, that it may not be the phone that is the problem.

I too have massive battery drain when using Wifi. It doesn't matter what Wifi network I'm attached to (work/home/friends/etc), I burn about 10% + per hour on idle; whereas on 3G is burning only ~2%/hour on idle. On stock, Wifi was my battery saving grace.
I've just given up on using Wifi for daily use. I use 3G for everything now.
I hope the newest version of SFR (whatever the new one will be called) will remedy this problem I have. I haven't posted about it in the rom thread since I had a feeling it was just my phone or another bad flash in CWM.

I've been using that OS Monitor app to try and find the problem. On 3G all the network interfaces have static receive and send amounts as long as I'm not doing anything that requires data. Connected to my home wifi, there is a constant trickle of data.
When I let the phone sit overnight, there was over 4mb of data received, even if I turn off any kind of auto syncs on the phone.

wifi settings
Don't know if this will work for you but you can try. In the wifi settings click the menu button and select advanced then set the wifi to never sleep. I know it's counter intuitive but I went to sleep last night at 61% and woke to 57%. Wifi has been fine for me since changing that policy in the wifi advanced settings.

Mine has been set at never sleep since I got the Epic in September, and I double-check after each custom rom flash. Good looking out though.

Same here. Mines always been set to never sleep.
Edit: I just tested my phone on my work's wifi network. CPU Spy says it's going into deep sleep just fine. OS monitor shows a static data received/sent number once I was connected. Obviously something about my home network is the problem.

That is my general experience, too. These settings usually keep my WiFi usage low overnight.
But some nights, inexeplicably, I will wake up to find a large battery hit from WiFi. I don't think it is my WiFi router's problem, unless there is some outage duirng the night I am unaware of. Come to think of it, I had that problem last night but did not investigate early this morning before I left. When I get home, I will check with my laptop to make sure my router is running.

I have noticed this too and in particular over the past few days. I'm on the latest bonsai build which does have amazing battery life on 3G but now wifi does draithe battery much more than 3G. This never happened before. I have had my wifi set to never sleep. Any other suggestions?

Obviously haven't tested it overnight yet, but I shut down my one laptop and the constant data trickle immediately stopped. Right now it's looking like something my computer is running might be the culprit. Going to leave it sit overnight to see how it goes.

I found the cause of my drain! Narrowed it down to something from my laptop as when I shut my computer down at night, the drain would go away. The culprit was the HP Printer software for my wireless printer. Once I uninstalled it, the drain went away. Noticed in resource monitor that HPZinw12 was sending a constant stream of data from my computer. Why in the hell it would be also sending to my phone keeping it from sleeping seems pretty odd, but I recommend if anyone else who is having battery problems over wifi and happen to also have an HP printer, you might want to look into this as well.

I'd also add that my solution to getting rid of the problem and still being able to use my printer was just to uninstall the crappy HP software that came with the printer and add the printer through the control panel and let windows 7 install it. It doesn't throw on that HPZinw12 file that apparently polls the entire network constantly.

Since I have been experiencing similar symptoms intermittently and I also have a WiFi printer, I have tried to eliminate this as a potential cause. (I don't run an HP control app on my laptop, but already map the printer directly in Windows 7 like you suggest.)
In my case, I still get the excessive WiFi battery drain, and low battery level upon waking, sometimes overnight. But other nights the problem does not occur. So lately I have made sure that my laptop and printer are powered down before bedtime. And like you, a always have my WiFi sleep policy set to "never" and have a strong WiFi signal. But last night I still had the problem, and awoke to find the battery drained to 45 percent instad of its typical 90 percent.
Interestingly, I noticed not only high WiFi battery usage but also high "Cell standby" usage attributable to the well-known Time Without Signal problem -- and this despite my habitual use of the Airplane toggle workaround, which usually works.
Somehow, something caused both WiFi and cell radios to go crazy overnight.
BTW, I run a stock, unrooted Epic.

So far with SRF v1.1.1, my Wifi is back to normal.
On my work network, I've dropped 4% in 3.5hours with my work email syncing every 15mins. So that's pretty good usage given that sync interval.
I also do not have a printer at home, so the printer bit wouldn't have been a cause for me.

While the printer thing took care of the biggest problem for me, I still don't get as good of battery life overnight leaving my phone on WiFi rather than 3G. There is still something my computer is doing that wakes my phone up occasionally, but at least I'm not going to bed with a 70% battery then waking up to a dead phone. At least I have it narrowed down to one computer (total of 3 on my network), as when I shut that particular one down battery life for my phone is back to 1% an hour while sleeping. If I had to take a guess at this point, might be something with media sharing as I use that one as my primary location for music/videos to stream via Windows Media Center.

How do you know it is your computer? Have you tried just turning it all the way off?
Do you watch the services running on your phone? I routinely stop the DRM service, for example.
Except for the mysterious episodes when I experience this intermittent problem, my overnight battery usage is typically about 1 percent per hour.

I've tested over a few nights with a mostly full battery off the charger and reset the timer on CPU Spy. The nights I shut that computer completely off, I get very little battery drain and the phone is mostly in deep sleep according to CPU spy. When it's on, the phone shows a good chunk of CPU at 800mhz and more battery drain.

What is killing my battery life?

My 8125 is suddenly running out of batteries very fast. I suspect this is because of some activity running - if I turn the unit off, and leave it on my desk overnight, it is exhausted by morning (I, on the other hand, am exhausted by morning only if I am turned on. Sorry.)
I have checked for:
alarms and notifcations that are set to go off - there seem to be none
mail and other internet access items - there seem to be none
programs (like SPB Weather) updating themselves too frequently - there seem to be none
My energy settings are normal; sleep in one minute, backlight down, etc.
Is there anything I'm missing? Any suggestions?
wifi, bluetooth. make sure they are turned off.
That's exactly, WiFi and BT even when active in standby really drain the battery quickly.
thanks so much, but.... Wifi and Bluetooth are off - I never turn Wifi on, and I almost always keep Bluetooth off (though I wish there was a way to quickly - or even automatically - turn it on or off, ie, whenever I use it in phone mode, BT would turn on, and when I hang up, it turns off.)
any other thoughts?
Battery Gone Bad
Hey I think your battery is gone bad.
BT Off
Wifi Off
Backlight Down
Sounds to me battery is ready to go to the recycle bin lol
Also check your MSN Msnger Is not onn all the time.

maybe it is the battery. the unit is less than a month old, but I just bought a spare battery. I'll compare run-down times on both.
a related question: why would WiFi and Bluetooth consume battery power if the unit is asleep?
-thanks-
I started getting horrible life out of my battery as of last month, but then I upgraded the ROM on it and have been getting FANTASTIC battery life. Better than when I first got the device.
which Rom did you upgrade to?
Summter <sp?> 2.3 for Cingular

Did you solve your battery problme?
when i am out in the country, where i might rarely get a signal, my battery drains real fast, prob to do with the constant searching for a signal to connect to.
I came upon this thread after my 8125 began having problems with the battery life last week. I'm wondering what kind of battery life people are getting and which settings they have.
For instance, before last week, I was getting little battery drainage during a 9 hour shift at work. Then this week, I was getting close to 55% battery drainage over the same duration. Just a few moments ago, I checked my battery settings and I found out that for some reason, my phone wasn't shut off after 2 minutes of idle time as it was originally set at. Okay, I'll test my battery usage tomorrow at work, but I suspect that was the problem.
Then it got me wondering how long other people have for battery life. With Bluetooth on, wifi off, lowest brightness setting and my auto shut off set at 2 minutes, I was able to last an entire 9 hour shift on standby with only about 4 - 5% drop in battery life. Hopefully, that is what I'll have tomorrow when I test it again with the auto shut off setting in place. What are others getting for battery life (please specify your settings).
I've forgotten to charge my phone at night before, and have had no problems making it through the second day of usage, though I'll usually get a low battery warning.
I keep Bluetooth and data connection on constantly. Don't use Wi-Fi unless I need something really quickly. Backlight is at the lowest active setting. I would say I use it moderately throughout the day. I use it to take important notes and make reminders for myself, along with surfing the internet without worry.
hi
Please check out activesync which drains the max battery..
make sure that activesync is not running in backround. once after disconnecting your mini-usb cable connectivity from PC please check for the activesync status.. if running turn it off.

T-Mobile Wing Battery HUGE Drain When Radios OFF?

you guys are such geniuses here, maybe you can help me with this:
has anyone notice that on the TMOBILE WING, if you TURN OFF ALL RADIOS (phone, bluetooth, wifi) at night when you goto sleep (flight mode), battery at 100%, the next morning when you wake up the battery will be around 50-60%? ironically, if i leave my cellular radio on, the next morning the battery will be at 98% or 99% even 100%... does anyone know what is wrong? I've heard a few other users complain about this issue... this is a serious bug
call me paranoid but i rather have my phone off completely off at night, we get enough radiation from wifi, cellular, bluetooth daily already lol
THANKS
can someone please reply and let me know if their wing loses a big percentage of the battery overnight when cellular radio, wifi, bluetooth are all off?? if this is only my phone then i need to get tmobile to send me a replacement asap...
cnet review had the same issue when they reviewed this phone a few months ago and they said it was a bug that should have been fixed already by wing's release date.

do you use spb mobile shell?????
i heard that with spb mobile shell the battarie goes empty within some hours.... also over night! maybe thats the problem

no i dont use that, t-mobile is sending me a new unit, i will see if it still does that....
got my new unit from tmobile today, funny thing, the wing and battery now both says MADE IN TAIWAN. the original one i got from tmobile 2 weeks ago is made in china, so was the battery. hopefully this is the cause will have to leave it overnight with the cellular radio, bluetooth and wifi all off to see if the battery still disappears
...if you use any push mail service (exchange, windows live), but disable the radio, your device is trying to connect to the mail service on and on and on. so if you use any of that services, make sure you disable them too in your comm manager settings as soon as you switch the radio stack off...
cheers, lutz

you make an excellent point! but i don't use any of those, the email i do have, is pop3 and i've set it to check email manually, meaning only when i click send/receive. i'll know if it's a software or hardware issue once i try this new replacement overnight with all the same apps installed as the previous one.
Having the same issue with my Wing
I ran a test last night, turned all radios off (flight mode showed on home)
Battery was at 99%. In the morning it was down to 56%. My wing battery is made in Taiwan, and the phone is made in China.
Are you still having the same problem with your replacement Wing?
Thanks!

Finally someone who has the same issue, now i know i'm not crazy! I just ran the test on my replacement wing, it still does the same thing!!! I woke up with only 54% battery remaining from 100%
1 thing i can eliminate is, this is definitely NOT caused by batterystatus plugin, it had this problem before i even installed that program.
my other none t-mobile included programs are:
skype
phatnotes
tcpmp player
thunderhawk browser
(none of those 4 programs are running in the background) and i went to sleep with a brand new soft-reset and made sure no programs were running in the background. i do however always have an alarm set to go off at 11am every day, but if this is what's draining the battery, then this phone is in some serious need for patching...
i'm seriously thinking this is a hardware issue or a system software bug, i think a lot of ppl don't notice cause they don't go into flight mode overnight since most of them don't care about cellular radiation lol i think 8-10hrs a night without cellphone radiation can only be a good thing, even if all the billion dollar profiting corporations that sells these things wants you to think it's safe
same thing happens to me, battery went from 100% to 50%ish overnight... this doesn't happen if you turn off all radios on your phone for only, say, 2 hours... weird thing... we need some experts of this forums to take a look at this issue, it's bugging me too
Huge battery drain on win phone of mode solved
OK, so not really solved, but figured out what the problem probably is, and a workaround. It's definitely a bug in the way the application is written.
I think the logic the way it is now is something like this:
If phone app is turned off
"Signal object" reports no signal available
Problem is, the "search for and find signal" object is not told to stop looking! And so, it tries to find a signal all the time the phone is off, draining the battery.
To test this, I switched the phone from Automatic network to Manual. This is under "Comm, Settings, Phone, Network". In Manual mode, the battery does not drain.
Of course, being in Manual mode has its disadvantages if you are traveling through roam areas where T-mo is not the carrier.
I uninstalled the t-mobile hotspot login utility and with all radios off, went to sleep (battery at 92%) for about 8 hours, now the battery shows 91%... don't know if that program is the culprit of all this, will test again tonight.
if this don't work, then i wouldnt mind switching my network to manual when going to sleep then switching it back to auto when i wake up

have you actually TESTED this or are you just guessing? test your theory overnight and we'll see if this is the case, i don't think it is since this is a HTC phone and no other HTC phones have this issue, unless they somehow managed to mess up on this model :\

I can only agree with half of your statements. You are NOT the only one with this issue... but being crazy? You'll have to answer that one yourself.
Now then, the method of switching the network from Automatic to Manual sounds promising because if it's actively looking for networks, even though it has already located one, would continue to drain the battery. I will be the guinea pig for this one and report back in about 12 hours (with this problem, my battery won't even last that long lol). I'm also going to set my SMS/MMS settings back to manual as well.
If I uninstall the T-Mobile Hotspot login utility, how would I go about REINSTALLING it?
bah, i thought i had it, but i didnt, i uninstalled the tmobile hotspot utility and this morning i was greeted yet again with 50% battery remaining... i don't know what happen the other night when it didnt drain to 50% but i suspect that it was because i had turn it on once in the middle of the night when i went to the bathroom.
so someone help us please!!!
Switched all network modes to manual, left the house at 8:30pm with a 66% charge, got home at 11:30pm with a 32% charge... and I didn't even use the phone!
The odd thing? When I was charging my phone, it said 50%... but once I unplugged it from the charger, it shot up to 66%. Perhaps there's absolutely nothing wrong with the battery and it's just having problems measuring an accurate amount of juice in the battery?
Either way, 10% juice in 1 hour is absurd... this thing is supposed to have a 200 hour idle life and we're not even getting 1/10th of that!
*EDIT* Hmmmm! I just checked my network mode and it went BACK to automatic for some reason! Perhaps it goes back to automatic after a soft reset? Eh...

lol i find it weird that everyone leaves their phones on at night when they goto sleep with the cellular radio blasting out unneccssary radiation, this has gotta be the case since not many ppl noticed this MAJOR flaw with the tmobile wing...! if you were expecting important calls at night then i understand why the phone must be on, but besides this reason, i wonder why the others leaves the cell radio on
Personally, I always charge my phone overnight, because during a days usage I often run it down to 50% to 30%. Thats about 12 hours a day in my pocket, just a few inches away from one of my most important body parts. If you're worried about nighttime radiation, consider this: if you go overnight and only drain 2-3% of your battery, it shows that the unit is transmitting very little, with not a whole lot of that radiation you are worried about. If you are still worried, turn it completely off, it only takes a minute to turn on when you wake up. If you use it as a morning wake up alarm, or have other needs to have it on overnight, try pulling the sim card, see if that helps.

Battery drain while idle - "suspend" process

Hello,
When I got my SGS it only ate 2-3% of the battery during the night. Since then I've tried many different firmwares, currently on the latest JM6, and all of them have had a very annoying problem. It eats 8-10% of the battery during night. I haven't changed anything, wifi is "always on" to avoid it eating battery using 3G. Ofcourse I've tried turning it off, too. The funny thing is that using Spare Parts it seems like it's the "suspend" process using a lot of CPU, which I believe it definately shouldn't. Some times after flashing it seems okay and can sleep properly, but then it goes haywire again - without having installed anything since it worked. Anyone else having "suspend" process using a lot of CPU?
To test, install Spare Parts. Plug in the charger, and remove it again to reset stats (Spare Parts uses some system app to show the CPU usage, and its default view is "since last unplugged", very practical). Go to bed. Sleep. Wake up. Start Spare Parts. Select "Battery History". Click "Other usage", select "CPU usage". Wait for half a minute or so (it needs to load data, if you click anything now you won't get CPU time used). Find the "suspend" process. Check how much CPU it has used.
I might add, that this doesn't seem to have anything to do with wake locks, it's something strange in the system itself.
try next time with all unecessary items off

Thanks, but I've noticed something strange - still checking, but it seems as if I haven't got my SD card inserted, it looks okay...
I use JM5, Wifi Always on, 3G Always on, Auto sync off when unnecessary.
I was working at the polling booths on Election day here in AU, that's from 7:30AM till 11:30PM, I didn't really need to use my phone for anything, but when I got out 16 hours later I noticed that I had only lost about 3-4% battery.
It's pretty good. D:
For the record:
Bluetooth - This only needs to be turned off if there are devices that auto-pair with the phone, such as a bluetooth headset, in which case you probably want it on anyway?
GPS - This does not need to be turned off as it only uses battery when a service is actively requesting a gps fix. For example if you have Maps open it will drain more battery, but it won't on standby unless you are using Location tracking software or otherwise location aware software.
WiFi - Truth to be told, WiFi when connected uses less power than a 3G connection on standby. WiFi does have the potential to use a lot more power than 3G because of the higher speed potential over a local wireless network. In most cases it's pretty safe to have WiFi always on, however it should be noted that when WiFi is NOT connected it will constantly scan for access points to connect to, this process uses power ON TOP of 3G, so it would be wasteful to leave this on unnecessarily unless you were using it for Google Location services via WiFi access points.
3G Data - The only reason this 'uses power' is because it's a always-on connection, you can partially remedy this by giving WiFi always-on priority saving both mobile data quota and some power. 2G uses a lot less power than 3G simply because it uses the GSM chip in the phone, not it's own higher power chip. So switch to 2G if u don't need high speed data, but want always on Push notifications and such. (EDGE is fairly fast, but I only get GPRS and 3G on my carrier. )
Brightness - This phone has a super bright screen, use something in the lower settings, auto brightness at day if you want.

I've got bluetooth off all the time, it's currently running a very new install of JM6, and I haven't installed anything that runs when I don't want it to run. 3G isn't used, as wifi is always on (advanced wifi settings).
It's around 7 hours since I pulled the plug, after having restarted phone after removing SD card, and the suspend process isn't even on the list anymore... I find this quite interesting - it might just be a coincidence, but right now it looks like there is some kind of problem with suspend process when SD card is in... Do you have an "external" SD card in your phone?
ive just flashed JM1 and hate how much power its using... no idea what the problem is, but ive just come off the official JM1 from Kies, and had a big problem so had to flash the first thing i could find. can this really be down to firmware?
i mean im really noticing a difference on standby, before id loose like 3-4% in a whole day of not using it, now it drops 10% in like a few hours...

i do use 16GB class 6 external SD from Transcent
MoWa22,
I had this happen to me last night and (am stock DXJG04) so very interesting. Trying to remember what my battery drain was last night but I think it was around 10-15% and previously I would get 1% if I turned everything off except being able to receive calls.
I always thought these issues were related to wake locks or that the phone just cannot sleep. Something to try is to reboot the phone and check the battery power before going to sleep and see the battery drain over the night. If minimal battery drain, then maybe it is a rogue app which you may have opened/used during the day. If same 8-10% drain, then am guessing some service or inbuilt process is causing issues.
Half the battle is trying to track the CPU hog or rogue app.
Dang. Lost almost 10% again tonight - but actually the "suspend" process almost didn't use any CPU, SD card still not in phone. Using the built-in battery usage thing, it has cell standby on top, phone idle right below. This is really starting to bother me...
Last night while I turned off APN, Wifi, GPS, etc, I left my phone on as 3G only. I've heard the switch between 3G to 2G causes extra battery drain so I had left the phone on as 3G only. I know 2G is lot less of a battery strain but wonder if it affects cell phone standby. Going to leave my phone on 2G tonight.
I have 3G and sync on. I have weather and feed widgets updated every hour. Plus some other widgets and Google Latitude which I know is using cpu time. My drain is about 1 to 1.2% drain per hour of standby. Firmware DJG4.
I think you dont need to bother too much if battery drains 1-2% per hour on standby (this gives you at least 2-4 days if you use the phone very little). Any more than this means you may have some rouge apps/widgets.
The more critical is the usage time (i.e. with screen on). This is usually like 15-20% drop per hour of use.
Been testing a bit again - this night I had a total of approx. 1% battery used in 9 hours. Still without SD card. I inserted the SD card one hour ago, and I've lost 5-6% already - and suspend process is on top of the list again... Definately something weird going on when SD card is inserted! Please, can anyone test with/without SD card and check for differences?
I spotted this thread and read with interest as last night I noticed my power dropped "unreasonably". I've not started any troubleshooting yet but I am curious about the SD card thing.
Have you tried having the SD card in, but unmounted? Does it still suck powere when unmounted?
Obviously unmounting it is a simpler and quicker process than removing the cover and then physically removing the card.
Mark.
Upgraded to the new Froyo today, seems to be without suspend problems even with SD card. Gotta check how much battery it'll eat during the night.

How did you manage that? Everything off? auto-sync off? Wifi? 3g? 2g?
I'm on jm5 with Samset 1.9f and for all the time ive had this phone it has only used 2% battery overnight. Exceptional cases were when i used Fancy Widget, it ate up all my battery overnight leaving me with nothing for the next day. Have stopped using it ever since.
Nowadays, my battery drains heavily when screen is on(when im using the phone). Drains roughly about 1% for every 2 mins im using it, but standby time is still great at 2% overnight...

And do you by any chance run without "external" SD card?

The new Froyo beta JPC. Same settings as always - WiFi always on (which by the way seems to be default setting on JPC). Everything else standard (it won't switch to 3G while using WiFi).

Discovery about battery drain

- I discovered that if you are online the battery is not drained a lot during sleeping mode (about 1% for 8 hours)
but if your are CONNECTED to your wifi spot and not have internet connection then the drain will increase by 20 times... (20% for 8 hours)
I use at home a wifi hotspot require to be logged in to can go online, and I forgot to log in last time.... then I saw my battery goes drained faster than normal.
go to sleep : 75%, wake up after 8 hours 55%... I was very surprise, I thougth that was the kernel (I ve just updated from 1.11 to 1.2 thor) but after checking I see that wasn't the kernel but just the fact that I forgot to login to the hotspot..
So
- if you let wifi on always, be sure the internet works properly else your battery will be drain
- if you cut the wifi before sleeping well nothing more have to be done
the fact also is the battery is not drained by let the wifi on always, if you are not browsing or downloading, the drain is really really low...

What is there not to understand? I thought it was clear enough.......
i just did 48 hrs on with 4-5 of use...wifi is set to go off when tabket does. (After a min) ...so I guess this is not good?

Mine is set go off when screen times out. I do not think that always happens. Sometimes I hear notifcations even though the screen is off and wifi isset to go off when the screen does Other times i see a significant baterry drain after a few hours sleep
so never sleep is better than off with screen? Just trying to make sure I understand
never off but connected to wifi with internet connection = low battery drain
never off but connected to wifi without internet connection = high drain 20 times higher than previous
for me doesn't see big matter between sleep off wifi and sleep on wifi.

The above underlined is the equivalent to having cellular/data searching for a network...etc
ie. as with my Nexus One ( Android phone )
At my work, due to interference, I cannot received a cellular/data connection.... if I leave it on ( cellular/data )... it spent times searching & searching until it gets a signal....and if you have something that need syncing, it add to to drainage multiple times...therefore.... faster battery drain then if you do have a data connection. ( I usually have it on airplane mode where I know that I won't get a signal. )
I have tested this theory and proven it numerous times in the past while trying to make my battery last longer with my phone ... our A500 is the same when it comes to Android and battery lasting
You have a kinda weird HOME network setup ?
Most people set their HOME network with a key and get connected with the key & devices remember them... why bother with a login ?... I guess some people won't even trust their own network... LOL
Common in thailand to have a hotspot setup, since it's expensive to install internet private at home, require open a phone line, then pay a fee, then install the DSL line and pay another fee, and pay monthly fee... and also if I want change apartement that makes things much more easy... just leave and go, no need to think about closing line or else
I do not have internet inside my apartment... It's a shared hotspot provided for the whole building.
need to manage users and duration to bills the peoples.
If I had choices I will have my own private internet connection.
yeah from what i read your tab is searching for the network all night, that will drain your battery fast. As you said either login in or turn off wifi.

That explains things a lot more clearly. I don't think that's a particularly common setup outside of Thailand though, especially in the US and Europe. We tend to have our own internet connections so such logging on just isn't needed. I, for example, have a 50mbit always on cable connection with my own hotspot.

Wifi prevents deep sleep

I've had my V20 for just over 2 weeks now and found something strange regarding wifi.
Normally I set my phone to keep wifi on, even when asleep because cell reception at my office is spotty and staying connected to WiFi used to keep the battery taking a hit during the day. But, I left my phone off the charger overnight last week and saw my battery drop 11% in just under 8 hours. That seemed higher than my old phones so I installed BBS to see if anything was misbehaving when I'm not using my phone. To my surprise, no apps were causing a large number or long duration wake locks but my phone was only in deep sleep for 25% of the night when left off the charger.
While I was testing different configurations I left wifi on, but set it to disable when sleeping and sure enough, my phone stayed asleep for 80%+ and the 8 hour drain dropped to 5%. I havent been able to find any other combinations of settings that get the phone to sleep.
Has anyone else seen thing on their V20?
Only 4% drop at worst over night with Wi-Fi left on here.
Hey shwnr11, thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, you had the setting "Keep wifi on during sleep" set to always as well?
I always have wifi on at home, but unless I set wifi to turn off when sleeping, I see the drain.

Yep, that's the one. Different wording on the Verizon V20, but same idea. Guess I've still got some searching on my end!

Could also be that I'm on a T-Mobile V20.
